Welcome back everyone. We're trying to not go as long between the updates. I promise, I'm trying to get better at that, but sometimes things just seem to work against you.
Let's see, where to start on an update for Dakota. Dakota is a pretty smart little boy. We can now say our ABCs, but we tend to get in a hurry and skip the middle of the alphabet. Watch the video below and you'll see what I mean. I think it is usually after H or I that we skip to either O or P. If you slow him down, he'll generally get them all in there, but fast we never seem to get right. We're working on it, he still has a while before he starts school.
We can count. We go to 10 really well usually, but he wouldn't cooperate in the video below, so James had to coax him along. He can count to 20 when he wants to. When he doesn't want to count he'll go: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10. What you get out of him all depends on his mood at the time.
We know all our colors & shapes. We're very good at naming colors, and he's pretty good at shapes. I've tried to work on writing some, but so far haven't made much progress in that regard. That is another area that we still have plenty of time for, so I'm not concerned about his non-interest in that area as of this time.
Overall, he is a pretty sharp little boy. He's so funny & literally a joy to be around. He can be very sociable, but that depends on his current mood. Sometimes we're very talkative, but other times, you can't get a word out of him.
We LOVE books. We get book orders thru his daycare and usually buy him anywhere from 6-20 new books when we get them (depends on the available funds when we receive them). I figure that is a good investment. Books are never a bad thing, and I want him to love books & reading as it will make school & learning easier for him when the time comes. We read 3-5 books each evening (sometimes more), but I don't mind that at all.
We're working on potty training him. Sometimes we have success, other times not. We don't get mad when he won't cooperate, and we're not forcing the issue, but we're getting him into a routine between home & daycare. We adopted a reward program at home. We have a "Dakota Box" full of cars, books, games, bubbles, etc. and everytime he goes potty in the potty, he gets to pick his own prize out of the box. Bribery may not be the "best" method, but it works for us - so far.
He is all boy. He loves being outside. He has one speed - running. That one gets us in trouble sometimes. He's always falling or crashing into something because he's always in a hurry. If he would just slow down or pay attention to what he's doing, we wouldn't have near as many accident reports from daycare. For example, yesterday he was sitting on the potty at daycare and he decided he wanted/needed to take his sock off, so he bent over to take it off & got overbalanced and flipped off the potty head-first into the changing table next to it. I picked him up from daycare with a lovely goose-egg on his forehead. Today, we still have the goose-egg which is now starting to bruise around it, by the looks of it, it may be here a while.
Well, I guess that is about it for us for now. We'll be making our first trip (of the year) up to Northeast Missouri to visit all my family up that way over Easter weekend. We're excited & looking forward to seeing everyone.
I've added a bunch of new pictures that I took, check out the albums named: Dakota - Various 2012, Cell Phone Pictures. Also, we just had professional pictures done, but I haven't received those yet. Should be sometimes in the next week or two. When I've gotten those, I'll post another update & add them onto the site for everyone to see.
***Since this update is still current, I'm not removing it yet. I just received the professional pictures we had done, so I've added them for everyone to see. I'm very pleased with them. They are on the pictures page in a folder named: Dakota Pro ~ 2-1/2 Years.***
March 17, 2012 - Not a lot new to report. My main reason for being on here today was to share his new pictures we received today. I'm very pleased with them. We've been sick some this past week. I got it first, just congestion that tried to go to the lungs, then 2-3 days of varying degree fevers. Dakota started the same cycle a day after I did. Jam...

October 28, 2011 - Today was the Halloween party at Imagination Station Daycare. I worked a split shift today so that James & I could go along to help. Since Dakota didn't actually go to daycare today, we needed to be there by 9:30 am. We got there a little after 9 and just waited for them to get everyone & everything ready. Finally, all wa...

October 1, 2011 - We took Dakota out to the Relay for Life/The Sharing Bucket 2011 Fall Festival today. We stopped off & picked Daddy up from the sale barn so he could go with us. We got there about ten minutes after it opened. We bought our tickets (most things take tickets to do) & entered in. We started off with the petting zoo, but Dako...
