I've really been enjoying preschool lately. It's been a few weeks and I've gotten pretty familiar with my school and all the people in my class. I ask to go to preschool even on non-school days. I've made so many cute crafts and pieces of artwork for daddy to adorn his office with. Daddy's office has truly been transformed from a place of work into a full-fledged kiddie art gallery. In science we are taking care of tadpoles, and will be monitoring their growth as they develop into frogs. We are also planting vegetables, so that will be a fun learning activity to keep up with as the school year goes on. My favorite part of the playground is the zip line, as well as visiting with the cute bunnies caged outside nearby.
Now for soccer. I had my first practice yesterday evening and it was such a blast! I'm an official Knight! All mommy needs now is a minivan and she will be a bona fide soccer mom. Even though a lot of the other kids are significantly older (close to 5 years) I am able to keep up with them no problem! During the meeting (led by someone I'm particularly fond of) we practiced dribbling the ball down the field, and then stopping the ball with our feet. We then did some real scrimmage where our team was divided into two groups, and we played against each other. I really caught onto the competitive spirit, chasing after the ball as it got kicked back and forth across the field, and not at all afraid to insert myself into the mix of kids and go after the ball. At one point during our "game," I interrupted daddy to tell him I wanted water. So daddy told me to run and get mommy. As daddy was about to continue leading the rest of the team, another boy piped in with, "I want water, too." Then, like a chain reaction, all the other kids started saying they wanted water, too. So the whole practice paused for a water break (even though we just had one). And then at another point during practice, we were in the middle of an intense lesson about soccer rules when all of the sudden...a plane flew by overhead. There went the lesson! We all had to stop to look, point, and wave at the plane. So, it is pretty funny how easily distracted we are at this age. But it's totally cute, and we are all about having fun right now. Our first game is this Saturday and score will not even be kept. Go Knights!! :-)

Preschool orientation was yesterday and it was such a blast! We had already stopped by the school/church a couple of times over the summer to jumpstart the familiarization process, so orientation was less about checking out the place and more about meeting my teachers and classmates for the first time. I have 6 teachers total: my main teacher, the teaching assistant, a science teacher, art teacher, cooking instructor, and, last but not least, the dance, chapel, and movement teacher. All of them are incredibly nice ladies who, undoubtedly, are already in love with me. :) Although every time mommy or daddy asked me to say "hello" to one of them, I would retort, "no!" and look the other way. Oh, toddlers... :)
Same for my classmates -- we all played it cool on this first day. There are ten other tots in my class and we're all within months of each other in age. We stuck to exploring the toys, but would discretely size each other up out of the corners of our eyes while we played. Things actually got a little intense with one other preschooler in particular. We both went over to the chalkboard in our classroom at the same time, and while she got her hands on the chalk first, I was able to get the eraser first. And then a "chalk-off" ensued. She would scribble something, and then I would quickly erase it! She would scribble something else, but before she even took her chalk off the board, her artwork was gone! We went back and forth, tuning out our parents who were trying to broker peace. It's tough to say who won this little competition, but, just like rock cover paper, erasers wipe away chalk, so I think I was the victor here.
There are also lots of creatures! We have pet bunnies in the back outside, and in the science room there are geckos, lizards, and butterflies. Needless to say, I'm already fond of the cooking room, where we'll be baking and cooking up stuff every week. We will definitely be packing in a ton of activity in a short period of time. Preschool's just three hours, 2 mornings a week, but our agenda's so packed. Hopefully after experiencing all this with my classmates, we will start saying "hello" to each other and letting each other take turns on the chalkboard. :) So we are super excited about this new chapter in my life. The only negative is that snack time consists of processed foods. Ggrrrrrr.... We'll have to do something about that! Oh yeah, and it's a little on the early side, but I suppose that's something we can compromise on. :)
Stay tuned for stories on my upcoming soccer adventures...daddy's gonna be my coach!

Shew, looks like I missed June altogether on here! Blogging's tough in the summer. If I'm not on a trip somewhere, I'm in the pool. If I'm not in the pool, I'm probably at the park. If I'm not at the park...okay, you get the picture. Let's recap, shall we? I've spent a lot of time lately at "gwandma's" house in Melbourne and that has truly been the highlight of my summer so far. I can't get enough of Sammy, Jen, grandma, and grandpa. I address them all by their real names now. Mommy, daddy, and I did have a lot of fun somewhere else too though -- during our vacation to Seaside! We spent five days at this house that was just a block away from the pristine blue waters and white sand of Seaside Beach and it was so much fun! We rode our bikes everywhere, hit up the beach several times, visited a recreation place in Destin that had rides for me to go on, and I even painted my own piece of pottery! Pictures will, of course, follow shortly. :)
I'm currently in the summer session of my gymnastics class and it's going really well. I'm becoming more adventurous, more willing to try new movements, such as cartwheels, flips around the bars, and am even attempting splits! I wrapped up my first swimming lesson of this summer a couple of weeks ago and I've made a lot of progress compared to last year. Right now I am able to jump in the water and then bring myself to the surface without any assistance. And I can sort of swim several feet across the water. Daddy does this thing with me where I will stand on the steps and he stands in front of me about ten or so feet away. When he says, "go!" I lunge forward and splash and kick my way over to him. It's quite a sight, but it's a good start to learning how to really swim! My second swimming lesson of the season starts up toward the end of the month, and I've been getting a lot of practice at the pool in between sessions!
We just received some great news about the fall. Looks like I will be able to play soccer on the 3 and 4 year old team after all! There was a lot of uncertainty about this for awhile because I am technically too young to be on the team. You have to be at least 3 years old by the season's start (in September) and I will not turn 3 until the season's about over! The coach, thankfully, waived this rule on the basis of my good looks. Just kidding about the good looks but he did make an exception for me (although I'm sure my dazzling smile didn't exactly hurt things.). Now we'll just have to see whether I actually "play" soccer or just chase butterflies all season. :)
Let's see, what else? Oh yeah, we can't forget about the education front. I don't know when I'll make it back to the blog, so I'm trying to cover all the bases here! My sentences are getting longer and more complex every week. My most oft-repeated phrases include:
"No, I don't need help, I can do it by by myself."
"I can't wait to go to gwandma's house in a couple of weeks."
"Mommy, stop singing!"
I am a total book worm. My favorite book series right now is the Little Critter books by Mercer Mayer. Mommy and daddy said they read those when they were kids, too! Once the obsession took hold a few months ago, we cleaned out the Critter stashes in almost every library in town. I now have most of them close to being memorized. Mommy or daddy will go to read me one of them and I will cut in and start saying each line myself. It appears that I am reading the books, but of course I am really just reciting them. We do read many other books, too, and I have many others completely or partially committed to memory. In terms of future education, we're wondering if this means I will be an audial learner or if I just have a good memory, or both.
We're still playing around with Spanish. The secondary language skill is something that we do only through musical CDs in the car. My capacity to sit and focus on things is already at its peak from spending time on numbers, English, etc. each morning, and my attention span does not have room for anything more! I always ask for the CD (it's
this one ) to be put on when we ride in the car so apparently I enjoy listening to it. My actual Spanish speaking abilities though are limited to saying a few numbers and a couple of random words. We might push it more in the future but if all I get out of Spanish right now is exposure to another culture, then that alone is well worth the headaches mommy and daddy get from listening to same kiddie songs over and over and over... :)
Anyway, that's all for now on my update. I'll try to check back soon. Kisses and hugs!

Mommy and I stepped out this evening for a stroll just as the sky was starting to darken and shortly before I was due in bed. Those with little boys know that this is when the frogs come out to play, and we were on a mission to spot as many as we could (I was also on a mission to touch as many frogs as I could, but I didn't tell mommy that). The best part of the walk, however, was not the "fwogs," as I call them, nor was listening to the "ri'it, ri'it" sounds they make, as I like to mimic. It was this cute snippet of our conversation:
Mommy: Today is a special day. Do you know why today is special?
Me: No, mommy.
Mommy: Today is mommy and daddy's anniversary.
Me: Oh...
Me: Me too! Mine and daddy's too!
Mommy: Oh, it's you and daddy's anniversary, too?!
Me: Yeah, mommy.
