March 31, 2009  Our little baby is 1 year old!!!  He's now walking everywhere and has finally agreed to wear some shoes.  We had his party on Saturday and, after sampling the icing with his fingers, he opened wide and tried to bite right from the cake.  It was SO cute!  We had so many friends and family there...and missed the ones who weren't able to make it.  He got lots of great presents and had alot of fun!
Not too much else is new....he sometimes will sleep for 6 hours or so, but then other nights he wakes every hour or so.  He likes to sing to himself in the car and that's adorable!! :)

February 18, 2009   He finally slept through the night!!!  From 8pm to 5:45...I gave him a bottle at 10 and he fussed a couple of  times because he lost his binky...but that's it!!  I guess it took his first illness (cough, fever, stuffy nose) along with teething to make the miracle happen.  Keep your fingers crossed that he keeps it up!

February 3, 2009  Caden started walking last week....although he still usually chooses to crawl.  The times that he'll walk is if he's standing and then sees something that catches his eye across the room...then he's off!  It's so cute!
He's also begun to dance whenever he hears music.  Well, it's actually more like a squat with a jiggle at the bottom!  He still is saying "mamama" and "dadadad" and "singing" a whole lot!
His eyes are still blue gray...so I think they'll stay that way! :)

January 11, 2008   Happy New Year!  Well, alot has changed since my last post!  Caden is now 9 1/2 months old and crawling all over the place!  He started crawling around 8 months...and about a week after that he began pulling up on anything he could get his hands on.  He now stands to play alot of the time and cruises around holding on to the furniture.  His top two teeth have started to come in and he's taking it much better than he took his bottom two (no mid-night screaming so far!)  He's "talking" so much now...and says "mama" when he wants me to pick him up.  He will mimic some things for a day or two...but then seems to get bored and stops!  Some that he has decided to hold on to are "high fives", the head tilt, and bumping heads.
We went to the Dr. and got his percentiles...weight is 34th, height is 36th, and head circumference is 89%.  He's got a melon head like his daddy!  We say it's to hold his big brain :)

October 6, 2008  Well, we've regressed a little bit since my last post...Caden is back to sleeping with us.  He was waking up very sad every 45 minutes or so in his own crib, and we just didn't have the heart to let that continue.  Although we know it will be a harder habit to break the longer it goes on, we've rationalized that we'd rather let him learn  to sleep alone once he can understand a bit more what's going on!  He still wakes every 4 hours to eat, though, and takes a full 6 oz...that means I'm having to change his his daiper mid-night.  I don't know what I'm going to do with him!!
Caden has also sprouted two teeth..his bottom middle ones.  It is SO cute!  He's eating all kinds of things...I made several batches of baby food and was totally shocked that he likes broccoli, parsnips, and butternut squash!  His favorite, though, are frozen yogurt pops.
He's pretty good at the backwards crawl {see video} and just today kind of moved forward...it was more like a pounce and he landed on his face both times.  He wasn't very happy about it!
I'm counting down our last 5 days until I have to go to work...I'll miss him SO much!

September 24, 2008 WOW!  I can't believe that it's been over a month since I have updated this site!  I made it through to my first cycle break, so Caden and I get to spend the next three weeks together!
As of Monday, Caden is in boot camp to fix his "every 2 hour" eating habit.  He's doing pretty well!  He now eats solid foods three times a day (he loves green beans, bananas, and plums out of his little "feeder" {see pic}) and takes his milk every four hours.
He also is no longer sleeping in our bed, and that has been a much tougher habit to break!  Tonight, for the first time, I was able to put him to bed awake and he put himself to sleep...no tears!  Keep your fingers crossed for us as last night was terrible!

My little baby is growing up...he can roll over both ways and even sit up on his own for short periods of time.  He's still a happy little guy who especially loves to play in his exersaucer in the front yard.  I'm already dreading going back to work!

August 12, 2008  Well, here's the past three weeks in a nutshell:

Caden is still eating every 2 hours, day and night, and mommy is exhausted!  We tried starting solid foods, but that only made matters worse because he was up more times in the night with tummy aches.  Soooo, we stopped them and am (thankfully!?) back to getting up "only" three times a night.  He sure liked the food, though...can't wait to try again in a couple of months.
He loves to swim and has learned how to "yell" at us.  He's also grabbing things on purpose and can pluck his binky out of his mouth and put it back in most of the time!  He's getting so big...15 lbs 7 oz at four months and 24 inches long!

July 26, 2008  Wow...being a mommy and working full time is hard!  I will try my best to post every so often, but the days just fly by!

Caden is having fun staying with gma Kathy during the days.  He has started eating a little less from a bottle and a little more with me in the evenings, so that's kind of funny!  He is just smiling and laughing up a storm and is such a sweetie!  He plays in his exersaucer and loves it still and is putting everything into his mouth.  I'll be a tooth will pop up very soon!

July 10, 2008  Caden is now starting to put everything into his mouth!  Besides his everpresent slobbery face, it is just adorable!
I've discovered how to record video on my digital camera and will post new ones every so often on  my blog.

Bookmark that site and check back often!!!  There's one now with him in his new exersaucer from Aunt Lori!  Adorable!

July 6, 2008  Caden rolled over for the first time two days ago!  We were all at home to see it and even got it on tape.  He did it four more times right away, but hasn't done it since!

We got his pictures taken and you can see them by clicking here.  You'll need to login with elfvdb@gmail.com and the password "caden08." We also got pictures done of Caden and Collin together...but I don't have them yet.  I'll post them asap!

June 27, 2008  The past couple of days Caden has begun to go more than 2 hours between feedings...usually about 3 hours during the day and at least that long, if not longer, at night.  It is SO nice!  It is challenging, however, since I used to be able to plan outings on his bi-hourly schedule, now I never know if he'll make it the full three or not!  We'll figure it out though!

We are back to swaddling also.  He only lasted that one day without it...as soon as I get just one arm tucked in his crying almost immediately stops!  He is doing really well since I've begun to wrap him up and lay him down for naps and bedtime while he's still awake, but drowsy.  He puts himself right to sleep, most often with his binky. :)

He's still talking up a storm and smiling and laughing at us so much.  He's just ADORABLE and I'm dreading going back to work in two weeks already.  At least he seems to be working on letting me get more sleep at night!

June 18, 2008     Well, Caden has learned two new tricks this week!  First, he decided that he really wants to suck on his thumb.  He's gotten it in once or twice, but the rest of the time he usually gets an extra finger or two in his mouth, and that really makes him mad!  We keep trying to put the binky in every time he goes for his fingers (since we figure that will be an easier habit to break down the road), but he just spits it our and keeps trying!!

Second, he now can hold on to a rattle for longer than a second and actually shake it around for awhile.  We're so excited to see him growing up! :)  Check out the pictures page for a shot of his newest accomplishment!

June 13, 2008  Wow!  Time sure flies!  I'm off for my short summer vacation now and will hopefully be able to post more often.  Caden is still eating every two hours, 24 hours a day, but still goes right back to sleep at night time.  So...it could be worse!  Last night was his first night sleeping "un-swaddled" as he seems to have outgrown it.  I woke up twice the night before and he had wrestled his hands out of the top of his "wrap."  I guess there will be no more baby burrito!  It's a good thing for summer though, as wrapping him up for outdoor naps sure would get hot!
He's still such a good little baby.  He's really smiling and "talking" alot now, mostly in the morning hours right after he wakes up.  We took the Nebraska picture for Grandpa's Father's Day gift and Daddy (a Mizzou fan) hoped to keep them off the Internet.  He's just too cute, though!
I hope to start taking pictures more now that I'm off of work, so keep checking back!
Oh...as of 6/2 Caden weighed 13 lbs 6 oz (80th percentile) and was 22 1/2 inches (25th percentile), so he's still my little "chunky monkey!"

May 23, 2008  Well, I had to return to work this week. :(  On Monday Caden stayed with daddy and Grandma Cella each for a half of a day, then he's been with Grandma Kathy ever since. While they say he was happy all day, I can't say the same for me.  I did really well until Thursday when he was with all of the other kids Kathy watches for the first time (she'd been off T and W and watched Caden alone.)  It seemed for the first time that he was really "growing up!"  She did say that he was the best behaved kiddo!  He is talking up a storm and is smiling alot and even giggling every once and a while!  We're looking forward to a three day weekend!

May 12, 2008  All is well with Caden and now he weighs 10 lbs 13 oz.  He's beginning to smile, and you can see a little one on the home page.  Sometimes he'll grin ear to ear and it is just the cutest thing we've ever seen!  After a rough week of wanting to eat almost every hour for a good portion of the day (a growth spurt??) he's now going about 2-3 hours in between feedings and sometimes longer at night.  Yeah!!  I really don't want to go back to work in a week...I am going to miss the little guy terribly!

May 1, 2008  We went to the Dr. on Tuesday and the little guy is doing just great!  His cradle cap is gone and he has some baby acne, but that's normal.  He weighs 10 lbs. 11 oz. and is 20 3/4 inches long.  That puts him in the 75%ile for weight and 10%ile for length...looks like he's shaping up to be a shorty like mommy and daddy after all!

The nights have gotten more challenging since he wants to eat (set a clock by it!) every two hours.  So, by the time he eats, I change him, and get him back to sleep, we're up an hour later!  That is, until last night, when he slept for one 3 and one 2 hour stretch.  I hope he's not just teasing me...rather it would be nice to turn over a new leaf since I have to go back to work in 2 weeks!

We go for hour long walks every morning and Caden usually sleeps through them.  He's begun to smile every so often and we think that is just adorable!  He really likes being outdoors and we have enjoyed going to Collin's baseball and daddy's softball games at least three nights a week.  I am sure dreading going back to work!

April 23, 2008  I can't believe it's been over a week since I've posted...time just flies by withour little bundle of joy!  His rash has subsided to just a mild case of cradle cap, although now he has a little bit of baby acne on his face, chest, and back.  Check out the Pictures page to see how bad the "inflamed" cradle cap was on his face.

We have been thoroughly enjoying the beautiful spring weather!  We go for at least two walks a day, and sit outside in the shade whenever we can.  We've gone to Daddy's softball game and Collin's baseball game too.

Caden has slept in his crib for the past two nights and done very well.  He even went five hours once last night without waking, but then returned to his typical 2-3 hour pattern.  Maybe his little tummy is growing along with him!

Today he was getting hungry and beginning to fuss while I tried to quickly finish up my breakfast.  As he usually does, he began sucking on himself...usually a finger or knuckle...but this time got a hold of his wrist.  If you look closely on the photo on the Front Page, you'll see where he gave himself his first hickey!  I also think that his eyes look a little green (like mine!) in that photo...only time will tell what color they'll end up!

April 14, 2008  Well, I left Caden with grandma Kathy today so I could go to the Dr...and it was my first time without him since we got him out of the nursery.  We both survived :) though!!  I wasn't sure how long it would take, though, so last night Daddy gave him his first bottle to practice in case he needed one while I was gone.  He did a great job with it!

Caden went to the Dr. today because of a terrible rash he has on his forehead and around his eyes.  It started on Thursday and the Dr. hopes that with treatment, it should be resolved in a couple of days.  So, I don't have many new pictures to post as he certainly isn't looking his best right now!  He does, however, weigh 9 lbs 12 ounces...that's a pound and six ounces he's gained in just under 2 weeks.  I guess he's getting plenty to eat!

He is still being such a good boy throughout the nights and I certainly appreciate that.  He's staying awake sometimes for 4 or more hours at a time during the day and is sometimes fussy; I think because he's tired but just has too much for him to do and see!  We've started walking Scrappy in the stroller and that usually puts Caden to sleep for a little bit.  I just can't wait for some warm weather so we can enjoy some time out of the house!

April 5, 2008  Caden slept for over 5 hours straight last night!  Although it scared me right out of a deep sleep that he hadn't woken me in so long, daddy convinced me to let him rest.  So, from 9 p.m. until 8 a.m. we only got up twice!

Since the little guy is staying awake for much more of the day now, I think it's time to post less frequently, as it's getting difficult to find the time!  I promise to keep posting photos at least once a week...probably much more often as soon as he grows into all of the adorable 0-3 month clothes we were given...now we're just recycling the few newborn sized things we have!  So...keep checking back for pics and hopefully I will be given my driving rights back next week so we can get out and about to visit and enjoy the spring!

April 4, 2008  Oops, I missed my first day of posting yesterday!  Caden was wonderful...and stayed awake for much longer periods of time, so we played quite a bit!  We learned the Hokey Pokey while getting dressed and also had some tummy play time on his aquarium mat.  He worked so hard at holding his head up while I cheered for him.  After about 5 minutes he decided he was done and just crashed face down.  It was so cute!!
