11/24/07- Happy 35th Birthday, Daddy! We got Daddy a MLBaseball video game, so he and Caleb enjoyed playing it together.
11/23/07- Daniel and Mommy headed up to Columbia to see Nana and Papa while Caleb and Daddy went to Atlanta to go to a hockey game. Caleb enjoyed the game and had fun riding the train into the city. They stayed in a hotel for the night, which Caleb loves.
11/22/07- Happy Thanksgiving! We went to Gigi and Papa O's and the boys enjoyed playing with their cousins, Terron, Jay, and Evan. It was fun to spend time with Julie and Terron and we all had a good day.
11/21/07- Day before Thanksgiving and we all have a day off! We had an enjoyable day and before church, the boys and I made cookies. It was Daniel's first time to really make them, so he enjoyed rolling out the dough and of course, making a mess with all the flour!
11/9/07- Daniel had tubes put in his ears today at the hospital. He did so great with all the pre-op procedures: taking medicine, weighing, taking blood pressure. He had played around so much in the room, but when they gave him the Tylenol with codine, and the other medicine, they said we better hold on to him, because it was going to make his body go so limp. Within 5 minutes, sure enough, he slowed way down, but you could tell he still wanted to get down and play. He did everything he could to still move around while Aaron was holding him, but he was so limp. He couldn't understand what was going on with himself!
The surgery went great; he was only back there for about 10 minutes. The doctor came to us and said that both ears were infected, but the tubes should solve the problem. I walked back with a nurse to see him in the recovery room. He was just getting up and trying to stand up and walk to the nurse. It was nice to hold him and he wanted some juice right away. They got him a cup and gave him some and he drank the whole thing right away!
We walked back to the room where Daddy was and he was excited to see Daddy. We were able to leave within 45 minutes of the surgery, which was great. We're thankful that everything went so well.
Caleb was picked up from school by Gigi and Papa O. Then, they all went back to the house so Papa O and Gigi could work on the room and bathroom downstairs.
9/25/07- Tonight our whole family went to the school for a Science Night. The school invited a scientist to come and do a demonstration program for the school. It was great! Caleb really enjoyed it and Daniel sat through most of it. He did a lot of interesting demonstrations and everyone learned a lot.
9/15/07- This morning, the boys just had so much fun playing with their toys in their room, because we had been gone every night this week at the gospel meeting. It was nice, because it gave me a chance to do chores around the house and get laundry done.
After lunch, we went over to the Marion County Fair. It's been going on all week, but we've had our gospel meeting, so I told Caleb we would try to go to today. Since it was daytime when we went, the rides weren't open, but they had some animal exhibits and a cute little "hands on" area for kids to dig up potatoes in sandboxes and pick apples off little trees. The boys had a blast doing that for the longest time, so it was worth it to go. The fair is right behind our local Dairy Queen, so we stopped and got some ice cream on our way out. It was a very fun day!!
9/10/07-9/14/07- Gospel meeting week- busy, busy!!! But, very edifying.
Friday night, after the meeting, Caleb and Bradley Roberts rode with Aaron over to McCord's football game, so they could pick him up. McCord and Bradley came to our house so they could spend the night, because they are going with Aaron to Montgomery, AL tomorrow to watch Florida College and Faulkner play volleyball and then Faulkner play Webber in football. Caleb had so much fun at McCord's game and he was still so excited when they all got to the house at 10:30pm!! But, when his head hit the pillow, he was out.
9/8/07- This afternoon, Daddy went to the Auburn vs. USF game! It was on TV, so I let him stay up and watch the first quarter. It was so cute how into the game he was! He was cheering and saying, "GO BULLS! USF!!!" Then, when he saw that USF was winning, he said, "Mom, this Auburn team is just so bad!" Then, he wanted to know where Daddy was on the TV- in a crowd of 72,000. That was hard to explain, but I did let him call Daddy and it was so cute to hear him talk to him. USF ended up winning- GO BULLS!!
9/6/07- Wow. Daniel is starting to talk so much now!!!! He actually is saying, "please," instead of just "puh, puh." He is starting to say so many other things, too. He says a lot of "b" words: bubba, bible, ball, bag, bubbles. He's also saying: amen, excuse me, thank you, ta-da, mama, dada, and cheese. He's really becoming vocal and it's so neat to hear him. Sometimes, he'll just be telling us something so serious, and we can't understand what he's saying, yet he's just going on and on about it. It's so cute! Yay, Daniel!
9/1/07- 9/3/07 - We all headed Nana and Papa's for the Labor Day weekend! It has been SO hot- we are all ready to go swimming! We had a great weekend. The boys swam with Nana and Papa and Matt, Daddy relaxed, we all just had a great time. Grandma, Jeanne, and Tim came down for Labor Day, which was nice. It was fun to spend time with all of them.
Caleb swam so great all weekend, but before we left, he actually started jumping in the deep end with Matt and swimming the length of the pool. I couldn't get over it! He learned to swim in just one summer, without actual swimming lessons. Yay, Caleb!!
8/31/07- Daddy called today and said that he found a stray dog on the school playground and was wondering if we could take it in. He took it to the vet and had him all checked out and we met him there to pick up the dog and take him home. It was a surprise for the boys and they fell in love with him instantly. Now we'll have to think of a name for him!
8/28/07- I ran into Mrs. Donna (Caleb's teacher) during one of my planning times today, and she is such friendly, happy lady, who always has a smile on her face. Well, when she walked into the workroom where I was making copies, I could tell she had something to tell me. She hesitated at first, but then told me, that a little girl came up to her and said, "Caleb bit me!" She explained that they were in line to use the restroom, and they were waiting on one more child, so all of them had been standing there for a while, but still. When she asked Caleb if he bit this little girl, he did not lie (thankfully), he told her the truth, but this was his full response: "Yes, Mrs. Donna, I bit her. But, it wasn't a hard, crunchy bite, it was just a love bite." As long as I live, I don't think I will EVER forget that line from my child!! Mrs. Donna was actually chuckling as she told me, and I had to keep from laughing and think about the point of the story. She said she explained to him that he was going to have to sit out from recess part of the time for doing that, and he was very good about understanding that. which I was glad.
When I saw him at the end of the day, he didn't bring it up at first. I kept asking in different ways, how his day went, what he did today, etc. Finally, I asked if he got in trouble today. He paused, looked at me, and said, "yes, ma'am," in a very soft, and sheepish voice. We talked about what he did and when we got home, Daddy talked with him. He had TV and treats taken away for the rest of the week, and he wrote an apology note to the little girl. There are still some things we are learning! But, it's great to be able to talk with him about situations.
8/21/07- Daniel and I took Caleb over to Gigi and Papa O's this evening so he could spend the night. I have an inservice tomorrow, and there will be no kids at school, so now that Caleb's a student at the school, we have to work something out for the days when teachers come and students don't. We had dinner with them and the boys played. Gigi and Nanny and I were cleaning up dinner dishes when we heard a thump upstairs, Daniel cry, and then long pause before the next cry. Papa O came rushing downstairs with him in his arms and said, "I'm gonna need some help. He hit the corner of the TV cabinet." All I saw was blood gushing out of Daniel's forehead and what looked like a deep cut. Since Gigi has been through so many cuts and need for stitches with Daddy when he was a little boy, I knew she would know what to do. The bleeding stopped pretty quickly and she could tell it wasn't that deep. We put Nesporin on the cut and covered it with a band-aid, and he was fine. It wasn't as bad as it first looked, thankfully!
8/15/07- First day of PRE-K for Caleb!!! Caleb was up at 6:15am, getting dressed for school- he was so excited. Daddy stayed home this morning so he could go with us and then take his car to the shop. We had his lunch all packed and he walked into his class, ready to go! I was able to see him walking down to the cafeteria while I was in the music room, and he just looked so cute! Then, I got to peek in on him when he was in the gym. It's so neat to be able to see him throughout the day and just check on him. I know he's fine and know he will be fine. I just love watching my kids in action.
When I picked up Caleb at the end of the day, he had a great big smile on his face and told me that he had a great day. I'm so glad he loves it!
8/14/07- This afternoon, Nana and Papa brought Caleb back home and stayed to eat dinner with us. It was great to see Caleb again. This was the longest we had been apart! Almost 1 full week! He had a great time and so many stories to share and things to show us.
He spent a lot of time in the pool, and one night, Nana and Papa took him in the pool so he could be in there with the light on and see the stars. He asked Nana and Papa that night about the stars and the told him about the Little and Big Dipper and Orion's Belt, and how the starts make constellations. Well, that got him thinking and the next day, he wanted to find out more about these constellations, so they found some pictures on the internet and printed them off for him to take home. He was so excited to show us!
Caleb also went to a train store in Franklin, TN, and over to a friend's house from Nana and Papa's congregation. He got to ride on a John Deere tractor, because his friend lives on a farm! One morning, Nana and Papa had an Adult Bible Study at the church building, and they brought coloring books and crayons for Caleb. They said he was so good, most adults didn't even know he was there, until he raised his hand to say something in the bible class! Papa said he had some very sweet things to say about Jesus and God and how Jesus died on the cross. It was precious.
Thanks for a great time, Nana and Papa!
8/12/07- This evening, we went to church in LaFayette with Josh and Rachele and it was good to be with everyone down there. Afterwards, we went over to Rachele's aunt and uncle's house and had a great time visiting with everyone from the congregation. Daniel had a good old time with all the kids and their little dog. He is really warming up to animals. We might have to break down and get a dog for these boys soon...
8/11/07- Well, it was just Mommy and Daddy and Daniel for the whole Saturday! "Bubba" (Caleb) is still at Nana and Papa's, so we've been enjoying Daniel by ourselves, since we've never had him to ourselves for a more than a day or two. He's been enjoying Mommy and Daddy all to himself, too. It might be interesting when "bubba" comes home!
We got up and drove down into Georgia and looked at some houses and areas we hadn't looked at together. We're still trying to decide what to do. We had a good day. Daniel napped while we drove around and we just had a good time together.
Oh, Daniel. I can't believe how fast you're growing! You are going to be 2 years old in just 4 months! You are doing so many things, I could just watch you play all day. You are really trying to talk and communicate more and more with words. You did the sign language the last few months, but now instead of signing "please," you are saying "puh, puh" for "please," and it is so precious! I will also sign and say "I love you," and you will hold up your hand and try to do your fingers that way, and say in your own sweet way, "I love you!" I love your smile and your laugh. I love seeing you get excited about something. Those big chocolate brown eyes just twinkle with happiness. You are such a loving child and you are so sweet toward others. Mommy and Daddy just love your hugs and kisses and we love how you hug and blow kisses to others. It is adorable to watch you go around the church building and shake hands with the adults. Daddy has taught you well. We love you, Daniel!
8/8/07- This morning we all had to get up and out! It was Registration Day at school. Caleb and I took Daniel over to Dee Dee and Cee Cee's and then went over to the big school. Caleb was excited to see his classroom all setup and find things with his name, like his cubby and drawer. Mommy filled out paperwork while Caleb played with Moss and some of the other kids. Caleb didn't want to leave- he was having so much fun! But, we made it out the door and picked up Daniel and Mommy worked on some things in the music room. Then, we got some chicken nuggets and fries at Wendy's and headed up to meet Nana and Papa so Caleb could spend the next few days with them! So much excitement for a little boy.
We met at an Old Time Pottery and shopped a little bit and then Papa got some ice pops for the boys. It has been SO HOT- in the 100's the last week. We all visited and then we got Caleb's suitcase and they headed out. Daniel really wanted to go, too. He tried to climb in their car and go with them, and he screamed when I tried to get him out. But, he eventually settled down. Daniel and I headed back home and stopped to attend Wednesday night Bible Study about 30 minutes from home. It was good to meet with the brethren there and Daniel was very good during, considering they didn't have a kids class. We headed home after a long day and went to BED!
8/7/07- They say Daniel has been doing fine during the day. He's been a little fussy in the mornings, but they've laid him down for a nap and he's taken a short one in the morning and then his long nap in the afternoon. I thought he had dropped the morning nap, but this is a different routine we are all getting use to. Getting up and out of the house early each day- it will probably take a week to get use to everything.
Aaron met Daniel and I over at Gigi and Papa O's, so we could celebrate Papa O's birthday and pick up Caleb and take him home. We had a good time and Papa O enjoyed playing with the boys on his birthday. Caleb went with Gigi to pick out a cake and balloon for Papa O's birthday. While they were at the store, they picked out a really cool Hot Wheels toothbrush for him to keep at their house. He loved that! Quote by Caleb to Gigi, "You know, Gigi, Papa O knows more than you." Unbelievable- that child!! You never know what he is going to say.
