The Birth Story
On November 6, 2009 at around 3 pm the nurses came into my room in antepartum and told me that they were moving me to labor and delivery because I was already contracting on my own.
At 7:35 my contractions had slowed down so they inserted cervadil. At that time I asked for some ambien to help me sleep for the night(not sure when I got it though). I slept till about 2 am on November 7, when I woke up ecause the contractions were a little too much. At that time I requested my epidural however they didn't get it for me until 4am. They poked me three times to get the epidural in right...not comfortable when you are having some severe contractions. ;)
I guess I fell asleep after that because I dont remember much until about 12pm when they checked me and broke my water. I was 6 cm at the time. Right after they broke my water it felt as if he was right there and I was sitting on his head. I kept telling the nurse it felt like it was time but when they checked me I was only a 7. Between that time and the time of delivery felt sooo long but was only an hour. Jakeb was ready to come out whether my body was or not. My body was trying to push him out at 7 cm. I kept teling the nurse I couldn't breate the way she wanted me to becuase it hurt too badly for me to be able to concentrate. At one point they checked me and I was 9.5 cm so they told me to push and see if they could move the extra .5cm for me to deliver and it worked. So while the dr was getting ready to deliver me I pushed a couple of times becuase it felt better to push then to just breathe through it. By the time they got me in stirups and ready to push I only pushed twice before he came out. I think I pushed a total of 4 times. Labor was about 17 hours long total. Hard labor was only about an hour.
Jakeb Donovan was born at 1:06pm on November 7,2009. He was 6 pounds 6 ounces, 19.5 inches long, and his head measured 14.25(not sure if this is inches or cm). His one minute APGAR was 8 his five minute was 9. He passed all of his tests and was perfectly healthy despite the fact that I was worried about him being 3 weeks early and the possibility of his lungs not being developed completely. He stayed with me the entire stay.
I am completely and totally inlove with this little guy!!! He and I are not so good at the breastfeeding thing but we are not going to give up on it either.

Jakeb is doing fine. I saw Dr Wong today. He said that there are too many little things wrong to let me go to 38 weeks so we will be induced on Friday the 6th. Jakeb will probably be born on the following Saturday. I am nervous, excited, worried, bored...among other things. I am feeling major need to get things done, but since I am on bed rest in the hospital I can't so Jake is doing chores at home while I lay in bed at the hospital.

Went in to triage for a headache and weird pains in my stomach that had me worried. When I got there they did my blood pressure and it turned out to be really high for me. They admitted me and did a blood draw as well as a Biophysical profile for Jakeb. Jakeb at first didnt pass so they did another one after 24 hours and he did great. They also had me do a 24 hour urine sample and found I was spilling protein over into my urine and that my blood samples came back with some things that were not so great. I have mild pre eclampsia and am staying in the hospital another night. Tomorrow I will find out what Dr. wong says. They may keep me here till I deliver the baby.

Today we went to my NST. Jakebs heart rate was wonderful. However, I began having contractions that were very painful. I asked if I could go to the restroom and that helped get rid of the pain, but the contractions continued. They called the on call doctor and she told us to go ahead and go to triage so they could stop them. I was given two shots of terabutaline. It made me feel really bad...plus the fact that I hadn't eatten in 8 hours I was feeling really really horrible. They finally let me go after 3 hours becuase the contractions slowed down.

Last week I had another u/s and visit with Dr. Barford. Dr. Barford got me a little upset because of two reasons. One he said that my fasting blood sugars were not looking good and if they stayed high he would want me on insulinm and the second reason was becuase he said that if Baby Jakeb gets too much bigger instead of doing an induction he would want to do a c-section. That is the last thing I want. I only want a c-section if something happens and little mans heartbeat drops or he starts showing signs of disress.
Well, today I had an appt with Dr. Wong. He doesn't seem at all worried about my blood sugars and said he isn't going to worry about them as long as they dont go over 105(fasting). And they said that the only way they would c-section me is if the baby is measuring huge. Right now he is measuring at about 5 pounds. Hopefully in the next month he wont gain more then 2 pounds and we will be fine:).
I also got my induction date today. I will go in on the 14th of November at 4:30pm and they will put in the cervadil then the following morning they will start the pitocin. We are all so very excited know that it is soon that we will meet our darling little man!

Today I had an NST, an u/s, and a visit with Dr. Barford-the high risk doc. My NST went great...His little heartbeat was strong and he didn't move too much. The U/S was wonderful as well. He was "posing" for the tech so the tech did some picutres in 3d and Jakeb has gotten so chubby. He is weighing in around 4 pounds and 14 ounces! ALmost five pounds and he still has a month left till its time for him to come out! Dr. Barford is worried about my fasting blood sugar levels because they consistantly stay over 100 and they need to be under 100. He said that if they don't go down he will probably put me on insulin, which is what I was hoping to avoid. He also said if Jakeb gets too much bigger he is going to suggest a c-section instead of an induction. We also got a preliminary date for the induction. I suggested the 16th of November and he said that sounds perfect and told me to talk to Dr. Wong about it next week. I am getting really excited about seeing little Jakeb's sweet face and being able to hold and kiss him! Please pray for my blod sugars to drop and that I will be able to just be induced and not have to worry about a c-section.
