1/26/08-- Jacob really likes yodeling. I'm not sure, but I think that this is evidence for genetic memory and he is merely chanelling his Germanic heritage. He was introduced to the art by his Bob the Builder DVD and has been yodeling ever since. 1/24/08-- Today Jacob went to the zoo with Jessica, Ella, Bridget, Kate, Hope, and Ethan. It turned out to be a bit more chilly in Santa Ana than it was in Irvine, so our visit was rushed. Everyone rode the train and saw the twin baby sheep that were born the night before. Unfortunately, there are no pictures because the batteries are dead on the camera. 1/19/08-- Today the family went to Crystal Cove State Beach. Jacob really enjoyed running around, throwing sand, and jumping in the tide pools. He saw several crabs and sea anemones and liked chasing the sea gulls after they had taken his Daddy's sandwich and Ella's Cheerios. Jacob saw boats and helicopters and Jessica saw a whale. (They also saw a dead bird and a dead seal, but Jake was not really aware of that fact.) After several hours of playing, they headed back up the cliffs where Kris treated everyone to shakes at the Shake Shack-- Jacob got part of Jessica's Oreo and part of Kris's peanut butter for some kind of super combo shake-- and they all headed back home for warm showers and clean clothes. 1/13/08-- Today Jacob and Co. went to his buddy, Ignacio's, fourth birthday party. Jacob played Pin the Tail on the Donkey for the first time, painted, and then ate cake and ice cream. 1/12/08-- Today the family went to Kate Bullio's first birthday party. Jacob liked singing "Happy Birthday" and playing with balloons. 1/10/08-- Today Jessica, Jacob, and Ella went to the Aquarium. We took our time and made a day of it. Jacob's favorite things were petting the bat rays, playing on the boat, and feeding the birds. Jacob also touched star fish, a sea hare, and some sea anemones. 1/5/08-- Today Jacob went to Ethan's second birthday party. They decorated sacks, ate pizza, and ran around in circles. When asked if he was a Colts fan (because of the sweatshirt he was wearing), Jacob replied, "No. I a monkey." 1/1/08-- Happy New Year! The family spent the day hanging out, playing in the dirt, and then capped off the day with a short trip to the beach and their favorite pizza place. Verano neighbors Daynah, Brandon, and Milah met us there for a fun family night out. 12/31/07-- Today the family took a walk up to campus and the University Center. Jacob enjoyed running around, sharing a sandwich with his Mommy, and getting a much-needed haircut. 12/29/07-- Grandma left today. Jacob and his family dropped her off at the airport around 10AM and said many goodbyes. We'll miss you, Grandma! 12/28/07-- Today Jacob went with his Mommy and Grandma to run errands. He got some new shoes which are black, navy, and grey with velcro closures. His old shoes are a size 8-- these are a size 10! 12/27/07 -- Jacob knows how to play "Brother John" on the piano. Well, he knows how to play the first three notes of it on the piano--over and over again. But he definitely recognizes the relationship between the song and the notes he's playing. When we asked him to play "Brother John" again, he knew just what we meant without us having to explain! --Kris 12/25/07-- Merry Christmas! Jacob started the festivities early... wayyyy early. He went directly downstairs at 4:30 AM and started talking to his Grandma. That woke up his parents, who woke up his sister, and the entire sleepy family started opening gifts. Jacob was a bit overwhelmed with the whole process and often stopped to play, refusing to open anything else. He loved all of his gifts, but Jessica and Kris ended up opening everything for him and just showing him what he had received-- one cannot bother a man on a mission! Some of his presents were: trucks, clothes, a piano, my first laptop, a light saber, binoculars, a hooded lion towel, and Mikey. For lunch he had roast and carrots and a cookie. Later, he ran off to go play with all the neighborhood kids who were trying out their new gear. 12/16/07-- After a couple of days of amazing crankiness, Jacob is pretty much back to normal. He somehow managed to chap his nose, though, so he'll still have several days before that will completely heal. 12/15/07-- This morning Jessica, Kris, Jacob, and Ella met up with Hope, Chad, and Ethan for a hot air balloon ride. Irvine has started building "The Great Park" on the site of the closed El Toro base. It will have botanic gardens, museums, park area, etc... and to kick it off, they offer free rides on "The Big Balloon," a tethered balloon that goes 400 feet in the air, hangs out for five minutes, then goes back down. Jacob thought the whole thing was really cool, but mostly enjoyed watching the drag racers over on the other parts of the old runway. 12/14/07-- Today Jessica took Jacob to a book party at the UCI bookstore. He made a magnet with a robot on it and a pop-up Christmas card. Afterwards, we went to get a Christmas tree. We got a bit of a late start and both Jacob and Ella fell asleep, so Kris and Jessica both toted sleeping babies to the tree lot. Once there, we ran into Bridget, Mark, and Kate who were getting their tree as well. Jacob and Ella woke up (confused) and we all went to Peet's for hot chocolate. Once home, both kiddos had fallen asleep again so Kris and Jessica tucked them into bed. 12/12/07-- Jacob is feeling better today. After yesterday's constant crying over medicine and denial "I not siiiiiiiiiiiiiick *cough cough* I not siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick!" He's feeling better and looking like his old self. He's not had a fever all day and he was able to keep all his food in his tummy where it belongs. 12/11/07-- Jacob is sick. He's had a fever on and off for the past few days, but today it reached 102.6. Jessica took Jacob (and his tiger shoes) to the doctor, waited an hour and 15 minutes, and found out that he has bronchitis, a throat infection, and he weighs 32 pounds. The doctor gave him an antibiotic and said to watch his fever. Once at home, Jacob asked for some milk, drank some, and then threw up all over his Mommy twice. It was great. After that it was bath time which made Jacob so tired that he just stayed in his bed upstairs until his Daddy came home at 7. 11/30/07-- Way back in October when stores started putting up Christmas decorations, Jacob noticed that there were huge letter Os (wreaths) and Ws (garlands) hanging everywhere. He loved to point them out and got very excited each time. Now that he's seen a Christmas tree and has noticed that the Os are made of Christmas tree parts, he's started calling them O Christmas trees. Kris taught him (sort of) the O Christmas Tree song so Jacob sings it every time he sees a wreath.
