11/28/07--  Today while Jacob was running in circles in the livingroom, he tripped and hit his face on the armoire.  He didn't bleed or break anything, but he has a red mark on his nose and cheek.  Once he had stopped crying, he said, "Let's try again" and immediately started running in circles.

11/26/07--  It is official:  Jacob has hazel eyes like Mommy, Uncle John, Grandma, and Grandad.  The first specks of brown showed up today (or were, perhaps, more noticible today because of Jacob's dark green shirt).

11/24/07-- Today Jacob had his Christmas pictures made.  He did a great job smiling and would do whatever the photographer asked him to do.  Later, Jake played on the playground with Ella.  It was really hot today so Jacob got his first push-up ice cream... which he didn't know how to eat and so therefore refused to eat.  Later in the day Jacob got a box in the mail.  It was tiger shoes from Gram!!!  Just what every zookeeper needs...  He wore them to show his friends and was the coolest kid on the block.

11/22/07--  Today the family celebrated Thanksgiving with Hope, Chad, and Ethan.  A couple of other families joined in and we all had a delicious pot luck.  Jacob had a lot of fun playing with Ethan, Ignacio, Florencia, and Camryn and was really happy when he got to eat some pumpkin ice cream pie.

11/20/07-- Jacob woke up this morning requesting the zoo, so off to the zoo we went. Jacob enjoyed playing on the playground, riding the train, and seeing the monkeys. At the scale in the barn, Jacob weighed 32 pounds.  After three hours, however, he announced that it was time to go home to get "milk and chicken."

11/15/07--  It's amazing!  Jacob is taking a nap!!!  And so is Ella!!!  AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!  And what's Mommy doing? Laundry and homepage.  Woo hoo.  Other interesting stuff:  Jake can put his sandals on by himself.  Jacob prefers to sleep with his head by the footboard of his bed (as did his Mommy!).  Jacob knows his right from his left most of the time.  We're working on telling time, though if it's not right on the hour when he's asked, "What time is it?" Jacob is most likely to answer, "Twenty dollars."  Jacob is really into robots and rocketships right now and likes for his Daddy to pick him up so he can be an airplane (or helicopter or rocketship).

11/8/07--  Jacob is sick!  Last night while Jessica was reading him bedtime stories, he leaned over and barfed all over the place.  He seemed to feel fine and was happy to take a shower, so we let him fall asleep on the couch, carried him to his room, and called it a night.  Jacob woke up again at 3AM crying and asking for milk, so we gave him a cup of milk and let him fall asleep in our bed.  Kris moved him back to his own bed where he slept soundly... until 6AM when he threw up his milk all over the place.  He was not so happy about being awake and was even less happy about having to wash his hair.  He spent the rest of the day on the couch, took a nap, broke his fever, and then recovered completely.

11/6/07--  Jacob is doing very well.  He loves to play trains and blocks and puzzles and has gotten really good at asking for things that he wants.  He's a little too good sometimes and will just go into the kitchen and bring his parents a jar of peanut butter and a spoon.  His current favorite books are:  Why is Blue Dog Blue?, HUG, Firetruck, and Thomas the Train.  He likes to watch Curious George, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Super Why in the mornings and sometimes Here Come the ABCs in the afternoons.  He can say his ABCs, though LMNOP turns into just LOP (which is funny since his favorite song on the Here Come the ABCs is "LMNO").  He can count to 30, if you count twenty-ten as a number.  He likes to sing "Are You Sleeping" but says "Other John" instead.  He also sings, "Twinkle Twinkle," "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider,"and "Happy Birthday."  Jacob's current favorite food is "magaroni cheese," though he isn't picky and will eat just about anything.  His new hobby is making animals with his hands.  He makes a snail, an eagle, a bird, and an anteater.  Snail, eagle, and bird are all his, but anteater is one Jessica taught him to support UCI.  Rip 'em Eaters!!!

10/31/07--  Jacob is a Zoo Keeper.  Today Jacob went Trick-or-Treating with a few of his friends at the Senior Center.  It turned out to be really crowded, but the candy made it all worthwhile.  Later Kris took Jake and Ella to the University Center to trick-or-treat at the shops there.  Once Jessica got home, the family went with friends to University Hills (where all the professors live) and went trick-or-treating again.  Jacob and Ethan were about the same pace, so they ended up doing everything together while the other kids went on ahead.

10/24/07-- Took Jake to breakfast this morning. Gave him a little French toast, a little bit of hashbrowns, a bit of ketchup, and a tiny puddle of maple syrup. After trying each of these foods with each of these dips, (like his daddy he loves the dip), he finally settled on a favorite: French toast plus ketchup. --Kris

10/16/07--  Today Jacob ran into the livingroom yelling, "Come here, Mommy! Come here see bellybutton!"  Confused, Jessica was led outside where Jacob pointed to a tree.  "See, Mommy?  Tree has bellybutton!"  Jacob had noticed a concave knot in the tree about two feet off the ground.

10/15/07--  Jacob surprised his mommy today by riding a bicycle over to the car to greet her.  He had found a neighbor's small bike (with training wheels, of course) and was riding along the sidewalk as though he'd been riding for years.

10/14/07--  Today the family went to Tanaka Farms to pick out a pumpkin and to take Halloween pictures.  Jake really liked seeing the tractors and all the pumpkins.  He chose a little pumpkin of his very own and painted it.  Then his daddy took him to the petting zoo where he was accosted by tiny goats.  Later, his mommy took him to the store to buy cheap pumpkins and Jacob got to pick out a little one for Ella.

10/13/07--  Today was the Verano Place Welcome Picnic.  Jacob, Jessica, and Ella walked over with their neighbors, Daynah and Milah.  Jake and Milah really liked jumping in the bounce house.  They both got their faces painted and had turkey sandwiches for lunch.  Later, Jacob ran around with his buddies Harry, Miles, and Trudy.

10/6/07--  Jacob likes to pretend that bananas are phones and that he is talking to a monkey.  He plays pretend a lot, mostly doctor, but is known to take phone calls from his buddy, Elmo, on occasion.

10/5/07--  The family went to the park today.  Jacob really liked the slide and the swings.  He got to see the ducks, but no one remembered to bring any food.  Later he got cheese ravioli and a giant cookie.

10/4/07--  Jacob likes naming all the different types of vehicles that he sees.  He was especially happy to see the tow truck come and unlock the car for his mommy.  He now knows:  tow truck, mixer truck, garbage truck, tractor, fire truck, mail truck, dump truck, bus, school bus, police car, big truck, and little truck (aka golf carts).  Driving in the car with Jacob is like repeating this list over and over with enthusiasm.  Other thrills of the day were riding the carosel and playing in the fountain.  He also picked out a new toothbrush for himself and one for Ella as well.
