Stories

9/26/06-  After lunch, I took the boys over to the Nickajack Lake and Park right by us.  It was a beautiful day and we had a good time.  I remembered my camera this time, as you can tell.  I just love watching them play and explore.  And the scenery there with the huge lake is just gorgeous.

9/25/06-  Oooo!  It's so pretty!  I had some errands to run and it was around lunch time, so we went to Pizza Hut- Caleb's favorite!  He loves their breadsticks and sauce and also their pepperoni pizza.  I had a coupon for the buffet (which is what we usually get) and Caleb was free, so it was a nice treat.  After lunch, I got on the interstate and headed up toward Monteagle mountain.  I wanted to check out a couple parks up there and I'm glad I did.  We had so much fun!  We found this great park right in Monteagle that had a great playground.  They had a bunch of tires halfway in the ground, so Daniel was able to stand and hold on to them.  They had tire swings, which Caleb loved, and just a bunch of fun things.  And, of course, I forgot my camera!  But, Caleb says he wants to go back to this park, so I'll bring it next time.

On the way home, I went the back way toward Tracy City, so I could just take Hwy. 41 down into Jasper.  On the way, I stopped at this Grundy Lakes State Park.  The boys were both asleep by this point, but wow, what a great park!!!  I definitely want to go back to that one, too.  They had a lots of different picnic areas and play areas, and then the views of the lakes were beautiful.

I knew I'd be passing the Foster Falls park on the way home, so I pulled in there to see if the waterfall had any water this time (that's the one we went to with TJ and there wasn't any water falling- it was dried up!).  Well, there was a trickle this time, but that was about it!

9/23/06-  Today we went to our neighbor's little boy's birthday party.  He turned 2 and she asked us to come, so Caleb and the little boy could play together.  The party was at McDonald's so they had fun playing on the play area inside.  It was so nice of her to invite us and we got to know them even better.  They are really nice neighbors.

After the party, we worked on cleaning the downstairs of the church building and Aaron mowed outside.  Then, Aaron and Caleb went to the Chattanooga Mocs football game and Daniel and I went to Target to pick up a few things we needed.  It was a fun day!

9/22/06-  Today the boys and I went to Alabama to spend the day with Uncle Charles and Aunt Vernita Goodall, Nana and Papa, and Granny, Tipton and Anita.  We had a fabulous day and lots of fun.  We all met at the bookstore in Athens, AL, where Vernita works.  Granny got a cute bible story book for the boys.  Then, we went to lunch at a Catfish Cabin, which was really good.  After lunch, we headed over to Hartselle, where Charles and Vernita live, and the boys took naps, along with some of the adults, and we had a nice, relaxing afternoon.  Charles has a 4-wheeler, so my dad and I rode around on that.  There's a trail across the street from their house, so Dad took me over there on it.  It was so fun!  I just love the thrill of the ride on a 4-wheeler.  After the boys napped, Caleb rode with Papa and had so much fun.  He went once and then ran into to tell Nana she needed to ride.  Then, Caleb went again, and the second time, he said, "go faster, Papa!"  It was so cute to watch him ride.  I have a video clip that I need to post (surprise, surprise!).

We had a great dinner and enjoyed visiting together.  I got on the road to head back around 9:00pm.  They had told me earlier in the week that I could spend the night, but I knew we had a lot going on Saturday, and I needed to get back.  Daniel fell asleep right away, and Caleb almost did, but I told him about seeing the rocket and spaceship in Huntsville, so he stayed awake to see that as we passed by on I-565.  He picked out a book at the library a few weeks ago about spaceships and rockets, so he's really interested in them right now.  We hope to go there to the Space Museum in Huntsville in a few weeks, when Aaron is on fall break.

9/21/06-  I am loving this nice weather we are having!!!  I love it when the temperature is in the 70s.  It's okay to wear long sleeves or short sleeves and it just feels great.  The boys and I went to 2 parks today, up near Whitwell and brought a picnic.  We all had a great time playing and running around (well, Caleb and I ran, Daniel got pushed in the stroller!).  We all swang on the swings and just enjoyed God's beauty outside.  I'm hoping to take them to more parks these next few weeks, because the weather will be perfect!

9/20/06-  We made it to story hour this morning and had a great time.  This week's theme was frogs.  The stories were about frogs and they did some little fingerplays about frogs and the craft was a frog puppet- very cute!  Last week, they handed out "listening log" sheets, so parents can write down what books the parents read and the kids listen to.  Caleb picked out 5 books, so we wrote down all 5 in his listening log.  So today, he got to get something out of the treasure chest, and he was so excited.  He picked a little toy whistle (of all things!) and so did several of the other kids, so it was probably the loudest library there for a while!  I told Caleb to put his in his pocket and he could blow it outside on the way to the van.  The other parents in the library, for some reason, did not tell their children to do the same.  I thought the librarian was going to scream!

We headed home and had lunch and then got everything ready to take for church, because I needed to get over to Chattanooga for a dentist appointment.  The boys napped on the way, which was good, and Aaron met me there at the dentist office.  Our dentist is just a fun guy.  He went to Boyd Buchannon (private school in Chattanooga) so ever since Aaron coached at Whitwell and Whitwell beat Boyd in football in 2001, they've gone back and forth teasing each other.  He always treats us really good and his assistant, Kristi, who usually does our teeth, is very sweet and fun to talk with.  As we were walking towards the door, the dentist opened the door for us (he saw us coming) and greeted us and said, "oh, let me open the door for this new assistant principal we have coming in!"  It was so funny!  Aaron watched the boys in the waiting area and Kristi took me back.  I could hear the boys from time to time; they were being really good.  If I heard them, it was because they were laughing and they sounded so sweet.

We got a bite to eat at an inexpensive Italian place (Proni's) near the church building that Aaron had been to before.  It was good and all of us ate for only $15!   Everything worked out well.

9/19/06-  Today we had Nana and Papa, Granny and Uncle Tipton, and Uncle Charles and Aunt Vernita and Aunt Anita over for the day.  Granny, Tip, and Anita flew to Tennessee yesterday, so they all came over for the day and we had a great time.  Caleb was so excited about them coming.  He asked me all morning, "are they here yet?"  After we had lunch, we went outside and Caleb showed them how he drives his Gator.  They all had fun watching him.  He's doing really well with driving it and steering it now, so I took the screw out and moved it so he can switch it into 2nd gear now and go, what he calls, "super fast!"  Daniel just watched him go and kept leaping and waving his arms like, "hey, Caleb!  Let me ride!"  I know it won't be long before both of them are in that Gator together.

It was such a beautiful day.  The sun was shining and it wasn't hot at all.  There was a nice breeze.  We just got chairs and sat outside on the driveway and talked and watched Caleb play.  He got out tennis rackets and played tennis with Papa and Tipton.  Then he got out his little golf set and played golf.  Then he got out his tee ball set and played that.  He just played everything!  It was so cute to watch him.  Daniel took turns sitting with Granny and Nana and he had fun watching Caleb play.  He held a little soft basketball and whenever he dropped it, Caleb would stop what he was doing and run get it for him.  What a sweet brother!

They took good naps and we had a good dinner.  It was a great evening.  We all just relaxed and talked and enjoyed each others company.  Caleb said the prayer before lunch and dinner and they were such sweet prayers:

"Dear God, thank you for Mommy, Daddy, and Daniel, and thank you for everyone safely get here, and thank you they safely get here to our house, and thank you for our many, many blessings, and thank you for the pretty day, God, in Jesus name, Amen."

I love hearing him say "our many many blessings."  The way he says "blessings" is so precious.  He just started that in the last week.  I'm glad he's gotten over being afraid to say prayers when we have a big group over.  He just amazes me with the things he does.

I'm glad everyone was able to come.  It was Granny's first time (and Tipton and Anita's) to come to our house, so we were excited about that, and Charles and Vernita had not been in a while, so they were excited to see the new things done on our house.  It was just a great day!

9/17/06-  Aaron preached this morning at North Terrace, since our preacher was out of town.  One of our members offered for Caleb to sit with them, so I could go out with Daniel easily.  I was so thankful, because I knew I'd probably have to take Daniel out to rock him to sleep.  When he was itty bitty, we used to be able to rock him right there while we were sitting in the pew, and he would go to sleep, especially with Aaron.  But, he is so squirmy now, he won't do it unless we stand up and rock him in the back.  Caleb was the same exact way, but as he got older, he outgrew that and he would just fall asleep in our arms and I could just lay him down on the pew once I knew he was truly asleep.  I'm sure Daniel will get to that point.

Caleb was pretty good with the people he sat with.  They were sitting right behind us, so I could see and hear every move he made.  When we were singing, I could hear him tell the lady, "that says God!  That says Jesus! There's 'to'!"  as he pointed to each word he recognized.  The thing is I could hear him saying these things while everyone is singing!  Little stinker.  Then, during Aaron's sermon, Aaron was making a point and comparing it to a basketball game scenario (imagine that!) and Aaron said, "it's like the buzzer rang and you hear the whistle blow and you get to shoot 2 more times!"  All the sudden, I heard Caleb, and I couldn't tell if he was laughing or crying.  It was loud, it was just the was he was breathing loudly.  I turned around and saw that sweet little face, smiling from ear to ear, scrunched nose, and squinted eyes.  He was laughing at what his daddy was saying, but trying to do it quietly.  The lady told me afterwards that it was so cute; he was trying to laugh so quietly that he turned into her so he would be soft.  She got a kick out of that!  She also told me afterwards that he went to put his pen on his ear (resting on the top) and he couldn't get it just right on there, so he whispered, "it's not working!!"  Oh, Caleb, you are too much!

We went to the Watkins house for lunch and had a great time.  The boys both enjoyed playing.  Daniel just crawled everywhere and Hannah had so much fun playing with him.  I love the sounds that he makes when he's crawling and the big smile he was on his face.   It's like he's saying, "look at me!  I'm doing it!  I can get everywhere!"

Daniel ate so great.  I had brought a little jar of sweet potatoes, but we also tore up pieces of food and put them on his tray and he just gobbled them up.  He ate pork, green beens, roll, carrots.  I love watching him pick up his food and put it in his mouth.  We had a good afternoon and enjoyed spending the afternoon together.

9/16/06-  The boys got to spend the day with Daddy today and they had so much fun.  I went grocery shopping in the morning and then to Chattanooga in the afternoon for a ladies get-together.  When I came home from shopping in the morning, Caleb and Aaron were outside playing tennis.  It is so cute to watch Caleb hold that big racket!  He is so fun to watch.  He really does a good job and his eye/hand coordination is very good.  Aaron says its the best work out to play tennis with him, because Caleb just wacks that ball everywhere!  Caleb adores his daddy and looks forward to him coming home each day and loves Saturdays like this where they just play together all day.

They were also charging Caleb's John Deere Gator, because it was slowing down.  Caleb was excited to show me and tell me that it was charging.  He is such a special little boy and I love him so much!

When I came home from Chattanooga in the evening, Aaron and the boys were playing down stairs in the family room.  They were just having a great time.  Daniel was crawling around everywhere, trying to do everything that they were doing.  He is really getting around and you can tell he wants to be doing what Caleb is doing.  It's so cute to watch him!  Aaron is so great with them; I appreciate him so much.

9/15/06-  Well, Daniel can get into the sitting position by himself now!  He's been doing it the last few days, like when he's pulling all of the books out of his little book shelf.  He'll be on his belly, and then pull up onto his knees and sit.  Well, Grandpa Collins had slept in Caleb's bed, so Caleb slept in Daniel's room on the big bed.  I heard Daniel, and the next thing I knew, Caleb was running in our room to tell me that Daniel was sitting up in his crib.  Caleb was so excited.  I think it's so cute how he gets so excited about Daniel's accomplishments.  Sure enough, Daniel was sitting up in his crib, just smiling away...but ready to eat!  It's always exciting for me to see the new things they do.  Daniel has started doing so many things in just the last month: 2 teeth, clapping, giving 5, crawling, trying to pull-up, and now getting into that sitting position on his own.  So sweet...

9/14/06-  Busy morning.  We ran to Wal-mart to get the oil changed, fill a prescription, get a few items, and then headed over to my school to return a cup to Lisa.  I took the boys to the Paradise Playground before we went to the school, because I knew Lisa would have a break at 11:15am.  Caleb had fun playing at the park and then we went over the school and he got to see Mrs. Kim in the office.  He loves Mrs. Kim and Mrs. Kim just loves kids and babies.  She was so excited to see the boys.  Caleb sang his "Life is a Highway" song, and she loved it, so of course, he got a treat from her special drawer.  Well, then everyone who came into the office for the next 10 minutes, she asked him to sing the song for them.  If he knew the teacher, he sang it for them.  Mr. Lofty came in, and he knew him, so he sang it.  Mrs. Powers came in (the mom of his friend Hunter), and he sang it for her.  Then, Mr. Mathis came in, the man who is taking my place this year.  He wasn't to sure about him.  Well, then he offered Caleb a quarter if he sang it, and he sang right away!  Little stinker.

We ran Lorence's cup down to Lisa in the gym.  Caleb had fun running around the gym and hearing himself echo.  We stayed for only a little bit, because we needed to get home and have lunch and get naps, because someone was coming to visit later...

Grandpa Collins!!  He had another truck to deliver up this way, so the boys were excited to see him.  Aaron had his class tonight, unfortunately, but the boys and I followed him over to Winchester where he had to deliver the truck and then he took us out to eat.  Caleb wanted to go to Pizza Hut, so we went into the one on Monteagle mountain.  We walked in around 7:20pm and there were only a few people there.  The lady asked us how many and we said 4 and we'll need a highchair.  Then she said it would be about 35 to 40 minutes, because she just took a big to-go order.  We couldn't believe it!  There was no way we could wait until 8pm to eat.  So we went next door to the Smoke house.  Caleb was disappointed, but he got excited when he saw the John Deere stuff in the Smoke house.  We had a good dinner and then headed back home to Aaron.  Everything worked out well and we had a good little visit.

9/13/06-  Storytime at the library today!!  YAY!!  Caleb was very excited this week and he was so cute to watch.  He said hello to Mrs. Carolyn, the lady who does storyhour, and got a cushion to sit on, and just waited for storyhour to begin.  The other moms and I sat in the back and I rocked Daniel to sleep again.  This week's theme was monkeys and the books she read were different versions of the "5 little monkeys."  They also did different fingerplays about 5 little monkeys.  After each story and fingerplay, Caleb would turn around and look at me and give me a "thumbs up," letting me know he was doing great and having a good time this week.  I was so glad.  He was just so cute to watch.  He really sits well during the story; he doesn't move around and act distracted.  I know a lot of that has to do with his time with DeeDee and CeeCee at daycare.  They would do stories and really taught them how to sit quietly during the stories and circle time.  Thanks DeeDee and CeeCee!!  This week, the kids made a craft.  They made little monkey hat/headbands.  That's what Caleb and Daniel are wearing in the big picture on the front page.  It was cute:  all the kids got in a circle, and then the parents got behind them, and they handed out all of the items to make the craft in a little lunch paper bag.  There was a pair of safety scissors, a little safety stapler, and a glue stick in each bag, along with the parts for the craft.  The big pieces were already cut, but we had to cut the nose and glue it and staple the band to make it fit around their head.  She had a few extra bags, so she gave me one to make for Daniel.  Caleb really enjoyed the project and was excited to get his stamp and coloring sheet at the end.  He had a GREAT time this week.

9/12/06-  Daniel is trying to get himself into a sitting position on his own.  You can tell he's so close.  He's really strengthening his abdominal muscles and working hard to get up into the sitting position.  He gets lots of practice with Caleb around, because Caleb wants to keep hugging him and Daniel ends up falling back, so he is continuously trying to get back into the sitting position!

We left for home after lunch so the boys would take their afternoon nap in the van.  We said goodbye to TJ.  It had been a good visit with him.  He really enjoyed playing with both of the boys.  We had a good ride home and the boys did great.  It was nice to get back home to Aaron...

9/11/06-  The boys and I decided to stay another day and leave Tuesday afternoon.  It has been a while since we've been up there and Mom and Dad had been entertaining so much, I knew they'd enjoy just playing with the boys.  We played outside some and then played a lot of games inside.  Caleb loves playing checkers and Chinese checkers.  He's so cute and he seems to understand how to play; we just guide him along the way and remind him of the rules of the game.  Daniel had fun crawling all around and playing peekaboo around the coffee table in their bonus room.  Mom had bought some blocks and other toys for them, to keep there at their house, and both boys had so much fun.  I'm glad we stayed another day...

9/10/06-  We spent the night last night at Nana and Papa's and so did Uncle Matt and Uncle TJ.  The boys slept great last night- yesterday was a big day and I know they were worn out!  Daniel slept until almost 8am.  Nana, Papa, Caleb, and I were having breakfast while the 3 other boys were sleeping (TJ, Matt, and Daniel) and all of the sudden we looked up on the balcony, and Daniel was standing there, holding on to the the long railing!  Matt heard him up, so he put him out there in the hall and stood him up holding the railing, making it look like Daniel just "walked" out there by himself.  It was so cute!  He woke up in such a great mood- his happy, smiling self!

We headed to church and when we got there, a woman saw Caleb and asked how old he was, and I told her 3.  She said that he would be in her class, so she would come around and get him after the song and prayer in the auditorium.  Well, when we were visiting there over the summer, these other 2 ladies taught Caleb's Bible class, and they just fell in love with him, and he became very attached to them.  So, when this woman came around to get Caleb, these other 2 ladies came over and said, "well, hi, Mr. Caleb!" and then they told the woman, "Caleb comes with us to our class."  It was so funny!  I think the class upstairs that this other woman taught is for 2 and 3 year olds, and she just thought since he was three, he would fit in better with that group.  But, these other ladies teach a 3 and 4 year old class, and they know Caleb, so they like him to go to their class.  He taught them the song to know the books of the Old Testament, so they just love hearing him sing it.  One of the ladies after church told me that they've been working on saying prayers in class and praying for all of the students in the class.  She was amazed, because even though Caleb was there one other time over the summer, he still said a prayer and he remembered everyone's names in the class, but one!  He remembered EVERYONE elses' names!  I was even impressed.

After evening services, Mom and Dad had some people over from church.  They had quite a bit of food leftover from yesterday's gathering, and they were wanting to start having people over now that the house is pretty well setup.  It was good to meet some more of the people there and get to know them better and Mom and Dad really enjoyed entertaining.  It's so nice that they are only 10 minutes from the church building now.  They've never really been able to entertain, because they've always been almost an hour away.  One of the families that they invited have a little boy who is Caleb's age.  Caleb was so excited about him coming over, that during church, he kept turning around to see him.  Then, as soon as the "amen" was said, he turned around and said, "Damon, you're coming to my Nana and Papa's tonight!  Isn't that great!!?"  They had a good time playing together.  His parents are farmers, so they have all sorts of tractors and the little boy's room is done in a John Deere theme.  They told Caleb he'll have to come over next time.  I know he'll love that...

9/9/06-  Well, we all slept in this morning, including the boys!  Aaron left early for his Saturday class for his EDS degree, but the boys slept until almost 8am. We had breakfast quickly, because I wanted to try to get on the road around 9:30am.  I had everything packed, but then we needed to get TJ up and ready.  TJ was so funny- he got Caleb to help him pack up his things.  We got on the road by 10am, which wasn't too bad.  We got to Mom and Dad's and as we pulled on their street, TJ could see all of the family at the end of their driveway with posters and flags, waving and cheering.  He sure didn't expect that!  It was neat to see so much family.

Mom and Dad's house looks great!  They've done a lot to it since we were there last.  We had a nice barbeque outside on their patio.  My cousin Amy and her husband, Paul, just got a new little puppy, and they brought it.  Caleb had so much fun playing with it and walking it in the backyard.  I have a cute video of him walking the dog that I need to post.  ( I have A LOT of videos I need to post!)

The boys took good naps and then got to spend more time with everyone when the got up.  It was just a GREAT day.  Mom and Dad got Caleb (and Daniel) one of those big play tables with the trundles underneath to keep toys in, and it came with train tracks, trains, construction equipment and so many other things.  Papa put it together and Caleb helped, although he didn't know what he was helping put together until it really started coming together.  He had fun playing with it the rest of the evening.  We all had a great day and it was fun to be with all of the family.

9/8/06-  This morning, Caleb just kept asking me, "where's TJ?  Can I go wake up TJ?"  Finally, after we had breakfast, I let Caleb go down and wake up TJ.  He was just dying to say, "Wake up TJ Jeff!!"  like the Wiggles say, "Wake up, Jeff!"  So, sure enough, that's what I heard just moments later.  We had planned on going to Chattanooga today, but TJ wasn't ready to go at 9am, so I laid Daniel down for his nap and we decided to go around lunch time.  He had some laundry to do, so we did some loads before Daniel woke up.  Caleb wanted TJ to play with him upstairs in his room, so he did for a little while.

We got on the road around 11:45am.  TJ had talked about wanting to get a haircut, so we stopped at a Great Clips in Lookout Valley.  While TJ was getting his haircut, I fed Daniel his food, so that worked out well.  We headed over to Coolidge Park and went to a deli I had read about that I guy from New York ran.  I figured TJ would enjoy that.  It was really good. We went over to the fountains, but first, the boys and I rode the carousel that they have there.  You can't be wet when you go on it, so we went on BEFORE the fountains this time.  Caleb picked the giraffe to ride and I held Daniel and just stood beside the giraffe.

After the carousel ride, we went over to the fountains and the boys had a blast.  Daniel really got into it this time.  He just sat their by the fountain and kicked and enjoyed getting wet.   After the fountains, we got dried off and changed the boys and went to Clumpies to get ice cream.  It was cute- TJ took Caleb up to get ice cream while I finished getting Daniel changed.  When I got up there, Caleb was thoroughly enjoying his mint chocolate chunk cup of ice cream.  After ice cream, we went across the Walnut Street bridge.  I pushed Daniel in one stroller and put the folded up umbrella stroller in the basket underneath so we'd have it for Caleb.  I knew he'd probably get tired and it was definitely naptime.  He had fun walking across the bridge and Daniel kept sitting up and watching Caleb.  I thought he'd never go to sleep!  We made it over by the aquarium and Caleb and TJ played a little bit while I rocked Daniel to sleep.  Once he was out, I put him back in the stroller and we headed across the road to the new Riverwalk.  We sat and talked a little bit.  It was good to catch up with TJ and hang out with him.

We headed back over across the river to the van and headed over to Provino's Italian Restaurant where we were going to meet Aaron for dinner.  We had a great dinner.  Caleb and Daniel both ate spaghetti.  Daniel just kept reaching for everything in sight.  After dinner, Caleb went with Aaron over to a football game at Whitwell, and TJ and Daniel and I hung out.  We debated what to do and decided to go back downtown.  TJ is such a city guy.  He's has to be where the crowds are.  There was actually something going on downtown- we saw a bunch of people gathered around the plaza, so we parked and walked around.  Daniel was just the best.  He just took in everything that was going on and played with TJ while we sat on a bench and listened to the band that was playing.  We had a good night and then headed home to get things packed up to leave in the morning.  I needed to get all of his stuff packed and I needed to get the boys stuff and my stuff packed, because I planned on spending a few days at Mom and Dad's.

Caleb and Aaron got home and we got Caleb to bed and TJ, Aaron, and I hung out together.  We just had a good time snacking, talking and watching TV.  I'm glad TJ got to come and stay with us a few days.

9/7/06-  Today, Nana and Papa (my mom and dad) came down and brought TJ with them.  TJ has been "vacationing" for the last 6 weeks in Hawaii, and parts of California and Nevada.  He flew from Las Vegas to Nashville and will spend the next week in Tennessee.  He's going to stay with us through Saturday, and then we'll go up to Columbia, TN for a big family gathering at Mom and Dad's new house.

They got here around lunch time and we packed a picnic to go up to Foster Falls, only about 20 minutes away.  I thought it would be neat to eat at the park and then hike down to the lake that Falls "fall" into.  I knew Caleb would enjoy going in the water and TJ would probably get a thrill out of swimming over the falls.  Well, we got there, and got out of the van, and I thought to myself, "hmm, usually you can hear the falls from here."  We ate our lunch and then walked over to the falls, and I couldn't believe it.  They weren't there!!!  There wasn't even a trickle going over!  I knew we hadn't gotten a lot of rain this summer, but this proved it.  We did the hike up the river that led to the falls, instead of the hike down falls, and you could see, the stream hardly had any water and it wasn't even moving.  We still had fun, though.  Caleb and TJ through big rocks in water and watched them make big splashes.  It was cute to watch Caleb try pick up the big rocks like TJ.

We had an early supper when Aaron got home and then TJ and Aaron and the boys and I headed over to Chattanooga to a Lookouts game at the Bell South stadium.  It was a nice cool evening and we met Josh and Rachele and their kids there.  The kids had fun playing together.  Caleb had a rough night.  He kept getting in trouble, so we left before the end and explained to him that he wasn't going to get to see the fireworks.  He was so disappointed, but we had to punish him and make him realize that he needed to mind.  He's been going through some stage and I'm hoping he gets through it quickly.

9/6/06- Today was the first day of story hour at the library.  It sounds like they are going to do a lot of neat things besides just stories.  The lady said that they would be doing some crafts and even baking things that relate to the stories that they read during story hour.  She also said that they would have different holiday parties, so I think it will be great for Caleb.  It's only ages 3-5 years old.  There's a group of almost 20 kids.  All of the moms/grandmas who brought the kids sat in the back of the room, so I stayed in the back and rocked Daniel to sleep, since it was 10am and he hadn't taken his morning nap yet.  Caleb acted sad throughout the first half of storytime, and I couldn't figure out why.  They did the pledge to the flag first, and then sat down and she read a story, then they did a cute little fingerplay, and then another story, and then got up and did some exercises.  Then, they all got in a line to get a drink of water.  I pulled Caleb aside and asked him what was wrong.  He said he was doing what he was supposed to do, but the other kids weren't.  I asked him what he meant, and he said, "all the kids are moving around while she's reading the story and not sitting on their cushions like they're supposed to!"  That's what it was.  He knew how we were supposed to behave at the library, and he was sitting so sweetly, listening to the story, but not all of the kids were sitting still, and some were talking while she was reading, and it bothered him.  So, I told him that not everyone has learned how to behave in the library and that he needed to be a good example.  But, I told him to have fun and enjoy all of the activities that were going on.  He got his drink and then went in and had a better second half.  At the end, they all got in a line to get a stamp and a coloring sheet related to the theme of the week (this week was Three Little Pigs) so Caleb was excited about that.  I think he'll be even more excited about going next week.

9/5/06-  Daniel is 9 months old today!  I can't believe it.  I took him for his 9-month check-up and as I was sitting in the waiting room, I realized that the next appointment I would make would be for his 1 year check-up.  One year- how can that be?  I just had him!!

When we were called in, I asked Caleb if he remembered the nurse (Mrs. Kristy) at the football game a couple weeks ago.  She told him she remembered him being there and remembered him singing "Life is a Highway," and doing his funny laugh.  She said she laughed for 2 days!   Caleb looked at me with this really sweet look, and said, "Mommy, can I sing it for her?"  She was so excited that he sang it for her and it was so cute!  Then, she called another nurse in to hear it, and he wouldn't do it!!  He was partial to Mrs. Kristy.

I laid Daniel on the scale and she went to weigh him, and last time we were at the doctor (about a month ago) he was 20lbs.  So, I was thinking he'd be around 21 or 22 possibly.  But, when she started moving the bar over to the 5 and 6 for 25 or 26 pounds, I said, "there's no way!!  Is he really that much!?"  And then I realized that my arm was leaning on the scale!!  Woops!!!  So, once I moved we found that he was 20lbs. 14 oz...  That was much better.  He is also 29 inches, so he's doing great!!  Dr. Fox said that he seems to be doing just fine and called his crawling the "combat crawl."  That's what he looks like- a little army guy crawling on with his arms and elbows and pushing off with his legs.  He also asked me what words and sounds he's saying, so I told him the basic, "mama, dada, ba, na.." and then how he reacts to babies and pictures of babies, etc.  He said with him being the second child, I'll probably find that he will do things physically before Caleb did (which he is doing so far), but he will probably speak later than Caleb did.  He said with his own kids, his first child said a 7 word sentence at 17 months old, and his second child was still grunting and pointing at things at 2 years old.  He said a lot of times the second child sees what the older one is doing physically and wants to "keep up" with them.  But, they hear the older one talking and they tend to just listen and let them talk.  We'll see!  He remembered that Caleb was very verbal VERY early.  By a year old, he was saying, "mama, daddy, ball, Coco (our dog at the time), e-i-e-i-o, Bible, and clock.
