4/19/07  I am afraid to get too excited about this yet, but Jack has slept all night for the past four nights. He's been sleeping by about 8pm and sleeps straight through until about 6am. Oh I love you my sweet, sweet sleep! ha ha. I hope it lasts.  We are getting ready for our trip to Michigan. We get to see Grandma and Grandpa Oberg and  hopefully Aunt Alexis, Grandma and Grandpa Kirkpatrick and Aunt Symphony, Cousin Toni and Jalen, Cousin Connie and new baby Addison and family, Aunt Donna and Uncle Gene, Aunt Maria, and hopefully others will stop in. How fun!  Love and hugs, Artist and Jack

4/17/07 We just put up some new videos. One of Easter and one of Jack rolling from his belly to his back. The Easter outfit Jack is wearing is from Grandma and Grandpa Breyer. He wore that outfit for almost four hours before spitting up on it. Not bad! It fit perfectly and he looked so cute in it. The easter basket full of goodies and toys was from Grandma and Grandpa Oberg in Michigan. He likes to stare at that black and white stuffed toy and we liked eating the goodies! Thanks Grandmas and Grandpas! Love, Artist, Chris, and Jack

4/13/07   Jack is twelve weeks old now. He has a little cold but it doesn't seem to be bothering him much, except when I use the nose-sucker..eeeew. He is really giggling and smiling a lot these past few days, which I love. I can lock eyes with him and get a big grin most of the time, which I do almost continually now.. he he he.  He likes to play on his play mat. He bats at his hanging toys and even grabs at them, as you can see in the pictures. He also likes to stare at the circular planets you can see in the photos. Also, he spends a lot of time trying to cram both of his hands into his mouth. What a silly boy!  We walked to the grocery store today and, once again, stuffed as much food as we could into the bottom of the stroller. Jack just looks all around or snoozes when we go in the stoller. He really likes his walks.   Love, Artist

4/6/07  My cousin Toni has an adorable son named Jalen. He's about 5 months older than Jack. Toni sends Jalen's clothes to us when he grows out of them. We love them! That's Jalen's sweater in the "sweater pictures". Cute!  Thanks Toni and Jalen!!!!   Hugs, Artist and Jack

3/27/07 Wow Jack just rolled from his tummy to his back. I couldn't believe it. I looked it up and babies sometimes start doing this around 2 or 3 months. I think he had a big incentive because he does not like being on his belly. Now he can escape "belly time". Jack! ha ha ha! Funny. -Love, Artist

3/26/07 Omigosh. Last night Jack cried unusually hard for a few minutes. I fed him and put him to bed and he was fine. In the morning I unzipped his pajamas...........and a pacifier popped out! I must have accidentally zipped it in the night before! I bet he was crying extra hard because it was uncomfortable in there. I guess it was too dark to notice it when I changed his diaper in the middle of the night. I felt terrible. Like a surgeon might feel if she left a sponge or instrument in..ha ha ha. Poor little guy! Auntie Marllen laughed and quoted Jack "I have a pacifier in my pants!"

3/16/07  Jack had his two month doctor appointment today and all is well. He weighs 11 lbs. 6 oz. (50th percentile) and is 24 inches long (90th percentile). He showed off by lifting his head way up while on his belly. We were all impressed. We were all impressed. Way to go Jack! He got four immunization shots; two in each thigh. He did NOT like those. Ouch!

Jack is quite animated and smiling a lot now. He has also found his hands and spends a lot of time looking at them. Check out the new videos of Jack smiling and looking at his little hands. Cute! Per Grandma's request, Chris and I will try to be in the next videos with Jack. Love, Artist

2/28/07  Jack is six weeks old tomorrow. He is just starting to smile a little these past few days. Very cute! He is sleeping well at night in his bassinet, usually up just two or three times to nurse. Sometimes he sleeps for five hours and I have to wake him up to eat. He is generally calm and happy, and sometimes fussy for a few hours in the evening when he wants nothing more than to be held. He's also fussy if he doesn't sleep enough, so we are very good at helping him nap several times during the day. When he is fussy I sometimes put him in the Baby Bjorn (a baby sling/harness), and "wear" him while I finish eating or cleaning or whatever I needed to do. He loves it and if he needs a nap, he goes right to sleep in it. Sometimes it's hard to tell if Jack is asleep or awake. Sometimes he chatters non-stop while sleeping! It's cute unless you are trying to sleep as well. ha ha ha. Love, Artist

2/20/07   Jack is just over a month old now. We went on a walk yesterday to visit the nurses at my work. Jack enjoyed being showered with attention from such lovely ladies, and mom enjoyed visiting with grown-ups...he he he he. On Saturday we visited Paul, Mari, Quincy, and their new baby Myles who is soooo cute. Then on Sunday we visited Marlleen and Rafael for some amazing barbecue. Jack is finally out and about! Yesterday morning we visited Deborah and George across the hall. Their place felt so neat and clean compared to ours. Oh well, we have a good excuse! So far Jack sleeps a lot when we take him out and is generally very good. A few days ago Jack started really looking at my eyes. He looks at my face and studies it. He also moves his mouth and head when I'm talking to him. He hasn't found his hands yet, but we're working on it. I lift his hands in front of his face and say "what are those?", then he says "waaa waaa gurgle gurgle". he he he! Jack is holding his head up a little more. He likes warm baths. He likes to sleep on his side with his little arm under his head. He does not like getting his diaper changed. He likes when I sing to him. We sing whatever songs I can remember the words to. He likes for me to walk with him around the house showing him everything, especially the windows since they are bright. He likes to cruise in his stroller. When he first wakes up he likes to stretch really hard. He tilts his head way back and sticks his little butt way out and stretches. It's really very funny and cute. Right now his favorite toy is a black and white musical panda bear my friend Jana from work got him. He stares at the black and white parts and follows them with his eyes. Very neat to see the little changes day by day. Love and hugs, Artist

Jack and I have gone on a few long walks lately. He sleeps while I stroll him along. He's such a funny little guy. He makes me laugh all the time with his grunts, gurgles, and cute faces. Even the angry face is adorable. I'm not sure if all babies do this, and I know it's not a real smile, but Jack always sports a wide grin as he drifts off to sleep. It's just when he's falling asleep, or when he's in that light, noisy sleep babies get into so often. The smile is pretty brief so by the time I get my camera ready the event has passed. Oh well. He'll be smiling for real in no time. Artist

2/2/07  I took Jack for his 2 week doctor appointment today. He did very well, only crying a bit when poked for some blood....ouch! He also peed on his blanket and my notes after we weighed him..ha ha ha! Jack is very healthy and the doctor commented that he is really strong. She also said he is calm and seems to be self-soothing. At two weeks, Jack weighs 7 pounds 10 ounces, which puts him in the 50th percentile for weight. That's up a whole pound in just 11 days, which is great. I'm not surprised since he eats very, very well. His height is 21 1/4 inches, which puts him in the 90th percentile for height (meaning 90% of babies his age are shorter and ten percent are taller). Little Jack may tower on the basketball court! His head circumferance is 36 3/4 centimeters, which is in the 70th percentile. So, he is healthy and growing well. Go Jack! -Love, Artist

Jack's baby swing was delivered yesterday. He loves it! I can put him in the swing and he's very happy while I get things done around the house. He slept well again last night, yipee! We took Jack for his first walk in his stroller yesterday. It was sunny and about 50 degrees, and the fresh air felt great. Jack slept through the whole thing, but we got some photos I'll post on the website. Jack "talks" a little more now and can move his head more. He also pushes with his feet when I hold him upright on my lap. We think we see him smiling sometimes, too. Very cute! Love, Artist

1/25/07  Jack is napping right now so I have a moment to write. This first week has been quite the adventure! Jack loves to be cuddled and rocked in our glider. He is getting a little bigger and stronger already. He moves his head from one side to the other when we put him on his belly. At first, Jack slept all day and was awake much of the night. Needless to say, mom and dad were a frazzled mess by the third day! But we kept at it and he is now starting to adjust to our time. We all slept pretty well the last two nights, and Jack seems satisfied and comfortable most of the time. Jack is a very, very good eater. I feed him about every two hours, and he generally needs a diaper change after each feeding. He makes very, very funny faces when he poops. We'll have to get a video of that (The faces, not the pooping he he he..) We just love little Jack to pieces. He is just too cute and snuggly for words. Be sure to look at the video clips Chris adds periodically. Love and Hugs, Artist

Baby Jack has arrived! Jack was born on January 18th, 2007 at exactly 7:30pm. He weighs 6 pounds, 14 ounces, and is 20 inches long. The whole experience was amazing from the hospital arrival, to the delivery, to meeting Jack and bringing him home with us. We are absolutely in love with little Jack and all is well. We will add more photos soon, to be sure! Love Chris, Artist & Jack

It's 4pm, Tuesday, January 16th and no changes. Jack's still comfy and cozy in my belly. It's snowing here in Portland today. So beautiful! It hardly ever snows here so the city doesn't have enough trucks to clear the roads. No problem for me since the hospital is just four short blocks away! Chris's work closed due to the weather so he came home early. Mom and Chris walked to the post office to mail a package, and later we are going to work on my pregnancy scrapbook and watch some movies while we wait and hope for me to go into labor and have a baby!

It's 8pm, Sunday, January 14th and all is well. I'm not in labor yet, even though today is my due date! Oh well. Mom is here and the three of us went went to the movies. Then we walked around trying to get my labor going, which did not work. So, we went home and made fajitas for dinner. Yum!

My faaaabulous co-workers threw me a baby shower in December. Chris and I live so close to the hospital we all just walked right down to my place and had a great time laughing, eating goodies, and opening wonderful gifts. Thanks so much, everyone. What a fun and memorable day!
