Stories

3/10/06--  Jacob had a wonderful day today.  He woke up and had somehow learned how to clap.  It was weird.  He was cuddly and sweet all day, took a two hour nap, and then woke up happy.  When his daddy came home Jake laughed and laughed.  He sat on both his mommy's and daddy's lap, would hug one, get up and smile, then hug the other.  It was so cute!  THEN he started blowing bubbles with his mouth.  Other things he's been working on:  walking, climbing into things, waving, the signs for "all done," "more," and "cheese."

3/7/06-- After a whirlwind trip, the Rhodes grandparents are headed back to Texas.  Jacob really enjoyed seeing them and showed his appreciation with lots of laughter and some walking advances.  He's able to walk a couple of steps at a time and is getting more and more steady with each try.

3/5/06-- Today we took a scenic drive through the Santa Ana Mountains to Lake Elsinore.  It was a beautiful drive and Jacob slept through the entire thing.  Jake is enjoying spending time with his grandparents.

2/24/06-- Jake has had quite a full day today!  First he went to the neighborhood park to play, then we met up with Rami and Maroua and went to another playground for toddlers.  There, Rami and Jacob held hands and Jake walked four steps.  We next walked to campus where we met up with Bridget and her dad. We waved "hi" to Kris in his class and showed off Jacob's walking skills to the other grad students.  Jake and Rami went to their first rock concert where they got free ice cream that they shared on the way home.  Tonight Jacob will be one of ten guests of honor at the Second Annual Pisces Party.  It's all the philosophy students who have birthdays...and Jacob.

2/22/06-- Jacob is not only working on his bottom incisors, but he's also cutting some molars, making him pretty cranky.  (Still the cutest baby ever)

2/20/06-- Jacob took a tiny step today!  It was just a shuffle which quickly went back to a crawl, but it's just another inch closer...

2/10/06-- Tooth numbers 7 and 8 are finally coming in on the bottom.  Jacob has also been giving "kisses."  If he sees Daddy give Mommy a kiss on the cheek, Jake will also give Mommy a kiss on the cheek by opening his mouth as wide as it will go and pressing his face into her cheek.  At first we wouldn't let him do it because we were afraid he was going to bite us, but so far, so good.

2/9/06-- I love Dr. Sears!!!  Two days ago I finished his book, "The Baby Sleep Book," and I've not had this much sleep since LAST February!  Last night I fed Jacob when I got home, but handed him over to Kris before he was completely asleep.  He fussed for a little bit, but fell right asleep as soon as Kris laid him down.  He woke up at 2:30, but was patted back to sleep.  Then at 7:15, he woke up and I fed him again.  This is a HUGE improvement from his waking up every two hours for "Mommy's 24 Hour Diner."  As an added bonus, he's taken TWO naps today--I usually only get one out of him.  I went to a doctor's appointment this morning, so on the way back, we stopped by the beach for a little while.  Jake thinks the seagulls are kitties and he really likes sand.  This is the first time I've actually let him play in it since he's been pretty good about not sticking EVERYTHING in his mouth.  It was a little foggy, but it made everything look like a painting--it was beautiful!  We stopped for pizza by the harbor and Jake took a nap the whole way home, AND to my delight, is STILL sleeping soundly in his crib.  Did I mention that I LOVE Dr. Sears!?!

2/3/06-- No bones about it, Jacob is standing.  He has been standing all day yesterday and all day today.  He's also improving his babbling and is starting to be able to imitate words.  He freaked us all out by repeating what seemed very like, "Hey Bridget."  He's also learned to initiate peek-a-boo with mommy and daddy.

1/28/06-- Jacob went to get a haircut today.  He was very good and wasn't scared a bit.  We will have pictures of the results later, as the little fella fell asleep as soon as we made it home.

1/25/06-- Jacob was a very brave boy today.  He had a blood draw for an anemia test and didn't cry a bit.  He was very good the entire time and got a sticker to prove it.
