My father was from Poland and I know this name is universal and people cannot wrap theri minds around it being unusual. Lots of achieving Bobers though ( I grew up thinking I was the only Bober in the world..pre internet) my favourite is a character in a book by Bernard Malamud (a great read if you can get hold of it)The Assistant (1957) was Malamud’s second novel From the first page Malamud throws us into real life, through Morris Bober, Jewish grocer in New York whose store isn’t doing too well. My great-grandfather's neighbors were Bobers, spoke German, but no one knew where, how, when, etc. The property is still called the "Bober Place".Our German cousins (Westphalia) have seen the house he built and they think that it was built on the Swiss plan.If you have any information on Adolf Bober (Born: 1-29-1849 * Died: 7-02-1925). He is recorded in the 1870 Texas census. We believe that he arrived in Texas in the mid 1860s. Don't know if he came from another state or arrived through the Galveston coast.
