4/19/07--  Jacob has had a pretty good day today... until he got stung by a bee.  No worries, though.  Some cold water and a juice fixed everything pretty quickly.

4/17/07--  Jacob has been sick for over a month.  The first cold he shared with Jessica and they both went through phases of coughing and runny noses.  The second cold he's managed to keep to himself so far.  He has a runny nose and he coughs at night.  He's been having a hard time sleeping lately because of the cough and he wakes up crying.  A couple of days ago he coughed so much that he threw up breakfast lunch and dinner all over the living room floor.  It was great.  : /

4/14/07--  Jacob has been learning a ton.  He's working on counting (wan, two, free, eight, eight, eight, eight, eight, non, hen!), and spelling (o i o i ee o b -- JACOB!), and colors (everything is ed, ack, or boo).  Kris was teaching him shapes today and he was catching on pretty well.  He figured out how to use the mouse today, so that will make life easier for everyone.  Soon he'll be able to play Elmo games by himself.  He's also been learning the fine art of the "time out."  Toddlerhood has, on occasion, risen its ugly head lately, so Jake's mommy and daddy had to make a time out place for him.

4/8/07--  Several of our friends decided to host an egg hunt at the playground today.  Each child brought 12 eggs so that each child could find 12 eggs, unlike at the Verano egg hunt where the kids could only have three.  Everyone had a great time-- the parents were taking tons of pictures and the kids were running around like crazy.  We stayed around for a while afterwards while Jake and Rami played.

4/7/07--  Today was the Verano Egg Hunt.  Jake saw all of his friends, hunted for eggs, and had his face painted.  The eggs had prize ribbons instead of candy so Jacob won a teddy bear and Rami won a kite.  The boys spent the rest of the afternoon running around, dragging the kite behind them.

4/1/07--  Jacob now likes Ella again... as long as she doesn't interfere with his going outside.  He always calls her "Baby Ella" and gives her hugs and kisses.

3/30/07--  Jacob is no longer amused.  He has not been able to go outside as much as he's used to and he's very bored being corralled in the living room.  He's been pulling on Ella's blanket saying, "Morning!" (aka Get Up!), pinching her toes, and pulling her hair.  We assume that he thinks that if Ella is awake then he can go outside.  Jessica will probably attempt taking some walks in the next few days, so Jake will be able to get out a little more then.

3/28/07--  Jacob has been doing pretty well adjusting to his new baby sister.  He likes to look at her and he always asks if he can give her a hug.  He gets upset if she cries and says, "Oh no, baby!"  He thinks its funny when she gets a diaper change.  He's been having a hard time at night, however, and cries for his mommy.  Mommy's lap has been pretty full lately so he can't be a cuddly and cuddled as he's used to.

3/22/07--  This morning at 4:30 Jacob woke up wanting to go to the potty.  Jessica took him in there thinking that he just wanted an M&M, but as soon as he sat down he used the potty as though he's been doing this all along.  Then he was wide awake and demanding a bath, so from 5 to 5:45 he got the longest bath of his life so that his mommy didn't have to move much.  Then the little guy got hungry so Jessica woke up Grandma Ethel and said, "Your turn" and Jake ate breakfast while Jessica went back to bed.

3/19/07--  After the doctor's appointment and after lunch, the family headed to the Santa Ana Zoo.  On the way to the car, Jacob tried to pick up a bee and received his first bee sting.  We are relieved to report that he has no allergies or fever and just a little swelling.  At the zoo Jake saw all of the animals and played on the playground and just generally had a great time.

3/19/07--  Today Jacob went to the doctor for his two year check up.  He is 34 and 3/4 inches tall (60th percentile), he weighs 28.5 pounds (50th percentile), and his head is 19 1/4 inches around (55th percentile).  He got a finger poke and a shot and didn't even cry.  Since he was such a good boy the nurse gave him two dinosaur stickers.

3/18/07--  Jacob is officially two!!!  This morning we went to JCPenney's and took some really cute birthday pictures.  On the way home we stopped by Tanaka Farms and picked up some strawberries.  The rest of the afternoon Jacob colored, snacked on strawberries, and played with Grandma.

3/17/07--  Today was Jacob's second birthday party.  The theme was dinosaurs since, being St. Patrick's Day, we needed something green.  We had pizza and fruit and veggies and, of course, a dino cake that Jake's mom and grandma made.  All of the little kiddos had fun eating and playing.  Jacob received a lot of cool books and toys and drawing supplies and the hits of the party were the "walking talking dino" given by his Great-Gram.

3/13/07--  Jessica took Jacob to get a haircut today.  There was a 30 minute wait so the pair went to Strickland's and split an ice cream sundae-- Jacob's first.  Then they went back to wait and Jacob played with the blocks until it was his turn.  He did wonderfully and got a sucker at the end.  He's quite the handsome young man...

3/9/07--  Jacob has had a little cold this week, but he hasn't let it slow him down one bit.  He has really enjoyed playing with the balloons from Jessica's shower on Tuesday, but the cats are not so pleased.

3/3/07--  Today the family went to Choo Choo at the Zoo.  Jacob saw lots of model trains, played on the playground, and watched the animals.  Jacob really liked the elephant and wanted badly to go for a ride.  He liked the monkeys, as well, but most of them were "night night" so they were a little boring.  Jake liked petting the farm animals and even fed the sheep.  The Santa Ana High School Marching Band performed and Jacob loved it.  He was most interested in the drums (just like dear old mom!) and he clapped to the beat when they played.  One of the exhibits had a measuring stick and a scale, and if we measured correctly, Jacob weighs 28 pounds and is 2 feet 11 inches.  Kris and Jessica plead the 5th.

2/28/07--  Once Kris got home from school, he took Jacob to the bookstore so Jessica could take a nap.  On the way there, Jacob fell asleep in the car and could not be persuaded to wake up so Kris just carried him in and browsed the aisles with a sleeping toddler.  After a while, Jacob was getting pretty heavy so Kris grabbed a book and sat down in a wingback chair to read.  This is the point where Kris fell asleep as well and he and Jacob took a long nap in the Barnes and Noble together.

2/25/07--  Jacob went pee in his potty!  Well, mostly he went pee on the floor, but he was sitting on the potty at the time.

2/22/07--  We've been doing a lot of running around lately, so the website has been a little lax.  Jacob continues to learn new words almost daily (hippo, moon, star, bath, owie, hot, candy, Kate, Hope, downstairs, morning, out, in, butterfly, water, hug, rainbow, thank you, hop hop...) and is using them in pairs more often (Daddy candy, night night Momo, No, Mommy, milk thank you...).  He's been coloring a lot lately and likes to pretend that he can read.  his favorite crayon is black.  Jake thinks "thank you" means exchange and says it even when he's handing something over to you.  He now asks for hugs and gives a kiss as a bonus.  He doesn't take naps anymore, but he goes to bed in no time at all and sleeps all night.  He sometimes has "toddler moments" but not vey often.  When he does get upset, he doesn't get mad, just sad, and can be immediately brought back to cute and happy if given a bubble bath.  Jacob likes to put his monkeys to bed by putting them on top of a pillow and tucking them in.  He has yet to potty in the toilet, but he'll sit there and can tell you where poo poo and pee pee come from.  He loves Elmo and wants to either play games on SesameStreet.com or watch Elmo's Potty Time several times a day (that's if he's stuck indoors, if he's outside, he just wants to ride his car or walk around or go visit Kate.)  Jacob still loves to read.  His favorite books right now are "Pat the Bunny," aka "hop hop," "Hug," aka "ooh ooh," and "Goodnight Moon," aka "nigh night hop hop."  (Hop hop means bunny and "ooh ooh" means monkey.)  His favorite car books are "Can You Play Like a Kitten?" and "Peek A Boo Alaska."  Jake likes brushing his teeth.  He starts out by himself then his mommy or daddy take over and tell him. "Ok, now say 'Ahhh.'  Now say 'Eeee'"  So he calls it "Ahhh Eeee."  He's very good at helping with the laundry.  He can put clothes in the washer and dryer, pull the lint of the screen, and put the quarters in.  He really likes to see the clothes spin in the dryer, so his parents always try to get a lower dryer so that Jake can see.  Jacob is really shy when he first meets a person so when someone in a store says hi to him, he either throws himself to the ground or blows a raspberry at them-- sometimes both.

2/16/07--  After attending his mom's doctor's appointment, Jacob and family went to eat some pizza and play at the beach.  He and his daddy played on the playground for a while and then he and his mommy walked in the sand.  Even though the water is too cold for words, Jake still likes to be hit by the waves.
