11. December 2007 Judging by the new pictures, I guess you can tell that squash wasn't a huge hit. Actually, she did warm up to it by the end of the week. She's been making a lot of funny faces lately. She'll squint, scrunch up her nose and and pucker her lips. We're not sure what she's trying to say, but it sure is funny. We finally caught one of these faces on camera. In the last week, she's been sitting without any help. We just put a toy box at her feet and she entertains herself for a quite awhile. Usually, the toys end up getting dumped out and the box ends up on her head. She's already such a ham. She laughs at the littlest things. There's nothing like a baby giggle. The family just loves watching her laugh and show off those little dimples. Also, her sitter has been teaching her to wave at the baby in the mirror. She thinks that's fun. Sometimes when the baby in the mirror "waves back", she'll turn and tuck her head into my shoulder. Does this mean we may still have a shy child?? Doubtful!
29 November 07 Audrey had a nice 1st Thanksgiving. She was too busy playing and giggling to try any mashed potatoes. This week she tried sweet peas. She did okay at first, then decided she didn't have to eat them if she didn't want to. And so it begins......
We think she'll be crawling soon. She's getting faster at scooting around. We really have to watch her because it doesn't take long for her to reach stuff. Also, she is almost going from lying down to a sitting position on her own. She just needs a little help up and a little support once she's sitting. Our Boppy pillow is coming in handy for that!
17 November 07 We can't believe our little Sweet Pea is 6 months old! My goodness! Her last doctor's visit went well. Her pediatrician was so surprised that Audrey was okay with being held by a "stranger" that she didn't want to give her back. Apparently, babies develop a stranger anxiety around this age. With our big family, she doesn't stand a chance. Someone is always holding her.
Audrey now weighs 16 lbs 15 oz. We packed away her 3-6 month clothing this weekend. Sniffle, sniffle. She's almost able to sit unsupported and is always so busy. She reaches for everything and uses a combination of rolling and scooting to get whatever she eyes. We now know to keep newspaper and plastic bags out of her reach. We know this is just the beginning. Once she starts crawling....look out!
We finally got her a highchair and she loves it. You can just tell by the look on her face that she thinks she is big stuff in that highchair! This week's experiment: sweet potatoes. At first, she liked them just about as much as her mom does, but we think she's warming up to them. It's funny to see her make a funny face at the first taste, then go back for seconds. It's like she just can't help herself.
6. November. 2007 Finally! Here are the pictures from camping and the first 2 solid food attempts. She will take cereal from her sitter, but only humors us with a couple bites before protesting. She prefers to nurse. Hopefully that will change because we look forward to watcing her try new foods. Marcus is especially eager to give her a taste of lemon.....
We are really enjoying this stage of her life. She's rolling like a pro and starting to scoot. We can see that it won't be long before we have to child-proof everything. Last night she got ahold of some newspaper under the coffee table. Sure, cereal she shuns but newspaper she eats! Crazy girl! She's very interested in anything Marcus or I have, especially if it is electronic. She loves cell phones, remotes, and the computer. The other day she actually threw a fit because I was trying to keep her from helping me type on the keyboard. I sat her on the floor so that I could finish....that did not go over well!
She loves to pet our cat Birki. It's so cute to watch her reach for him and he just comes right up to her and welcomes her lovins'. One of these days we'll get a picture of it!
29.October This weekend Marcus, his mom, my mom and I took Audrey to Boo at the Zoo. We're not sure she cared much for the animals. She was too busy people-watching. She loves to look around and take it all in. When we lay her down, she does a half sit-up and just stays like that....looking around. The girl is going to have abs of steel!
We've also added pictures of her in her jumperoo. She doesn't even give us a chance to turn the music on. As soon as we put her legs through the holes, she's bouncing! It's the funniest thing to watch. She's doing better with eating her cereal. We'll have those photos posted soon. Who knew something so small could make such a big mess!
20. October: Our little Sweet Pea is now 16 lbs! Nursing her is becoming quite the chore. She's nickeln' and dimen' me! At least she'll take 7-8 oz of formula a day. That helps give me a break. She's becoming more interested in playing in her crib than sleeping in it. Yesterday I put her down for a nap and when I checked on her, she had turned a complete 180 degrees in her crib. She was just having a grand ol' time. We have a feeling she's going to be a handful.....
17 Oct 2007: As you can see from the new pixs, Audrey's really growing. Last night she took her first bottle of formula. Mom needed a break! Tomorrow we'll attempt rice cereal. She's becoming a lot more active. She's figured out how to roll both directions and to jump in her jumperoo. She tries to mimick the elephant sounds in her jumperoo, too! We tried out her new bather and she loves it because she can kick and splash around in the water now.
She becoming very helpful with outfit and diaper changes, now. The other day she had a big blowout at the store and I had to change her in the back of my car. She grabbed the dirty diaper and wipes and started waving them around. La, la, la....oh, what fun that was! Lil' stinker!
3. October. 2007 Okay, so we finally added some new pictures. Last weekend we went camping.....I wouldn't recommend it this late in the season. There was ice on the inside of our camper windows. We bundled Audrey up in her bunting to keep her toasty. Once in her suit, she became completely catatonic. Only her eyes would move; but as soon as we unzipped it and freed her arms, she flailed them about and cooed. It was like Randy from A Christmas Story....."I can't put my arms down". She also went on a long 4-wheeler ride. Marcus and I doubled up on the 4-wheeler and I zipped her up in my jacket. She slept most of the way. What a little trooper!
We think she is almost ready to start eating some rice cereal. She watches our food and it takes quite a bit of milk in the morning to get her full. Maybe we'll attempt that in the next couple of weeks. She's really getting excited about her toys. She reaches for them, scoots to get them and then it's straight to the slobbery abyss. We think she'll have teeth soon. She soaks about 2 bibs a day now.
We took her to Kiddie Kandids for her 4 month pictures last week. She was just the happiest baby. The manager had to tell our photographer to quit taking photos of her. Audrey was so cooperative, she just wanted to keep taking pictures. Check back soon because we'll be posting those pictures and also some camping pictures very soon!
18.Sept.07: Another big milestone! Last night Audrey rolled over for the first time! We had her doing some "tummy time" and the next thing I knew, she was on her back. I think it surprised her, also! Her 4-month check-up was last Thursday. Another round of shots and a few tears. She now weighs 15lbs 1oz and is 24.25 inches. She's in the 50% for height and 80% for weight.
Last week she discovered that she could chew on her tongue with her mouth closed. She looks like an old man trying to eat without his "teeth" in! Our little turkey has also figured out how to scoot. Marcus had her sitting in her carseat and before he knew it, she had scooted down until her bottom was on the floor. Now we have to fasten her into her swing, bouncer, etc. She's a busy little girl, alright!
We will add more pics to the site in the next couple days. Enjoy!
SEPT 10: UPDATE. Well, we had quite a weekend. Little Audrey wasn't feeling well on Friday. During the last week she's only had a few messy diapers. She's also been nursing less and spitting up more. A couple times I had to change both our outfits because there was so much. This isn't normal for her. Late Friday, she started screaming in pain. I was concerned that she might have an obstruction or something. The hospital nurse recommended we bring her in. Wouldn't you know it, as we were sitting in the ER waiting to be seen, the little stinker fills her drawers! They took us back and weighed her ( 15 lbs!). They also did an abdomen xray and determined that although her bowel gas pattern looked normal, there was a LOT of it. Poor thing, no wonder she was screaming in pain. We're just glad it wasn't something more serious.
She's doing better now. In case my diet is the cause, I'm being careful about what I eat. There's not much else we can do besides comfort her and massage her belly. The girl has gas! What can I say, she's a Mitchell!
The next update will be after our 4 month appt. Let's hope this round of immunizations are easier on her than the last ones.
My goodness time is flying by! Audrey has her 4-month doctor's appointment next Thursday. We've enjoyed watching her grow everyday. Each stage is more fun than the last. Her personality is really starting to shine as she interacts with us more and more. This week she started laughing out loud. Nothing melts your heart like a baby laughing! She's playing more with her toys (and by playing, I mean gnawing and drooling on them)! We put her Jumperoo together this week. She loves it! She hasn't quite figured out how to bounce yet because her big toes barely reach the floor. However, she has figured out that by hitting at the toys and moving them, she can make the music and jungle noises play. Now I can get dishes washed while she plays.
She watched her first BSU game this week. She just loves to watch TV. She'll sit in her papa's lap and watch John Wayne movies with him. It's really cute!
This week we will be back at our breastfeeding meetings and I'll be able to track her weight gain better. Unofficially, she's 14lbs 6oz. We have a hard time remembering how small she used to be.
We'll have another update after her doctor's appt. Enjoy the new pictures!
It's hard to believe that Audrey is already 3 months old. Her personality is really starting to develop. She's always smiling and is the just the happiest baby. When we run errands, she sits in the back and makes cooing and vowel sounds. Who needs the radio? She's entertainment! We think she'll probably be one of those girls who starts talking.....and never quits!
She's showing more interest in her toys. She'll bat at the toys hanging from her bouncer and play gym as well as hold her rattles. However, her favorite toys are the burp rags her O'ma made. She grabs them and gnaws on them. She has lots of cute toys, but no, she prefers burp rags! Go figure!
Audrey is doing great at the sitter. It was a pretty smooth transition. Thank goodness she's taking the bottle well now! Audrey is sleeping through the night now. Sometimes I have to wake her at 4am to feed and start getting ready for work. All in all, my return to work has been easy on all of us. Our next goal is to transition her from the bassinet to her crib. I think that will be harder on us than on her. Her nursery is downstairs and it just seems so far away! But, we're putting our house on the market this week and need to get rid of unnecessary furniture and clutter (ie: the bassinet). We've outgrown this house, but have found a perfect house in a nearby subdivision. We're not sure what will happen, but we trust that the Lord will provide something for us.
Audrey now weighs 13 lbs 3 oz. She's almost out of her 0-3 month clothes, but the 3-6 are way too big. She's also between diaper sizes and has been having a lot of blow-outs lately. I had to give her 2 baths today! We went to our last breastfeeding meeting this week. I return to work on the 1st and won't be able to go anymore. Our good friend Mrs. Demster will be watching her the 3 days a week that I work. We are so excited that we don't have to put her in day care. We couldn't think of anyone we'd rather have watch her. What an answer to our prayers!
In preparation for my return to work, we've been working on getting her to take a bottle. That battle lasted several hours over several days. She's definately got that German stuborness down! We persevered and O'ma eventually triumphed. Now when she gives me fits over the bottle I just say, "Don't make me call the O'ma. She will make you drink this all gone!" That usually does the trick.
Audrey has reached a lot of milestones lately. Yesterday she giggled after I changed her diaper and she promptly refilled it. She's a comedian alright! She's also starting to grasp toys, shake them and put them to her mouth. She holds her head up really well and we've been working on tummy time exercises.
We'll keep you updated as she reaches more milestones.
Sorry this update is so late. There's not alot of time between feedings...I'm told that gets better. Audrey did wonderfully on our camping trip. Nights were chilly and the days got up into the 90's. We bundled her up at night and kept her out of the sun in the day. We also had a lake just a 5-minute walk from our campsite. There was usually a nice breeze there to cool us off a bit. Audrey didn't go in, but I did once and decided leeches weren't worth the cool down! Yuck! Our bird dog Sam, however, didn't seem to mind. He loved running and playing. Marcus got a little fishing time in. No big fish tales to tell, though.
We had a little excitement the first night. I felt pretty safe in our little camper, but at 4am, we were awakened by the sound of something big dragging thru our camp, knocking stuff over on it's way. Come to find out, our dog got his zipline caught around his crate. When he tried to get away from it, it followed him and he took off running, knocking over everything in his path. Amazingly, nobody else was awakened by the commotion. What if Sasquatch had run thru our camp?????
Audrey had her 2 month check-up this week. She now weights 12 lbs, 1 oz. She also got a series of shots and let out a lower lip-quivering cry. SO traumatic! We're over it now. As she grows, we can't believe how much she is changing day by day. It won't be long until she's hitting up her papa for money and the car keys!
Well, yesterday I packed up all her newborn-sized clothes. Our little one is growing up....sniffle, sniffle. We're leaving tomorrow on our first camping trip with sweet pea. We plan on being gone 7-8 days. This should be fun! We'll have lots of pictures to share when we get back!
As of today, Audrey is 10 lbs, 2oz. She no longer fits in newborn diapers and cleaning between all her little rolls has become a challenge! Yesterday I got a genuine smile out of her! We went to Kiddie Kandids yesterday to get her pics done. We were there forever! We had to stop in the middle of the photo session to feed her because she was trying to eat the poor camera woman's hand! Besides that, she did a good job.
Nights are getting better. She's been going about 3-4 hours between feedings. She's figured out that baths aren't all that bad. In fact, I think she has diaper "blow-outs" on purpose so that she gets more baths....just a theory!
Our little sweetpea has passed her birth weight. Last weigh-in was 8lbs 4oz. She must be going through a growth spurt because she's ALWAYS hungry. Eat, sleep, poop, repeat. We couldn't have asked for a better baby. She only cries when we miss her hunger cues. Otherwise, she is the most content baby. We're enjoying all the faces and the little noises she makes. We just love her!
I woke up on May 8th and got ready for work as usual, but I wasn't feeling well and called in sick by 8am. I was trying to tough it out at home, but I decided to call Marcus and have him come home from work. I'm glad I did. When we got to the hospital at 12:30, I was 95% effaced and dialated to 7cm. They took their sweet time getting us into a labor room by 2:00. At 3:26pm, our precious little girl made her grand entrance.
We couldn't have asked for a better labor, delivery, and baby. God has been good to us and we are truely thankful for all of his provision in our lives.
Well, not much news to report from today's visit. Just slightly more dialated. He says that first pregnancies, on average, go 5 days past their due date. In other words, I may still be pregnant on Mother's Day. : ( At least we're already ready for her when she decides to come. We're just getting anxious to hold her and see what she looks like.
There's been a little progress since my last doctor visit. I'm now 75% effaced and dialated 1-2cm. She still hasn't dropped yet, so I'm not holding my breath. Marcus and I have been busy installing carseats and putting the finishing touches on the nursery. He calls it "nesting". I call it "being organized". My belly sure is feeling tight these days! I'm not sure I can stretch any further. Also, my "timer" (belly button) is really starting to stick out. Does that mean this turkey is done????
