11/19/07 - Well, it looks like Avery is cutting another tooth.  She has so many that look like they are going to bust through any day, so I'm not sure which one will be next.  I'm starting to catch on to her "teething symptoms": red, blistered diaper rash, runny nose & pink cheeks.  She cried for quite a while last night.  She was so tired, but wanted nothing to do with going to bed.  The only thing that helped her to stop crying was to tear up a magazine for 2 hours!

Some of Avery's newest tricks are:

-Moving her head back and forth like a chicken while making a "bawk, bawk, bawk" sound.  This cracks me up to the point of tears!

-Smacking her lips while she eats.

11/14/07:  Avery said "ma ma" today - twice!  Yay - I'm finally in the loop!

For the last two days, Avery has not wanted to eat her lunch for me, which consists of a stage 2 vegetable and meat.  When I get the spoon near her mouth, she pinches her lips together and makes a face as if she just ate something terrible.  I think my little sunshine has figured out she can eat big girl food now and wants to do away with the liquified stuff (can't hardly blame her).  She LOVES Cheerios, Kix and puffs and would eat them all day long for every meal if I would let her.

Avery is still not even attempting to crawl.  She doesn't even get up on all 4's.  I guess I should be happy she's not so mobile, but I anxiously await all of her little milestones.  It's so sad to see her have to roll everywhere she wants to go.

11/11/07 - Avery has quite the social life at almost 8 month old!  On Saturday, we went to our friends house for their twins' first birthday party.  She was such a good girl and enjoyed playing with her friends, as well as the licks of pink frosting off of daddy's finger.

Tonight we went to another birthday party for our friend's two kids.  Their daughter comes to me for preschool/daycare 3 days a week.  The party was held at Tumbleweed park and Avery, once again, had a blast.  Tonight was her first time on a swing and she LOVED it!  I think we'll have to get her one of those little swings that you can attatch to your patio for Christmas.  Avery loved playing with all of the baby dolls and accessories that the birthday girl received.  She is so content sitting around a sea of toys reaching, grabbing and chewing on anything and everything she can get her little hands on!  We really are so blessed to have such a mild tempered, extremely happy, and healthy child!!!!  (Kinda makes me want to have 3 or 4 more, but everyone tells me the 2nd, and 3rd, etc. are never as easy as the first.)  Hmmmm . . . .

11/8/07 (Thursday)- Avery got another tooth today for a total of 3 choppers!  I thought for sure she'd get her lower bicuspids or her top front teeth, but she ended up getting her upper left lateral incisor.  Avery's Grandma "Cub" works in a dental office and keeps her on track with her new teeth.  (Hey, I still remember a few things from working at the dental office long ago!)

I've been giving Avery some different kinds of table food to experiment with since she really seems to enjoy chewing on her puffs.  This week she ate green beans, cucumbers, cheese, Cheerios, and pears.  I made scrambled eggs one night for dinner and was going to give her some of those, but happened to read a chapter in my "What to Expect the First Year" book and remembered they can cause an allergy.  That's the last thing we need after getting her off of that "expensive formula"!

11/6/07:  A few weeks back, my mom and I were shopping at Target, scoping out the dollar bins.  My mom found the cutest "pilgrim" hat and had Avery wear it throughout the store.  We were in the back of the store by the Halloween stuff when this mother and her two kids passed us.  The mom said "Oh (son's name), look at that cute baby."  Her son, who was probably 6 or 7 years old replied "That's not a baby - it's a pilgrim!"  It was so cute!!  I posted a picture of Avery in her pilgrim hat.  : )

10/28/07 - Avery is still saying "da da", however, when we ask her to say it for someone, she won't!

Now that she is used to having a couple of teeth, she is enjoying her puffs for snacks and even had scrambled eggs and pancakes for breakfast today!

Avery is not quite crawling yet.  She seems to enjoy rolling everywhere she wants to go.  She is doing such a great job at sitting up, and loves when we dump out her toy box so she can play.  She'll sit there for an hour and entertain herself, if we let her.

Our little sunshine is still eating, growing and sleeping well.  She's on a pretty great schedule that coincides with my daycare schedule.  She takes a bottle around 8:00 p.m. and is down for the night.  She usually wakes up around 7:00 a.m. and will take two 2-hour naps during the day.  I think back to how determined I was to get her on that Baby Wise plan, and how frustrated we were with it.  I guess she decided she'd put herself on a pretty nice schedule for mommy and daddy when she was good and ready!

10/26/07 - Avery may have said her first word this week (10/24).  I'm a little frustrated by this because I sit here all day long saying "ma ma ma ma" to Avery to try and teach her what I hoped would be her first word, but NOOOOO . . . . Steve comes home and says "da da" a couple of times to her and what does she repeat back??? "DA DA"!  She's been saying it since Wednesday night!  Steve tells me that I have to write this in her baby book, since it's her first word.  I'm not so sure about this . . . . !

10/15/07:  Avery finally sat up without help today!  Yippeee!  She sat up on the floor and played with her toys for about 8 minutes this morning.  She would start to fall back, and you could see her little muscles just tighten to pull herself  back up.   She also fed herself some Gerber puffs this morning.  Two milestones in one day . . . wow!

10/14/07:  Avery and I went to Schnepf Farms today with my friend Hannah and her two boys.  Her youngest is 2 months old and is Avery's "friend".  : )  We had such a good time and Avery was just so sweet and happy all day long.  I posted some pictures from today.

10-7-07:  Today Steve, Avery & I walked in the City of Hope breast cancer walk.  It was a 5K though the Phoenix Zoo and was an absolutely beautiful day for a stroll through the zoo!  Avery was a very good girl and got quite a bit of attention with her tiny lime green City of Hope/Crescent Crown Distributing walk t-shirt.  After the walk we went to breakfast at Denny's and put Avery in one of the high chairs for the first time.  She still isn't sitting up quite yet, but is very close!

10-01-07:  Steve and I had a great weekend in Las Vegas with our friends Hannah & Mike.  We missed Avery a ton, but still managed to have a great time.  We knew she was in good hands.  Both sets of Grandparents took turns watching her.  I posted a couple of pictures that were taken while we were gone.

Unfortunately, Avery is not feeling well today.  She has just not been herself - not wanting to eat her baby food, fussy, chewing on her fingers and anything that gets close to her mouth.  She's been really warm all day, so we took her temperature and she had a 101.7° fever!  According to our little book, it sounds like she may be working on some more teeth.  Her gums are really swollen and red, so I'm sure any day now she'll pop another tooth through the gums.  : (

9-21-07:  Avery went to her first Diamondback's game tonight.  She was dressed in her little Dbacks t-shirt and had on her cute pink hat with jean capri's.  She got quite a bit of attention from the workers and people there  . . . . "ohhh, look how cute"!  : )  We got to the top of the stairs to go down to our seats and I went to take a picture of Avery with Chase Field in the background and dropped my camera.  Part of the lens popped out, pieces went flying.  Needless to say . . . . I take daily pictures of Avery and am absolutely lost and sick about my camera!  (This explains why no one has gotten pictures in about 5 days!)  Thankfully, my sister-in-law had her camera there and took a few pictures.  As soon as I get them from her, I will post them on the site.

In other news, Avery has been just the happiest little chatterbox there is.  She "talks" all day long and uses lots of inflection in her voice.  She has also learned how to scream (thanks to my sweet little daycare kids!).  She's loving her two new teeth likes to smile and show them off.  We give her a big chunk of an apple to gnaw on and she uses her little teeth to make "applesauce".  : )  We've moved her to stage 2 baby food and she LOVES the sweet potatoes!

Avery is still sleeping through the night.  She's been really good about doing this since about 4 months - ever since we started her on rice cereal!  She sleeps anywhere between 8-10 hours at night and naps 3-4 hours during the day.  She really is such a good little girl.  She's come a loooooong way from her colicky days!

Steve and I are taking our first trip out of town without Avery this weekend.  Grandma and Grandpa are coming down to babysit/dogsit for the weekend.  It'll be so good to get out of town for a few days, but we are going to miss our little "Sunshine" terribly!!

9/16/07 - Avery woke up with ANOTHER tooth!  Now she has her two bottom teeth through her gums.  Just the little bumpy tips are showing and it is sooo cute!!

9-15-07:  SHE'S GOT A TOOTH!

Yesterday Avery went for her 6 month check up and shots.  She was such a good girl and her doctor was very impressed by her excellent behavior and growth.  She weighs 17.8 pounds, is 27" tall, and her head circumfrence is 17 1/2".  She's in the 75th percentile for height and weight, and the 90th for her head.  The doctor said "that's good - she's got a big brain!"

When we got home, I changed Avery and peeked into her mouth.  I saw the white of her bottom teeth showing through her gums and thought that any day those will pop through.  Sure enough - this morning the rough edge of her bottom right tooth broke through!  Surprisingly, she was in a great mood yesterday after her shots and is again today.  : )

I can't believe that 6 months from now we'll be celebrating her 1st birthday.  My little girl is growing up so fast.  *sniff, sniff*

9/1/07 - Avery is finally over her little cold and is a much happier baby.  She really enjoys having my 2 year old daycare kids around.  She watches them so carefully and is already trying to do things that they can do.  So far this week she has learned to take off her diaper, grab any glass she sees and put it up to her mouth to take a drink, and grab toys out of other kids' hands.  She is also arching her back to try to get out of her Bumbo chair, and is working on sitting up by herself.

I can't believe that in two weeks, she'll be half way to her 1st birthday.  She is growing up so fast, and I am SO thankful that I'm able to be home with her to watch her grow and change.  She is SO MUCH FUN!!!

I put Avery on the scale and she is weighing in at about 17 pounds, and looks like she's about 26 inches long, but we'll get the full report on Sept. 14th when she goes in for her 6 month check-up.

Some of Avery's favorite things . . . . .

  • peas
  • pears
  • music and singing - especially "The Wheels on the Bus"
  • putting anything and everything in her mouth
  • curling/rolling her tongue (another new trick she learned this week)
  • sucking on a wet washcloth
  • taking baths and going in the pool - she's a splasher/kicker!!!

8-20-07:  It's been a while since I've updated!

Avery is now eating rice cereal and some fruit for both breakfast & dinner, and eats a whole jar of veggies for lunch.  She didn't care for the peaches, but still LOVES peas!  Whose child is this anyway?

Unfortunately, Avery has come down with her first cold.  She's got a stuffy/runny nose, sneezes and a cough.  Poor baby - you can just see it in her eyes that she doesn't feel good.  Last week two of my daycare kids has runny noses and the sneezes, so something must be going around.  I am constantly going around the house with the Lysol can and a Costco size container of Clorox wipes, but I guess some little germs managed to get past me.

We are scheduled to take our first trip out of town without Avery.  We're headed to Las Vegas at the end of September for a long weekend with our friends Hannah & Mike.  They have a 6 year old and a 3 week old baby who they will be leaving with their grandma as well.

Avery has still been sleeping through the night and it is soooo nice!  On occasion she'll wake up, but usually ends up putting herself back to sleep.

07/28/07 - Avery slept in her crib for the first time last night.  She did such a good job.  Steve put her to bed at about 9:45 p.m.  She was still awake and ended up putting herself to sleep.  (She usually isn't so good at that!)  She rolled over in her sleep at about 5:30 this morning, which woke her up.  I fed her and she went back to sleep until 8:00 a.m.!

07/23/07 - I am thrilled to report that Avery slept NINE hours last night!!!  This is 4 nights in a row that our little sweetie pie has slept through the night.  Ahhh, I love a full night's rest!  : )  Happy baby = happy mommy!

We have switched Avery back to her "special" formula.  We noticed a red, pimply rash all around her mouth, behind her ears and on her torso.  It's the same rash she had when we discovered she had a milk allergy.  We'll try her on the regular formula again in another month or so.

Daddy was out of town for the weekend in Chicago and returned last night.  Avery was all smiles to see him.  Daddy brought her a teeny little pink Cub's t-shirt - it's so cute!

The bbq with the daycare families was really fun.  The kids had a blast chasing each other in circles around the house.  The first official week of daycare was a success!  My spaces are full now and I am having to turn away people!  I have three 2 year olds, a 4 year old and an 18 month old.  Three of the kids are part time, so I won't have more than 4 kids here at a time.  They are all so sweet and they just love Avery!  Since it is so terribly hot outside, we keep quite busy inside with singing, dancing, playdough, paints, arts & crafts, building all kids of things with blocks, counting, letter recognition, and reading lots of stories!  It's amazing how all of those nursery rhymes and children's songs have come back into my mind.  I find myself humming and singing them while I'm doing dishes, house cleaning, etc!  I also find myself walking around bouncing while holding Rudy because I am so used to doing that with Avery!  ha ha!  I really enjoy having mostly 2 year olds so I can do more preschool type activities with them.  Avery sits in her Bumbo chair and just listens to and watches all of the things we do.  : )

7-21-07:  We've hit another milestone . . . .or two!

First - AVERY ROLLED OVER!!!  Her Uncle Cory put her to bed on her back last night at about 10:30 p.m.  I woke up just before 4:00 a.m. to let the dogs out and saw that she was about 3/4 of the way there.  When I woke up again at 5:30 . . . . she was completley on her tummy!!!  Of course - just as I predicted, Avery would hit this milestone while her daddy is away in Chicago for the weekend!

Second milestone????  Avery has slept for 8 hours the last two nights!  I don't know if it's the rice cereal that is helping to keep her belly full, or if she's just getting to be a big girl . . . but mommy and daddy are quite happy with this new trick!  : )
