10/8/07 Norah had her 9 month check-up last week and she's doing great. She's still tiny (like we didn't know from looking at her compared to Reef, Thomas or any other 9-10 monther out there!) in the 25th%ile; 17lbs 10oz. Our sweet, petite Norah! She's getting very interested in crawling the past week or so. Our days of enjoying our happy non-mobile 9month old are now numbered. She's also very interested in standing (trying out unassisted stands and is very proud of herself- sometimes she claps, which makes her loose her balance and she falls--- too cute!). She is going to be such a trooper because simply takes whatever treatment Bowen offers... Sometimes good, sometimes bad. He'll happily bring her some of her favorite toys, usually b/c she's getting into something of his.... He bulldozed her right over yesterday and although Mom was unhappy, she layed there as happy as ever just watching him. She LOVES him and he truely does love her in return, just has a unusual (or maybe usual for a toddler) way of showing it.
9/19/07 Bowen had his first trip to the dentist on Monday. He saw Dr. Kates, whom I also saw when I was his age! 30+ yrs ago... wow, thats hard to believe. All in all, he did great. It is strictly a pediatric dentist, so they are smart to have a very fun and enticing waiting area. Bowen loved the castle playhouse! We went in and met Dr. Kates, Bowen sat in the chair happily for about 1/2 a second. I had to sit next to him to hold him in it. Dr. Kates asked him to show him his teeth and Bowen very politely said, "Nope". So, Dr. Kates gently slid his fingers in and to my amazment, he was able to closely examine all his teeth, his gums, even had the dental mirror thingy and a tooth counter in there with Bowen's complete cooperation! Dr. Kates said he everything looks great! He doesn't have his 2 yr molars yet (great, we have that to look forward to-- UGH!). So, I'm thinking, well the hard part is done,,, HA,, I didn't anticipate the flailing and body throwing that would go along with the post Dr. part. The stickers created a major upset when he couldn't have the entire stash and just a few. Another major meltdown while going into a separate room for a quick picture that happened to have a few toys on the ground (there was another child being examined in there, so we couldn't play). OH well, like I said, all in all he did great for his first dentist appt!
Norah continues to be just the sweetest little baby we could have imagined! At 8.5 months, she's still not showing too much interest in wanting to crawl, just very content to sit wherever she is and play with what toys she has. I LOVE IT! I know life is going to get a lot busier once she's on the move, so I'm trying to enjoy the "calm before the storm"! However, she is showing interest in standing. I've heard that when babies walk before crawling, they actually are missing an important developmental stage and this may have larger effects on them later in life. So, I'm starting to work harder at getting her interested in crawling (as much as I do like the non-mobile happy baby we have now!)
8/12/07 My camera broke, I haven't bought a new one yet and I'm in official camera withdrawal! I tried to get one this morning, but the store didn't have the one I wanted. So, that'll be this weeks main goal (aside from feeding, diapering and entertaining 2 kids 24/7). SO, stay tuned...
August 7. Well Auntie Adrienne and Reef left this morning. We will miss them, 3 weeks seemed to fly by. We may go out in November for Reef's 1st birthday, we'll see...
I'll have to continue this later as I can hear Bowen jumping in the crib,, guess he's up from his nap!
Later... 7:45pm and just put both kids to bed (both kids go down like a dream -knock on wood...) Anyways,,, We had a great visit with Reef and Auntie. The kids had a lot of fun together. Bowen adores the babies and very much plays the older brother role by bringing them toys, helping with diapers, bottles and of course the occasional push and hit too. Norah loves watching his every move and I think Reef did too (a bit overwhelmed by his craziness sometimes, but interested nonetheless). We had a great visit with Great Grandma, Pa, Aunt Roseanne, Aunt Becka, Shana, Nicholas, Isabella, Kathleen and many more cousins, aunts and uncles,,, It was great to see everyone (and just to let everyone that was their know; Bowen was very affected by Pa's bleeding booboo on his head from their wrestling match- he's still talking about it). We had a fun day at Lake Compounce with Auntie and Gabe's friends Meg and Parker. Of course we had Bowen's 2yr Birthday! I still can't believe he's TWO! He was really into it all this year; loved the truck themed cake and party supplies, loved the singing Happy Birthday and candle blowing part, loved ALL his wonderful presents,, THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE! Bowen is talking up a storm these days and makes us laugh soo much! He's a big ham, that's for sure. Many of you have seen his "faces"; happy, sad and surprised... too funny! He's going through a wierd obssesion with socks right now and will carry a dozen around with him all over the house. My Mom said I actually went through the same phase,,, wierd! Norah continues to be the happiest, sweetest most pleasant baby I've ever known (knock on wood, again!). She's always soo content to just sit and play with toys or watch me, Bowen, the pets, whatever! Mike has this feeling she'll make us pay for this easy stage when she's a teenager??!! I think she's going to stay this mellow forever! Mike has always only wanted 2 kids, but says if there's a baby out there that makes him want another its her!
July 5th. Norah had her 6 month appt. today and all is well. She continues to be our little peanut weighing in at 14 lbs 12 oz. She's in the 25th percentile for weight, height and head size. She's a petite little princess!! Dr. Stuart is always impressed by her gross motor skills as she was standing with little to no support tonight!! My reaction; YIKES... as I can see her crawling, crusing and walking is just around the corner. We'll be back in a few weeks for Bowen's 2 yeart appt-- so hard to believe!!!!!!
July 1st. Norah is 6 months old!! I feel like a broken record, but, I can't belive how fast 6 months have gone by and I know I will be saying this come Jan 1st! Norah is getting so big,, she's LOVING the jumperoo more than anything these days. Its sooo cute, she gets in and begins jumping like a crazy lady and has the biggest smile on her face! She's also loving her toys, playing on the floor, rolling, watching her crazy big brother, babbling up a storm. There's a lot of drooling going on, so cutting teeth days are close. She has been sleeping through the night for a few weeks now (knock on wood). To bed by 8ish and sleeps usually at least 5-6 and sometimes goes back down for a bit (sometimes not, leaving Mommy and Daddy tired on these mornings),, sometimes she'll sleep till 7 or later. So, inconsistent in the AM, but for 6 months she's doing great! Bowen LOVES her. He needs to know where she is ALL the time; getting up in the AM, waking up from naps; she's the first person he asks for, "Baby?". Her name may become "Baby" permanently in our house as so far he only calls her that. He is saying a ton of words now too and repeating and mimicking a lot of what we do and say. He is very soft spoken when we're out and about, but at home nobody else can get a word in edge wise! We are enjoying the summer out in the yard, over friends houses, swimming in pools. We have not done the beach yet, but hope to soon. Bowen loves swimming and can swim independently with a vest or arm bands on. He also jumps in and can go under water. We are also beginning potty training with Bowen. So far, he goes both pee and poop on the potty. He's still in diapers b/c he's not consistent yet, but he's getting the hang of it and the routine of potty, wipe, wash hands, and he gets to put a sticker on the door,, so we'll just go with it for now. The basement project continues... Mike is doing a wonderful job and doing it a top speed with the goal of complettion by mid-July; in time for Addie and Reef's visit and before he leaves for his week in Ireland (trip he's taking with his Mom and 2 Aunts). It will be soo nice to have that space and the extra room for guests to stay, but I'm also looking forward to some relaxing weekends hopefully in August without a zillion different projects going on!
June 6, 2007. We are in project galore mode right now! Mike is busy, busy finishing off a portion of our basement, most importantly to have a guest room available and the big nice family room will be nice too! We are also having a new stamped concrete patio put in the back and walkway in the front. AND,,, having central air put in. The patios and central air are being contracted out, THANK GOODNESS!!! We are very much enjoying the whole patio process. Mark is the concrete guy's name, whom Bowen has become quite fond of. He's been here several days over the past couple weeks and Bowen has renamed him "Markhole" because we began saying here's Mark to dig the hole in the beginning of the project. Today was the biggest day of all because the cement mixer truck came to our house to pour the patios- it was boy-heaven here today. We had a little patio pouring party with the Lisa and the boys (+ Rory slept through the whole party), Dave and the boys (Ryan slept through almost the whole party). The all loved it and of course I got some great video of it all!
May 25th. Slowly, but surely the colds seem to be passing through all of us. We're almost back to full health again (knock on wood...).
Bowen is interested in every boyish thing there is! Of course, there is the ongoing infatuation with trucks and tractors, we now can add tools to that!! And, not the cute Little Tykes made specifically for toddlers,, no, no... Daddy's are sooo much cooler. He loves to torment me by walking around, even up and down stairs, with 5 screwdrivers in his arms at one time (a mother can only envision the variaties of disasters that could lead to...). Notice the picture of him in the wagon with 4 screwdrivers, 1 wrench and 1 caulking gun. He would not go for a walk without all of these!! Oh well, Norah's still my little princess girlie girl (until she starts picking out her own toys, i guess!)
May 21st. We had a wonderful time in Disney World,, mostly for the quality family time it provided! Bowen's favorite thing was riding the buses (and monorail) everywhere I think. He definitely was into the characters too. He loved honking their noses and poking them in the eyes (I'm sure they're quite use that though...). He LOVED swimming in the pool with Nana- he woke up every morning saying "pool, nana, pool, nana..." too cute! I had a cold the entire time, kind of a bummer, and now Bowen and Norah have caught it,,,,YUCK. That along with Mike's allergies flaring up make our house a germ haven. Oh well, it'll make us all stronger in the long run... Stay tuned for the addition of a Disney video I'm almost through editing (get the popcorn ready-it'll be 20ish minutes).
April 23. Bowen's changes for the family For those of you who know our dogs, Bowen has officially renamed them from Cole and Lily to Barf and Lala. Also, baby is now "babyaah" in our house
April 18. We had a major first in our world of parenting a toddler and a toddler-to-be tonight; a visit to Chuck E. Cheese. Wow . . . stimulus overload. Seriously, the Bob the Builder Tractor was a HUGE hit. Check out the pictures of Bowen and Norah taking a ride. Mom was terrified of the potential for us contracting the asian bird flu or denghi fever but it looks like we all came out unscathed.
April 15. Norah had her first plane trip last week for a whirlwind trip to South Carolina to be with family. MyAunt tragically died in a car crash. So, although the circumstances were very sad, it was good to be with family and offer support and love during such a difficult time. It's a reminder of how precious life is and to make the most of every moment. Otherwise, we are doing well here. Its been a month of babies (again! -it seems like I was just typing that same thing a few months ago,, babies everywhere...). Our friends Missy and Arty just had their second (a baby boy named Jayce Ari Ocean), my cousin Chad and Shana had their second (a girl named Isabella) and another friend Jennifer Martin had her first baby boy. Our friends Lisa and Brendan will be having their 3rd (boy- they think?!) any day now. WELCOME TO ALL THE NEW BABIES! And, we got together with friends Heather, Chris and twins and Tracey, Mike and Jack (see pics). Meanwhile, we are trying to keep our crazed 20.5 and 3.5 month old busy on this rainy Sunday!! Hopefully away from our wallets (see pics). Oh, and incase this happens to you- the bank will give you a new bill as long as the serial number is intact. The teller had a good laugh, but I'm sure it wasn't a first!!
March 27, 2007. I'm starting to see why I hear other Mom's say going from 1 to 2 children is like going from 1 to 20. Bowen is keeping us busy with a short(thankgoodness) bout of the flu or something on Sunday night. Projectile vomitting all over the kitchen (they don't run to the bathroom...) Poor thing, yesterday he was still tired and not himself but today he's seeming much better :)! Last week we were at the pediatrician (pictures of him peeking around the door) with hives all over. She diagnosed him with eczema and perscribed a steroid cream. We've been keeping his skin nice and moist (not even having to use the steroid cream anymore) and it seems much better this week. And,, the ongoing battle of teething... Of course, during all of this we have our 3 month old adding her own bit of excitement. Needless to say our household is a busy one these days! In the midst of our busy lives its so fun to see Bowen learn another word every day (today his new words were puppy and juice -he kept pointing to his sippy cup of water saying "juice". It so funny, we haven't even given him juice yet! So,, we'll pretend... Too cute! He weighed 27lbs at the Dr. office last week and he was cracking us and the Dr. up babbling away there. Norah is approaching 3 months which is so hard to believe! She weighed 11lbs 15 oz last week (I took advantage of the infant scale during Bowen's Dr. appt). She is cooing away and a happy little girl (except between 6-9ish- fussy time). She is busy discovering her hands and really trying to get that thumb in her mouth. Any or all of the following describe our life right now; Crazy, wonderful, fun, tiring, memorable and exhausting! We are soo lucky and wouldn't change a thing!
March 10th. Norah's update from 2 month appt. Weight; 11lb 2oz Length; 21 3/4" She's just over 50th percentile for weight (pretty good for starting out at 6lb 1oz) but she's still a little peanut compared to cousins Reef and Thomas who are both BIG for their age. She's 25th percentile for both length and head size, so she's a bit chunky and a bit short right now, still has a whole bunch of hair-- too cute!
Feb 26th. At 19 months Bowen's speech is developing rapidly with new words emerging everyday. This is so fun and cute to hear and watch,,, However, most of the time to get his point across he reverts to the very caveman sounding toddlerese ("uuhhh uuuhhh uuuhhh" and pointing). So, as fun and cute as the speech development is, it can be quite frustrating at times too (usually after about the 4 billionth time of us saying "use your words"). Some of his favorite words right now include; Pop, yes, bubble, bug-aa bug-aa (meaning yet to be determined), mooo, baa baa, mee-ah (his version of meow), arf and the most used right now are any versions of Daddy -Daaaadeeee, Daddoo, Dad, Dada (going through a major daddy fixation phase!) Norah has starting smiling and cooing, too cute! She loves looking at her mobile in her crib, the ceiling fan, lights and our faces. She continues to gain weight very fast (we'll see how fast on Thursday at her 2 month appt) and now has the pudgiest cheeks, belly and legs to show for it.
Feburary 3. We are all feeling much better here, thank goodness!! Norah still has a bit of congestion (mostly at night), but 1000x's better than last week,,, PHEW. We had combined Dr. appt last Thursday (Bowen's 18 month and Norah's 1 month). Both passed with flying colors. Bowen weighed 24lbs 11oz and Norah 8lbs 13oz- both less than expected probably due to these colds. Bowen had his last vaccines until he's 4,, YEAH! Dr. Stuart was impressed with how well Norah holds her head up for 1 month old.
January 27. So, yes things have been a bit crazy here (see previous story). Bowen has been sick with a cold for over a week now. As much as we tried to keep Norah away and healthy (Bowen doesn't quite get the hang of covering his mouth) she ended up catching it and has been sick since Wednesday. Its hard having sick babies but its so heartbreaking having a sick 3 week old because they can't take any medication yet and soo soo tiny. You can use saline drops and the aspirator to break up and suck out the congestion. So we're doing that around the clock, taking her temperature and monitoring her breathing to make sure it doesn't get into her lungs (both are more serious and will bring us back to the Dr.). At least she won't remember this. Mommy and Daddy will never forget! Otherwise, Norah is doing well. She has been gaining weight like a champ at about a pound per week. I brought her in on Thursday for her cold and she weighed 8lb 12oz. She's all cheeks now (and hair of course) and still has her petite nose, lips, eyes -she still looks like the cutest little doll! Bowen loves being the big brother (most of the time!). Our pediatrician calls his age the "kiss, kiss, hit" age -you never know what he's going to do with the baby. This is very true. He loves to hold her (supervised by Mommy or Daddy) and was holding and kissing her the other day until he decided he was done and shoved her off his lap... YIKES... Mommy was there to catch Norah... PHEW.. It's easy to see how the second child grows up pretty hearty. All in all Bowen has been doing great considering he's also been sick with another cold and not entirely himself.
