5/7/06- Sunday! We all made it out the door by 7:45am!! Yeah! Our gospel meeting began today with Charlie Brackett. He has so much knowledge of the bible- it should be a good week.
5/6/06- Today we took a picnic lunch to the park on the Nickajack Lake/Tennessee River. It was a beautiful day and we all had a good time.
5/5/06- I can't get over this week! Things have been so hectic! Bob and Sandi and Nanny had some things to take care of in Chattanooga in the afternoon, so they weren't there when the boys and I got home from school. Caleb was disappointed, because he was looking forward to seeing them (we left before they got up this morning!). And then, we decided to go to the gospel meeting in LaFayette, GA, and went over to the house of some friends from church after the meeting, so we didn't get home until late- LaFayette is about an hour away. But, they were still up when we got home, so he got to see them right before he went to bed.
On the way to the meeting in LaFayette, we drove through Chickamauga so we could see Aaron's new school where he will be the assistant principal. It is a very nice school and I think he'll do great there.
5/4/06- I took off today to go get the boys' pictures taken at JCPenney's and also get ready for Aaron's family coming in. I dressed the boys in their matching baseball outfits that my mom got them for Christmas. Caleb did fabulous! The last 4 times I've tried to take him to get his picture taken, it has been a nightmare. But, they all say that 2 is the hardest age, so I guess he's finally outgrown it. He did exactly what she asked and was just so good. She took some of Caleb by himself, then the boys together, and then some of Daniel by himself. Daniel did okay, but he's very squirmy and can't sit up on his own yet, so I had to hold him and couldn't stand in front of him to make him smile his adorable big smile each time. But, the pictures did turn out cute. I'll be posting them as soon as them come online!
Nanny flew in to Chattanooga, and Aaron picked her up around 5:30pm. We had dinner and Caleb was anxious to play with her and show her all of his toys.
Bob and Sandi drove from Oklahoma and got in around midnight.
5/3/06- Aaron is officially the assistant principal at Cherokee Ridge Elementary in Walker County, GA!!!!! The principal officially offered him the position today- I'm so happy for him!
We met Josh and Rachele at a mexican restaurant in Chattanooga before church, where kids eat free on Wednesdays. It was really good and we enjoyed spending time with them.
Daniel didn't really get a nap since we went to eat. He always wants to be a part of everything that's going on- he doesn't want to miss a thing! So, I kept him upstairs with me instead of having him go to Bible Class.
5/2/06- Tonight, I had 6th grade's night program, The Decade Concert, so Aaron watched the boys again for me. I appreciate him so much! It's good for him to spend that time with the boys, and I know they really enjoy that time with just him!
5/1/06- Tonight, Aaron kept the boys while I went to a retirement dinner at Sticky Fingers for my principal, secretary, and assistant principal. It was a fun to be with the faculty outside of school, but I was excited to get home to the boys!
4/30/06- This is going to be a busy week, because I have something going on every night this week, and Thursday night, Aaron's mom and husband, Bob, and Nanny will be coming and staying for about a week!
4/29/06- Today was the Cornbread Festival! The chorus performed at 11:30am, and Aaron brought the boys to the performance. Then, we found my grandmother and aunt, who had driven down from Dickson, and got some lunch with them there at the festival. By the time we were done with lunch, it was time for me to work the gate (SPES teachers work the gates for the festival every year). Aaron took the boys down to the kiddie area, and Caleb had a blast playing with the fake fish in the fountain! He said both boys were so good, and I was so glad Aaron took care of them for me for the day. He came by my gate before he left, which was around 3pm, and there he was carrying a sleeping Caleb and pushing the stroller with a wide-awake Daniel!! Everything went well, though, and Caleb had a great time.
4/28/06- Today was a fun day at the elementary school. We had 2 student vs. faculty basketball games in front of the school, and I actually played in the 2nd one!! I did okay- not great, but it was a lot of fun to play with all of them. My muscles sure were sore afterwards!
When the boys and I got home, I wanted to work on cleaning up the house, because we have something going on almost every night for the next week, and Aaron's grandmother is supposed to come on Thursday, and then Gigi and Papa O are coming the next day! So, while I'm washing windows, Sandi (Aaron's mom, aka "Gigi") calls from Atanta and says they're on their way in the moving truck with Nanny's stuff, and didn't realize they would be going through Chattanooga on their way to Oklahoma! Well, what's even funnier, is that they didn't realize that they'd be driving right past our house on I-24!! So, needless to say, they came her and spent the night. It was fun for Caleb to see them- he was so excited, and they got to see how big Daniel has gotten since they saw him right after he was born. They're going to head on to Oklahoma tomorrow, unload Nanny's stuff, return the truck, do a few things, and then head back here to spend the week and pick up Nanny.
4/27/06- Well, we've been asked everyday- "have you got those tennis balls yet, Daddy?" So, when I was talking to Aaron on the way home from school, Caleb asked to talk to his daddy, and what do you think he asked him? Yep!! So, Aaron stopped at Wal-mart on the way home to get the tennis balls, and we all had fun playing tennis this afternoon. Caleb has great hand and eye coordination, and does better than me at tennis!
4/24/06- Aaron got his tennis rackets out and showed Caleb how to play tennis, and he did really well for a little guy! Aaron only had one tennis ball, so he told Caleb he'd get some more at Wal-mart in a few days. I'm sure we'll hear, "did you get those tennis balls, Daddy?" the next few days!!
4/23/06- I gave Daniel some baby oatmeal today at lunch, and he seemed to like it! No bad reaction, so that's good. I think I'll give him the rice cereal at lunch, and the oatmeal at dinner, just for some variety, since he's been having just rice cereal for the last 3 weeks! It won't be long till we start fruits and vegetables!
4/22/06- This morning I had Ladies Bible Class, so Daniel went with me and Caleb stayed with Aaron. I wanted to run to some stores after class, because I really need to start thinking about Caleb's birthday- he'll be 3 year old, one month from today!! So, I went to Ross and Target. You wouldn't think of Ross as a "toy store," but they actually do have a nice toy and book section, and also their clothes are a good price. Since he is showing signs of early reading, (by asking what every word starts with and spelling various words!) we want to get him some preschool reading materials. I found some neat little things, like fun flash cards and puzzles, and one of those "wipe clean" books, where they can trace letters with a dry erase marker.
Caleb and Aaron went to a Spring Football Game at UTC (University of Tennessee at Chattanooga) with Aaron's good friend, Wes Green, and his son, Conner, and 2 of Conner's friends. Caleb had a BLAST! Conner and his friends are in 2nd grade, so Caleb had fun keeping up with them, and they enjoyed him, too! They went to Krystal's on the way there for dinner, and then to Bruester's for ice cream on the way home. He was so excited. He called me on Aaron's cell phone and told me all about it. It was so cute!
4/19/06- Well, they voted and it was a 2 to 2 vote: 2 for Aaron coming and 2 against. It's all politics. So, Aaron pulled out, because he knew that it would continue to be a political battle, and we just didn't want to get in the middle of it. The superintendent and human resources director were both disappointed that they lost him. The superintendent told him that if he ever needed a recommendation, she would gladly give him one.
The thing is, ever since this Waynesboro/Burke County job happened, Aaron has had schools throughout Walker County (where he's at now) calling him, to see if he's interested in them. He went for an interview on Monday for an assistant principal job, and the lady was ready to offer him the job right then, but she couldn't. She has called him everyday this week, begging him to not take another job, because she really wants him. And there are 3 other principals that want him, too. So, he'll get something, and with it being in Walker County, we won't have to move- yeah!!
We both have lots of mixed feelings...again! It's like I was telling my mom. When he first got the job offer, it was so hard to think about moving and leaving church in Chattanooga, and our friends that we've made while we've lived here. But, over the last 2 weeks, we just kept thinking of all of the positive things about moving to Burke County/Waynesboro. And now that we know we're not moving, we're having to "switch gears" and think about all of the positive things about being able to stay here, right where we are and have been for the last 5 years. So, in a few days, I think we'll be okay!!
4/18/06- Today was picture day at school, so both boys got their pictures made. They said that they will be back by next week, which is very fast- I'll be anxious to see how they turned out!
Tonight is that school board meeting down in Burke County, where Aaron was offered the assistant principal job. They will vote tonight on Aaron. We know whatever happens is God's will. Aaron has already said that if they "table" it (postpone it) until next month, he will just resend his name. We just can't wait another month to make important decisions, like putting the house up for sale, and finding a home down there, etc. We'll see what happens...
4/17/06- Daniel has dropped another feeding and adjusted his evening schedule again! Morning is still the same: wakes up around 7:00am, eats around 7:15am; after morning nap, I go over and feed him between 10:45 and 11:15am, and then he has some cereal. Now, instead of eating around 2:00 or 2:30pm (after his afternoon nap), he is sleeping all the way until I go to pick the boys up at 3:00pm! So, I just feed him when we get home, around 3:15pm, and he's up for a couple hours, and then goes down for a "mini-nap" for about 45 minutes to an hour, and then eats with me between 6:30 and 7:00pm, and then has some more cereal before bed! So, he is going 12 hours between feedings, and down to 4 feedings a day with me, and 2 servings of cereal a day. He's just doing great!!
I also took him to Dr. Fox (our pediatrician) for a follow-up on what we went to the ER for last week. All the tests came back negative, which was good news, and he said that the cream I was putting on should take care of the redness by the end of the week. He's doing so much better.
4/16/06- We had a good day today! All the boys were dressed up with their vests and ties and just looked so handsome (yes, I'm including Aaron as one of "the boys"!). We had a great time at the Watkins house on Saturday and we went over there for lunch after morning services. We went back home for the boys to nap (again- including Aaron!!). After evening services, we went out to Chili's with Josh and Rachele and the kids and that was a lot of fun. We haven't done that in a long time, so it was fun to go out with them. The kids enjoyed being together.
4/15/06- Today, we will be going to the Watkins house for a Spring Get-together/Annual Egg Hunt/Ham Shoot! They are having everyone over from church, so it should be a great time. They divide up the kids by age group and do 2 or 3 different egg hunts, so kids are hunting with kids their same age. We were in Florida last year and missed the get-together, but if you saw the video of Caleb hunting for eggs in his grandpa's backyard, you know he didn't miss out on hunting!! Caleb is really looking forward to another egg hunt.
4/14/06- No school today! We did so many fun things today and I got a lot accomplished, so everything was great!
Caleb has been anxiously waiting to color easter eggs ALL week. We got the kit at Wal-Mart last week, and I told him we'd do it when we were off from school on Friday. It was so fun seeing how excited he was to see the water change color and drop his eggs in the containers and watch them change color. We let them dry, and then the kit we got had "silly face" stickers, so he had fun putting different silly eyes and mouths on the eggs.
We had a picnic outside for lunch. The weather is supposed to be in the 80's for the next week. It was so pretty out- all blue sky and a warm breeze. Our picnic consisted of hotdogs, jello, veggie cracker/baked chips, fruit snacks, and juice packs! Then we played teeball and Daniel was our "cheerer."
Daniel is doing MUCH better. The swelling is gradually going down and I continue to put him in a warm bath in the morning and evening, and pour warm water over the area. He doesn't seem to be in pain anymore and we are so thankful for that; he seems to really enjoy just laying in the tub and kicking his feet! We have to put the topical cream on 3 times a day and the gauze over it, so it doesn't rub on his diaper. He really just seems to be doing great! We will go to our pediatrician on Monday to follow-up and have him check it and see how it's doing.
While the boys were napping in the afternoon, I went through ALL of the boys clothes and sorted through clothes we've been given over the years and made a "keep" pile, a "give-away" pile, and a "Rachele" pile, for our friends at church, who are having their 4th child in 6 weeks- their 3rd boy! Rachele has given me several boy clothes since Caleb was born, so I have about 3 bags to give back to her now!! While I was going through all of Caleb's old clothes, I was able to pick out things for Daniel that he can wear throughout the summer. Since he's 16 lbs. at 4 months old, and in 6 months clothes now, I'm sure he'll be in 12 month clothes during the summer, especially by August. So, I was able to get all of those cute 12 month summer clothes that Caleb wore when he turned 1, and now Daniel will get a chance to wear them!! YEAH!
