4/8/08--  Today Jacob, Ella, and Jessica went to the park with Hope and Ethan.  They played on the playground for a while, fed the ducks, then met Bridget and Kate for lunch.

4/3/08--  Today Jacob went with Kate and Ethan (and their moms) to the Taco Bell Discovery Science Center.  He had a great time!  He was very excited to touch all the different exhibits and would run from one to the next.  His favorite thing was the Clifford the Big Red Dog play area where he put letters in the mail at the post office and played drums at the music room.  Jacob could have played there all day, but unfortunately, Ella had stayed awake and happy as long as she could and it was nap time for babies.  Later Jacob went to Harry's house to celebrate Harry's 4th birthday.  There was a green light saber cake and all of Harry's favorites: Skittles, Cheetos, blueberries, strawberries, gummy bears, and blackberries.  The kiddoes blew bubbles and played with balloons.  Later, good guys and bad guys played light sabers.  Once at home again, Ethan and Hope came over to play and have dinner while the daddies were philosophizing.

3/31/08--  Jacob went to the doctor today for his three year check up.  He weighs 34 pounds (70th%) and he is 38 inches tall (70th%).  He's right on track with everything.  He had a hemoglobin test so he had to get a finger prick, but he was great and didn't even cry.  (More details of the previous week are forthcoming!)

3/20/08-- Today (or maybe it was the next day, I'm writing this a month later and can't remember) Jacob went to the Tanaka Farms Strawberry Patch where he picked his very own basket of strawberries.  We didn't take the tour this year, but we did purchase a ton of extra strawberries to eat at home, as well as veggies for a stir fry dinner.

3/19/08--  Grandad came by in the morning before leaving for Texas.  Jacob was reluctant to wake up at first, but eventually made it downstairs to say goodbye.  Jessica was at work all day so Jacob hung out with Grandma, Daddy, and Ella.

3/18/08--  Happy Third Birthday, Jacob!!!  The family started off by having a birthday breakfast at IHOP with Grandad and Grandma.  Next was a grueling two hours spent at JCPenney's waiting for Jacob's three year pictures to be made.  Afterwards, everyone went to lunch and Jacob had his second favorite sandwich (turkey and cheese-- #1 is pb&j) and a juice.  Tummys full, it was back to the house for more romping.

3/17/08--  Today Jacob played with Grandad and Grandma.  Jake "helped" Grandad put Ella's car together and then helped push Ella around on it.

3/16/08--  Grandad is here!  The morning was spent playing dinosaurs with Grandad while Grandma and Mommy cooked a million cupcakes.  After lunch the two cars were loaded up and we moved a small village to the Verano Preschool.  We had everything-- cakes, drinks, cookies, fruit, and pizza.  Once the party started, Jacob was really really REALLY excited to see all his friends at his party.  They played outside, played inside, ate dinner, and finally it was time to sing.  Everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to Jacob first and then he proudly blew out the candle and yelled, "And now I'm threeeee!!!!!"  Next was Ella's turn.  Jacob laughed at Ella's attempt at eating her own cake (even though Jake's face was covered in frosting as well).  After he got all cleaned up, Jacob went around playing with his friends again until gift time.  Maybe this will work better next year, but once Jake opened the firetruck, it was all over.  He didn't care that there were more gifts to be opened.  He was done.  Jessica opened the rest of the gifts with some of the neighbor kids and we partied until we'd worn out every single adult in the room.  A good time was had by all.

3/15/08--  Grandma is here!  Today is full of baking and preparations for tomorrow's party.  There was a short break at 4:30 for the neighborhood Easter Egg hunt at the playground.  Jake had a lot of fun running around with all his friends and found quite a few eggs.  Grandad arrived this evening and will come by in the morning to help with the party and baby wrangling.

3/10/08--  When asked, "What do you want for your birthday, Jacob?" Jake replies, "I'm gonna be three!"  When probed further with, "So what present do you want?"  He says, "A three cake."  He is so excited about his birthday-- it'll will be great to see the look on his face when it finally happens!!!

3/10/08--  Today Jacob did two of his favorite things-- get a haircut and go to the doctor.  The haircut was planned and happened first thing in the morning.  The doctor visit was because when Jessica came home at 9:00 PM, Jacob was still awake on the couch.  He was tossing and turning and complaining that his ear and his neck hurt, so Kris took Jake to the ER.  There, he was diagnosed with a mild ear infection, given some medicine, and sent home.  He had no problems falling asleep and woke up happy the next day.

3/7/08--  Today after Jessica came home from work the kiddos met up on the playground to run around in circles.  Joining us were Kate, Ethan, Allison, and Quincy.  Jake had fun swinging on the big boy swing by himself, and once Kris met up with us after school, laughed and laughed at his Daddy-- mostly because it was funny to kick him repeatedly on the upswing.  Potty training is going pretty well.  Jake's only had one accident this week and has ventured out of the house in underwear several times.

2/28/08--  Jacob had a very busy day today.  First he ran errands with his Mommy; then he had a picnic lunch on the playgraound with Kate, Ethan, and Ignacio; then he saw a huge fire truck get a cat out of a tree.  He got to talk to the fire fighters and they let him sit in their truck.  Then they gave Jacob a fire fighter hat and a sitcker.  After all that, Jacob went home and played with Harry and Allison until dark.  To top everything off, he had three helpings of "sketti" for dinner.

2/25/08--  Jessica had to visit the OCC Financial Aid Department today, so Jacob went to school with Kris for the morning.  With his monkey backpack loaded with fruit snacks, Jake and his Daddy headed to school for office hours.  They played chess, go, and tick-tack-toe, as well as Jacob's favorite computer games on PBSkids.  Jacob wrote the letter "i" and the letter "x" and went potty in the big potty.  Later, the two walked to the University Center for lunch and had tacos.  Jessica came by at 12:30 to drop Ella off and Jacob, Daddy, and Ella rode the big school bus home.

2/24/08--  Jacob seems to finally be over his cold.  He's been doing really well with the potty and has not had many accidents.  He still has not asked to go to the potty, but he seems to hold it until it's "potty time."

2/18/08--  Today Jacob had no accidents!  There were no "on purposes" either, so we hestitate to call this a victory instead of luck.

2/17/08--  Jacob "read" his Curious George Opposites book to Kris at bedtime.

2/11/08--  Jacob has been sick for the past few days.  It's just a cold, but he's pretty under the weather and upset that he can't go outside.  He has been kind enough to share this disease with his mom and sister, though both are on the beginning end of it.

2/7/08--  Potty training is going a little better.  We're averaging one success and two accidents a day, though on Tuesday, Jacob had two successes and only one accident.  It's still pretty much luck.

2/3/08--  This is day three of Jacob's potty training.  It is not going well.  We're trying what is referred to as the "$45 Method":  Jake stays in his underwear all day and gets put on the potty every 20 minutes.  The $45 is supposed to cover the carpet cleaning bill.  We have three pairs of underwear so we end up hand washing them and throwing them in the dryer a couple of times a day.  So far, we have had two sort of successes:  Jacob has started to pee, we grab him and he finishes on the potty.  Ugh...
