Update as of June 2, 2005  Well, we had another sonogram today to check Sophie's fluids and all was well.  She was measuring 7lb 4oz by the sonogram so that is good.  She has a lot of hair and you could see it waving on the sonogram, that was neat.  And if all goes well she will be here no later than June 8th.  I will be admitted to the hospital on Tuesday night and be induced Wednesday morning.  Doc said that all the inductions he has had scheduled for the last five days were cancelled due to all the beds being taken by women who had gone into labor on their own so there is a good chance that it will be cancelled.  But, if I don't hear from him I am to be at the hospital Tuesday night between 5 and 6 and then we will meet our daughter Wednesday.  I am nervous but excited.  I still feel like there's a good chance I could go into labor on my own before then but there is no telling.  I would rather go on my own because I hear that inducing causes longer and more painful labors but hopefully not.  Since the longest labor I have had so far is four hours maybe that is all it will be.  We'll see...I guess the next time I post on here I will be posting a picture of a beautiful baby girl named Sophie and hopefully a short birth story.  Keep looking and we really appreicate your care and interest in our story.  Big hugs to everyone!

May 24, 2005  Ethel has joined us.  She was born at 12:10am after 19hours of labor.  And I know, we should call her by her name now...McKinley Angelia Miles.  But come on, be honest...she'll always be Ethel.  Anyway, Kristy and Aaron had a very long day but it was all worth it in the end.  She came into this world weighing 7lb 13oz and she was 20 inches long.  She looks just like her Mama too!

Update as of May13, 2005:  Not a lot going on.  I have gained TWO pounds in the last week but that is about it.  My cervix is thinning but I am not dilated any.  He said he could probably get a fingertip but that it would just piss me off so I told him not to do that.  He said that it could be any time from here on out.  He also made a comment to the effect of "I thought you said you weren't having a big baby?"  This leads me to believe that she is quite a chunk.  He said he didn't think she would be as big as Drake but that doesn't give me a lot of comfort since Drake was 9lb 7oz.  Does this mean she will be 9lb 5oz???  I am hoping it means she will be a normal sized 7 or 8 pound baby.  That would be just great with me!  Anyway, big hugs til next week.

Christy finally had her baby!!!  He was born May 10th and he was 7 pounds 5 ounces.  She ended up having to have a c-section due to mecomium in the water but it turns out that was the right thing to do since the cord was wrapped around his neck.  She was released from the hospital on Saturday, May 14 and they are doing fine.  He is such a doll!!  He is really good natured too.  He only cries when he is hungry or needs to be changed and he even slept six and a half hours last night (May 16) so that is great.  She may just luck out and have a baby that sleeps through the night at two weeks.  Anyway, I am very proud of her and happy for her.  Now if I can just get his girlfriend to come out...

Update:  As of Friday, May 6th Sophie now weighs approximately 5lb 14oz.  She is not as big as we had thought so she will not be scheduled.  That means it could be anytime between now and June 7th or so.  I am thinking it will probably be the last week of May but hey, I have been wrong about everything else so far so who knows.  I thought for sure at least ONE of the Christy/Kristy's would have had their baby by now but no such luck.  I think I am more ready for their babies to be here than they are.

I have gained one pound since my last visit so that brings me to a grand total of 19lbs which isn't too bad.  But now is the true test.  They say the baby alone will gain between 1/2-1lb per week from here on out.  Let's hope it's 1/2 or she'll be bigger than Drake was.  Anyway, I am sure I will start packing on the pounds now.  Considering I pretty much eat whatever I want (or whatever she wants) I can't really expect anything less.  I can never turn down Olive Garden and have really been craving it lately.  Anyway, my cervix is softening but nothing is happening other than that.  I am not dilating yet.  I don't expect I will for a few more weeks.

I will be going back every Friday from here on out so I will try to post an update no later than every Monday.  Thanks for caring enough to stay updated, we appreciate it.

-Big Hugs to Everyone

Update:  April 24, 2005

Well we went to the doctor on Friday and everything looks good.  I have to drink between 120-144 ounces of water a day to reduce the swelling in my legs and feet but my blood pressure is good so no worries.  She is growing well although I have only gained one pound since the 5th.  We go back on May 6th at 2pm for a sonogram to see how big she is and find out if he is going to schedule her or let her come on her own.  I am actually hoping that he schedules her because that will make it easier to ensure that Debbie, Tom and Derek can get here.  And if she is scheduled I would like to try to get my Dad down here as well.  But if not that is ok too.

I am getting very anxious for SOMEONE to have a baby.  Both Christy and Kristy should be any time now.  Their cervix has thinned but neither have dilated.  I am curious to see how much alike, if any, that Sophie and Ethel look.  I am also curious to see the likeness of the sonogram pictures.

We went yesterday to get a family picture taken and let me tell you, I have never felt so RAPED in all my life.  They wanted $3465 and that didn't even include all the poses.  John's jaw just dropped and I laughed so hard I had tears streaming down my face.  I couldn't stop laughing.  That was the funniest thing I have heard in a long time.  Needless to say we didn't get many pictures.  There was one of John and the boys that I really like a lot.  I will have to wait until I am not eight months pregnant to get one of me with the boys that I like.  I just felt like I was looking at someone who ate Julie and not actually looking at Julie.

Well, that's enough for today.  I will post more when I know more.

Baby Sophie Update: April 6, 2005

Well, I went to the doctor yesterday and all is going well. I have gained six pounds in the last month and that brings me to a grand total of 17 pounds. Because Drake was so large Dr. Howell is going to do an ultrasound at 36 weeks to check Sophie's size. At that time we will either proceed as usual or we will schedule a delivery date. Dr. Howell doesn't want her to get too large and I certainly don't. She is measuring a week ahead consistently so there is a good chance that we will have to schedule.

I am getting excited because Christy Brown is due in less than a month with her baby boy and Kristy Miles is due just two weeks after her. It is going to be a busy month with baby showers and getting things ready for baby.

We have pretty much finished the nursery. I will get pictures up as soon as I can. Her room is in sage green and pink. We ended up doing it completely different than we had planned but I think it turned out great. And thank you Paul Johnson for helping us with it, we really appreciate it!

Well, I am sure everyone will mention the fact that there are no pictures of me or my side of the family (with the exception of baby Ashley) on here but that is simply because I didn't have any on my computer. I will put them up as soon as I get them. I will let you know as soon as something exciting happens and keep you posted. I wish everyone well and send hugs and kisses to each.

-Julie
