Jan 31, 2008

I'm lousy at keeping things updated, so if you've checked recently, I'm sorry.

Clinton is almost 17 months old and doing great.  He gets around very well these days. His main mode is crawling all over on his hands and knees, but he will walk holding your hand, and loves to move around the house, holding on to things. He'll walk all the way around the couch, holding on.  I've also seen him taking a little step between 2 things, like the chair and the couch.  He can do it, but he doesn't really know it yet. We've been working on his balance a lot.

He's taller now, which makes me crazy sometimes because he can reach so high.  I'm constantly moving things. Clinton is not a talker.  Like his dad and his papa, he's a quiet type.  He does have a few words and specific sounds that he'll use, but usually the most "talking" his does is when he's hungry and wants something.  He mostly watches and listens.  He's getting pretty good about listening to "no".  We'll see how long that lasts.

Sorry I'm late in adding new news.  I'll try to keep up more in the future.  Have a great day!

September 14, 2007   Clinton had an appointment with the doctor this morning.  As soon as I said he hasn't been sick, he got sick.  When we came back from the lake, he had a little cough and sneezes.  We waited a few days to see if it passed and it didn't.  It got worse. Now he has the cough, sneezes and chest congestion and runny nose.  We're treating for allergies and a cold so we'll see.  He seems to be getting better, thank goodness.  I've been miserable watching him feel miserable.

September 4, 2007   Clinton had his one year checkup at the doctor's office today.  He is 28 1/2" tall and weighed in at 19 pounds even.  The doctor gave him an A+ and said he's doing great.  His height & weight are still on the low side but both are on the growth curve.  I still don't care where he falls on the chart.  He's healthy and cute and growing well.  We've still had no illnesses, thank God.

September 2, 2007  Clinton is 1 year old today.  We celebrated his birthday with the family at Joe Pool Lake during the Berger family reunion.  Cousin Shawn made his train cake and we all had a great time, even if it was a little soggy.

June 4, 2007  Today Clinton had his 9 month checkup.  He is officially 15lb. 5 oz, and 27 inches tall.  He looks taller than that when he stands up but I guess the tape measure is more accurate than a mom's eye.  He is finally catching up with the growth curve for his age group.  His height is in the right range now but his weight is still below.  He is following the curve but just a little under.  I don't care about that.  He is proportionate and looks good to me!!!

October 19, 2006  I have posted some updated pictures but when she sent them she did not send an update on him.  So, I don't have much for today but I will have in the near future.  I hope everyone is doing well.  I have also added a song so it may take a few minutes.

Ok, DSL is back up so I will do much better than I have the last few weeks.  I appreciate everyone's patience and please keep checking back for updates and pictures.  -Julie

October 01, 2006   He extubated himself this morning ( he pulled his ventilator tube out of his mouth, and cut off his support.) and they let him try it on his own for a bit but he did not do well so they put a new tube in.  He got to wear clothes for a few hours today, you'll see in the pictures.  He was bundled to try to make him more comfortable and keep him from moving his arms too much.  He seemed really comfy but was not able to hold his body temp so he was put back under the heat source in his bed.  The nurse said he's really too young or too small to be able to maintain his temperature anyway but he was on his own for about 5 hours and did okay before his temp dropped enough to put him back in.  He's making little bits of progress here and there.

(Ok, it's a little blurry but it goes with the whole water theme...I just think it is wonderful!)

How time flies!  Today is Oct. 18.  Clinton weighs 4lb, 5oz. now.  He is a little over 16" long (previous reports showing 16" were incorrect) and growing cuter by the day.  His feedings have changed, it's now 41ml of fortified breast milk every 3 hours.  He was taken off the ventilator Weds. Oct 4. and was put on CPAP.  Then Thurs. Oct 5 he moved to nasal cannulas.  He's been doing okay but may have to go back on CPAP if he does not improve soon.  We'll see what the doctor says.  Occasionally while he's being fed Clinton will stop breathing, so the nurses think he has reflux.  His respirations per minute are a little high but once they come down below 60 he can start bottle feeding.  He just needs to get bigger and stronger still to deal with the world.  In the meantime, we get to hold him most days and visit with him every chance we get.

September 29, 2006
Hi guys!!

here are some new pictures, taken in the last couple of days.  Clinton is doing well, he is getting 5 ml/hour of fortified breast milk, 24 hours a day.  he was weighed tonight and is now 2lb, 15 oz.
The physical therapist stopped by yesterday and seemed pleased with what she saw.  He seems to be doing all of the things a newborn should be.  And he is getting more control over his eyes and muscles every day. The best form of therapy she said is us holding him.  So I'll be doing that every day that I can.  Tim doesn't want to yet, he said he'll wait for his turn.
Clinton is still on the ventilator to support his breathing but is coming down on his levels pretty regularly.  Our doctor said yesterday that he will probably extubate in about a week and see how Clinton does on oxygen and CPAP without the ventilator.   It seems crazy sometimes to remove a machine just to bring it back in a few days later but he needs to try it on his own and tell us how much he can handle.  He need a break for a couple of days, and he'll get the vent back to help him rest up.  We'll see.
Tim went back to work this week, he's getting up extra early to go in early to get off early and come up to the hospital.  So far he's handled getting up at 4:00a to be at work by 5:00.  But the poor guy is tired because we still don't leave the hospital until 9 or almost 10 at night.  I go back on Oct. 10, after my checkup with the ob on Oct. 9.  I keep buying lottery tickets though, hoping that one day we'll only have to work for the insurance.
Love,
Kim

Clinton is 1 month old now and is 15 inches long, 2lb. 15 oz.  He hit 3 lbs for about 1 day but then lost the weight. (I think he was weighed before his diaper was changed.)  He is getting 8ml/hour continuous feed of fortified breast milk and is tolerating it well.  The nurse checks the contents of his stomach every so often and lately has not found anything to check!  All of his food is being digested now.  Yay!  He is still breathing with assistance from a ventilator and will likely have it for at least a few more weeks.  He does breathe on his own but his lungs are not strong enough yet to do all of the work.  That's okay, he's not in a hurry.  The doctor said he probably won't go home until his due date (Dec. 2) anyway.

September 20, 2006  Clinton is 18 days old today and doing pretty good.  He is now 15" and 2lb, 11oz.  Making the nurses work seems to be his favorite hobby so far.  Just about the time the nurse gets finished with her tasks and sits down to do paperwork, he drops his oxygen level.  Then she has to get up and check on him.  After a minute or 2 he usually brings it back up on his own.  Sometimes he needs help or to have gunk suctioned out of his lungs so they turn his oxygen level up some.  Then a few minutes later when the nurse sits down again, his blood oxygen level will soar.  Just enough to make the alarm go off, then he'll drop it again to normal levels.  Mom and Dad will have their hands full when he goes home!

September 16, 2006   This update is actually as of yesterday but this is the first chance I had.  Oh, and these words are via Shawn.  Shawn, those pictures are wonderful, very clear and bright.

Here are a few pics that I took on Saturday. There wasn't really anything more to update on except that they had to go up a dial or notch on his ventilator. Tim and Kim said their goal right now is just to get off the vent.

September 13, 2006   Well, John went up this evening and took some more pictures and got an update but I couldn't go so this is what he had to say.  Clinton is on breast milk now so that is really good.  They took the chest tube out and his lungs are doing a lot better.  Mom and Dad are logging in when they have a minute and are really appreciating all of the wonderful comments and prayers that everyone is giving to them & especially Clinton.  Sorry this update isn't much but you know how guys are...he said he couldn't remember everything they said.  LOL!  Go figure.  Anyway, I will try to get up there Friday or Saturday to give you a more detailed update.  In the meantime if anyone has any updates that they can email me I will gladly post them.  Until next time...enjoy a few more pictures from today.

September 10, 2006 Well it was a rough morning but this afternoon things were looking up. He was having troubles with his left lung and gas levels. But they have him laying on his left side and they are suctioning him regularly so things are going better this evening. He has dropped some weight and is currently at 2lb 9 1/2 oz. They expected a loss because of water weight but the nurse, Lisa, did say that they weighed him three times because it was so much. They said no worries about it though. Mom & Dad are still in good spirits as well as Nanna and Grandma (I guess that is what he will call Karen?). They really appreciate the visitors and prayers they are receiving from everyone.
