10/10/08 We hope everyone had a great summer! Where to start? Here's the brief for those who don't want to read this whole thing: Jack is an amazing talker, a stinker at home, angel at daycare, can be emotional, loves tattoos, loves sports (especially football "Bikings pease!"), enjoys a wide range of activities out and about every day, super good pals Sebastian (next door), and Wyatt (Dan and Charisse's son), our dear friends moved to Texas (cry, cry..), Grandma (my mom) came to visit (yay!). I don't write things down anywhere else, so I will no doubt be bragging a lot here..oh well! First thing is that our very close friends Marlleen, Rafael, and Amicia, moved to Texas. This just stinks and we miss them terribly, but of course we are happy for them (but secretly hoping they move back). Amicia is hilarious and super cute. See the link to her website on the front page. OK, so what to say about Jack. We're really impressed with the fact that Jack talks a LOT. His first words were around nine months, and he's just always been good at talking. In the last few months he says things like "What down there?", "I want it please", "Come on Sebastian", and "Where Grandma go?", "Take a bath", etc. He also asks us to turn on "phooball please" (football please), and even says "Bikings peas!" (Vikings please). Yikes! He loves all sports. I think it's in his blood. I can't imagine why! Sebastian is his pal next door, and the two of them are true buddies. They scream with excitement when they see each other. It is SO nice to be neighbors since the kids can easily play a lot, and the grown-ups can visit. We have really enjoyed getting to know Sebastian and his parents, Megan and Nate. Grandma (my mom) was just here to visit for a while, and after she left Jack was asking where she went. So cute! I was really sick with the stomach flu for a few days when she was here, and she really sprang into action taking care of everything, which was a huge help since Chris was out of town. Thanks MOM!! We hope Grandpa can come too for the next visit :) Jack is always described as "Cheerful" at school (daycare). He does so well there and gets really excited when we tell him it's "time to go to school". He's an angel there, but as soon as he sees one of us, when we get there to pick him up, he sometimes drops to the floor crying as if he were desperately waiting for us. In truth, however, he has tons of fun. He and the kids (who he knows really well now) play together and tickle and chase each other and just have tons of fun. He can be a little stinker with us, but is generally a model kid when at school or with someone else (or so they say!). He's also a super-softie. I'm trying to teach him to brush things off, like when another kid pushes him. Jack will burst into tears and run across the room to me. SO dramatic! I have to laugh, but I tell him to try again. He definitely wears his emotions on his sleeve. One really cute thing he does is, lately, when we are doing something he is particularly fond of, he says "Happy now". This mostly happens when we are out and about. Jack tends to be in his best moods during outings, walks, visits with pals, etc. I think he generally hates staying home all day, and his mood really reflects that. He's just grumpy if we stay in and don't do anything different or exciting. So, the summer was absolutely filled with activities. We probably went to the Zoo five times. When I was a kid, the zoo was a special occasion that happened maybe once a year. We'd dream about it for a week leading up to the event, then make the long trip downtown. For us, the zoo is just a short trip on the Max (subway), so we can go a lot. We also regularly walked to the nearby parks, splashed in Jamison fountain, went to the kids room in the science museum (OMSI), went to a local coffee shop with a fabulous play room (Sip-n-Kranz), hosted play dates at home, etc. We also went to "Wy-Wy's" (Wyatt's) house a lot on the weekends to visit him and his parents, Dan and Charisse. We've been close friends with them since before Wyatt was born, and they have the most amazing back yard I've ever seen. They had a basketball court with walls and fencing put in, and there are tons of big toys for the kids to ride on and play with while the grown ups can shoot hoops. It's very relaxed there and we love visiting, and Jack loves his pall "Wy-Wy". Jack finally likes taking a bath (thanks to Megan and Seb!), but still goes into the shower with dad in order to get his hair washed. He hates getting his face wet, so I can't wash his hair in the tub. Him and Sebastian sometimes get a bath together, which is pretty funny. I'm not sure there is anything cuter than two toddlers taking a bubble bath! Getting him to go in the shower is time consuming. We have to talk about what we do in order to get into the shower. I say "what do we have to do? Do we have to be naked?" Then he pulls at his clothes and lets me help him get them off, or he laughs and runs the other way making a game out of it! Oh jeeze he has been teeting terribly off and on lately, which I think really bothers him. He is just so irritable at times with it. Jack has a whole bunch of Adidas clothes and shoes thanks to Auntie Charisse! He wears them a lot. So comfy and easy. He also has some very fancy new linen clothes Auntie Deborah gave him. He's all set for dress up and play time! Auntie Deborah is very special. She likes to leave little surprises on the doorstep, like cute truck shaped utensils and bath toys. What a treat! She always fawns over Jack, even when he's being a stinker! Deborah's husband's name is George. When Jack sees George, he clams up (Jack, not George). Then, when George leaves the room, Jack says "George, George, George". I think it's pretty funny! I'm sure there's tons more to say, but I better take advantage of having today off while Jack is at daycare. Ahhh...still in my robe drinking coffee.

5/7/08 Well Jack and family are doing great. Jack is running around playing like crazy. He seems to love daycare and getting out of the house to play outside and with other kids. I just say "do you want to go outside?" and he heads toward the door, gets his shoes and coat, and gets really excited. His latest favorite words are "Apple" and "Wiggles". He will say most words if you ask him to say them, and uses maybe 20 words regularly, like when he want something or if I ask him what something is. He picks up the TV remote and says "Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle" until we put on the Wiggles show. ha ha ha! He cracks us up, and he cracks up pretty easily, too, especially if we chase him and tickle him. He is also helping around the house. He will throw garbage away if you ask him, and insists on finding a garbage if he sees "ca ca" outside. Of course, we always find one since we want to set a good example, but some days there is one "ca ca" after another and we can barely move on without searching for another garbage can. ha ha ha! He also hands me dishes when emptying the dishwasher, puts his dirty diapers in the Diaper Champ and even turns the handle so they "disappear" ha ha ha! He also goes and gets his pajamas from the pajama basket when I ask him to. He gets his shoes and coat...things like that. It's neat to make a simple request and see that he understands it, and is happy to show me that he does! Lately he loves to eat potatoes. Baked, stewed, or fries, he loves them. He also loves blueberries. He eats probably half a cup at a time, and just can't get enough of them. We spend a lot of time reading one book after another, then reapeat.. ha ha.. We also go to library play times and the local community center play times. Plus he plays at daycare, and he really seems to like all the social contact. We go to two parks that are close by pretty often, now that the weather is nicer. We've gone to the zoo a few times already, and his eyes widened and he said "roar!", pointing to tigers, and "ah ah ah ah" when he saw the real, live monkies! Also, he does "stomp, stomp, stomp" when he sees elephants. So fun! Jack sleeps really well. Right now he takes a 3 to 4 hour nap at about 10am, then bedtime is at 6:30 or 7pm. He gets a milk bottle in the rocking chair with his special night-night book "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", that his Aunt Alexis got him. When he's nice and relaxed, he gives me his bottle, sits up, and waves goodnight. Then I put him in his crib and he goes right to sleep. He really does well with this routine. It's sooo nice! He is rested and happy, and mom and dad can actually watch a movie or just hang out. We went on trip to visit my Dad and family and had a great time. They live in a farm area, so Jack got to play outside a lot, ride a lawn tractor, see horses and a duck, and just had a fun, fun time! He also got to see his Aunt Symphony play softbal. She's really good!

2/3/08 I need to write these things down before I forget!. Jack's first words were "ma ma" and "da da", of course. His second word was "ca" for cat. He loves Sylvie, and continually walks after her trying to pet her. He's great about petting gently, but you can tell he really wants to yank, pull, and jump on her! His other words are cracker (ca-cuh), bubble, ball, star, ba ba, mooo (when you ask what a cow says), ca-ca (garbage), and I think that's all. Some very funny things he does: He's putting his soft blocks with holes in them on each wrist and walking around like that. He looks like he has water wings on. ha ha! He also entertains us with his "extremely frustrated" look. I think I have a photo. He opens his eyes really wide, contorts his face to a stretched position, and closes his fists and stiffens up his whole body and shakes a little, like he's about to pop! It is so hilarious. He'll do it again and again as long as we clap and cheer. So funny. Lately when he wants to go to bed, he motions toward his crib. This makes things much easier! You put in in there, put a blanked on his shoulders, and he plops down on his belly with is butt up in the air and dozes away. He also knows how to throw garbage (ca-ca) away. Sometimes a puzzle piece or two end up in the trash, but he's more than 75% accurate I'd say ;) Love and Hugs! -Artist

Happy Birthday Jack! Jack turned 1 on January 18th. We celebrated at the Portland Children's Museum. Lots of friends came, and we had a great time! Cake, party hats, ice cream, and playing in the museum afterwards. Click the link near the top to see photos. Enjoy!

1/9/08  My sister, Alexis (Jack's aunt) came for a visit. We were so happy she came out to spend time with Jack. We had a great time. We spent time downtown, took Jack to the library and Children's Museum, and just had a great time visiting. Now Jack looks at and goes over to Alexis when we ask "Where is Auntie?". So cute!   Over the last week Jack has been walking more and more. He took six steps towards the cat, and regularly takes a few steps here and there. Jack is also sleeping really well these days. He takes two good naps, and sleeps about 11 hours straight at night. So, Chris and I are finally getting a full night's rest. Yay!!!  Jack LOVES music. He is really concentrating on all of his musical toys. He pushes the buttons on all his toys that make music, and then he sits there and dances. We were at a Thai restaurant last night with Alexis, and he was pushing the buttons on his "Thomas the Train" musical book so he could dance. The employees were cracking up and dancing along with him! They couldn't resist coming over and playing with him. Nothing cuter than a dancing baby, especially our little Jack!!   Oh, another thing he does is he tries to snap his fingers and pat his leg to the music, the way mom and dad do. So cute!  he he he..

12/31 Happy New Year! Jack took a step on Christmas Day. He's not quite walking yet, but he did take an official first step on his own. He'll be running around before we know it! Another big change is that, about three weeks ago, Jack stopped using his pacifier. He was teething and he refused the pacifier for about three days because of his sore mouth, so we just never gave them back. He didn't seem to mind too much. Aso you can see in the photos, Jack has two bottom teeth and one on the top. He's also getting an eye tooth (the pointy one) in. You can see in the video that Jack has taken to dancing lately. He moves and wiggles to music. He'll stop what he's doing and dance like that when he hears music. So adorable! He also claps and knows what a ball is. If I say "give the ball to ma ma", Jack gets it and rolls it to me, and we roll it back and forth. Actually, his roll is more like a big bounce towards me. He lifts it waaaay up and spikes it down in my direction. ha ha! Jack has also graduated to "Wobblers" at daycare. This is the room with babies who are walking and "cruising" around. He loves it in there. There are bigger toys to navigate and he's already made some new friends that he plays with. Their form of "play" is to sort of chase each other around. he he he! We had a nice Christmas day at Deborah and George's (our neighbors) with some other friends and neighbors who joined us. They made a Christmas goose. It was honkin' good! ha ha ha. Well, you can tell from the photos and videos that Jack is quite entertaining and pretty darn cute. He's so fun to play with and be with in general. We couldn't be happier.

12/5/07 Where does the time go? Jack is 10 1/2 months old now. We went with Marlleen and Amicia to see Santa at Macy's. As you can see from the pictures, we had a lot of fun! Well, Jack didn't exactly love Santa..ha ha ha.

Over the past month Jack has been standing a lot more and "cruising" all over the place along furniture. He walks behind a plastic truck chris got him. It has an elevated rim in the back Jack holds on to. He pushes it along, walking behind it with his feet really far apart. He picks his feet up really high, too. Funny! So, no independent steps yet..but getting close!

He also started pointing to things, so I tell him what the things are that he's pointing to. He knows a few signs "all done", and "drink". I think we may add a few more. He also started clapping! He claps at everything. I start singing "Pat-a-Cake", and he immediately starts clapping..cute!

Right now Jack's favorite foods are cheese and fish. He loves fish. I bake it and flake it up on his tray, and he eats a while fillet! He's a good eater. Sleeping is just ok, though. He still wakes up once or twice each night. He naps really well, though.

We went to Minnesota for Thanksgiving and had a wonderful time. Jack got to meet lots of family, including his cousins Luke, Will, and Genna. We took Luke to Toys-R-Us and he was so excited he said "It's like the whole place is wrapped in caramel!!" ha ha ha! We tell everyone about that.

I had such a great time. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. Chris's mom rented a house so we could all stay together. Such a nice Christmas gift. Thanks Grandma Janell!! We had a nice, relaxing time. Coffee in the mornings while the kids played..cooking Thanksgiving dinner together..Grandpa Rich keeping the "Duraflame" going in the fireplace..ha ha ha..

We got to visit Chris's dad, Jon and Cheryl. Cheryl makes great pies with homemade crusts..YUM. Jack played with Grandpa Jon and we went through some of Chris's old photos and schoolwork that Cheryl sorted and put together in a box for him. Very fun. Thanks Cheryl!

We also drove out to Chris's uncle Don and Aunt Kate's farm. What a charming place! We had another amazing Thanksgiving dinner there, and could not have felt more welcome. Jack was especially lovable that day. He went around giving everyone big hugs.

11/15/07   Lots of new pictures! We went to Ft. Meyers, Florida for a warm and sunny vacation. We saw lots of family and stayed in an amazing hotel right on the beach. We literally walked right onto the beach from our place. Perfect!  The rooms were just as perfect, with huge windows that made you feel like you were on the ocean, sitting right next to the sunset..ahhhh... We are so thankful we were able to stay there :)  Once Jack warmed up to the beach and pool, he was splashing and playing and having a great time, as you can see in the photos.

The place had an ottoman/foot rest and Jack continually wanted to be chased around it..especially by Grandpa! ha ha! Grandma dressed Jack up in a clown costume. Jack saw himself and got so excited, he actually stood up in the middle of the living room without holding on to anything! He's been standing up like that a lot lately. He's up to about 6 seconds of free-standing at one time. He also walks along furniture and is getting into everything!

Jack is eating really well. He continues to say "da da" most of the time. He says "da da" and I say "ma ma" and he says "DA DA"  ha ha ha!  We have conversations. I look at him and say "ahhh", then he says it, then I say it... It's funny. Like he knows he is supposed to take a turn saying something. So neat to see that understanding.

Check out the photo of Jack's "tired sign". We think this may be unique to Jack. When he's tired, he puts his spread out hand over his eyes like that. He will be playing and going about his regular business, then suddenly sit up and put his hand over his eyes like that and close his eyes a little. He's saying "I'm tired". So, I give him a bottle, his pacifier, and he goes right to sleep. So cute! All our friends know the tired sign. When we see him do it, we all say "ohhh..tired!"  ha ha ha!

10/10/07 Guess what! Jack started crawling a few days ago! For weeks he's been moving around a little by lying down and wiggling around, then sitting up again and repeating. Moving about like this was quite complicated and not very effective. Then, the other day he crawled normally, with one hand in front of the other, one regular crawling leg, and one leg dragging along. The next day he was a little better at it, and the next day he crawled a lot at daycare. He's really getting the hang of it now, crawling pretty well on all fours. Sometimes he pauses and gets up on his feet and hands so his bottom is sticking way up in the air. I wonder what his plan is with that. Maybe it's a yoga stretch? he he he. He also gets himself to standing and lets go sometimes. He stands for a few seconds then plops his bottom down. He's so excited when he's crawling. So cute!

Jack says ma-ma-ma-ma when he's hungry, tired, or upset. He also says "cat" without the "t" when Sylvie walks by. The daycare told us he crawls to the high-chair and looks up at it when he's hungry. He also waves "bye" or "hi" back to us. It's so amazing to watch him learn and grow.

Jack is also sleeping in his crib a lot more. Now, as long as he's tired, I can give him a bottle and rock him just a little, put him in the crib and he rolls over to go right to sleep. I hope that lasts! We still bring him into bed about half way through the night sometimes, but a lot less right now since he's doing well in his crib.

Uncle Justin came to visit yesterday. Jack was super excited jumping and wiggling when he saw him. Cute!

Omigosh, Jack is eating SO much! He gets really excited about food now. He especially loves when we puree our own foods, like pot roast and roasted chicken with veggies. He likes all food - meat, veggies, fruit, etc. I gave him some shredded cheese today and he loved that. I gave him a little taste of cream cheese and he kicked his legs and bounced up and down. ha ha! He also loves to crunch on "baby mum-mum" rice crackers. He will crawl across the entire living room for one of those. He also tried a little Indian food at Swagat's.  I thought it would be too spicy, but he ate quite a bit of it and seemed to really like it a lot.

Well, Jack is eating and sleeping well, and is just so happy and energetic. He's not teething at the moment. He has two teeth in the bottom front so far. I'm hoping the others hold off until after our upcoming trip to Florida.

9/23/07 The stomach flu has become a regular family affair around here. Jack, Chris, and I have had it twice now in the last 5 months. I never used to get sick. Having a baby in daycare sure cured that!

Jack is better, but now a tooth is coming through right after the flu. His mouth hurts and he doesn't want to eat much, but he needs to because the flu depleted him. I'm trying and trying to get him to eat more, but when you try and feed him when he doesn't want to eat, he gags. So, really I've just made him gag and spit up a few extra times. Nonetheless, he is happy and playing and sleeping and eating some, so I think he is fine.

Jack is practicing saying words now, but I don't think it's actual talking yet. We thought he was asking for a ba ba (bottle) the other day, but figured out it was just a coincidence. He says ba ba, da da, ma ma, ngu ngu, cu cu, ahh ahh..and a few others. It's fun go get him to copy your word. He's not crawling yet. He gets up on all fours and thinks real hard, but doesn't go anywhere. He is constantly pulling himself up to a stand. Standing is his life goal right now. If there is something he can grab to get standing, he's right on it. We have to watch him because he topples over easily.

Chris and Jack are taking a nap together right now. So cute! xoxoxoxo -Artist

9/21/07 Today is Grandma & Grandpa (Michigan) Anniversary. Happy Anniversary!!! Alexis and I got them a silver Chrismas bell ornament. They love it! Those lovebirds are two peas in a pod and happy as clams. We are so happy for them. We wish them many, many, many more happy years together.

Now, back to Jack! Jack has the stomach flu, which makes him reallly really thirsty. Twice now he has said ba ba ba ba ba! I am sure he wanted a bottle both times. I gave him a few ounces only (due to the flu) and he took it both times. One of the times he added ma ma ma ma. I notice the "ma ma ma ma" when he's wanting comfort. It could all be babbling and just coincidence, or he may possibly be starting to purposefully say a few words. I wanted to jot this down because I am realizing how much I do forget. Marlleen asked me some questions and I was surprised at what I couldn't remember. Little details about when this or that happened in the early weeks and months. Anyway, Jack is feeling better. Still a little sensitive stomach, but keeping a few ounces down here and there and still playing and smiling a lot of the time. Should be back to himself tomorrow.

9/20/07  It's Daddy's birthday today. Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!  Chris got Jack to say "Da da da da" for the first time yesterday. He also copies the monkey sound "ah ah ah ah". So funny! Also, he pulls himself to a stand a lot now. Once he actually let go and was standing there for a few seconds not holding onto anything. Also, he gets real excited when you are holding him an you open the fridge. He wants to see what's in there. New toys?!?!  ha ha!

9/13/07 Bye, Bye Swaddle?

Giving up the swaddle was sure to be a milestone for baby Jack. His love for the swaddle was obvious. But, is Jack suddenly ready to be swaddle free?

Last night I put Jack to bed sans swaddle and he slept perfectly all night.

Arms and legs have been liberated! Swaddle no more!

Jack has also been holding his bottle up by himself. I really don't need to hold it for him. So, I gave him his bottle this morning and did the dishes. It was the first time I wasn't right there with him when he ate his bottle. He drank it right down.

Then, I tried something different with his nap. Instead of rocking him all the way to sleep, I rocked him for a few minutes, set him in his crib tired (no swaddle), and left the room. He wimpered and cried just a little, for about five minutes, and went to sleep.

Suddenly he is doing some things on his own. I' m free to do more on my own, and so is he. How wonderful, and bittersweet at the same time. My little boy is growing up!

9/9/07 Wow, it's been a month of fun and excitement! Alexzandra was born September 27th. She's so cute, as you can see in the pictures. Marlleen, Rafael, and baby are doing great! We went to Wyatt's 2nd birthday party yesterday. Jack had fun with TONS of kids. Baby Alexzandra was even there, just 12 days old and super cute.

Jack had lots of special visitors over the past month. Uncle Justin Mills was in town and brought Jack a new toolbox toy, which he loves. Grandma Debby was here while Chris was in Paris for ten days. We strolled around town, went to Powell's books, drove to New to You (a huge, amazing, and wonderful consignment store), bought a crib for Jack (he's outgrown the Pack and Play) and had tons of fun. Thanks so much for all the help, Grandma! Grandma Janell was here on Friday. We went to dinner at Tara Thai, then walked to the toy store. Grandma got Jack a very cool new toy plane. Fun! She also got him some Dr. Seuss Books and read to him. Jack was delighted, to say the least!

Auntie Deborah and George, our wonderful and amazing neighbors and friends, watched Jack a few times this month. He was teething one of the times and a little grumpy, but he was still smiling when we came home. Deborah definitely has a magic touch when it comes to babies. Jack had fun dancing, reading, and playing. Thanks Deborah and George!

Jack got his first tooth (on the bottom front right) in August, and more are coming in. He was pretty grumpy, but is back to being his happy self again. Jack is sitting up like a champ. He also is pulling himself half way up to standing, and leaning forward onto his knees and rocking. We think he will start crawling any minute..yikes! He is a little shy around strangers right now. He buries his head in my arm and peeks up at them when he meets someone new. Cute! He's babbling a lot more and a lot louder. He squeals with delight when he plays with a toy he's never seen.

When I take Jack to mom's group meetups he gets super excited because all the toys are different than his. We went to Urban Grind with Stephanie and little Eric. Eric was so excited to see Jack he kept putting his face right up to his and smiling real big. We put them in car seats in the back of Stephanie's car and they just stared at each other the whole time. Funny! Urban Grind is a cafe with a huge playroom with tons of toys for the kids. Jack had a blast.

Jack still likes to be swaddled and rocked to sleep. He can sleep without the swaddle, but he still prefers it. So funny. Once Jack is tired for a nap or bed, he wants his routine immediately. The routine has to be in the correct order according to Jack - swaddle him up quick and snug, rock in the chair with a bottle, then a pacifier as soon as the bottle is out, then he falls asleep in your arms as you rock him, and into the crib he goes. If you mess up the order or take too long, he lets you know! ha ha ha!

Today we went to Jamison Square fountain as you can see in the photos. Jack liked when we put his feet in the water, but did not like sitting down in  it. Not yet, anyway. He will probably love running around in it next summer. There was a pig roast there today with music and hula dancers. Jack loved the music and watching the kids play in the fountain. Mom and dad loved the free food and drinks, and having fun with little man Jack. We also got a coupon for free ice cream at Ben and Jerry's afterwards. Yum!

We hope everyone is doing well. Lots of love and hugs to all. Love, Chris, Artist, and Jack

8/1/07 The past month has been full of fun activities. We went to the fair last weekend. Mom and Dad tried to win Jack a prize at Ski Ball, but it was impossible! We've gone on playdates, and walked over to free concerts in the park. We also strolled to Jamison fountain a few times..soo fun! We even took the trolly to Powell's Books and found a fun mirror book for Jack and a healthcare book for Mom. On the Fourth, we went to Dan and Charisse's and Jack played in the baby pool for the first time. Charisse got him some fancy swim trunks..so funny! You can see them in the photos.

Jack has a new friend, Eric, and loves to play with his buddies Myles, Quincy, and Wyatt. He is also in a new daycare room and is doing really well with his new friends and caregivers there.

Jack caught another bug at daycare and has a fever right now..102..yikes! He's eating well and playing and happy, though, so he is doing just fine.

Jack started sitting up for brief periods around 5.5 months, and now he sits up for long periods. So cute! He also started putting his pacifier into his mouth around 5 months. He sees it on the floor, slowly picks it up, looks at it and turns it around a few times on his mouth until it fits. So funny! He also pats the cat and pulled her tail this morning..uh oh! Oh, and a few days ago he reached out his arms to Mommy for the first time..sooo sweet!

Love and hugs to all!! -Artist and Jack

7/3/07 Ohhh Jack had a bad diaper rash! His bum was perfect for so long, then a bright red rash appeared. It took a while, but it's all better now. It was cute letting his bottom "air out" while he played on a towel in the living room. Jack has been eating rice cereal for the past week or so. At first he spit it out, but now he swallows it and wants more. He sees the spoon and opens his mouth up wide in anticipation. So cute! He's also reaching for our food when we eat. he he he! Jack is funny when he wants to get our attention, which is all the time. He stiffens up his little body, calls out, and looks around for us to react. If we don't come over, he may call again or become distracted by some nearby toy or sound. His most recent report from daycare is that he is especially attentive during story time, and loves to kick on the toy "kick wall".

I take Jack to play groups at the library and around town. He always loves playing and watching other kids and wiggling around next to other babies and hearing the moms chat up a storm. Jack had fun at Marlleen and Rafael's baby shower. He sat in a bouncy chair next to his pal, Myles. We are going to Dan and Charisse's tomorrow for a 4th of July barbecue. We got Lil' Swimmers diapers for him so we can dip him in the baby pool. Fun! Love and Hugs to all. Artist, Chris, and Jack

6/10/07  Jack brought home his first bug from daycare this week. Jack hardly had any symptoms, just a little tired and maybe a little tummy upset. Chris and I, however, were terribly sick with the stomach flu....not pretty! We are all feeling better now. Jack is really active these days. Lately his favorite sound to make is a fake cough. It's hilarious. He rounds his mouth and forces "cough" sounds out loud and clear. He looks real serious while he does it.  He's also reaching for and grabbing toys. He loves, loves, loves to stand while you hold onto his hands. He just looks around as if he's wobbling on top of the world. Cute!    Love, Artist

5/31/07  Jack and Dad were on their own for three days in a row over Memorial Day weekend while I worked. They really bonded and Chris is a pro at taking care of Jack now. How sweet!  Chris got Jack laughing really hard on the third day playing "peek-a-boo" and "standy man" (that's where Jack stands while you hold onto his hands). Chris can sometimes put Jack down for a nap directly into his bassinet. I usually have to rock him to sleep for naps. He loves to be swaddled. I wonder if I'll forget this someday, but I swaddle Jack and rock him to sleep for naps all the time. I sort of rock/swing him while standing up in the bathroom with the fan on while I quietly sing "The Rose" by Bette Midler three times in a row. ha ha ha ha! Can you picture it?  "Some say love, it is a river..."  It works very quickly. He's zonked out in seven minutes flat. Way to go Bette...zzzzzzzzzzzz... So, he recognizes that song and "Zip-a-de-doo-da", which we sing to him constantly.  Love and hugs to all!    -Artist

5/24/07  Well Mom is back to work and Jack had his first day of daycare last week. He did great and we really like the place. He will be going two days a week while Mom works part-time. Jack is laughing even more these days and he loves to coo and babble. He also sticks his tongue out a lot and blows bubbles with his lips. So funny! Lately he has been lifting his head and grunting as if he's doing a sit-up with just his head. He does this when he want's me to pick him up. ha ha ha! I thought he would reach his arms out..but instead he lifts his head up..sort of sticking his nose out...ha ha. He loves to be bounced and carried and played with. He just loves attention and smiles and laughs when he gets it. His last doctor appointment was great. Pretty much the same as the others. He got more immunization shots and only cried for a few minutes, yay Jack!   Love, Artist

5/2/07 Jack and I just got back from visiting Grandma and Grandpa (my Mom and Dad) in Michigan. We had a wonderful time. They had everything Jack needed, like a crib, swing, bouncy seat, fun toys...the works! We felt very spoiled. Thanks so much Grandma and Grandpa! We got to visit with lots of family and friends as you can see from the new pictures. Some family even came in from out of state: Cousin Toni and Jalen, Aunt Donna and Uncle Gene, Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Symphony. How wonderful to see everyone! We were very busy visiting and doing this and that, and Jack seemed to enjoy it all. He also did really well on the flights. He slept, ate, and played most of the time and cried for about five minutes total. What a good boy! We are back home now and Jack is in his swing snoozing after spending all day yesterday with Dad, who missed him so much he took the day off. Awwwwe. Love and Hugs, Artist and Jack
