Stories

March 7, 2009- I know it's been a little while since my last update, but to be honest, there isn't much to report.  We are just enjoying every day with Lucas and marvel at his never ending development. My birthday came and went, with Jim and I spending a very nice dinner out alone.  We were all set to go see a movie too, but at the end of dinner, we just wanted to come home and see Lucas.  My birthday this year also happened to coincide with Fat Tuesday, and Lucas was lucky to attend Grandma Barb's Annual Fat Tuesday parade.  I hear it's just as fun as New Orleans, minus the shanigans, and it's over by 3:30 pm.  Lucas didn't want to wear his beads, so his buddies Katelyn and Natalie wore his instead.  He did like shaking his maraca and tambourine.

Lucas, once again, got his ashes on Ash Wednesday, and promptly tried to wipe them off of himself, and me.  He was a very good boy in church.  I think he is finally getting the hang of what proper church behavior is.  He does walk around a bit, but knows that he has to be relatively quiet and does it, most of the time :0)

We loved our snow day this week, and loved the really warm weather as well.  I was kind of disappointed that we got a snow day in March.  Most schools celebrate the 100th day of school, and my school is no exception, but when the 100th day passes, I feel like we are in the home stretch.  At this point, I just want June to be here, and I want to be home for the summer.  I do love my job, and I have the best class of children ever, but I love being home with Lucas even more.  Especially now, since he's my little buddy.  I really do relish the days when I'm not in a hurry to get out of the house and the only thing I'm thinking of is how to spend the day at home. That being said, there's nothing I can do it, and we all enjoyed a well deserved and needed pajama day! Lucas rode his zebra, drew on his writing board, played in the sink, read books with Mommy, and of course, played Play Doh, his favorite thing!  It was just one of those days to take it easy and relax, and as far as I am concerned, you can never have too many of those types of days.

Today, we were lucky enough to attend our friend Aiden's first birthday! It was a Barnyard Bash, so of course, Lucas went dressed for the occasion in his overalls, flannel shirt, and bandana.  Aiden's Mommy and Daddy made an incredible barn cake (see photos). Lucas loved spending the afternoon outside and played to his heart's content.  He blew bubbles, went on a slide, in a car, and even used some little golf clubs! But I think Lucas' favorite part of the day was his chocolate cupcake.  Lucas ate every last morsel, and had the face to prove it.  He even fell asleep in the car with his last bite mushed in his hands.  It was so adorable! When he finally fell asleep, he must have been thinking about playing leap frog, because that's exactly what he looked like.

I just can't believe how much he is learning every day.  We are in the process of working on colors, and he know them fairly well.  He has really taken an interest in coloring with crayons, and does it every day.  We just have to practice remembering that crayons are for paper, not tables, floors, or refrigerators.  Thank goodness those people at Crayola are so smart! He is also following 2 and 3 step commands, and mostly eats by himself.  He knows how to use a fork and spoon, but his hands are usually faster.  He eats with both hands, one with a fork or spoons, and the other just plain old finger food.  Lucas has an amazing appetitite and loves trying new foods.  We couldn't be more proud of him!

We are looking forward to attending Lucas' second St. Patrick's Day Parade, and seeing the Easter Bunny again! But we will be sure to enjoy each and every day, and cherish every moment...He'll only be this age once, and I don't want to miss a thing, time just passes too quickly!

As always, thanks for checking on us...Keep coming back! XOXOXO

February 17, 2009- HAPPY 2ND HALF BIRTHDAY LUCAS WILLIAM!!!  That's right everyone, Lucas is officially half way to being two.  Honestly, Lucas has his moments where is already a terrible two..he can have quite a temper when he doesn't get what he wants, and is constantly trying to bite if he is upset.  We are working on it, but our doctor said this is all developmentally appropriate.  He knows what he wants, but doesn't know what to do if he doesn't get it.  I guess it's all in a day's work for a Mommy of a toddler.

Lucas spent his half birthday with his friends at Grandma's house.  He wore the special half birthday shirt that Mommy made, and then had a great half birthday party with Mommy, Daddy, Grandma, and Grandpa!  Lucas once again had a half birthday party hat, half birthday plates and napkins!  Of course, no half birthday cake would be complete without half birthday cake.  It didn't look pretty, but it was delicious. We sang happy half birthday to Lucas, and his cake had one and a half candles on it! Lucas was also treated to some very nice presents from Mommy and Daddy, and Grandma and Grandpa.  Gma and Gpa got Lucas a magnet set for the fridge that looks like a fridge!  It will help Lucas to learn his letters, foods, and colors (although he know those pretty well).  Mommy and Daddy got Lucas a Sesame Street tool belt (we figure he could help around the house), and a Sesame Street book with a real button, snap, and zipper in it.  Lucas had a wonderful day that ended with snuggles from Mommy and Jack's Big Music Show!

I've been saying for quite some time that Lucas seems to be learning something new every day.  And today was no exception, he did 3 new things today!  As we were telling Lucas we were going to sing Happy Birthday, he blurted out Happy!  We asked him again, and he said it again..so we can now add Happy to Lucas' vocabulary.   Instead of a book tonight, Lucas got yet another treat and watched "Jack" before bed. One of the songs fetured included loud and soft songs.  As they got to the soft part of the song, they put their fingers to their lips and said sssshhh, and what did Lucas do? Yep, he ssshhh'd right along with them.  I couldn't believe it! Then, during one of the Lori Berkner songs, they count backwards from 5 to 1, and as they got to one, he showed us one with his finger!  Lucas has known how to do 1 since his REAL birthday, but he has never done that so randomly..Amazing

In looking back at the past 18 months, I can not believe how much has changed.  How my total focus in life has changed, and how NOTHING is more important than Lucas.  My life revolves around my boy, and I woulnd't want it any other way~he is my life.  It's hard to believe that something weighing less than a Thanksgiving turkey, who does not have the ability to speak, or even hold their head up can change things so profoundly.  It pains me to know that all children do not get the same love and attention that Lucas does.  If your children don't get that from you, who will they get it from?  I just feel so blessed to spend every day with Lucas.  We all love him more with each passing day and are mesmorized by his ever increasing developments.

Thanks for checking on us!  XOXOXO

PS- I can't think of anything important going on for the next few days, so there may not be any new updates..but you never know, everyday on 36th Street is an adventure! But you have to admit, I have been making good on my resolution..

February 16, 2009- The past two days have been a whirlwind of activity!  Sunday was a great day because we celebrated Aunt Carol Lee and Mommy's Birthday, so we had a brunch at Aunt Sue and Uncle Duff's house.  Lucas had a wonderful time playing with Caroline, Christopher, and Maxwell.  It really is amazing to see the three of them together, and I am sure they will grow up being very close to one another, just like I was and still is with Sue and Rob.  Poor Caroline does have her hands full, but she is such a wonderful little girl and really loves her brother and cousins very much.

After brunch, we  dropped Grandpa off in Bayonne, then Lucas, Mommy, and Grandma went into New York to see Elmo Makes Music! It was Lucas' first stage show..and he LOVED IT!!  I came armed with a bag of candy, just in case, but he stayed put with very little fidgeting around.  As soon as he saw Big Bird, he started to point and yell BIRD!!!  He also clapped and danced to the music.  It was such a wonderful experience for us all, and we had a great time.  I can't wait to share more and more of the experiences with our precious little Lucas.

Today was busy as well.  We started off with a trip to the doctor's for Lucas 18 month old well visit.  He is growing and developing perfectly (well, duh).  He is meeting all developmental milestones before schedule and excelling with his language.  Lucas does not like the doctor's office, and cries even before we get into the building.  I know he associates the doctor's office with being poked, prodded, and given ouchies.  He's just not himself when he goes there, but that is okay, it's the only place, he really dislikes.  Then it was on to shopping.   Lucas is becoming a real pro at it.  Now he can put stuff into the cart if we hand it to him.  He gets upset when Mommy and Grandma want to put in the fragile stuff, he just doesn't quite get it yet.  He was such a good boy all day, and we are so very proud of him.

I am also happy to announce that Lucas has achieved (in my teacher opinion), a huge milestone today.  When we got home from shopping, Lucas and I were resting on the couch watching an episode of Jack's Big Music Show.  He was drinking a cup of water and holding his beloved Knuffle Bunny.  Lucas took a drink, held up Knuffle Bunny, and gave Knuffles a drink too!  That's right, he has begun to use his imagination!  Then, as I was washing Lucas' hiar during bath time, he took rubber ducky, and started to wash ducky's hair.  I am thrilled, and can not wait to see the many adventures we have in store with Lucas and his imagination..I will certainly keep you posted on that.

Well, the stomach bug Lucas had passed it way through the whole house.  I was on the verge last night, but the Imodium nipped it in the bud. My Mom, Dad, and Jim were not so lucky.  Fortunately, everyone is feeling much better.  We also have two large, empty boxes of saltines in the garbage tonight.  HAHA

Check back tomorrow as Lucas offically turns 1 1/2!  Thanks for checking in on us!

XOXOXO

PS- We would also like to extend our sincerest congratulations to Uncle David and Aunt Martha!  The are expecting a little Malkowski in late July or early August! They aren't going to find out what they are having until the big day...but boy or girl, we wish the best and send them our love..But Lucas won't be the baby anymore  :0(  (and we are really ok with that)..

February 14, 2009- Happy Second Valentine's Day Lucas!  As you can see, Lucas had a wonderful second Valentine's Day..He went to a birthday party for our friend Olivia, she turned one, and had a party with everyone who loves him the most~ Mommy, Daddy, GG, Grandma, Grandpa, and Eva.  Lucas also recieved (and gave) lots of presents...He looked completely adorable in his Valentine's Day shirts!

Unfortunately, Lucas' second Valentine's Day didn't start off to well.  About 10pm on Friday evening, Lucas threw up for the very first time. We had to change the sheet, pj's, mattress cover, and everything.  Even poor Knuffle Bunny wasn't spared.  Then from 10 to about 1 am he threw up four more times.  My heart ached as I held him and saw his little body go through that.  When we finally settled down in my bed, which was covered in towels, and with Daddy on the couch, Lucas slept peacfully through the night.  Fortunately, his stomach bug was short lived (just the way they shoud be), and this morning he was up and raring to go! He had a banana and 1 1/2 waffles for breakfast.  We were apprehensive, but it agreed with him, and he was fine all day!

Well, tomorrow is Elmo Makes Music, and brunch with Caroline, Christopher, and Maxwell!  Be sure to check back tomorrow or Monday for another update...

Be SURE to stop by on Tuesday, as we will be celebrating Lucas' SECOND HALF BIRTHDAY!!!!!!

XOXOXO

February 11, 2009- I know it's been almost two weeks since my last update, but with this walking, running, talking little human tornado on our hands, time is of the essence!  I think every day that I need to update the site, but it seems that I just never get around to it.  It also just seems like Lucas gets bigger and learns something new each and every day.  His words are coming by the handfull, and he just seems to understand us more all the time.

As you can see from the photos, Lucas had a busy weekend during Superbowl weekend.  He started off to a trip to Woodbridge Center where he met a cow, rode on the carousel, and a choo-choo.  He then celebrated his second Superbowl with Grandma, Grandpa, Mommy and Daddy.  During the first half  (which is all Lucas was awake for), he kept saying football.  He would stop, point, and say it, and now, even when he sees a helmet, that what he says also! He's so perceptive.  Last weekend was pretty boring, shopping on Saturday and I had to work on Sunday, so no great photo ops!

The new word Lucas has recently learned is bird.  We are still working on what sound a bird makes, he's gotten once or twice, but not consistently yet.  Lucas also knows that birds fly in the sky and outside. He also knows that Big Bird is in fact, a bird.   However, his very good friend Katelyn taught him how to make a monkey sound! It is soooo cute...and he gets a big monkey smile on his face when he says it too!  I laugh just thinking about it.  Lucas' new hobby is playing in the sink. Every night after dinner, he pulls his chair over to the sink and says "water".  Bath night or not, Lucas spends at least a half hour playing in the sink. Of course, I am right there with him, but I can't believe the wonder and awe he has in something so ordinary! He loves, filling up cups, dumping the out, seeing the way he can make the water go in different directions.  It's fascinating just to watch him.

Lucas' favorite tv show right now is Jack's Big Music Show on Noggin.  He gets to watch about a 1/2 of television every after noon when we all come home.  Lucas says Jack, points to the television, and then says WOOF because Jack has a dog named Mel, and all Mel does is bark!  The other day, he even brought the DVD case to me saying "Jack"!

I look at might sweet Lucas with wonder and amazement each and every day.  Sometimes I still can't believe he's mine, and that I have been blessed with such a wonderful little boy.  I'm waiting for someone to say, ok, you have to give him back to his real Mom and Dad now!  Trust me, he's mine, 20 hours of labor proves it, but my goodnes, I am just so in love with him!

Upcoming events include, our friend Olivia's Birthday, Valentine's Day, Elmo Makes Music (Lucas' first stage show), Lucas' Half Birthday, and my birthday.  Just more opportunities to spend time with our little guy.  Even bad days are wonderful when you come home to gorgeous face and smile.  Nothing in the world is as great as hearing him shriek "MOMMY" when I come through the door.  I know I will miss seeing him run toward me, hands in the air, with that infectious smile.

As always, thanks for checking on us..Happy February!

XOXOXO

PS- You'll notice that the background song is Valentine Girl by New Kids on the Block.  You can sustitute the words and make it Valentine Boy, but you have to give me credit for finding a song with Valentine in it..If you have any other suggestions, please leave it in our guest book!  :0)

January 30, 2009- Yet another update!  Still no pics, but with the Superbowl this weekend, I'm sure to be adding some!  I wasn't kidding when I said Lucas is learning something new every day.  Just today, he learned to say the word phone (as he grabs, turns, and runs with my cell phone), but yes, he said phone.

There are two other things that Lucas did today as well!  While Lucas' best girl Natalie was telling Knock Knock jokes to him and my Mom, Lucas ran over to the door and started knocking on it.  So just to be sure, Grandma and Natalie did it again, and sure enough he ran back over and knocked.  He also showed Jim and I that he could do it when we got home from work.

When Lucas got up from his nap today, he was playing and doing his usual thing.  And of course, doing what Lucas does best, he pooped.  When my Mom asked him "Lucas are you dirty?" he said yes (which he has been doing), but then when right over to the spot where she changes him and laid down.  She was in total disbelief!

It just seems like everything is happening all at once now, and I want to keep track of every little detail.  I am amazed that he is literally learning something new every day! Do you think it's too early to start multiplication facts? Reading novels? We'll have to see, but what is for sure is that we are really enjoying watching our little baby turn into a little boy, and we love him more with each passing day.

Check back soon!   GGGGOOOOOO.....I don't know and really don't care, root for whoever you want...  :0(

XOXOXO

January 29, 2009- Just a quick update for all of the Lucas fans out there (no pictures today if you can believe it)...Our little guy seems to be learning more with each passing second.  While we were playing yesterday, Lucas picked up a book and said "Mommy, book"..Another two word sentence, and for the first, time book (I guess all that reading is paying off).

For those of you who may not know, the plane that crashed into the Hudson River was hauled to Bayonne for inspection and we were able to see it today from one of the industrial areas by the water front.  As we were there, Lucas was looking around (we were in the car), and he pointed to the water and said water.  Lucas has been saying water, but that is always in reference to his cup of water when he wants a drink.  Never, something like a large body of water.  I was shocked he made the connection, and articulated that.  I was so proud of him.  He was also able to point the flag when we asked him where it was.

As Lucas was relaxing this after noon, and watching an episode of Jack's Big Music Show, he noticed that one of the groups on the show was playing drums.  What did Lucas do? He went right over to the playroom and took out his Dr. Seuss drum and started to bang on it.  I was floored, and Jim and my Mom weren't there to see it, no one would believe me!  I couldn't believe it!

Lucas has also learned how to say the word banana (not perfectly clear), and Jack from Jack's Big Music Show!

Thanks for checking on Lucas!  He is a very lucky boy to be loved by so many...

Enjoy the Superbowl!  (Not sure who we are rooting for, not that it matters)...

XOXOXO

January 26, 2009- GUNG HAY FAT CHOY (or Happy New Year in Chinese of course)!  Lucas' rang in the Year of the Ox in true Lucas fashion...dressed in red, wearing his Ox hat, and eating Chinese food for the very first time!  I know most people don't celebrate Chinese New Year, but those of you who know us, know we will celebrate anything to take some cute pics of Lucas! So here you go..

Lucas also celebrated his first Presidential Inauguration with Grandma and his friends Natalie and Katelyn.  Lucas even got to take a picture with President Obama, Vice President Biden, Michelle Obama, and Dr. Jill Biden!  What a lucky boy to have photos with such important people, and Lucas wore red, white, and blue to celebrate this great day in our country's history! Maybe someday Lucas will be taking the oath of office to serve our country, but he should probably stop throwing things in the toilet first!

Lucas continues to amaze us each and every day.  He adds new words to his vocabulary all the time, and just the other day (Saturday, January 24) he said "Mommy, Baby" when looking at our ferrets.  It was his first two word sentence!  I couldn't believe it.  Lucas also knows how to point to his hair, head, eyes, nose, mouth, belly, leg and feet!  He just can't seem to get the hang of his ears yet, but we're working on it.  I just can't believe how quickly the time is passing, and that my little boy will be 1 and 1/2 in a few weeks.  I am eagerly anticipating summer this year, I can't wait to spend every day with my special little boy.  I am so fortunate to be able to be with him so much, but of course, I wish I could spend every day with him (at this point, I'd settle for a snow day of two)...

Keep checking back for more of Lucas' adventures.  February promises to be full of fun!

XOXOXO

January 19, 2009- Well, here we are more than half way past the first month of the year, where has the time gone?  We have been enjoying some much needed quiet time at home, getting into our jammies and early and staying put.  Jim and I really love speding time with Lucas, doing HIS things...whatever that may be, sometimes it's just cuddling and reading, othertimes, it's Play Doh, and yet other times it loud games and other stuff.  We both so look forward to spending time with him each and every day.  We are also so grateful that we both have wonderful work schedules that allow us to be home with Lucas for many hours before he goes to bed!

I am still just so amazed at how much Lucas is learning every day. He understand so much, just today, we pulled up to my Grandmother's house, and he looked out of the window, pointed, and said GG!  It left me speechless...and he had the biggest smile on the adorable little face, like he knew how happy it made me.  Somedays, I just want to hug, kiss, and snuggle with him all day because I love him so much.  Like I've said before, I miss my little mush you couldn't do anything but lay on me and try to eat his hand.  I do love watching him learn and grow, but I want it to slow down a little, I'm not ready for him to be a big boy yet.

Unfortunately, Lucas had another fever this past Friday, but it only lasted one day.  I was sure I was going to spend the weekend with him sick and feeling mushy, but we didn't.  We did stay home just to be catious.

Of course, we are super upset with the Giants, let's just leave it at that, I can't go any further.

As we approach tomorrow's historic inaugration (I should probably learn how to spell it), let's all take a minute to remember how truly fortuate we are to live in the greatest country in the world.  Tomorrow, a man will take office who, I believe, can really change our world, make it better for our children, and future genterations.  I see things so differently now because of Lucas, I see the future and what I want it to be so that he can have nothing but the best. It gives me chills to realize how hard someone like Barack Obama has worked to get to where he is now, and what he has sacrificed to be our leader.  I can only pray that he has the wisdom to take us where we need to go, and that he and his family are safe and happy.  No matter who you voted for, embrace the new direction our country is going in, and ask yourself, how can I make this a better world?   I firmly believe that the best thing I can do is to be a good Mother, regardless of any other accomplishmets I have or will have, Lucas is the greatest of them all, and if I mess up raising him, nothing else is really that important.

Check back soon for updates on our precious boy..We have some fun stuff coming up like Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, Lucas' SECOND Half Birthday, and Mommy's birthday!  All wonderful days to take time and celebrate life with our sweet Lucas!  We're celebrating the Superbowl, so don't mention it!

Love to you all!  XOXOXO

PS- We also want to extend our Congratuations to Aunt Megan and Uncle Larry...who got married on January 10.  Megan was the most beautiful bride I have ever seen, and Larry had a look of untold happiness on his face...We were so lucky to be able to share in their special day with them.  We love them very much and wish them all the happiness that life has to offer!

January 2, 2009- See everyone, this is resolution I am keeping up with this year! I will be updating more often...Lucas celebrated his second New Year's with Mommy, Dadddy, and our friends Kevin, Erin, Micayla, and Aiden, at their house.  Lucas had a wonderful time playing with Micayla and Aiden, and even stayed up until 1am.  Of course, he fell asleep as soon as we got into the car...he slept til 8, but then took a 3 1/2 hour nap on New Year's Day.  We are so very lucky that Lucas is such a flexible little boy.  He goes with the flow, and never complains.

Sadly, when we arrived home on New Year's we found that our beloved ferret Bear had passed away.  He was sick and had gotten worse in the past few days, but we didn't expect or want him to go without us there holding him.  However, our darling Bear was always a bit of a loner, he was never much of a cuddler, and did things his own way, but the thought of him in his last moments without us is truly heartbreaking.  Thankfully we got some great photos of Lucas and Bear last Sunday, so we will always have those memories.  But we know that he is with our Bojangles and Loki, we truly miss him!  And so does Lucas, he call the ferrets Baby, and for some reason, Bear was his favorite.  All day yesterday and today, Lucas kept looking for Bear, calling "Baby"!  Last night, in his sleep, I heard him calling "Baby", Lucas have never done that.  I went in to check on him, and he was sleeping but he was definitely saying it.  Our little Lucas is definitely and animal lover, and shows our ferrets the same love and affection that he does with us. I think he really beleives they are part of our family and cares for them so much.  He may be a little too rough with them, but he does love them and checks on them frequently.  I'm sure he will continue to be an animal lover as he grows up and that is fine with me as long as that does not include reptiles, amphibians, or anything else that does not have fur...

New Year's Day was spent lounging around the house in our jammies (Mommy's favorite kind of day), and watching football.  As a matter of fact, Lucas' knows someone who played in the Rose Bowl for Penn State.  His friend Jerome's Daddy plays for Penn State.  It didn't work out great for Penn State, but it was fun watching!  We were all in bed early, and slept great now that the hustle and bustle of Christmas is over.

Today was a wonderful day! Mommy slept in until 11 (I miss that being a daily occurance), had an appointment with Dr. Serafino to check Lucas' ears (all clear), and then we headed down to Point Pleasant to Jenkinson's Aquarium!  They have a special display during the holidays called the Sea of Lights and we had a blast..Lucas loved going to the arcade for the first time, he even tried to play Skee ball..Daddy tried the claw machine and lost..but he had fun trying.  Then it was on to the aquarium.  Lucas LOVED watching the fish, but had to be reminded that the fish don't like it when you bang on the glass.  He absolute favorite were the seals.  He had so much fun watching them from above the tank, and espcially loved it when one of the started slapping the water and got us wet! He was having so much fun, that I think he might have dove in with them if he could have.  I had to walk away from the tank because he was getting so excited, and trying to climb over the wall.  A little boy even told me "Please be careful your baby doesn't fall in"...Lucas also met the Jenkinson's mascot, made a craft, and listened to a story.  We really had such a great time...It is times like these that I truly enjoy~ seeing the joy in his face, the glee in his voice, and feeling the love in my heart.

Words can not describe how truly blessed we feel for having Lucas.  Even when times are bad, life is great because of him.  Just when I think I can't love him anymore, he does something and makes my heart melt.  I look forward to each and every moment with him, and still sometimes, can't believe he's mine.  That smile, those eyes, the chubby little fingers, and the curly blonde hair, he is just the absolute greatest thing that has ever been given to me.  I want these times to last forever, for him to always hold his hands out for me to pick him up, but I know that they won't.  I do look forward to his growth and development, but will take time to cherish every moment I can now too.

Developmentally, Lucas is doing great! He has learned how to use his shape sorter that Santa brought for him, and loves to do puzzles.  Had about 15 words in his vocabulary, and communicates his thoughts and feeling is a number of ways.  We are working on not screaming when he feels frustrated, but I'm sure that will stop when he can use real words that we can understand.  Lucas can also have a complete conversation with you in "Lucas-ese", we speak back to him in English, and he seems to get it.  He can also follow two step commands, and can identify a tremendous amount of everday objects like pot, pillow, blanket, dog, and his favorite, cookies.  He also knows all of the hiding spots for the cookies (mostly where the screaming thing happens)..Now that it is New Year's he is on a one cookie per day regimen, although I think when he is down at Grandma's that rule doesn't quite apply.  I can't believe the stuff he knows at only 16 months old!  We are now working on colors, shapes, body parts, and animal noises..We'll keep you posted.

I know sometimes my updates are very long and too detailed, but to be very honest, I include all of these details so I can remember what we did. Time passes so quickly and it's easy to forget the little things. I write so I don't, so when Lucas is in college, or out on his own, I have something to look back on and remember...what I will always consider to be the best time of my life...my days with my little boy.

Happy New Year to you all! Thanks for checking in on us..Keep looking for updates!

XOXOXO

December 28, 2008-  Oh my goodness, a whole month has passed since my last update! So much has happened, but yet it has gone by so quickly.  I can safely say that with Christmas behind us, Lucas has had a wonderful month!  Unfortunately, the month started out with two very bad notes, during the week of December 1st, Lucas had a bad viral infection with fevers of 103 to 104, and since this was Lucas' first time really being sick, aside from a cold, I really terrified me.  All he wanted to do was lay on me and sleep (no complaints in that department), but just to see Lucas not himself and so miserable was heart breaking.  That Saturday (December 6th), Lucas, my mom, and my self were involved in a car accident.  It was not my fault and no one was hurt, but we were on our way to Breakfast with Santa, but wound up in the emergency room.  (See photos.)  We went to the ER to be on the safe side, Lucas was, of course, buckled tight into his seat, but he can't tell us if anything hurts.

Those two events passed, and then we were on to getting ready for Christmas!  Lucas got to me Santa for the first time this year at the Bayonne Firefighters Museum along with Uncle Sean, Aunt Gen, and Eamon!  It was amazing to see how much the boys have grown in the past year, we are looking forward to making this an annual tradition..Lucas did great with Santa!  He was a little apprehensive at first, but didn't cry a bit!

When we met Santa "for real" at the mall for his Christmas picture, Lucas blew us all out of the water with how happy he was! He climbed right on Santa's lap and gave us all the biggest smile.  As a matter of fact, the people running the Santa photos said, they will probably display his photo as one of the best of the season! (Well, duh, I could have told you that...)  It was such a joy to watch, and it really brought tears to my eyes, we just love him soo much!

In between shopping and preparing, we have really enjoyed experiencing the joy of Christmas with our sweet little boy.  He has learned how to "help" Mommy and Daddy make cookies, really loved watching all of the great Christmas shows like Charlie Brown, Rudolph, and Frosty, and seemed to look forward to reading a new Christmas book with Mommy each night (honestly, I literally have more than one book to read every night in December)...We did have some issues with the Christmas tree...Lucas doesn't quite get the concept of look don't touch yet, but we did tell him that every time he gets too close, Santa would leave a piece of evidence by putting tinsel on his clothes, and that's how Mommy and Daddy would know!  It seemed to work a little, but I noticed the other night that almost the bottom third of our tree is tinsel-free now!  HAHAHA

One thing Lucas really loved doing this year was driving around and looking at all of the pretty lights!  He loves to point at them and say "oooohhhh", it's soo cute, and sometimes I drive around a little extra, just to hear him say it!

Lucas also had a really great time seeing all of his cousins this month.  Jack, Drew, and Lucas will prove to be quite the threesome in the coming years.  They were all so adorable together, but my cousin Melanie and I did not really have a relaxing time at the cookie swap!  But that's ok, because it was so much fun watching the boys play together..Lucas got to see Caroline three times this month, and Christopher and Maxwell twice...Princess Caroline celebrated her 5th birthday on December 22nd, and of course we saw everyone on Christmas!

Unfortunately, Decmeber ended almost as badly as it started.  My dad was readmitted to the hospital on Decmeber 23 with another severe leg infection.  After several tests, the doctors have determined that the infection has not gotten into the bone (which is a very good thing), but he will need to be on IV antibiotics for probably the next 6-8 weeks.  Because of Christmas, I haven't had the chance to really sit and talk to the doctors too much, but will get a better idea of things tomorrow. We are hoping that my dad can just go to the hospital twice a day for the medicine instead of having to stay there.  One thing is for sure, my Dad and Lucas miss each other terribly.  We have gone to see him at the hospital, but it's just not the same and Lucas knows something is wrong, he doesn't want to sit with my Dad or really play, he's very cautious and observent of what's going on around him.

I guess that's it~ you all know the Giants won their division with home field advantage in the playoffs and a bye week, Dallas is OUT (how bout them Cowboys Daddy?)...Lucas also had his first ear infection, but  you would never know it, he had a little cough and I brought him to the doctor for that, turned out to be the ear infection..Not too bad 16 months and this is the first one!

Not sure of what our plans are for New Year's yet, last year, only Lucas and I made it til midnight, we'll hope for better this year! Aside from my many other resolutions, I resolve to update more often in 2009!

To all of our family and friends who check this site, we wish you all a joyous New Year, filled with health, happiness, love, and all the best things life has to offer...

Please leave us a message so we know who has been stopping by, and be sure to check out the photo page for many new updates of our sweet Baby Lucas (and the car accident)....

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

XOXOXO

PS- The musical selection this month is Billy Joel's version of Auld Lang Syne, he is, was, and will always be one of my faves!

November 27, 2008- Happy Second Thanksgiving Lucas!  Lucas had yet another day of great fun celebrating Thanksgiving with the people who love him most.  Of course, the day was very long for Mommy and Grandma because, once agian, they braved the cold and crowds to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!  Believe or not, we were up at 4:30, left Bayonne at 5:15, and found our seats on 68th and Central Park West by 6:00am.  As we say every year, it was the parade ever.  You can not help to feel like a child when you see the balloons pass by and you'd be hard pressed not to get a little teary when you see Santa Claus.  I have it on good authority that Santa stops all of his work at the North Pole on Thanksgiving, and then Mr. Macy himself sends a special plane to get Santa so he can proclaim to the whole world that the Christmas season has arrived!  Then of course, it's back to the workshop to prepare for Christmas Eve.

As great as the parade was, I just kept thinking how excited I will be to take Lucas to his first Macy's Parade.  Maybe not next year, possibly 3 years old, but definitely by 4.  I am amazed at the sights every year, I can only imagine how he will feel.  I know I will beam with pride as I watch his precious blue eyes widen in excitement with each passing balloon and float, and that I will once again truly believe in the magic that is Santa Claus because he will know, that Yes, Lucas there really is a Santa Claus because he will be within a few short feet of him.

At home, we enjoyed a lovely dinner with GG, Grandma, Grandpa, and Aunt Carol Lee.  Lucas sat between Mommy and Daddy, and they took turns picking up Lucas' "leftovers".  The best part of dinner, as with every dinner, was dessert.  Lucas was treated to a very special Pilgrim cupcake from Aunt Carol Lee.  Describing it in words does not do this story any justice, so you really must check out the photos, they speak for themselves!  Let's just say Lucas' bath water tonight looked a little muddy.

Lucas is our everything and he is the greatest blessing we have ever been given.  Saying we are thankful for Lucas is an understatement...we love him more with each passing day!

On this day of Thanksgiving, be sure to take a moment out of busy life to really think about those who mean the most to you.  Where would your life be without them? Be grateful for the gifts you have been given and remember that no matter how difficult life is for you, someone, somewhere always has it worse.

With love, gratitude, and warmest Thanksgiving wishes to you all!

XOXOXO

November 9, 2008- Hi everyone!  Here are the photos that I promised last week.  As you can see, Lucas has been very busy.  He went to vote with Mommy and Daddy, visited Mommy at School, and has gotten into some mischief at home.  He just gets bigger and better every day, and it continues to amaze us how much more we fall in love with him!

Lucas is also on YouTube again, this time he is dancing to New Kids on the Block's Summertime (it's his favorite song).. here is the link:

Thanks for checking on us! XOXOXO

October 31, 2008- Happy Halloween!    As you can imagine, Lucas had a wonderful and VERY BUSY  second Halloween.  The day started off with Lucas visiting with me and my class at Midtown, Lucas loved hanging out with the kids, and they were wonderful with him! I was very proud of all 22 of my children today.  Once he woke up from his nap, Lucas went Trick or Treating with Grandma, and his friends John and Natalie.  Then home to hang out with his friend from across the street~ Julia (she was adorable as Elmo) and our wonderful neighbors, then back out Trick or Treating with Mommy and Daddy, where we visited with lots of friends as well!  We have so much candy right now, that my stomach hurts just looking at it~ yech!

Lucas was such a good boy all day, he was really into the day and didn't mind his costume one bit!  He really enjoyed seeing so many children in costumes and loved being outside almost all day...As I have said before, seeing the world through his eyes is amazing, I couldn't believe how excited I was to come home today and go Trick or Treating with him, and I know as he grows older, Halloween will be met with even more anticipation!  I am savoring every moment and am grateful for the chance to do so.  I think I enjoyed this Halloween more than any of the others EVER, and I am already looking forward to next year!

Unfortunately, the camera batteries didn't fare as well today, and are now resting comfortably in the charger..I will post pictures tomorrow!  As for Lucas' costume, he was a bunny rabbit, but not just any old bunny rabbit~ he was a MAGIC rabbit!  His stroller magically trasformed into a magic hat, and I became a magician, and Lucas was, of course, my bunny in the hat!  We couldn't get past one block without someone stopping us and paying us a complement...it was sooo cute.  Truly a day to remember...

As always, thanks for checking on us, we love you all!

XOXOXO

PS- I am trying to find a Thanksgiving song to put on the site..so far all I have come across is Adam Sandler's Thanksgiving song, I'll use it if  I have to, but would rather not..let me know if you find anything!  The pumpkins are staying because we do eat pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving...so close enough.

October 23, 2008- Well, it's been a little bit since my last update.  Things are going great!  As always, Lucas continues to amaze us every day and we love him more and more every day too..He's walking everywhere, climbing too, and yesterday, even tried to run (it didn't go too well).  We really can't believe it's time for his second Halloween.  As you can see in his pictures, Lucas is going to be a bunny rabbit this year.  I figure that as long as  I can pick his costume, I will.  That luxury will be gone in a few short years.

I guess that's about for the update, we've just been busy doing regualr stuff (and I've been slightly obssessed with the New Kids on the Block website..lol) and enjoying every minute with our precious little boy.

You can also check out Lucas on You Tube:

Happy Halloween! Check back next week for Lucas' Halloween Adventures...

Thanks for stopping by! XOXOXO

PS- Lucas also got his first haircut!  :0(  I haven't loaded the pictures yet, but I will soon, he really looks like such a big boy...

October 5, 2008- As the beautiful autumn weather approaches, each and every day with our little Lucas get better and better.  We just can't believe how much of a personality he has and how much he is developing each and every day.  He hasn't quite mastered walking yet, but Lucas is walking most of the time.  Lucas walks until he sees something he wants or can't quite figure out how to get somewhere, then he drops to his knees and crawls.  We enjoy watching him walk so much, but we really love hearing him talk!  He has about 7-10 words in his vocabulary and really tries to communicate.  I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Lucas is running everywhere and having a full conversation.

We went pumpkin picking yesterday at Wightman's Farms in Morristown.  Despite very large crowds, we all had a great time.  We went on a hay ride, picked some pumpkins, Mommy and Daddy did Pumpkin Sling Shots (soooo much fun), and ended the day with some apple cider and donuts.  We are just so grateful to enjoy these wonderful family days together.  There is nothing better than just being with our little boy and seeing the world through his eyes.

As always, keep checking back for updates of out little "pumpkin"! Love to you all...

XOXOXO

September 29, 2008- I know I have been slacking again, but there just never seems to be enough time or enough energy! Now that we have a WALKER on our hands, there isn't much time to even take pictures any more.  That's right Lucas has offically started walking...I would say he started taking three to five steps about three weeks ago, but since last Sunday, he has gone from a few steps to getting half way across the house.  Last week I would say he was about 35% walking and 65% crawling.  Now I would say is closer to 60% walking and 40% crawling.  He's so funny, he walks fine until he realizes he wants something, then he drops to all fours and crawls.  Lucas also walks a little on the drunken sailor side right now, but who doesn't now and then!  I can't believe that this milestone has come as well, a year ago, it seemed so far away, he could barely hold his head up, now he's walking!

Another interesting Lucas development is that Lucas now has 14 teeth!  I noticed the other two Thursday at dinner.   My poor Lucas has been chewing on everything and miserable.  I went into his room to check on him the other night, and he was laying in a huge puddle of drool...gross!  Teeth have not been kind to my little boy...and I really wish I could take the pain away for him.  I'll be happy when teething is over...Hopefully, when he gets his wisdom teeth he'll be in college, and can have a beer or two..I can't even think that!

Overall things are going great.  We celebrated Jim's birthday on September 18th.  I was feeling very Martha Stewart and even made a cake, and I decorated it with Cowboys stuff.  Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age, my Jim is such a great Dad, that's it the least I can do.  He also got a Cowboys hat and jersey (it almost made me sick to buy it, I was actually embarassed, and to make it worse, the clerk asked Lucas if he was a Cowboys fan too, he didn't know what he got himself into..lol).

We then went to Lucas' friend John's birthday party on September 20.  We had a really great time, Lucas got a football painted on his face AND watched a clown show.  Unfortunately, Lucas also sustained his first walking related injury.  He fell into a plastic lawn chair, and hit it just the right way because as soon as he got up, there was an lump and bruise.  He cried a bit, and by the time I got ice, he was ready to play again.  It broke my heart everytime I looked at it.  I checked on him about every hour that night...

The BEST event of the past few weeks (Lucas and Daddy might say otherwise) was the New Kids on the Block concert on September 23rd.  It was, without a doubt, the best concert I've ever been too!  They were soooooo great, it was truly magical.  I just couldn't believe that after all these years, they elicited high pitched screaming and utter giddiness on my part.  I was really excited before the show started, but as soon as they hit the stage, I went nuts, as did all of the other ladies at the show.  It was one of those nights I didn't want to end, and one that I will cherish forever!  I could go on and on about it, but I won't because I know some of you aren't Blockheads (you don't know what you are missing)...Just understand that if you ask me about I will gush for a very long time~**consider this your warning**~  NKOTB will just always have a special place in my heart.  I can also say that I enjoyed it more now because, in one of those rare instances, I know what I should have known then....OK, I'm really gonna stop now, but wow, it was fantastic!

Keep checking back for updates...October promises to be a busy month, with Halloween preparations, Grandpa's birthday, Eamon's birthday, pumpkin picking, and Halloween (and maybe NKOTB again on the 27th~keep your fingers crossed for me)!

As always, thanks for checking on us, and don't forget to appreciate the beauty of nature this time of year.  Fall always takes my breath away...It's my second favorite season for obvious reasons!

XOXOXO

PS- Of course you have noticed that I have changed the song to Raffi's Five Little Pumpkins, this is one of my Mom's favorite Halloween songs (yes, there are others), and we have been teaching it to Lucas...So in honor of the best decorator anywhere, we dedicate this song to Grandma Barb! Love you...

September 11, 2008-  For our family, September 11th was always a special day, even before 2001.  Today is GG's Birthday, and as we have done before and since, we celebrated one very special Mom, Grandma, and GG!  Jim made his famous sauce and meatballs, and we capped off the evening with ice cream  cake! As you can see from the photos, Lucas and GG had a great time celebrating her 92nd Birthday!  The pride I feel when I see how excited Lucas and my Grandmother get when they see each other is amazing. You can just see how much they love each other but looking at them.  I just feel so fortunate that Lucas is able to spend so much time with his GREAT Grandma....and I know she feels the same way.

I can't believe seven years have come and gone since that day.  My life will never be the same, unfortunately that was almost as much a defining moment as having Lucas.  But what September 11th 2001 took away from me~ optimism, safety, fearlessness~ having Lucas brought back to me.  I am optimistic for his future, I feel safe knowing that if I can live throught that day, I can get through anything, and I know that I can be fearless so that I can protect my little boy....It made me reevaluate my life and really appreciate the things that matter most.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

XOXOXO

September 9, 2008- I know it's only been a day since my last update, but once again, we have exciting Lucas news to share! Lucas now has a dozen teeth!  As I was feeding him dinner tonight, which consisted of 5 raviolis, a vegetable, and desset, I saw a little white on his gums, I first thought it was some cheese, but when I saw it agian, I investigated and sure enough, it was a tooth!  Once I found the one of the left side, I felt the right side and there it was.  These two weren't two bad, a little Motrin here and there, and some Orajel.  I think Lucas is finally getting the hang of this teething thing.  Hope everyone is having a great week, and hanging on to these last few moments of summer!

Look at it this way, every day of winter is one step closer to summer....Can you tell I'm a teacher?

Lucas would also like me say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the best Godmother in the whole world...AUNT SUSAN!  We love you and hope you have a great birthday!

XOXOXO

September 7, 2008- Well another week has come and gone, and it seems that Lucas has grown bigger and smarter by the day.  Going back to work wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I really look forward to seeing Lucas at the end of the day~ DON'T get in my way  at 3:00; and besides, it's only 177 school days til summer vacation ;0)

Of course this weekend was jam packed with activities!  On Saturday, we went shopping in the morning, and the hunkered down at home anticipating the arrival of Tropical Storm Hanna...We made sure we had plenty of snacks, diapers, milk, diapers, and water....And diapers, did I mention those?  To tell you the truth, I enjoy being stuck inside on days like that or when we get those blizzards in the winter.  It's so cozy knowing that you can't get anywhere and can stay in your jammies all day.  Sunday was a super busy day...it started with church at 9:30, home for a nap, we met up with Mark, Kim, Kyle, Kira, and Michael at the Bayonne HS ice rink to watch a game Kyle was playing in, then on to our church picnic, then onto Counsin Eddie's birthday party!  WHEW...what a day! Lucas had a great time at everything, and was soooooo good all day long.  He loved watching the hockey came, and had a ton of fun playing with Eddie, Luke, Sean, and Logan.  What a perfect weekend...

As I was watching Lucas play with his cousins I had an interesting thought, if I had had a girl, she would be so lonely and left out.  All of the baby's on both sides of our family right now are boys! Poor Lilly would have no one to play Barbies or Tea Party with!  But Lucas will always have a bevy of buddies to play trucks and action figures with! It will be so wonderful watching all of the boys grow up together...It will be loud but great...Besides there is always number 2 right?

Thanks for checking on us!

XOXOXO
