December 10th. We've been trying to get a cute picture with Bowen and dogs for a holiday card. Well not the easiest of tasks to get everyone's cooperation at the same time!! We tried, tried and tried again though... see pictures!! Well, finally today we did it,, so you'll all be getting yours in the mail soon.. Until then, have fun shopping, baking, decorating and other holiday fun!
Dec. 5th - During the past few days Bowen has experienced a lot of "firsts." On Sunday, Bowen was belly-laughing as he watched his dogs wrestle in the snow during his first snowfall. Later that same day he had his first sampling of "real" food - some delicious cereal . . . mmmm. And then the biggest first came today as he
rolled over for the first time - yeah Bowen!
Nov. 28,, We had Bowen's 4 month dr appt. today. He's looking great! He weighed in at 15lb 10oz and 26 1/4" tall, putting him in the 50-75% for weight and height. He was a bit fussier than normal last week (making dining outings and car rides difficult :() Well, as it turns out he may have had a ear infection. Today Dr. Sahm noticed redness and swelling. The poor guy,, he wasn't showing any signs of ear pain, so we didn't even think of that. At least its clearing up now. We'll go back next week for a recheck and if not totally better at that time we'll treat with antibiotics. If he did have an infection he seemed much better on Thanksgiving day, so we were all able to enjoy the holiday!! Auntie Adrienne and Uncle Gabe were out for a visit. Having not seen him since his first week, we all had a blast spending time together.
Novemeber 4.
Bowen's first Halloween was a blast (probably more fun for mommy, daddy and grandparents this year!). He did enjoy all the colorful costumes on the fellow babies at the mom's group halloween party!! We went around to a few neighbors' houses trick or treating. He grabbed a lollipop from our neighbor and carried it around- I knew he'd have a sweet tooth! In reality, he was our excuse to collect some treats and he enjoyed some candy flavored milk from mom later that night)!
October 24. 3 months old! He's growing and developing so fast right before our eyes. Its so wonderful to watch... He now has a large vocabulary of goos, gaas, coos and the start of little laughs. He's also mr. busy body with his hands (in his mouth, together and beginning to grab for toys and our hands and faces) and legs kicking and in the air. He has great control of his head and just starting to notice every little thing around. He's beginning to enjoy watching a little TV (baby einstien, the today show or whatever really!), which gives me a little time to get breakfast or a shower in... Every month gets easier as far as learning his napping schedule, happy times and fussy times. He really seems to recognize my voice and face; yet another heart melting experience!
October 8. Well, we made it through his first shots,, phew. He was very brave, I was more of a wreck than he was. He had a few tears, then was over it,, I was still crying. That was on Thursday so we're past the window of possible side effects and all is well. He also just made it through his first cold last week. The poor little guy was soo stuffy and using that bulb syringe feels like the meanest thing! He's doing much better now :) He's getting more and more alert each day now. He recognizes Daddy and Mommy's voices and looks around to see where we are in the room. He's still growing like crazy! At his Dr. appt he weighed in at 13lbs 11oz and was 24.5" long (90th percentile for weight and 75th for length). Grammy's babysitting tonight while Mike and I go out to dinner, weehhooee!
Sept. 24 WOW! Bowen is 2 months old and is growing soo fast... He's just about doubled his birth weight and has grown out of most of his 0-3 month clothes!! Mike and I are having such a blast watching him grow and develop. His smiles and laughs melt our hearts! Parenthood is truely the best life experience we've had!! We just returned from our first family vacation with Grammy and Skip. They babysat while we went to Tracey and Mike's wedding in the Cape last night. 6 hours apart... the longest separation yet... We had a great time, but confessed to missing him on the way home. Mike wants to hold him like this forever and not to grow! We're savoring these first months and look forward to all the fun to come!!!
Sept. 2 Bowen is 5 weeks old (I cannot belive 5 weeks have gone by)!!!!!! He just had his month check up and he's doing great. He's growing like crazy- he weighed in a 10lbs 13.5 oz and 23.5 inches long; he's in the 75% for weight and hieght and 50% for head size (thank goodness, he must have a Healey head and not a Rossi). He is so very alert these days and taking in this whole new world,, its really fun to see the wonder in his eyes! He's smiling and laughing too,, probably just practicing his facial expressions or gas!,, but we like to think its directed right at us!
Sat, August ? (can't seem to keep track of time these days!). We're all doing really well! Getting to know Bowen has been such a blast! He loves his morning naps and in the afternoons, needs a little more cuddling to get to sleep. He LOVES to eat!! About every 2-3 hrs during the day and we've been lucky enough to get in some 3-4 hour stretches at night. The animals have all taken quite the liking to him. Nunu likes to be around wherever we are (even in the middle of the night) and just hangs out with us. Lily tries to get in as many kisses as she possibly can and Cole is semi-interested, but more interested in how to keep cool on these 90 degree days and where his next meal is coming from! I'm feeling so much better than last week and still improving daily and can't wait to be up to taking Bowen out for nice long walks (and runs down the road a bit). Thank Goodness for my Mom's help over the past weeks (making dinners, doing laundry, cleaning...) and my sister's help while she was here (especially helping during labor contractions).
So, all in all, parenting so far has been quite the experience; filled with both the most wonderful and challenging moments at the same time. We're are savoring these early days of our life with Bowen!!
August 6th. Bowen passed his 1 week checkup with flying colors! He's doing great... the rest of the family (dogs, cat, mom and dad don't know what hit them :) For all friends and family we have yet to talk to, please accept our apologies; we are still trying to figure out this new life with baby thing!!!
August 3. Today is the day that Bowen was supposed to arrive but as you know he decided to arrive a little early. Things got started on Thursday morning, Bethany started feeling contractions at 4:30am and woke me up about an hour later. Before too long contractions started coming every five minutes and so we were off to the hospital. After about 8 hours of labor Bethany got an epidural and they were going to give her potosin to strengthen her contractions. However, Bowen really didn't like these stronger contractions and his heart rate would drop at the end of each contraction and rebound a minute later (very scary). After this happened a few times the doctors decided they would speed up Bowen's arrival even more and deliver him by ceasarian section. So they wisked Bethany into the OR and then brought me in to keep her company and just minutes later we heard his first cry. It was absoulutely incredible. I then spent the next half hour with Bowen waiting for Bethany to come back from surgery. We then spent the next four days in the hospital getting to know each other and came home on Monday.
June 30. We had a wonderful time at our baby shower last Sunday. Thanks to all who attended making it a truly memorable event! Thanks to everyone's generosity and thoughtfulness, we now have a house ready for baby's arrival :) now we just need the baby!! We are having a blast setting up his room, organizing clothes and playing with toys,, and mostly getting very excited and anxious to meet him!!
June 9. It feels like we went from Winter to Summer in a week!! 90 degrees has been more interesting from a pregnant lady's perspective... wow! Other than being HOT,,, still feeling pretty good :) I think I'll be spending a lot of time in either the ocean, under my shaded porch or in the A/C for the next couple months!
April 27. Well my break is over, back to school this Sat. I have a busy few months ahead, balancing work with school on Sat. days and Tues nights. However, if all goes well with pregnancy, I'll hopefully finish massage therapy classes late July, right
before Baby's arrival (
if he follows intructions). After enjoying a few months of learning the life of a new Mom :) work part-time massage therapy somehow into my life....
March 30. HI All, We're back from our cruise to the Western Caribbean. We visited Grand Caymans, Belize, Honduras and Cozumel and thoroughly enjoyed every minute! We got in some snorkling with sting rays and nurse sharks in Belize and played with macaws and monkeys in Honduras and enjoyed the beaches in the Caymans and Mexico. All was great and a little R&R was just what we needed!
