3/20/08 - NEWS

So...I am updating the page again...wow...I don't do that nearly enough these days.  Life is just too busy!  SOOOO, I thought I would take the newest news from the front page and post it here as a story before I type something new.

WOW...I don't feel like I have stopped since before Christmas!!  Infact, I should be running, but here I sit updating the website!  OOPS, lol!  I don't even know where to begin!  I guess I should start at Christmas, since that is the last time I updated the page!!!

To begin our Christmas break, we made a short 2 1/2 day stop in Atlanta, GA to see some dear friends.  It was a WONDERFUL start to our break and just what we needed.  Then, we headed to SC to celebrate Christmas!  We got to spend a wonderful 6 days there to see family and friends.  Then it was off to FL to ring in the New Year!  It was another wonderful 6 days with friends and family...what a blessing!

We got back to MS on Jan. 5th and jumped right back into work and school.  It took a while to find a home for all the new Christmas loot, but we soon settled back into the swing of things.  Then we were surprised wtih a weekend of SNOW!  It was beautiful and the best part was that it only lasted for TWO days, lol!  We played and took tons of pictures.  The next weekend we were back off to FL for a long weekend of snorkeling with the manatees.  Again, lots of fun and lots of pictures!  Needless to say, Jan. was full of work and play.

We haven't slowed down at all since Feb. started.  Work and school has been in full swing.  The girls are still loving gymnastics and it seems to be our second home these days.  We have started "spring cleaning" a little early and have worked hard to kill those dust bunnies recently.  We have been cleaning out closets and moving furniture around.  Valentines has come and gone and was a quiet but special day.  Daddy spoiled us all and our annual cupcakes were made (but this time FROM SCRATCH...no premade mixes here)!  Next up is Mommy's birthday and it is a BIIG one (she is hitting the big 3-0) this year!  That should close our out Feb. on a big note, lol!

Looking into the future brings Spring Break (which means another trip to FL), Easter, and Cali's birthday.  WOW...will it ever stop?  I want to do better about getting on here and keeping everyone up to date, but I can't promise anything.  I will be back in one week with a BIIIG announcement (and NOOOOO it is NOT that there is a third little Mason on the way, I PROMISE)!  It is exciting news and I can't wait to tell you, but I have to...so come back in a week and I will let you know what is up next for us!

The Wonder of It All

This one just kills me!!

You all remember that we are driving a rental car this week right? We are waiting patiently for our car to get fixed and driving around the cute little black Mazda.

However, that cute little Mazda has NOTHING power...absolutely nothing. Each door has to be individually locked and unlocked by hand. Each window has a crank handle. The trunk has to be unlocked with a key. The mirrors have to be adjusted by hand (no easy little button to adjust them). I personally never realized how much I have gotten used to all the power windows, power doors, and power EVERYTHING in my car.

The part that kills me though is my daughters reaction to this. They do not have the slight annoyance that I do by the extra effort. In fact here is what Melisa had to say about them: "MOM, I LOOOOOVE this! Look at how I can make it go u of it all!p and down! You can't even lock it and it goes ALL the way down! I wish our car had windows like this!" I honestly think that Melisa and Cali would sit in the car all day long and roll the windows up and down over and over again. It never even crossed my mind that my children had NEVER seen a manual window in a car! Ohhhh, the wonder of it all!!

A Snowman with NO Snow...YIKES!

Today was going great...well ok, that is an exageration...today was going as good as a Friday can go after a LONG week! We were on our 7th day of school work in a 5 day period of time (yeah, we were playing catch up this week). The laundry was done, the kitchen and bathroom were clean, and I was working on the rest of the house in between school lessons. Cali was happily playing with her "babies" and her cars. They girls ate a great lunch and I decided to reward them with the last of the birthday cake (more so that it would be out of the house and quit temtping me).

I set Cali down at the coffee table with her cake while Melisa and I sat at the dinning room table working on History. Cali called out "Mommy, see my snowman." The good mommy that I am said "mmmhmmm" and went on with the history lesson without really looking up. This continued for about 5 minutes when I finally decided to go see the snowman. As I walked into the living room Cali announces "It melted." I looked down and she had built a snowman with the icing off her piece of cake and then flattened it all over my coffee table! There was icing EVERYWHERE! All over her, all over the table, on the floor and even on the dog!

No worries, 15 minutes, 3 washcloths, a sponge bath and a little cleaner and everything was back to normal. Ahhhh, gotta love the adventures of Mommyhood!

Seeing Santa

I wrote this back on Dec. 2, 2007 for my blog and thought I would share it here too.  :-)

Today we ventured out for the anual trip to the mall to see Santa. The girls were excited as we walked through the mall. They didn't once ask to stop and ride the little toys along the middle of the mall, they didn't ask to go in the toy store, shoe store, or movie store (all favorite stops). They didn't even ask for a pretzel! They had their sights set on Santa and there was no getting in their way, lol!

We got there and waited in line for what seemed like an hour but was more like 20 minutes. The girls couldn't stop making little waves at Santa until the saw the men up on the roof cleaning the sky lights. That entertained them for a good 15 minutes. The last 5 minutes I spent holding them back from plowing through the people in front of us. When the "Elf" finally told them they could go on you would have thought the starting gun had been fired and they were on a race for life!

Hand in hand they ran for Santa's chair and climbed up in his lap...then their true colors came out. Melisa started talking a mile a minute and Cali clammed up like a shell! This is the first year that Cali didn't scream her head off, so we made progress, but she stared at me the entire time afraid if she took her eyes of me she would be Santa's forever! She had a half smirk on her face the entire time but at the same time she wasn't too sure about it all. :-)

Santa asked Melisa what she wanted for Christmas and she asked for a stuffed animal Alaskan Husky. Then she got really quiet and in a whisper asked for the sweetest thing ever! She said "Santa, someone stole my Mommy's bike from her work and I would really like it if you gave her a new one." Isn't she just a doll? Santa told her that it was the nicest thing anyone has asked for and it was very generous to think of others. That's my girl! :-)

Then Santa asked Cali what she wanted. She cut her eyes at ophim and then back at me afraid to speak. Finally, Melisa said "Cali, tell Santa what you want." Then out came the littlest squeak ever, "baby." Melisa pushed a little more and said, "What was the other thing you wanted?" and Cali made another little squeak of a noise and said, "Choo Train." and that was the end of that! LOL!

They got their picture taken (but the CD they gave me is corrupt and won't open on any computer....grrrrr)! Tomorrow I will be going back down to see what they will do about it after gymnastics. So, until I figure out what they are going to do, I won't be able to share the picture with you. But, I promise it turned out as cute as can be! I tried to snap a picture of my own but was told that their set was copyrighted and I couldn't take a picture of it...I think it is just an answer they give to make more money...ugh!

They both got reindeer antlers, stickers, candycanes, and a stuffed snowman to share. They were in such good moods we were actually able to walk around the mall and get ideas for Christmas presents for a whole hour before any whinning started! WHOOOHOOOO!!!
I always love our trip to see Santa...it is so special!! Now it is off to bed because tomorrow morning is gymnastics day AND laundry day...I will have my hands full!

Adventures In Potty Training

****WARNING...THIS IS A MOMMY KIND OF BLOG POST, lol****

So, today I finally decided we needed a little more motivation for potty training! As soon as gymnastics was over we headed to Walmart! We bought a small training potty that plays music when she uses it, 2 packs of panties (Tinkerbell and Disney Princesses), and some hersey kisses! As soon as we got home I took the potty out of the box and she couldn't wait to sit on it! Within 5 minutes the music was playing and we had success! She got a hersey kiss and a pair of tinkerbell panties in place of her pull up.

We settled in and started house work and school work. About an hour into our routine Cali hopped up and yelled "I pee pee in my potty" and she took off running to the bathroom. She was in such a hurry she ran smack into the door, lol! I picked her up off the floor and we kept on trucking to the bathroom. As soon as she sat down we heard music again....that is the sweetest music my ears have ever heard!! She got another kiss and still had dry tink undies.

All had been quiet and Miss. Kristy came knocking to watch the girls while I went to work. Cali got excited and told Kristy that she would pee pee in her potty! So, off we went to show her and sure enough, as soon as she sat down that sweet music played again. Another kiss was in order...man that child is going to be wound up, lol! We put her back in a pull up though because it was time to head out of the house to ballet.

When I got home from work, I was sad to see that she had a wet pull-up on. But, I asked her if she wanted to put Tinkerbell back on and try to use her potty. At first she said no and ate on her dinner. But a few minutes later she came running and said "Mommy I go poopy! " I checked her pull up and it was clean, so took her to the potty. This time we sat and sat and sat and sat some more! Finally, after what felt like forever I heard the music playing and sure enough, we had gone poopy in the potty! This is a first for us!

I feel like we made GREAT strides today and look forward to another sucessful day tomorrow! Maybe, just maybe we can be potty trained by Christmas! Am I that lucky? I think we can, I think we can, I think we can!

A Daddy's Arms

I wrote this on my blog back on Nov. 18, 2007 and wanted to share it with you here too.  I hope you enjoy it!

I was sitting here playing around with pictures on the computer and trying to unwind after an incredibly crazy week when I saw the most amazing picture of the relationship I want to have with my Heavenly Father! It was actually a sceene that took about 5 minutes to play through.
Clark told Cali he had a ball for her in the car and asked if she wanted to play. She got really excited and said "My ball Daddy, get my ball!" She stood at the door and watched him get her ball. But when he came back it wasn't what she was expecting. She stomped her foot and crossed her arms and pouted. She didn't want to look at him, she just wanted her way.

Let me pause to say that this is me all too often. I see God start to open a new door for me. I can see the blessings coming. Then, all of a sudden I see what He had in store for me and it wasn't what I was expecting, so I stomp my feet, or rather drag them, and pout about it.

Now, back to my story from today. Clark proceeded to play with the ball. He bounced it, he threw it and he hit himself in the head with it a few times. As she started to see what that ball had in store for her her arms uncrossed and slowly the pout became a smile. She couldn't fight the giggles when Daddy proceeded to hit Mommy in the head with the ball. Before long she was playing and laughing and LOVING her gift from Daddy.

Now, God does this to me. He will continue to move along with HIS plans dispite my hissy fit. As I see His will unfold I fall in love with the new place I find myself and know that His plan was better all along. I find myself laughing and giggling. I find myself in His joy. He is the ultimate Daddy and He delights in His children.

Cali was having a great time. The ball went rolling to the playroom and she took off after it. Once in the playroom something caught her eye and is scared her. She didn't think twice about what to do when she was scared. She ran right to her Daddy saying "Uppy Me Daddy, Uppy me! I scared!" Clark scooped her up and wrapped his loving arms around his little girl and kept her safe. He carried her right back to what scared her and asked her what was wrong. She promptly showed him a scary looking toy. It's amazing how that toy wasn't nearly as scary from the safety of her Daddy's arms. As soon as she showed it to him, Clark removed the toy from the playroom and let her know that she was safe. She the wrapped her little arms around his neck and said "Tankyou Daddy, I wub you!" (Thank you Daddy, I love you). Clark once again wrapped his arms around her, held her tight, said "I love you too baby." She knows that she can run to him anytime she is afraid now. There is now safer place than her Daddy's arms!

Oh, think about it! Our "Daddy" is the most powerful and amazing one arouond. Changes and trials can be very scary but we have a "Daddy" who is bigger than anything this world can throw at us, because HE created it! He is waiting to scoop us up in His arms and carry us through the trials and help us face the changes head on. He is our shelter in the storm and our strength when we are weak. Why is it then that I fail to run immediately to him like Cali ran to Clark? I try to do it on my own, I try to find help around me, and then when I come to the end of my rope I FINALLY run to Him for help. I want my first response to be running to my Daddy, my Father in Heaven. The safest place I could ever be is in my Father's Arms!

12/1/07 - TRYING TO CATCH UP!!!

Ok..so, I have gotten better about keeping the pictures and front page updated, but I have been HORRIBLE about the stories page.  There are quite a few blog entries if you want to go check out all the little stories of things that have happened, but I am going to do a quick catch up here...so bear with me!

We have been up to all kinds of Fall Fun!  We kicked the fall off with a trip to Birmingham.  Family from SC met us there and watched the girls at the hotel while we were in meetings.  It was a fun weekend and a treat to see family after so long.  The girls had fun running Grammy and Gramps ragged, lol!

When we got home we were surprised to have Melisa AND Cali both excel in gymnastics.  Cali has been promoted from the Mommy and Me class to the big 3 and 4 year old class (even though she is only 2 1/2).  Melisa's coach talked to the owner of the gym and they would like her to be on the competition team next year.  Just this week her coach told has that she has learned everything her class can teach, but because of her age and the other classes being full she can't be moved up.  SO, her coach is going to come in while Cali is in class and do one on one lessons with Melisa on top of her normal class.  It looks like I have two little gymnasts on my hands!

One weekend we kept Saturday free and got the cleaning done earlier in the week and headed to the zoo!  Daddy had never been to the Hattiesburg Zoo and since the girls love it so much, we wanted to share it with him.  We took a picnic lunch and had a BLAST!

We also went to a fall festival at a local church.  There were games, face painting and a pumpkin patch.  We picked out two perfect pumpkins and came home to carve them.  We had a blast carving the pumpkins and playing outside.  We made the mouth of one pumpkin look like the batman signal.  The other pumpkin we let Melisa design on her very own.  She was so excited to get to do her own thing on it...and she did a great job!  Cali really dove in for the first time and dug out the guts with us.  It was awesome seeing both girls enjoy the family tradition of carving the pumpkins!  We even roasted pumpkin seeds for the first time and they turned out GREAT!  YUM!!

Planet gymnastics had a special Halloween party that Melisa went to AND the girls were allowed to wear their costumes durring their classes the week of Halloween.  Melisa was Supergirl and Cali was a Bumble Bee.  They were both too cute and had a blast.  Cali walked around telling everyone "I a Bee!"

On Halloween day we went to gymnastics, went to the Zoo, played Laser Tag with the International Students, went to the Trunk or Treat at church, then headed to the mall, and finally finished the night out by stopping by the neighbors house.  Whew, I am tired just thinking about all that we did!  It was a great Halloween that made up for the years we missed because we were in Korea.  It was a BLAST!

About 2 weeks after Halloween, we took spent a Saturday up at the school taking the International Students through the ropes course.  It was a fun day out in the trees!  Melisa actually went through the course again and Cali hung out with the students on the ground! After the course, we headed out to another Carey Staff Members house and had dinner.  It was a wonderful ending to a day a long day in the trees!

For Thanksgiving we invited one student to spend the week with us.  It was a fun having someone in the house for the week.  Melisa felt like she had a big sister and it gave us an extra person to be Thankful for.  We made all the fixing and I cooked my first turkey ever.  We got some sad news about our neighbors grandmother but were able to invite them to join in on our dinner and eat along side us.  It turned out to be a blessing of a day!

As soon as Thanksgiving was over, we started bringing out the Christmas decorations.  We bought a live tree and decked the halls.  We still haven't put any lights up outside yet, but that is coming this weekend (I hope).  The house looks like Christmas and the cool weather makes it feel like Christmas.  I love this time of the year!  I love celebrating the birth of my savior.  I love it all!

So, there you go...the last few months in a nutshell.  I am sure I left a LOT out, but that is all I can think of right now. :-)  I will be back soon with more updates!

8/30/07 - CALI SAVES THE DAY!

This happened a few days ago, but I HAVE to post this story!  Melisa, Cali and I went to walmart to do a quick grocery run.  We were in a BIG hurry to beat a thunder storm that was rolling in.  The first buggy I got had a wheel that kept sticking, so I went and traded it out.  I put Cali, Misa, and Cali's shoes in the new buggy and off we went.  For the first 5 minutes Cali kept yelling "MOMMY...." and then I couldn't understand what she was saying.  In my rush I kept ignoring her and saying "it's ok Cali."  Well, one time what she was saying finally hit me like a mac truck!  She was pointing back to the grocery carts yelling "Mommy, your keys!"  You see, my keys AND wallet are on a beaner and I hooked them to the cart because I forgot to put a belt on and they were pulling down my pants...not fun!  But, in my rush to change carts, I completely forgot to get my keys AND wallet.  Cali would NOT let it go and I am SOOO glad!  We ran back and the buggy was gone.  We searched the store for a buggy with my keys and couldn't find them.  I finally went to customer service and described my keys and sure enough they had them AND my wallet AND everything was still there!  WHEW...God was watching out for me!  I gave my girlie the BIGGEST hug and kiss ever!  I wouldn't have realized it until check out time...my girlie saved the day for sure!!

8/26/07 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUG!

I can't believe Melisa is EIGHT years old!  WOW...where have the years gone?  It feels like just yesterday she was a little baby just home from the hospital and now she is eight years old and having a Luau in our backyard for her birthday!

We woke up yesterday morning to clean, decorate, and get the food ready.  Almost everything was done by noon when we heard the thunder start to rumble!  As soon as Misa heard it everything about her sank!  We had planned ALL kinds of outside fun and rain was the last thing we needed for it.  Within 10 minutes the rain was pouring, lightening was popping and thunder was rolling!  It was a nasty storm.  We kept reminding Melisa that she had 2 hours until the party started to try to cheer her up.  We sat down and prayed for God to move the storm on by before the party.  Two o'clock came around and the rain was still falling but the thunder had started to fade.  So, we ate and visited inside for an hour and by three o'clock the storm was gone...YAY!!!

We rushed outside to fill up the swimming pool and blow up the waterslide.  The kids had a BLAST on the waterslide!  Even some of the "big kids" (adults) got in on the action and went down the slide!  After 45 minutes of playing in the water we remembered we still had a pinata to break, cake and ice cream to eat, and presents to open.  SO...we dried off, changed clothes and got busy partying!  Melisa got quite the loot of highschool musical goodies, art supplies, movies, music, and more.  Our neighbor gave her a HUGE 5 foot fish that he had and she LOVED.  We still don't know where it is going to live, but she is the proud owner of it.  :-)  Mommy and Daddy gave her a TV for her room.  We aren't giving her cable but we hooked Daddy's Playstation 2 up to it and it plays DVD's.  The TV is a Strawberry Shortcake one and is just TOO cute for words.  After presents there was a little more hula dancing and a round or two of limbo before everyone finally left.

We may have had her party a month late but it was well worth the wait because she had a BLAST!  I just love throwing birthday parties for my girlies!

8/24/07 - The Study of Your Brain!

Well, as you know we started back to school this week.  We have quickly learned that in third grade science, history, and health are a lot more detailed than the past 3 years.  Yesterday we were talking about the nervous system and how it is made up of 3 main parts.  First your brain, second your spinal cord and finally your nerves.  As we were discussing it I stressed to Melisa that her brain controlls her entire body without her having to think about it.  Her brain tells her heart to beat, her lungs to breath, her eyes what they are seeing, and her digestive system to function properly.  WELL, at that she says "You know what happens in your digestive system right Mom?  That means that my brain controlls my BUTT!"  This was followed by my dear, cute, sweet eight year old falling out of her chair and rolling on the floor laughing until the tears started flowing!  If she learns nothing else in third grade she has learned that her brain controlls her butt!  You gotta love eight year olds!  ;-)

Annual Doctors Appointment
Current mood: busy

With Clark out of town, I decided to make the girls annual check-ups.  Cali had her 2 year old check-up and Melisa had her (dare I say it) 8 year old check up.  They both did really well.  Melisa went in first and she is 43 pounds and 47 5/8 inches tall.  She is in the 5th percentile for weight and 10th percentile for height.  She had to get blood work done and have her finger pricked.  She freaked out a bit but once she realized it didn't hurt at all she ended up laughing at herself.  It was cute.  She also had an eye exam and she has 20/20 vission...YAY!  She also had her first experience having to do the dreaded "pee in a cup" thing.  The look on her face when I told her what she was going to do was priceless.  Her eyes got WIDE and she said "WHY, WHAT DO THAT WANT THAT FOR??"  It cracked me up!  She checked out as healthy as could be!

Cali went next and she weighs in at 22 1/2 pounds and is 35 and some odd inches tall.  She is at the 3rd percentile for weight and 50th for height.  She had to have her last Hep A shot and is now good until she starts school...YAY!!  The nurse and I held her and she thought we were pretty goofy.  When she got stuck she flinched and then laughed.  The nurse nick named her Little Miss. Toughy!  I have NEVER seen a kid laugh after a shot.  It was SO funny!  She was proud of her bandaid and showed it to everyone we saw.  What a nut!  I must say I was SO glad that they both checked out so healthy and right on schedule!

At 3:00 in the afternoon we headed to the dentist for Melisa to have a work done.  They painted some stuff on her adult molars to protect them from getting cavities in the long run.  Then they pulled 3 teeth up top.  The teeth weren't bad or anything but the big girl teeth that were trying to come through just couldn't.  So, Misa got some "happy gas" and let me tell you, she WAS happy!  LOL!  She announced she was coming back to the dentist every day to get some of it.  When it was all over and she felt how numb her lip was she broke down into tears then when she figured out what they had done (I didn't tell her because I didn't want her worked up and worried about pain) she was MAD at me.  She wouldn't talk to me for an hour.  But as the feeling came back in her mouth and she realized that she had THREE teeth for the tooth fairy, she got happy again and I got lots of cuddles!  Don't tell her, but she looks like the cutest little beaver with only her two front teeth up front!  All the teeth beside it are gone.  It is as cute as she was with two missing front teeth.

So, we are all doctored out now.  I am glad we were able to get them all done in one day though.  Because, today, we are off to the ZOO!  I am sure there will be pictures to come...just wish Daddy were here to enjoy it with us!

Hope everyone has a fun Saturday!

8/21/07 - I'm Back AGAIN!

OK, OK!  I am HORRIBLE...I got on a role for all of a week and then disappeared again!  I have once again kept up (kind of) on my blog.  Go check out the stories from the past month or so on my blog at www.pnutsplace.blogspot.com  and forgive me for not posting all the cute things the girls have said and done on the website...I know I have missed a LOT of great moments because of the craziness of life.  Now that the summer is over and we are getting settled into a "normal" schedule again I hope I can get on here at least once a week with updates...that is my goal!

We have had a GREAT summer.  We finished homeschool the last week of May and then had about a week true summer break before moving into the dorms on campus for the summer.  We spent a little over 2 weeks preparing for camp and training the staff.  Then we had a week (the week of the Fourth of July) at home and then moved back on campus for a 2 1/2 more weeks or so.  We had 3 groups of campers come through and Melisa even joined a cabin for one mini week.  I can't believe she was a camper at a sleep in camp!  YIKES...she is growing up!  The girls got spoiled rotten at camp from the staff, the youth leaders, the cafeteria workers, and the campers.  They had a BLAST and were sad to see it come to an end.  But, it did come to an end on July 22nd.

We didn't have long to rest because Melisa's birthday was July 24th!  I can't believe my big girl turned EIGHT!!!  We had to postpone her birthday party a bit, but asked what she wanted to do to celebrate and she chose a nearby waterpark.  SO, we packed up and headed to the waterpark and spent the day in the sun and water.  It was too much fun.  There was an amazing kids zone, a cool lazy river, 4 awesome big slides, and a baby pool that Cali LOVED!  She got a few of her presents and an ice cream cake when we got home from the water park!

Two days latter Clark and I had a bitter sweet day.  We celebrated our NINTH wedding anniversary...we are getting close to the big ONE, ZERO!   Unfortunately we only got to spend from 5 am until 7 am together and we arrived at the airport.  We said bye to Clark as he headed off to a 17 day trip to China.  He taught English at a University and did some recruiting.  We missed him dearly, but stayed busy while he was gone.  An old friend came to visit for 4 days.  While she was here we went to the zoo and got a pet hermit crab, and all kinds of fun stuff.  After she left we spent a few days making sure the house was clean and our bags were packed and we flew to FL for a week.  Cali spent her first 24 hours away from me with Mommom while I went SCUBA diving with my Dad and brother.  She did ok...except the midnight to 4 am screaming fit...OOPS!  While in FL we got to go to Wonder Works, to the fire school with Papa, swimming in Mommoms pool, riding four wheelers, and out to eat with old friends.  It was a FUN trip!

We were finally all back together on August 11th and Melisa and I were down and out with a nasty cold.  Clark spent Sunday taking care of us and unpacking and Monday morning it was back to work.  Tuesday our International Students started arriving back in MS and we spent the week going to and from the airport.  Friday night (Aug. 17) the girls and I headed to New Orleans for a wedding reheral while Clark picked up another group of students.  He met us on Saturday and we were all 4 in the wedding.

We were back home Saturday night but went different ways again on Sunday.  Clark headed back to the airport to pick up students while the girls and I headed to the Korean church to teach Sunday School.  It went well, but Cali left with a busted lip swollen up to the size of a grape...it was PITIFUL!

Monday, I cleaned and Clark caught up on work since he was out of the office and at the airport so much last week.  Melisa and Cali got one more lazy day of the summer before school started back.  NOW, that brings us to today!  We started back to school...YEAH!  Melisa is now in third grade and Cali started preschool 2!  They both had GREAT first days and I am SOOO proud of them!

Well...there you have it...our summer in a nutshell.  I will try to keep up on here better...forgive me for being gone so much!  If you want more details about our summer be sure to read all the stories I posted on my blog... www.pnutsplace.blogspot.com

5/18/07 - The Best Big Sister in the WORLD!

I typed ALL about how Cali's appointment went and how she is doing, but I forgot to write about one REALLY important detail...Melisa!  She was an amazing big sister durring all of this.  When the called Cali's name to be taken back she instantly teared up.  The nurses asked if Cali had any special stuffed animal to take with her and I let them know that she had a blankie!  That was NOT good enough for Melisa.  She immediately pulled out Max, her most special stuffed animal, and handed it to Cali.  It was the sweetest gester I have ever seen!

While Cali was waiting, Melisa did everything she could to play with Cali and keep her happy.  She made sure Max went with Cali into surgery.  She cried for her after she left us and prayed for her as well.  As the minutes passed she asked every nurse who passed us how her little sister was doing!  When Cali came back and was coming off the medicine Melisa requested an ice pop and a cup of sprite for Cali.  She stood at an arms length away ready to help in ANY way she could.  She is SO precious!  I love how much they love each other!!

5/18/07 - Home and Well!

We are home well!  :-)  Cali is slowly getting back to herself but is still pretty sleepy, swollen and grumpy.

We woke up this morning at 5 am to have her at the doctors office by 7:30.  We were all checked in and ready to go by 7:45.  By 8:15 we were in our "room" waiting for the doctor to send the "giggle juice" to calm Cali down before they took her.  We waited, and we waited, and we waited some more.  We colored, we read books, we watched Scooby-Doo on the TV, we blew bubbles, and we did everything else we could think of to entertain Cali.  Finally at 9:45 they brought her "giggle juice" and then we waited some more while the meds started to work.  By the time she was pretty loopy and droopy they nurses came and took Cali it was 10:05.  They came to let us know she was out of surgery and coming off the meds at about 11:15 and by 11:30 we had her back in our arms.  Although, she came off from the meds mad at the world and ready to take it on.  She was screaming, kicking, and making quite the sceene.  It took her a minute to realize I had her but when she did she quickly settled down in my arms and went back to sleep.  We got her to drink some liquids and once the nurses were satisfied that she could keep it down they took out her IV, we got her dressed (much to her dismay) and we headed home.  We finally got home a little after 12.

She ended up having 3 fillings, 4 silver caps on her molars and 4 white caps on her four front teeth.  She is on antibiotics for the next 10 days and because she is so little she is just taking for tylenol/motrin for pain.  She still won't eat anything but soft foods, but that is to be expected.  The swelling has gone down a lot, but is still kind of there.  She has a nemo bandaid where the IV was on her hand and couldn't wait to get her hospital band cut off.  She is being a clingy Mommy's girl, but what is new?  I can tell the meds are still coming out of her system because every once in a while she will kind of stumble or fall for no reason.  I am keeping a close eye on her.  Her teeth look great though and I am glad we were able to get it taken care of!

Thanks everyone for all of your prayers!  We truly have felt them all day long!

8/17/07 - DENTAL SURGERY TOMORROW!

I know I haven't said anything about it on here, but Cali is going through a very similar dental proceedure that Melisa did 2 years ago.  Cali has been waiting on someone to cancel so that she could get in.  We got the phone call this morning and Cali will be going into the outpatient surgery clinic attached to the local hospital.  She will be sedated as if she were having her tonsils out or tubes put in her ears.  I must say that I am worried because she has never been really sick or had a lot of meds.  I am praying that she has no reactions to the meds they give her.  She was born with the same soft teeth that Melisa was born with (and that Clark and I had as children).  Those soft teeth combined with the lack of flouride in Korea did her teeth in quickly.  Tomorrow morning at 7:30 they will sedate her and she will have 8 teeth worked on.  Please pray for her to come through the proceedure safely and for God to guide the doctors hands.

If you are interested you can search way back in our archives to read about Melisa's experience.

Thanks in advance for all the prayers you will send up!

5/06/07 - I'M BAAACK!!!

Well, the last story I posted about the girls on here was a LONG time ago...it was a few days before Thanksgiving when we were still living in Jeju!  WOW, so much has happened since then.  We had a week in Seoul where we had meetings, visited with friends, celebrated Thanksgiving and said some hard good-byes.  Then we had a week in Pusan visiting dear friends or rather our Korean family and said some more hard good-byes.

Then we flew to America where we landed in South Carolina and spent some much needed time with family.  We celebrated Christmas with them a bit early and had a blast.  Then we rented a car and drove to FL to celebrate Christmas with family there.  The girls got spoiled rotten at Christmas.  I don't think they ever need to recieve another toy again!  It was so aweosme to be able to give them presents and not worry about whether or not the presents would fit in a suitecase!!

We spent the rest of December and most of January going between Florida and South Carolina visiting with family.  It was an amazing time and I can't even begin to tell you all we did and saw.  A few of the highlights were a trip to Disney and a trip to go snorkeling with Manatees.  It was an awesome time.

On January 25th we packed up and made the long drive to Mississippi where we settled into our new home.  We continued homeschooling, we began working at William Carey University, the girls started gymnastics, and so much more.  We have been enjoying having a backyard and English speaking friends and activities.  What a blessing!

We have joined a homeschool group and Melisa got to take a field trip to the space center here in Mississippi.  She loved making friends and learning about the space program.  It is so cool that she got to participate in her first REAL field trip!  We had an awesome day and got some great pictures!!

We did make a trip to FL for Spring Break and enjoyed that break visiting with family again.  Then shortly after we got back to MS we had family visit to celebrate Cali's birthday and Easter with us.  That's right, Cali celebrated a birthday and turned 2!  We had a fun party at our house with the Wiggles theme.  It was so much fun and we took TONS of pictures.  Cali got all out side toys so that they can enjoy our backyard a little more!  It was so exciting.

The girls enjoyed their first easter back in America too.  Melisa sang with the childrens choir at church and the girls attended 2 egg hunts.  The Easter bunny spoiled them with some great suprises in their baskets.  It was fun to celebrate Easter "american style" again.  Another blessing of being home.

Now, we are counting down to summer break.  Summer is going to be filled with some time spent at William Carey working at camp and hopefully some trips to see family again.  However, what we are really looking forward to is family fun outside.  Melisa has almost mastered riding her bike without training wheels and Cali LOVES the bike seat on the back of my bike.  We have an awesome bike trail that we are planning to hit often this summer.

I have detailed stories of all that we have done in the past 5 months or so on my blog... www.pnutsplace.blogspot.com  If you are interested in reading more about all we have been doing please go check it out and read through the archives.  I am determined to start updating stories here regularly again, so make sure you keep coming back for more updates!

I will posting pictures on the pictures page soon!!

I have missed being on here!!!

11/20/06 - BYE BYE BALLET

Melisa stopped going to ballet class a few months ago because she was beginning to get bored with the same thing over and over again.  However, the girls in her class were still great friends whom she LOVED to play with.  So, today we headed up to the ballet school to say good-bye.  It seems one of the mom's at the school gave the other moms a heads up and they threw a good-bye party for Misa!  There were cookies and drinkable yogurt, games, and music.  They even bought Misa and Cali presents!  We stayed for an hour playing and visiting.  It was SOO sweet and special.  God really blessed us with amazing friends while in Korea.  It was such a sweet good-bye!

11/19/06 - ONE LAST PLAYDATE

Today Melisa went to her friend, Judy's house one last time.  Judy is a good Korean friend of Melisa's who was in her ballet class.  Judy's mom came and picked Melisa up at 10 am and then took the girls to a beauty salon where Judy got her hair done and Melisa got her nails done.  Then they went to a photography studio and got proffessional portraits made. Melisa ended up staying with them until about 2:30 playing and having a GREAT time!  It was awesome that she had one last chance to spend time with a dear Korean friend!

I don't have my scanner anymore...it is on a ship to America, but I did take pictures with my camera of the pictures of the girls.  It doesn't do them justice because they turned out beautifully, but you can at least get an idea of what they look like!  :-)

11/18/06 - MASON FAMILY UPDATE!

Well, I have been REALLY slack in keeping things up on the website...PLEASE forgive me! I know I have caught up on all the major events that have happened recently, but I haven't been getting all those stories of the cute things the girls have said or done recently and I am sorry about that!  I hate how far behind I have gotten.  So, I figured it was about time I got on here and gave an update about what the girls are doing these days!

We will start with Misa!  She is doing really good, she just has some down times about moving and leaving Korea.  She is doing AMAZING in school!  Her grades are so good it is unbelievable!  She is just one smart little girl!  Bible and Reading are still her favorite subjects, but everything is growing on her.  She is doing great on her Bible memorization and poetry memorization...she amazes me with the detail she can remember!  Right now she is remembering her love for horses and is addicted to them!  She loves reading about them, playing with them, drawing them and would ride them every day if she had one of her own!  She still loves drawing but now she likes to draw things and cut them out and play with them.  She made a caterpillar, a chrysalis, and a butterfly out of paper the other day and played with it for hours.  She also made a spider, a spider's web, and baby spiders a few weeks ago and played with them for an entire week.  She is SOO creative!  She loves reading and watching movies.  She is counting the days until she can get back into a dance class, she REALLY misses it!  Now that a lot of our toys are packed, she is really starting to like playing card games with me!  We play a card game or two every night...it is our bonding time...LOL!  When we first moved to Korea, Melisa didn't want to sleep in her room across the house from us, so she began sleeping on a Korean yo (floor bed) in our room.  However, 10 days ago she decided she wanted to try sleeping in her bed in her room, so she did and she hasn't turned back.  She has been in her room every night, all night, and is loving it.  It was SO sudden but nice to have her in her own bed now!  Along with moving to her room she has developed a fascination with the tooth fairy.  She has left a tooth fairy a letter every night asking her what her name is, if she believed in Jesus and if they could be friends.  The tooth fairy wrote her back but said she had to stop coming every night because she was getting behind on her tooth work.  Misa and Daddy have begun watching videos on free running and Melisa wants to learn how.  It has gotten her addicted to running and climbing everywhere she goes.  I think she has great potential as a free runner!  Her heart for the Lord is as strong as ever and she is still my little accountability partner making sure I spend time with God every day and feel bad if she doesn't!  I thank God every day for the heart He has given her!!

Cali is doing great as well!  She doesn't seem too affected by the move yet, but I know it will come when she doesn't have our apartment...her refuge...to come home too.  She is a different baby here at our apartment than she is anywhere else.  I know the hardest part is still to come for her.  She is growing and changing every day!  She loves to play with anything that has buttons...if she can push it and make a noise, she is in heaven!  She also loves to find little places to bring a small toy or two in to hide.  If you can't find Cali she is probably hiding in a closet with 2 or 3 action figures playing.  She is just too sweet.  She is finally beginning to let us read to her.  She will bring us a book and actually sit for the whole story now.  She also likes for us to ask her to point to pictures in the books and she finds them.  She will find a horse, a cat, a dog, a pumpkin, a girl, a boy, a ball, and so on.  She just LOVES to play this game and claps for herself after she points.  She also loves to throw balls and often gets in trouble for throwing things that aren't balls!  LOL! She is also starting to like to watch videos.  She still won't sit for a whole movie, but she likes to watch short video clips on YouTube.com  She loves The Wiggles and Veggie Tales.  It is fun to watch her try to dance to their music!  Her new favorite toy is Junior from Veggie Tales...he sings God is Bigger and she hums along with it...it is the sweetest thing ever!  She is also starting to talk more.  She still doesn't talk a lot to us, but we recently discovered that when she hides in her closet, she is talking to her toys....I guess she is shy.  She is finally starting to hold our hands and make us sit in the closet with her and when she does we can get her to talk to us too.  It is so sweet to really be hearing her voice.  She can now say these words: Mama, Dada, Dog, Go, No (actually she likes to say no no no no no no), yes, mine, hug, cup, bye, hello, hi, that, this, and baby.  I may be forgetting a word or two in my list because her talking is finally coming faster and faster.  When she doesn't know how to say something, she comes and gets our hands and brings us to what she wants us to see or do.  She even brings me my shoes when she is tired of being inside and wants to go on a walk!  She is developing such a great little personality!  Cali also now HATES to have a wet or dirty diaper.  She will start to tug at her diaper and take off her jeans if she is wet...I am hoping that this is a sign that potty training will be easy...yeah right!  The sweetest thing Cali is doing these days is showing us where Jesus lives.  When we ask her she will point to Heaven and then to her heart and our hearts.  It is SOO sweet.  It is never too early to teach them to love their maker!

My favorite things about the girls is how much they love each other.  They play together all the time!  Cali follows her big Sissy and copies everything she does.  Misa helps Cali and always makes sure she is safe and included!  They give each other the sweetest hugs and love to curl up together.  Misa reads books to Cali and Cali claps for Misa!  They are the sweetest sisters I have ever seen.  Don't get me wrong, they have their spats where they yell at each other and take toys from each other and even come and tell me on each other!  BUT, their sweet moments far outweigh their rough ones as sisters!  I LOVE watching them together!

So, there you go...FINALLY an update on all that the girls are up to these days!  They are SO much fun and growing WAY too fast!  I treasure every moment with them and LOVE being their Mommy!

11/11/06 - HAPPY PEPERO DAY!!

Today was not only crating day, it was also the Korean Holiday Pepero Day!  Pepero are buscuit type sticks dipped in chocolate. 7 years ago the company who makes them declared 11/11 Pepero Day because it looks like 4 Pepero standing in a row. It cracks me up! Everyone gives everyone one else pepero on this day. Grocery stores, convienent stores, stationary stores, and any other store who can get a piece of it sell pepero of every size, shape, and flavor available. There are even huge baskets put together to buy and give as a pepero day gift!

For the past 4 years we have gotten Melisa a special Pepero Day gift and this year was no exception!  We went out to the store and bought both  Misa and Cali a box of that yummy buscuit and chocolate goodness!  They enjoyed sitting and eating the mega sized Pepero this evening.  Go check out the pictures on the pictures page!  :-)
