November 8, 2010 - A few cute stories:
Yesterday Shami asks Binny if he wants to make $2. Binny jumps at the chance and asks what he needs to do. Shami says, "All you have to do is give me a hug!". So Binny hugs him. Shami then goes running upstairs to get Binny his $2. He returns a couple of minutes later with one of our checks! He crossed out our name on top and wrote "Shami", wrote "To Binny" in the to field, wrote "200" in the number field, and "two dollars" in the amount field, wrote "hugs" in the for field, and signed his name. What a cutie pie!
The other day we went to the library and Shami picked a spy book. So on Shabbos I was reading it to Shami and Binny. They were asking why countries had spys because it sounded to them that spies were bad guys. So I trying to explain it to them by using an example involving Israel. Shami then says, "Well, Israel shouldn't need spies because they have Hashem". Wow, what do I say to that!
Dec 10, 2009 - Binny is really growing in math. He is now doing more complex numbers (ie. 23+32). He was really cute when he was trying to add 45+45. He kept saying, 40+40 is 80 and 5+5 is 10.. so....it's....hmmmm..." He got a little stuck when he needed to carry the one. But after a minute he figured it out. He loves doing math, he's always asking me to test him and make problems on paper for him to do. He just loves it! We're so proud of our little math whiz!
Shami loves his long payos and refuses to even have them trimmed when he gets haircuts. Well, I finally told him I would give him a prize if he let me trim them. So as soon as he came home from school he brought me to him bathroom, closed the door, and locked it. Then he sat on the counter and said, 'Ok Ima, I'm ready for you to cut my payos. But I locked the door because I don't want anyone to see". I only trimmed them an inch (if that), but he was so nervous. Poor boy, he just loves his long payos!
A few weeks ago we went to parent-teacher confrences. We, of course, got a great report on both boys. Binny's teacher was so impressed with what a kind hearted boy he is. She said, "yes, he knows his aleph-bais, and is reading, and of course his math is amazing. He's very smart. But his middos are just so special. I've never seen such a boy!" and Shami's Morah said he is so smart but he's not a show-off about it. He's so kind to the other children. There are a few children that are special needs in the class and while a lot of the other children tease these children Shami never does, just the opposite he always makes sure to include them and make them feel welcome". We were so proud of them we gave them one of their Chanukah presents early. What special boys!
9/3/2009 - Shami really absorbs everything we say. The other day Yisrael was getting frustrated over something and Shami says, "Abba, is that your Achilles heel?". What a sponge!
Binny has a natural talent for math. It just clicks for him. A few weeks ago I went to get money from the ATM. The boys asked me how much I was getting and I told them $100. Shami was very excited and wanted to see what $100 looked like. When I showed him he was a little disappointed and said. "Its just a bunch of $20 bills." Binny asked me how many $20 bills it was. So I told him to figure it out. He sat there for about 10 seconds then said. "Five!". I was so impressed, I asked him how he figured it out. He said, "well, 100 is like 10, and 20 is like 2, so I just counted how many 2s are in 10". WOW! Since then I've been asking him harder math questions than usual (but still staying in the 10s. ie) 30 + 40, etc.). And he always able to do it. What a math whiz!
7/14/2009 - Shami & Binny are now riding bikes with no training wheels. We're so proud of them. Shami just learned this past week, but Binny has been doing it for a few weeks now. They're getting so big! Recently Binny's been using the wrong word to discribe his feelings. Sometimes he says he's very "impressed", which to him means angry. It's so cute, I just don't have it in me to correct him. Now that its summer, the boys have been spending a lot of time outside. One of their favorite games now is to set up a road block. They take our caution sign and some cones and put a rope up the block the road. Then when a car comes they take down the rope and wave the person through. What imaginations! Recently I noticed Shami was walking around looking upset. When I asked what was wrong he told me that he was sad that Mashiach hadn't come yet. He went on to say that he wanted to do mitzvos but he couldn't think of any to do at that particular moment. Needless to say I found some mitzvos he could do and he was happy. Well, at least a little more happy...
2/14/2009 - Recently Shami has been having trouble falling asleep. Yisrael told him to try to count sheep. But every night Shami's imagination has put a wrinkle in the plan. After the first night he told us that he couldn't do it because the sheep were jumping over the fence so quickly that he couldn't keep up. The second night he told us he was unsuccessful again because this time the first sheep was so strong that he just ran through the fence and broke it, so all the other sheep just walked through. Hee hee, he's so cute!
We have started planning for Shami & Binny's birthday party, so I asked the kids who they wanted to invite from their class. (note: names have been changed):
1/25/2009 - I was listening to talk radio in the car and the boys were listening along I guess. Suddenly one of them asks, "Ima what's socialist mean?" I was caught a little off guard and didn't know quite how to explain this to two 4 years olds. So I told them its when everyone has the same type of thing, like the same kind of house or car even if you what something bigger. So Shami's response was, "If Obama does that I'm going to put him in jail!". Binny was quiet. About 5 minutes later Binny says, "Ima, those people have the same car as us, is that socialist?" Hee hee, what a cutie!!
1/4/2009 - Happy New Year! The boys are doing great and are growing every day. Binny can now count over 100 with no help and with no mistakes. He has quite a knack for numbers. Both boys are also great at simple addition and subtraction. We'll often ask them problems and they are able to solve them very quickly. Both boys can also swim with an innertube all by themselves. Hopefully over the summer they'll learn how to swim without anything, but they're never really around water, so considering that they're doing great!
Binny is doing wonderfully in school. We were hesitant to seperate them this year, but for Binny it has been a great idea. He has really come out of his shell and developed into his own person. He has many friends and his Morah has told us he has wonderful middos and is a real joy to have in class. She has also told us she has recommended Binny as a playdate to many parents because she feels Binny's good nature rubs off on other children. He also comes home with so much Hebrew and is learning so much.
Shami has blossomed into a very special boy. He goes to art class once a week and has become quite the artist. He also comes home with an amazing amount of Hebrew. Shami's Morah commented to us how suprised she is at the amount of knowledge Shami knows and how articulate he is. He is definitely a very special boy.
11/9/2008 - Shami & Binny really got into the election. Two funny stories: A few days before the election we toned down our comments because we knew Obama was going to win and didn't want the boys to be too upset by it. So Binny said, "Its good Obama is going to be the president because the President never sleeps and has a very hard job, so since we like McCain we don't want him to have such a hard job." He's so cute always concerned about his fellow man (or at least fellow men he likes. ;o)) The day after the election the boys ran into our bedroom and asked who the President was. We told them Obama. So they say, "Oh, did he kill Israel or not yet?". Wow, better be careful what we say around them!
10/30/2008 - Wow, so much has happened since I last wrote. Shami and Binny are now in Pre-K and they're both doing well. At first Shami had a little trouble being in a class without Binny, but he's adjusted nicely. We went to Israel over the summer and had an awesome time! We really miss our family over there, but it was great reconnecting and we can't wait to go back. Now, here are a few cute stories:
Recently Shami has been scared whenever I put him to bed. I asked him one night why he was so scared. This is what happened next: I was recently reading them "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss. For those that don't remember, its basically about a character that comes along to a beautiful place and destroys it in order to make some money selling a product made from trees. At the end of the book (when the air is filled with smog, the water is all muck from pollution, and there are no trees or animals left) Binny says "Wow, its a good thing that book isn't real!". I didn't have the heart to tell him it almost is real. :o( Shami and Binny have morphed into real boys! Every now and then they stop playing and start wrestling with each other (playfully). I don't know whats in the Y chromosome, its a real mystery to me!
7/20/2008 - Here are a few stories: There was recently a fire in the area and I was talking to Yisrael about it on the telephone. I didn't want to scare the boys so everytime I wanted to say fire I just spelled it instead. After I hung up the phone Shami comes over to me and says, "Ima, why were you talking about fire?" Wow, can't get anything past this kid. We recently went to an amusement park and the boys absolutely loved it! They even went on some roller coasters. They had a great time! The boys have really gotten into jumping on the couch and doing crazy tricks lately. Binny has become quite proficient at doing somersaults, and he's currently working on doing backwards ones. Shami can do somersaults sometimes but not everytime. Unfortunately he gets very upset about it, but we just encourage him to try try again.
1/28/2008 - Shami has really gotten into "Uncle Moishy" lately. He's always walking around singing songs. He really gets into the songs and is very animated. Its very cute. Shami has been staying dry overnight for quite a while now. For months we keep asking him if he wants to sleep with underwear instead of a pull-up, but he always wanted the extra security. But for the past two weeks or so he's been wearing underpants overnight the majority of the time. We're so proud of him!
12/30/2007 - Today we went to Liberty Science Center. The boys had a great time. One funny story: We went to an exihibit about magnets. I told him that the negative side liked to be with the positive side. So a few minutes later he was showing Binny and he said, "Look, the negative one likes the affirmative one." Hee hee, so cute!!
12/22/2007 - A few quick updates; Binny has gotten very good at math recently. He's able to add and subtract often surprisingly quickly. Shami also is starting to do it, but Binny usually beats him to the answer. Shami has become an amazing artist. He colors in the lines and is able to draw amazing pictures. He loves coloring and drawing especially with markers. We believe Binny has recently gone through a growth spurt. He was always fairly even with Shami but now you can see he's taller. We bought the boys large cardboard blocks for Chanukah. They LOVE them. And they build such elaborate castles, barns, boats, etc. What a great toy! Over Chanukah the boys lit their own Menorah each night and made the brocha very nicely. We're so proud of them!
11/18/2007 - A few quick stories: Yisrael and I have been teaching CPR classes some evenings to make some extra money. I was sitting with the boys looking at a toy catalog. They wanted a pricey toy and I told them they couldn't have that one because it was too expensive. Shami quickly replied, "Ima, you teach CPR all the time, don't you have enough money yet?!" Boy, is he sharp! Binny's had a little cough the past few days which is worse first thing in the morning. He woke up this morning and said "I've had a lot of coughs for so long, why isn't Hashem making me feel better?" I keep assuring him he'll feel better soon. The boys often complain when I have to go to work and I try explaining to them that I need to go so we can have a nice house to live in, food to eat, etc. I don't talk that much about going to help children because I don't want them to get jealous, be upset, etc. The other day Binny once again asked, 'Ima, why do you have to go to work all the time?" I again explained that I need to make money. He then replied, "I thought you had to go to help sick children". Wow, that boy has a heart of gold!
9/18/2007 - We've been so busy lately and we've really let the website go. But here are some quick updates. In August Binny started wearing tzitzit. Both boys can now read some words and are becoming great spellers. Binny has become really adventerous lately. He now goes up to dogs and pets them (he used to run the other way). Shami now complains that he doesn't want to play with dogs (when we see them), but he doesn't cry or run to be held. Both boys now go to a new school. They seem to really like it. Some of our old neighbors go there, so its great that the boys have a chance to play with their old friends. The boys love playing pretend. Their adventures are quite complex and very fun to watch. The love learning parsha, mitzvos, hebrew words, and about the holidays. They are especially excited about Simchas Torah and have been practicing dancing with the Torah. They also love to help around the house. They love spraying the Fantastic on the table or counter and wiping it up. They also love sweeping & mopping. It just causes more headache than help, but its the thought that counts! One quick story. For Rosh Hashana I made a cake and it was sitting covered on the counter. I was sitting in the kitchen making a shopping list when I hear chairs moving around. I get up and see Shami moving a chair. I ask him what he's doing and he says, "Ima, you just go back to writing your list and don't worry about it". Sure enough he pulled the chair to the counter and tried to grab some cake. What a character!
8/7/2007 - So much has happened since our last update! We moved to our first house!! :o) The kids adapted very well and are happy. Our backyard is currently under construction and the interior is a constant work in progress, but we're getting there. Because of the move and all the improvements we haven't done as much fun summer stuff as we would have liked, but recently we went on a few family trips. The boys really love going on rides. They like the little kiddie rides but they are also becoming adventurous. They recently went on 2 different kiddie rollercoasters and the tilt-a-whirl! They loved them! Yay, now I have someone to go on fun rides with!!! The major summer news though has got to be that Binny is now potty trained! Yay, Binny!!!! First we had a potty party to celebrate the big occasion, and then we removed his diaper. He was a bit anxious at first, but after going once we loved it! He still has accidents every now and then, but he's been doing great! We are so proud of him!
6/8/2007 - Last night Shami kept waking up. Yisrael kept going in and I slept though the whole thing. So in the morning Yisrael told me about it. Shami must have been listening because later in the morning Shami was being very difficult. I asked, "Shami, why are you so kvetchy today?". He prompting responded, "Ima, I didn't sleep well last night!". How quickly they learn! A few days ago I asked Shami what color we should paint his room. He told me, "Pink!". Oh boy, how am I going to get out of this one? Shami does this new thing when he gets upset. He knows he shouldn't hit other people, so now he winds up like he's going to slap someone and then he hits himself or objects. This morning, I asked him to do something which he didn't want to do. So he walked up to the front door and started hitting the bricks of the house and started saying "Ima, I'm going to knock your house down!". Binny started to yell, "Shami it's brick! It's brick, you can't knock it down!".
5/20/2007 - Its been a while since the last update. The boys are great. They love riding their tricycles (in fact last week they rode them more that a 1/2 mile to Aunt Tsipi's house and then back home!), going to the park, and lately they have been more interested in playing with other children in true interactive play. They love singing songs and are getting a lot better about singing the correct lyrics. They LOVE drawing, and I've caught them recently drawing where they shouldn't (walls). Binny can now write his name and Shami continues to write his. A few days ago, we heard Shami scream "Jesus!" (!!!). We asked him where he heard that and he said, "Grandma says it all the time when Pa's driving." Have to be careful what you say around these sponges!
