Stories
January 22. I guess I have been pretty busy seeing I typed the date here but then forgot to come back it finish with the story!! A sick toddler and 3 week old will do that I guess.
January 3, 2007. Wow what a New Year! As some of you are aware, Sunday evening Bethany and I attended Bethany's friend (Sue Brennan's) wedding. It was a lovely ceremony and we were having a great time at the reception but shortly after the salad was served Bethany started to feel contractions. With Bethany's C-Section scheduled for January 9th, we joked about the possibility of a Baby New Year but we were clearly only joking as evidenced by the fact that we had no bag packed and I couldn't remeber if you time from the beginning of one contraction to the end of the next . . . . still not sure.
Anyway, we arrived at the hospital around 10:45PM on New Years's Eve and Bethany's contractions started to worsen. By Midnight the Doctor decided that Norah was to arrive early and shortly thereafter Norah arrived at 1:36am. Sadly Norah was 1st Runner Up in the Rhode Island 1st Baby of the Year Contest, but she was the 1st Baby to arrive in Newport County (see Family Photo in the Newport Daily News, January 3, 2007, Front Page of Local News Section).
Well I have to get back to hospital but Mother and Daughter and newly crowned Big Brother are all doing well. Enjoy the pictures of our new arrival and Happy New Year!!!!
December 27. Well now that Christmas is over we can breath and relax a bit again... We had a sick toddler beginning the Friday before Christmas with a bronchitis diagnosis from the pediatrician. That morning he wasn't too bad; just had a slight fever, a horse sounding cough and hadn't slept well. So we went to the Dr. then to CVS to pick up his meds, then home for a nap. After a 2hr 15 minute nap he woke up crying, VERY weasy, with a MUCH worse horse sounding cough (barely able to get a breath in,, really) and feeling very hot- with all of this going on I really almost lost it and called 911... I was able to calm him down, just holding him and b/c of the cough meds w/ Codine I had given him just before he was also barely awake through all this.. REALLY freaked me out to say the least (wonderful stressor at 37 weeks pregnant!)... Thank goodness Mike's office was closing early and I knew he'd be home. So, he got home 1 1/2 hr later and I was finally able have another set of hands to take his temp as he was still burning up. And, yes to freak me out more his temp was 103.7... So, I called the Dr.,, he said to give him motrin to get the temp down, which should directly affect his breathing. It took over an hour to really help, but eventually (once we went to the dr. office again- to have him do a recheck) he did seem better,, figures... The Dr. said breathing in the cold air usually helps too. So, poor Bowen was not 100% for all the holiday fun, but we made the best of it. He's finally done with his 5 days of meds and still has a lingering cough and congestion,, but sooo much better... and,,, oh yeah,, 2 weeks (or less) until Norah arrives!! Maybe a New Year Baby??
December 12. Santa's a busy guy!! We saw him 4 times last Saturday... First at a breakfast with Santa in the morning, then he quickly made his way to the Christmas tree farm where we bought our tree and then he was off to the garden center in the afternoon (here's where we got a great picture with him, Bowen and the dogs -which happens to be this year's Christmas card and yours is in the mail now :) and one last time, we rode a horse drawn wagon and sang Christmas carols. WOW Santa works some serious magic this time of year.. On Sunday Mommy and Daddy went crib shopping for Norah and luckily were successful without too much trouble as the countdown is on till her arrival!
December 8. Wow, its been a while since the last story. We just got a new computer it wasn't compatible with putting stories on here, but its now fixed and we're back! We've done a lot since 10/23. Babies, babies, babies is the theme for November. With the exciting arrivals of both cousins Reef and Thomas on November 21!! A couple other good friends; Heather with twins arriving at the end of October and Tracey just had a son Dec. 1st. My due date (Jan 15) is fast approaching with the C-section scheduled for Jan. 9th (a month to go!). Mike's best friend Larry's wife Lisa is also due Jan 15th. My cousin Chad and Shana are expecting their 2nd in March. Other good friends Lisa and Missy are both due in April.... Jeez, its the time for babies I guess, be prepared for a population boom in the next several months! We had a great visit with Auntie, Uncle and Cousin Reef in San Fran last month and were lucky enough that Reef decided to join us while we were there. We were able to enjoy a few days with Auntie and Uncle before Reef's arrival; we went to the zoo, parks... and then to the hospital every day to visit the new happy family. Bowen began saying HI out there, which is so cute hearing the speech develop little by little. He was walking around the house tonight saying HO HO HO. Too cute!! We met cousin Thomas the following weekend, another cutie! All great preparation for Norah's arrival in January (we hope at least). We painted Norah's room last weekend with a garden theme (Bowen loves the sun!) and plan to get the crib and changing table this weekend.
Oct. 23 We just got home from a wonderful trip to visit our friends in the DC area. They were generous enough to let us stay with them. They have 2 children; 5 year old Cori and 20 month old Sophie. Needless to say Bowen had a great time playing with them! We all had a really fun visit as apparent in our pictures!!
October 14, 2006
Music Class We've been in music class for over a month now and I finally remember to bring my camera to capture Bowen developing his PMD (primary music development- the nurturing window which kids learn rhythm and become musical enough to be in an orchestra,, according to our teacher Barbi (I must have missed that part of childhood, but am trying to develop some now along with Bowen!!). Anyways, I finally have my camera on the day Bowen falls right in a puddle as we're walking in! And, of course I don't have extra pants for him... So, I check lost and found to borrow something and since this is a ballet studio also, all there is in lost and found are tights and tutus. Bowen would be just as happy in a pink tutu, but Mike would die,, so pantsless he went and as happy as ever.
Oct 9, 2006 We had a great visit with Uncle Chris, Aunt Stacey, Molly and Nana yesterday in Boston. Bowen had his first trip on the T, had lunch at Fanual Hall and spent a couple hours playing in the Children's area at the Museum of Science. What fun! Bowen loved it from beginning to end. It even took him a while to get past the first little toy exhibit (putting the balls in the curly tube). On to a cave, to the water table, to the beehive, to the suspended beach ball.... never ending fun!!! It's also so much fun for us to see him explore with such wonder and amazment! We recommend it to all (and bring your Roger Williams Zoo membership card if you have one,, this gets you in free!!!).
September 19, 2006 Mike and I spent our first ALONE overnight in Block Island this past Sunday!! Kind of wierd and took some adjusting to get used to, but in the end it was a nice getaway and great way to celebrate our 3rd anniversary! We lucked out with beautiful weather both days. We walked around town, shopped, rented beach cruisers and biked 10ish miles and hiked the 150 stairs to Mohegan Bluffs all leaving me quite sore (maybe not the usual activities in someone's 24th week of pregnancy...???). On the more relaxing side we stayed at the 1661 Inn; lovely and quaint, overlooking the ocean, we enjoyed a delicious dinner across the street at the Hotel Manisses, gourmet breakfast brunch the next morning at the Inn, a guided tour of the Island. Bowen had his first stay overnight at Grammy's house and had a blast. He learned some new tricks including Ring Around the Rosies (he spins around until he falls from dizziness) and pointing to the band-aid covered bobo on his knee. I made it through the stay with only having to call and check in 4-5 times,, not too bad for first timers!!
Sept. 7 A big group of fellow past and present Pfizerites, now Mom's met today at a park. What a fun day we had! It was great to see all of these people whom we used to see every day at work in such a different setting. How times have changed!! We reminisced about the good old days of being young working people without children. We'd have been enjoying a beautiful,
relaxing day at the park, maybe a beer or 2... HA! Now its diapers, sippy cups, chasing toddlers up and down the stairs of the slide... and maybe a bite of the sandwiches we brought for ourselves if we're lucky!! Of course, none of us would change a thing, though!!
Aug. 29 We went to the zoo for a couple hours today. It was so cute to see Bowen really enjoy it and get more out of it than our last trip a few months ago. We saw zebras, elephants, a chettah, giraffes, lemurs, flamingos and some other bird with funny head feathers whom pecks at your fingers through the glass. We got close ups of everyone and Bowen waved to all of them, so cute!!! He seemed to recognize the zebras, elephants and giraffes from being in a few of the books we read regularly.
Aug. 27. Bowen is 13 months and life gets more interesting every day for us! Some things going on; walking faster and steadier every day. Learning a few words- mama, dada, dog, cat and alot of "da's" and pointing (meaning "I want that" or "what's that?") and identifies sounds; if he hears an airplane, but can't see it he points to the sky; motorcycle or trucks, he stops everything to find it and points. He's pointing at everything and everyone from the second he's awake till he goes to sleep. He's mesmorized by tractors and trucks!
He LOVES his books; being read to and pulling all his books out and flipping through his favorites (including The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Good Night Moon, a cute nursrey rhyme book which when you turn to the last rhyme he learned to knock on the page when it says "rapping at the window", Peek-a-boo kisses which he kisses every animal, and finally Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star which has always been the last one before night, night.
We are getting prepared to welcome our baby girl in Janurary. We found out during the anatomical U/S that she is most probably a "she". The technician was almost positive; she said go ahead and buy pink, but keep the reciept :) So we're building our wardrobe of dresses and cutsie girl clothes!!
We are also dealing with Bowen's slowly erupting molars. He ran a fever all last week and was not himself (wouldn't eat his dinner last tuesday- really not himself as he's an eater! finally drank 2 glasses of milk). Poor guy... He's seeming better and fever finally broke last Friday. We're still patiently awaiting those teeth to show themselves though...
August 4th, What a year, Bowen is
ONE! So many firsts, milestones and developments to experience with Bowen. Parenthood is soo much more fulfilling than either Mike or I ever expected. His first birthday was a success; loved his cake (apparent from the blue moustache pic!), his presents (not too much into the opening, but loving playing with all his new toys!) and spending time with all his family and friends. Thank You everyone for helping make his birthday so special! Stay tuned for more exciting years to come.
HI Everyone, Since my Mom hasn't updated with a story in a while, I tell you what's going on. I'm beginning to take my first steps, its a lot of fun, but I usually get very excited and lunge and fall after 3 or 4 steps. Won't Cole, Lily and Nunu be so happy when I can run and chase them around the house! Although, my Mommy doesn't seem to think so??!! I'm going to be one in only a couple weeks now! Wow, that year went by fast. My Auntie will be here for my birthday,, and Uncle Gabe a week later so we can have a baby shower for them and my cousin to be,, I can hardly wait! My Mommy is 15 weeks into the pregnancy and is feeling much better these days, she's very happy about that and I can't wait to meet my baby sister or brother in Janurary.
Hope to see most of you soon either at my birthday party or Auntie's baby shower!
Love, Bowen
June 9th. Oh my,, it's been way too long since I've updated with stories or pictures!!! I feel guilty (especially after looking at my friend Christine's site, whom updates weekly with nice lengthy and descriptive stories and has twins to boot). So,, we're back! Things have been busy... lets see... We took a nice weekend trip to Vermont last weekend with Lisa, Brendan, Liam and Owen (enjoyed many hours of paper airplanes off the loft of our log cabin and Bowen using the coffee table as a walker as it rained and rained all weekend). We also enjoyed Ben and Jerry's factory tour and samples at the end :) Bowen had a terrible cold/ear infection a couple weeks ago :() (but on the upside LOVED taking is amoxicillin morning and night! He's doing much better now :) Of course still getting settled in the new home (which takes about 1000 x's longer with a crawler here there and everywhere!!) We're still working on getting a lawn established (apparently hydroseeding and record-breaking rainfall aren't the best mix... oh well,, someday Bowen will have his grass to roll around in :) ...And, oh yeah, I'm pregnant again (most of you already now I'm sure!)!! We are very excited (with a touch of YIKES). Bowen will be 18 months when his baby brother or sister comes along. My due date is Jan. 15th. So,, we think we are busy now,,, HA!! I love the closeness in age and look forward to them being great buds and partners in crime I'm sure... We just had my first ultrasound and baby looks great with nice strong heartbeat. I'm about 9 weeks along now. I also had some preliminary blood work done, which gave us a bit of a scare... It came back positve for Hepatitis B. My midwife called immediately, I repeated the bloodwork and turns out it was a lab error,, a big sigh of relief... So, now we can relax enjoy the pregnancy (well once this constant state of nausea is over, a few more weeks.. hopefully) and enjoy Bowen's next 7 months as the only child :)
Well, I guess I've gone on long enough to make up for a couple months of nothing. I changed the homepage to this summer scene with falling suns hoping it may bring us some soon!!!
April 26. What a busy little boy we have on our hands these days! Mike said, we've just entered a whole new phase. He's crawling very fast now and into EVERYTHING (except his toys of course)... The dog's water and food dishes, the cat scratching ramp and the cat door are a few of the current favorites. Its soo funny to watch him explore (and a bit exhausting). 9 months,, wow, how time flies is all I can say!! Bowen will be welcoming a new cousin in November! My sister Adrienne is pregnant for those of you whom haven't heard their wonderful news,,, Congratulations Auntie and Unc!
April 13. Jeez,, its been over a month since I've typed anything!! We were without internet for a couple weeks during the move, but now we're in the new home and getting settled. We are all enjoying our new home so much, especially the silence of no tenants upstairs and ability to spread out beyond a 1000 sq ft apartment! Bowen began crawling around 8 months (just in time to explore the new house to its fullest) and has not stopped since. He's so busy investigating everything, pulling up to a stand and crusing about on furniture, dogs and all everything else he can find! What a great stage to watch! He now has 8 teeth and is still loving a wide variety of food including beginning some solids, yum yum!
Feburary 24. We just got home from visiting Auntie Adrienne and Uncle Gabe in California. We had a wonderful visit! Bowen experienced his first plane ride and loved it! He was the hit of every plane with smiles for everyone and actually enjoyed any turbulence and the stomach dropping sensation. We stayed quite busy with swimming (bowen's first pool swim), watching the Tour de California cycling race through the hills of San Fran (Mike and Gabe's favorite day!), constant entertainment from doggy cousins Ueber and Lahi, birthday dinner for Auntie Adrienne and Mike. A great trip! Thanks Auntie and Uncle for having us, we'll miss you!!!
January 27th. Wow, Bowen is 6 months old!!! How time has flown since his birth. Kind of bittersweet for me actually. We are enjoying him soo much and really look forward to all the fun yet to come, but he's not a tiny baby anymore!! He's cutting his two bottom teeth, he's eating bananas, apples and sweet potatoes (and can't get enough as expected), he's sitting on his own, he's pushing up on all four and rocking (crawling not too far away!). He's quite the little daredevil, he loves when Daddy hangs him upside down!
December 31st. Hi everyone! My first Christmas was soo much fun... I was quite the party boy,, we spent Christmas Eve with the Healey side of my family, Christmas morning at Grammy's house and on to the Rossi's later on that day! Santa left presents everywhere for me,, I'm such a lucky boy!! My favorite part was definitely crinkling and chewing on wrapping paper. My mommy and daddy's favorite part was having me here this year! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
