11/23/06-- Happy Thanksgiving! We celebrated by going to the Verano Place Thanksgiving luncheon where we all had turkey, dressing, and mashed potatoes. And now it's nap time...! 11/20/06-- Today Jake knows what a snake says, "Ssssss," and what a lizard does (sticks out its tounge a lot). He's figured out how to say "Sumie," our cat's name. 11/16/06-- Today Jacob knows what a bird says, "Deep Dee Deep Deep!" He's been practicing his hugs in preparation for Christmas, too. He's not satisfied with only Sleep Monkey and Wake Monkey, he ALSO has to hold Daddy Monkey and Heidigerrr Bear at the same time. Such big hugs! He's also been trying to pick up the kitties, with little success. He's become a dancin' feind-- most recently discovering the tunes of the Beatles and dancing in the Chick-fil-A to "99 Red Luft Balloons." He spent this morning playing basketball at the playground--he's great at dunking, but gets a lot of traveling calls. 11/13/06-- After a trip to Mommy's doctor, Jacob was treated to lunch at the Penguin Cafe. He barely ate his grilled cheese sandwich or his fruit, choosing instead to wave and say, "Hi!" to everyone. Afterwards, the pair went to the beach and played on the playground. Then they went walking and got all wet playing in the tide. 11/03/06-- Jacob updates: Jacob has picked up the sign for pacifier. He can now say "yes," "juice," and Jacob." He can open all of our doors. He's gotten much better at taking naps and going to bed. He loves to color in the bath. He tries to give the kitties kisses. He can sing the "Meow Mix" song. He's really good at puzzles. He likes to play cars with the little boys next door. He tries to climb on everything! He can point out his relatives in pictures when asked questions like, "Where's Gram? Where's Mommy-O? Where's Grandad?" 10/31/06-- Happy Halloween! Jacob spent the afternoon trick-or-treating at the University Center. He entered the costume contest and won Second Place Most Creative. He got a trophy and a goodie bag. Jake got to have candy for the first time and kept signing "more! more!" very excitedly. 10/28/06-- This morning the family went to the Verano Place pancake breakfast. Jake went dressed as a dinosaur and ate some pumpkin pancakes. Then all of the kids went to play on the playground where there was a costume contest. Jacob won "Scariest Costume" because of his great dinosaur roar. Later tonight we'll carve a pumpkin and eat potluck with some of the neighbors. 10/23/06-- Today Jacob had many small adventures. First he went for a haircut. Since he was good, he then went to Starbucks for a Vanilla Milk treat-- this somehow geared him to suddenly be able to point to the cow on the carton and know what a cow says (vuuuu). Then he went to the playground and slid down the slide on his tummy over and over. Then it was back home for lunch where he said two new words, juice and yes. 10/11/06-- Somehow Jacob woke up this morning knowing what sounds dogs and monkeys make, so that brings the tally to dinosaur, cat, dog, and monkey. He's also started singing and dancing when we sing the Elmo song. He watched his first episode of Sesame Street yesterday (when he woke up at 6 stinking 30) and already picked it up. Please do NOT take this as an invitation to purchase any singing or dancing Elmos. We will no longer be friends/family if this happens. 10/10/06-- Jacob ate a TON of spaghetti today. Look out growth spurt...! He's also added another animal sound to his collection-- he can now answer the question, "What does the kitty say?" Mo! 10/9/06-- Today Jessica had to work in the computer lab, so Jacob went for a visit to Juliana's house for a couple of hours. Jake was a little upset about this, but enjoyed a trip to the park. 10/6/06-- Today Jacob and Jessica, Hope and Ethan, and Bridget went to IHOP for breakfast. After eating a scrambled egg, Jake and Jessica and Bridget went across the street to Tanaka Farms to play in the pumpkin patch. 10/4/06-- Jake got to stay up late for the LOST premiere. He met a cute doggy, Phoebe, and loved to have her lick his hands. 10/3/06-- After a trip to the DMV, Jacob and Jessica went to the zoo. Jake loved the playground and really figured out the slide. His favorite animals this time were the ring-tailed lemurs. Now, Jacob can not only roar like a dinosaur, but after being yelled at by some sheep, he now knows the answer to the question, "What's the sheep say?" Why, "Maaa," of course! 9/29/06-- Jacob likes to feed the cats every morning when he gets up. Mommy or Daddy helps him with the scoop, but he's the one who pours the food into each bowl. He also likes to give the kitties treats. He will point to the treat jar and make the "help" sign to say, "Help me open this." Then we give him treats and he takes them to the cats. 9/25/06-- Jacob was left in a nursery for the first time ever today. He had absolutely no problem leaving his mom and played with tons and tons of toys. All of the nursery workers loved him and said that he was very quiet and sweet. There was a huge amount of worry (from mom, of course, not Jacob) since there were so many screaming and crying kids at the drop off, but Jake was unphased and prefered, instead, to focus on basketball. 9/24/06-- Today Jacob used his head. Literally! He and Jessica were wrestling on the couch when Jake slipped through her hands and head-butted her in the mouth. Jacob, of course, was fine, but Jessica has a slight case of busted lip. 9/21/06-- Despite having a boring afternoon with his sickly mother, Jacob had a fun evening with Daddy while Mommy went to class. The two boys went to Best Buy and Barnes and Noble. Jake got to look at books and play with the trains. Once he got home, Jacob had his first ever bubble bath. Mommy bought Curious George Tropical Scent Bubble Bath and she and Jake had a great time playing in the bubbles. At first he kept saying, "Eww! Eww!" but he later had a great time splashing and pouring water. 9/19/06-- Jacob went to the doctor today for his 18 month appointment. He is 31 3/4 inches tall; he weighs 25.8 pounds; and his head circumference is 19 inches. He got one shot today, but he got a Scooby Doo sticker so it was okay. He will not have another doctor's appointment (or at least we hope!) until he turns two.
