6/9/07--  Much to his parents' delight, Jake slept in this morning.  This gave everyone time to get ready for Uncle Kilf and Aunt Jordan's wedding tonight.  Jake's Daddy was dropped off at the church for pictures so everyone else went to lunch/dinner at the Steak n' Shake.  Once back at the church, Jake, Jonas, Ella, and Kaemon were taken to the nursery to play.  Jacob went around pointing out letters and numbers and wowed everyone with his spelling and counting abilities.  Next stop, reading!  After a whirlwind wedding ceremony, the family went to the reception.  Jake picked out his own cupcake (vanilla is his favorite) and danced himself silly.

6/8/07--  Three hours after his parents went to bed, Jacob woke up.  He and his Mommy went downstairs to get some milk and a banana.  Once upstairs, Jake got a much needed bath and began to be a lot less cranky.  On the way to meet Mommy-O and Daddy-O for lunch, Jacob fell asleep in the car and napped for about 45 minutes.  After that, the entire Rhodes family went out to eat for lunch.  Jacob had fun playing with Jonas and he really liked saying "Hi Mommy-O" and "Hi Daddy-O."  After lunch everyone headed over to the church for the rehearsal.  Jake and Jonas ran around all over the place while everyone else figured out where to stand.  Afterwards, everyone drove to the rehearsal dinner for pizza and ice cream.  Jake and Jonas played with the toys in the nursery for a long time.  At the last minute, Jacob's parents decided to join "the youngsters" at the bowling alley.  Jake "helped" his parents bowl and his Daddy helped him play a car racing game.

6/7/07-- Off to Indiana!  Jacob gets to ride a bus to the airport and takes an airplane all the way to Indianapolis.  His Mommy gets "leg duty" the entire flight to ensure that the gentleman sitting in front of Jacob doesn't get kicked for four hours.  Jake also had an accident and refused to put his pants back on, so he ended up wrapped in Ella's blanket.  The exact moment the plane touched down, Jacob fell asleep in his carseat and had to be carried the rest of the way.  Once in Indianapolis, the family had to rent a car and drive an hour and a half to Muncie-- they checked into the hotel at 2:30 AM-- and Jake got his own bed.

6/4/07--  Jacob and his Mommy went on a date to see the UCI Percussion Ensemble.  It was way past both of their bedtimes, but neither of them caused a scene.  Jacob got a little wiggly after the third song, but after a breath of fresh air (and a fresh diaper) he was ready for one more tune.  After that, the pair left and headed straight to bed.

6/1/07--  Jacob's two year molars are fimally coming in!  He's been waking up crying for the past four nights and suddenly the answer is clear... no wonder he's been so cranky!

5/31/07--  Jacob has yet again learned by osmosis.  The first miracle of the day was when he noticed that the reflection in his spoon was upside down and he went around the room cracking up at everything all topsy-turvy.  The second miracle of the day was when we went to the ice cream shop and he pointed to the trash can and said, "P - U - S - H ... Push!"  Jessica did not teach him that, though Kris says that he's shown that to Jacob before but it's been a couple of months.  He's such a smart kid...!

5/27/07--  Today the family went with Maroua, Ryan, and Rami to Boomer's to play miniature golf.  The boys had fun scooting the ball along the course and, amazingly, didn't hit each other with the clubs.  Jake perfected his technique by setting the ball down at the start, picking it up, running to the hole, and dropping it in.  He was able to attain several "holes in one" in this manner.  Later Jake played some skeeball, rode a merry-go-round, and played the ball drop game.  He was able to get three bouncy balls with his ticket winnings.  We all had a great time.

5/24/07--  This morning Jake, Jessica, and Ella went with Hope and Ethan to Fashion Island to walk around and eat lunch.  The boys really enjoyed the pet store and even got to pet some of the puppies.  Once home, however, Jake scared the bejeezus out of Jessica by running away.  They had gotten out of the car and were headed for the door when Jake veered right and took off on his tricycle.  Jessica was carrying Ella, the diaper bag, and a drink and could not catch up with the speedy toddler nor could she just drop everything and run (Ella is not a patient baby, nor would she like to hang out under a tree to wait for her wandering brother to return).  Jake sped down the curvy walkway and disappeared, leaving the trike behind.  Jessica enlisted the help of Brooke and John (parents of Miles and Harry) and they all serched for Jacob for about five minutes.  Finally, John found Jake in the next apartment group over, playing with some toys outside.  Was Jacob scared?  Not one bit!  His mother, of course, was completely frazzled and crying, so FYI no lectures are required.

5/15/07--  Today Jake and his friends went to the local fire station for a tour.  The saw the fire truck, the fire engine (yes, there is a difference), and the hazmat truck.  This unit is only a couple of blocks from our house and specializes in dealing with hazardous materials.  The fire fighters were all very nice and let the kids touch everything and even climb up into the fire truck.  Everyone had tons of fun.  Other Jake news:  Jacob is counting everything!  He loves to count his toes, Ella's toes, the number of things on the pages of his books... everything!  He surprised Kris and Jessica by being able to count to 15--they only taught him 1 to 10!!!  He's reading a few letters, but just mostly the ones that are in the words "Jacob" and "Ella."  He was able to read the "E4" on the front of the fire engine.

5/11/07--  Jocob wrote his first song today.  He played his great-grandfather's bass ukelele and sang, "Mommyyyyyy....mommy.....mommyyyyyyy......mommy mommy!"  He then made his I-refuse-to-smile face when he received a hearty applause.

5/8/07--  Jacob should sleep pretty well tonight!  This morning he played Sesame Street games on the computer until lunch time.  Then he played in the mud.  Then he painted.  Then he went to Ethan's house to play in the water.  Then he saw Rami on the playground and played with him for a long time.  Then he headed home to play with his Daddy.

5/7/07--  After Jessica's doctor appointment, the family went to eat pizza for lunch and bask at the beach.  Jake had a great time playing in the sand and splashing in the waves.  He kept saying, "Big wave!" every time the water would come rushing over his feet.  Jacob wanted to stay longer, but three hours was quite enough.

5/3/07--  The pictures dated 4/27 are from Maroua's camera.  She and Ryan took care of Jacob when Jessica was sick.  Rami and Jacob had a great time as usual!

4/29/07--  Our card reader for our computer has mysteriously stopped working (aka Jacob broke it) so it will be a while before new pictures are up.  Jessica has been sick this week anyway so all the pictures are of Jacob running around with no pants in a living room carpeted with toys.  Jake has been learning more and more.  He now says the phrase "This is a ____" and goes around the house pointing to things and saying, "This is a duck.  This is a doggy."  He also made a pretty complicated sentence yesterday.  He said, "Please help me Daddy." when he was having trouble with one of his Sesame Street games.  He's really learned a lot from that website!  It has all seemed to click this week and instead of ramdomly clicking everything he's actually choosing and choosing correctly.  He can match letters, he can follow the verbal commands, and he can make choices as to what games he wants to play.  His favorites are the music matching games (he has to identify what instrument/animal/thing made a sound) and the coloring (he seems to prefer to color everything turquoise).  He still has a cough, but he hasn't woken up crying in several days.

4/23/07--  It's picture day!  Everyone went to JCPenney's to get pictures with Ella.  Mommy-O and Daddy-O left soon afterwards to go to the airport and head back to Texas.

4/22/07--  Another rough night last night, but Jessica had Kris's mom to help out.  This time it was Ella who was inconsolable.  She'd slept all day, as usual, but when it came to be bed time, she became fussy.  Jessica nursed her and nursed her but she wouldn't go to sleep.  Jessica tried patting and rocking and baby massage-- no good.  Everything Jessica did to make Ella stop crying just seemed to make things worse so she went downstairs to Mommy-O and pleaded for help.  Mommy-O took over and Jessica was able to get some sleep.  Ella still fussed for another two hours and slept fitfully after, but was fine the next day.

Kris came home from Boulder and the family went out to lunch at El Torito.  Once home, everyone settled in to watch a movie and relax for the rest of the day.

4/21/07--  Mommy-O and Daddy-O are here!  Jacob went on a shopping spree today that ended in a carosel ride and a ride on a train.  He had a great time and went right to bed in his new pajamas.

4/20/07--  On Friday, Kris went to Colorado to present a paper at a conference.   Jessica had both kids all day and all night until Kris's parents came the next morning.  The day went fine but that night Jacob woke up coughing and started to sry.  He then got into bed with Jessica and Ella and went back to sleep.  A few hours later at 3:30AM he woke up crying again and wanted his daddy and kept insisting that it was morning.  This woke up Ella so then both kiddoes were crying.  Then Jessica took Jacob to his bed, changed his diaper, and tucked him in (Ella is still crying).  Jessica goes back to bed to take care of Ella and Jake gets out of bed and heads downstairs.  Jessica grabs Ella (still crying) and goes downstairs to get Jacob.  Jake is at the back door yelling things like "Daddy!" and "Morning!" and "Outside!"  Jessica tries to explain that Daddy went bye bye and no, it's not morning it's night time and he can't go outside because it's dark.  Jacob responds by trying to pull down the blinds and is then given a "time-out."  Aftter the time-out, Jessica gives Jacob some milk and he says that he wants to go night night on the couch.  Jessica lays Jacob down, gives him a pillow and a blanket, and waits for Jacob to fall asleep.  Meanwhile, she is able to feed Ella so that she will go back to sleep and so all three tired, crying people are sleeping quietly on the couch.  At 6AM Jessica takes Jacob up to his room and puts him to bed.  She and Ella then go back to bed as well until 8AM when Mommy-O and Daddy-O arrive.
