Weeble Wendy - May 23, 2008
Today we went to another doctor's appointment to do the glucose test for gestational diabetes. I measured two weeks ahead, and the doctor said this is normal for shorter people because we have less space for the baby, so it sticks out farther. James is having fun calling me "Weeble Wendy" and watching me grow. This weekend is the shower with my family in Winston-Salem, which will be fun!

Yes, I am PREGNANT - May 18, 2008
Well, the third trimester will be here in a matter of days. It's amazing how many people see me these days at my business functions and say "I didn't know you're pregnant." Well, it's definitely obvious now, especially to me. I almost weigh as much as James (thank goodness that's not saying too much, but it's still a lot for my 4'11" frame to handle), and my feet really hurt! We went to Kaylee Clark's 5 year birthday party today at Pullen Park and by the end of the event, James said my feet looked like watermelons. He's enjoying "Weeble Wendy." Summer's setting in, so we'll see how that goes. We're flying up to Pittsburgh the first week of June, which is really our last chance to travel - maybe the weather there will be a relief, as it's been pretty hot here this past week. And, maybe if I get out of town I can stay off my feet a bit more than I find myself doing around here with so much to do.

Work & The Carying Place Auction - May 10, 2008
Life has been so busy. I can't believe that we moved into the new office space nearly two months ago. We have the Open House planned for Wednesday, May 21. I've also been working on the Carying Place Auction, which was last night. It was a wonderful event with a Wizard of Oz theme. I won several auction items for the baby including a cute giraffe outfit, a bright bib and burp cloth set and a couple of small soft blankets!

Thank You's - May 1, 2008
I have two showers planned - one in Winston-Salem on May 25 and one in Raleigh in late June. But, I'm so overwhelmed by all the gifts we've already received from friends and family. Here's a special thank you to those of you who have helped us along this journey so far:

Juli LaDue - "My Mom Is Hot" Bib, Car Charm and Wolfpack onesie - Go Pack!
Kristi Drum - Daily Journal - I love being able to know what's happening every day!
Sherry Mitchell - A cute little outfit with flowers - so adorable!
Cathy Sanita - Baby Journal to write my notes to the baby in - how fun!
Mom & Bill - Bumperpads, Nursery Furniture, more cute little outfits than I can count and my kushy Tempurpedic Body Pillow!
Renie & Bill - Beautiful flowers just before Mother's Day in the perfect colors!
Dad & Latane - Mini blanket that's soooo soft!
Sherry Joyner - "The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" opened my eyes wide to this experience!
Jeannette - I love Mondays and opening each cute little thing you send in the mail from the adorable little outfits and baby Reeboks to the thermometer and baby booties!
Porter - the Navy Blue stroller to keep James from looking too fru-fru when he takes her out!

The Nursery of Many Colors and The First Kick (an exciting weekend) - April 19, 2008
Last weekend, mom & I picked out the fabric for the bumper pads and bedskirt - bright colored tropical flowers in all my favorite colors: purple, hot pink, lime green, yellow and orange. Mom's now officially going crazy buying her wardrobe. Of course, I'm one to talk - I found a yardsale this weekend with brand new girl clothes for $1 each and went crazy! We also made the bumper pads, and they're so pretty! And, what a deal - Mom & I found some really nice Bassett Furniture at Burlington Coat Factory on sale that she bought for the nursery. It will look perfect with the white crib from Ikea. Of course, we couldn't leave it just white. We bought paints in all the colors in the bumper pads and painted the doors all different colors. Then I handpainted flowers on the knobs to match the flowers in the fabric. The furniture looks like a tropical castle! We also found beautiful stuff to decorate with at Joanne's - pretty flowers, a butterfly and a firefly with glitter to hang on the wall in all the pretty colors.

On the other subject, I had a doctor's appointment Friday, and just as I was telling the doctor I hadn't felt her kick, she went to do the doppler to hear the heartbeat and felt a kick. Now that I know what it feels like, it seems that she's kicking all the time!

Wow, I've GROWN - March 23, 2008
Well, last Friday I knew I was finally showing when my old landlord Jack and I were talking outside the new office. He looked at me and said, "Are you moving today?" to which I replied "Yes." Then he looked me over and said, "Are you pregnant?" He's the first person who did not know I was pregnant who noticed. Well, that was nothing... On Tuesday, James asked me if I had grown and said that I was looking bigger, but we measured my waist and no change. By yesterday, Saturday, I measured again for my journal, and OH MY GOODNESS... 1-1/2 inches in just 4 days. Crazy!

It's a GIRL! - March 18, 2008
The ultrasound technician kept us in suspense as she looked at all the organs and let us know the baby is healthy. We had told her at the beginning of the appointment that we wanted to know, but she asked us again if we were sure - we were both anxious to find out. It's interesting how detailed the ultrasound is. She showed us a shot between the legs and pointed out the anatomy as she told us it's a girl. Our parents are all so happy - I'm not sure I've ever heard my mom so excited. She had told me she just couldn't imagine me not having a girl. My aunt Jeannette had predicted it last year when she found a pink booty in her laundry at the extended stay hotel when she was visiting Raleigh. So, oh well, so much for the voodoo Elizabeth did with my wrist at the bank that predicted a boy! And Danielle, I may be built like I'm having a boy, but it's a GIRL :) It's just a shame she wasn't more photographic for the third ultrasound photoshoot!

The First Trimester Has Passed - Tuesday, February 26, 2008

I can't believe we're 1/3 of the way there. A friend asked James about my mood in the first trimester - he replied that I've just been giddy. I'm so glad my husband didn't find me "moody," and hopefully it will stay that way. The morning sickness has eased up a bit, but it will be nice to get through it completely. I must say that today was a conflicted day - I continue to try to keep myself on track in terms of meals, but some days are tough with my schedule! Steve in my office saved me today with a Grilled Chicken Sandwich. My staff is being very supportive and helping me make sure to eat as I need to every day - someone's got to look after this workaholic!

Good News - Wednesday, February 20, 2008

We got great news today from our first trimester screening. The combination of the measurement of the nuchal translucence and the blood tests they did showed that we have a very low risk of any chromosomal abnormalities such as Down's Syndrome or neural tube defects.

We have our next doctor's appointment in just a couple of weeks, and near the end of March we'll have another ultrasound and be able to find out the sex of the baby - yeah! Everyone seems to have an opinion about that!

Valentine's Day 2008

It was a special Valentine's Day for us with the little one on the way. James cooked me a nice steak dinner with his wonderful homemade homefries, corn and my favorite - Chocolate MOUSSE! I had to eat sugar despite all the baby diet books... we have to instill a love of Chocolate Mousse into this child :)

We exchanged gifts (he got me perfume for the first time in 16 years - wow) and commented on how we should enjoy the quiet for now because it's not going to last!

In the midst of new baby, I've been upfitting the new office. James & I drove over to the building so he could see the paint colors and the awesome light fixtures I picked out. Hopefully all this new responsibility will prove to help me be more productive and successful!

The story begins - February 12, 2008
After 10 years of dating and 6 years of marriage - that's 16 years of just the two of us, WE'RE PREGNANT!

Just after Christmas, I felt sick and thought I might be pregnant. But after two negative pregnancy tests, we rang in the New Year in Atlanta thinking it wasn't so. A week and two positive tests later, we couldn't deny it as the morning sickness set in.

Reality really took hold on February 1 when we saw the first ultrasound and Dr. Gunter at Blue Ridge Ob/Gyn gave us our due date - August 25, 2008.

Today - February 12, 2008 - we had our first trimester screening ultrasound at Duke Perinatal. It was amazing how much the baby was moving - the "wiggle worm" takes after it's mother, for sure.

So, here we go on a new journey together into parenthood!
