It has become a tradition in our family to participate in Family Weekend at camp Rio Vista. The first year Nathan and Dan attended. The next year I took Nathan. This year the whole family attended. Nathan participated in all the usual activities--- riflery, archery, ropes course, swimming, the Butt Buster (the ginormous rope swing over the Guadalupe), bombardment (dodge ball on steroids), and Warrior Ball (I don't even know how to describe that one). I had been a little worried about what Julia would do, but she had a great time. She loved visiting the chicken coop, petting the dog, climbing rocks, and eating s'mores. She was fascinated by the fact that she was sleeping in a cabin...without air-conditioning and with a bathroom located in a separate building! We all enjoyed Ms. Becky's great camp cooking. Nathan informed me that she adds a special ingredient to the food to help the kids sleep at camp!
We always have a good time at Family Weekend. Nathan leaves fired up and ready for camp. I get to ask questions about how it all works and ease my anxieties about sending my baby off for two weeks. And most importantly, we get to make connections with the staff in a more intimate setting. Now when Nathan arrives at camp in 6 weeks, he has already met a few counselors and is on a first name basis with the folks who are running the show.
29 days until camp...
What a spring break! Our weather was perfect, and we spent every day outside. Two other friends from the cul-de-sac were in town all week, and the posse (as I like to call them) was inseperable. We went to the pool every day, several neighborhood parks, the round rock/brushy creek, the sno-cone place, and various lunch destinati...
A Do-Over Birthday Party for Julia! Julia kept asking us when we were going to Pump It Up for her birthday party. So when she started to feel better, Dan and I decided to have a do-over. I am so grateful to all the moms and dads who brought their kids back for a second time. Almost everyone was able to join us (even tho...
Julia turned five on Friday! I know it is cliche, but so true... they grow up so fast. Julia is really thriving both at school and socially. We have learned that she will be placed in a mainstream kindergarten classroom for next year. She will be pulled out for some services, but the majority of her day will be spent among...
Julia and I spent last weekend at the farm with the Peruvian cousins. They have officially returned to the United States and are soon off to St. Louis to start seminary. Although Missouri is still pretty far away, it is a lot closer than Casa de Aguila! Julia and Eli are pretty close in age, so they had a great time pla...
Dan ran the Austin Half Marathon today! I would like to tell you that the kids and I were there to cheer him on... but reality had other plans. I couldn't bring myself to pack the kids up at 5am, drive downtown, and stand in the 40 degree weather to see Daddy run by amongst a crowd of 20,000. So he headed out on his own early...
Love to all, Aunt Leah -Leah Chitty Walton Apr 30 2012 What a wonderful week making 'Memories of Childhood'; and a wonderful Mom to document them forever. Love to all, Aunt Leah -Emma Leah Chitty Walton Mar 19 2012 It appears that the belated 5th Birthday was quite a success... Loved seeing her beaming little face... Love to all, Aunt Leah -Leah Chitty Walton Mar 11 2012 Oh, that is too bad. There isn't much you can do about it, though. We miss you guys! I hope everything else is good. -Monica Mar 06 2012 I understand about canceled parties due to the birthday person being sick. I have frozen a few cakes over the years and thawed them out a week or so later for a make-over B-Day... Somehow, it all worked out anyway... Julia, I hope you are feeling much better, you were all smiles on your Big 5 Day anyway... Love to all, Aunt Leah - Mar 03 2012
