July 9, 2007 - Week 30

As Jolene is now comfortably in her 30th week, she became terribly concerned about the need for a crib and dresser for the baby.  After expressing her concerns to Danny (who, by the way, did a good job of acting equally concerned about such a matter, though deep down inside he was chuckling at Jolene), the two took to their laptops to do some online shopping.  They now have ordered their crib and dresser, and Jolene is thrilled!  The nursery is coming together, Yippee!

Baby Christian continues to be more and more active in Jolene's belly, and she is seeing a pattern in his schedule and is beginning to be able to determine the positions he prefers.  Danny reads children's bible stories to baby Christian on a regular basis, and Christian seems to really respond to Daddy's voice!

July 3, 2007 - Week 29

Danny and Jolene went camping with the Hekman's over the weekend up at Los Osos on the Central Coast.  It was a beautiful location, and they had a wonderful time with their great friends (and learned that Racoons are smart little boogers!).  Next camping trip will include their little baby boy!

After much discussion and consideration, we FINALLY decided on a bedset for the baby!  Here's a picture:

Now we probably should start thinking about getting a dresser and a crib for that bedset!

With Jolene entering her third trimester, she and Danny decided it was time to tour the maternity ward at UCI, where they plan to have little Christian.  After navigating around on the tremendous campus, the two ended up at their destination to the cries of a newborn, and the smiles of friendly nurses.  After the tour, Jolene's mind was certainly at ease, as she now is very aware of where to go when the moment comes, and is confident that the staff and facilities will be able to serve her well.

The two then headed to Lamaze for their first class.  They snickered at pictures and stories of women doing physical harm to spouses overstepping their boundaries during delivery.  They practiced relaxation breathing, and they both became well aware that little Christian will be here before they know it.  As they de-briefed after class, the two commented on how perfect God created the husband/wife team.  Danny has already had to help Jolene cope with ailments, and lead her in times where she was panicky, and Jolene already is familiar with Danny's calm voice that helps her to relax in the midst of chaos.  The two are so glad to have each other, and to be going through this as "one".  God is good!

Let's talk family, shall we?  (I tried to update the family section to include this info to no avail, so how about we make it a story?!)

Grandpa and Grandma Flores currently live in Nuevo, CA with their dozens of chickens, birds, cats, dogs and horses.   Christian will certainly enjoy visiting them and their Animal Kingdom!

Grandpa and Nana Meyer currently live in Montana, on an abundance of acreage of Montana wilderness.   Grandpa enjoys his countless projects (including building a new deck most recently), and Nana can't sew and create enough!   With the open space and many things to do, Christian will have quite a bit of fun visiting his Meyer grandparents!

Uncle Scott, Aunt Monica and Cousin Mike life in Hemet with a million dollar view and a backyard built for parties.   Mom and dad Flores suspect there will be many memories made at the pool parties and visits here!

Uncle Russ and Aunt Dee live in Temecula where they are enjoying their first year of marriage.   They are the Aunt and Uncle with style: cool clothes and even cooler cars.   Christian will love hanging with them!

Uncle Jake lives in Hollywood with Gizmo, finishing his degree at the Musician's Institute.   When he isn't creating music, he is climbing buildings / radio towers and tempting fate.   Mom and Dad Flores hope such curiosity and enjoyment of danger isn't genetic!

Uncle Matt and Aunt Jess (Danny and Jolene's dear friends) live in Yucaipa with their first child, Cookie, and are expecting Christian's first cousin in November.   The Flores' and the Hekman's will most likely enjoy many playdates and camping trips with their little ones!

Uncle Chris Wu (Danny's former roommate and dear friend) currently lives in Germany where he has been stationed for the next few years as a JAG lawyer.   He'll get to know Christian on Skype for now.

Aunt Loi Loi Vuong (Jolene's former roommate and dear friend) currently is planning her stint to China with CCC.   Though in his first year Christian will get to know her via pictures and perhaps Skype, once she gets back to the US they will most likely scream, laugh and beat up on mommy together!

Uncle Matt and Aunt Claire (Danny and Jolene's dear friends) are currently planning their return to Seattle after living in the OC for the past two years.   They'll be preparing their new place for visits from the Flores clan, as mom and dad Flores hope that Uncle Matt's artistic gift and Aunt Claire's brilliant writing will wear off a bit on Christian.

Needless to say, Christian is going to be born into a very diverse, loving and wonderful family!

Little Baby Christian is growing and becoming more powerful in his activity.  Today momma suspects he will be a runner like his daddy; he's been dancing on her lower stomach (with kicks at her bladder) all afternoon.  Oh boy, it's a good thing daddy has a good pair of running shoes!

Nana Meyer (or "Montana Nana" as she likes to be called) has now returned home after her 6 days visiting with Danny, Jolene and baby Christian.  She came down to visit and take care of the mother of her first grandbaby, and Danny and Jolene truly enjoyed having her visit.  How could they not?  She insisted on doing the dishes, helping Danny re-stain a filing cabinet and bookshelf, and giving Jolene daily foot massages.  Just having her around was a precious blessing.

On Monday night Christian had been surprisingly active (in fact, he was twisting...a very new and odd sensation for Jolene), and Nana leaned over to talk to him.  As soon as she put her hand on Jolene's belly, Christian responded in moving nearer to it.  She then spoke softly to him, and he wouldn't stop moving.  Jolene suspects they will have a very special relationship.  :-)

Nana Meyer is in town visiting and helping out with getting things ready for the nursery.  She makes everything about the pregnancy more fun and exciting!  However, momma Jolene just read that she is only 15 short weeks away from delivery and almost had a panic attack!  YIKES!  Nana Meyer says Jolene will be ready to have the baby when she gets an even bigger belly...Jolene certainly hopes so!

Little observation: When momma gets hungry now, she gets HUNGRY!  Look out!  She's giving Danny a run for his money now!  ;-)

This past weekend has been filled with some incredible highs and lows.  Through it all, Christian has been very even-keeled and enjoys kicking momma regularly.  On Saturday momma finally got a new car (her 1997, two-door Honda Civic just didn't have enough space for the carseat and all the baby things that would be necessities).  Momma and Daddy went down to CarMax and traded in her fun Honda for a little bit more of a grown-up car...a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica!  Though Danny has offered to drive various places since the two got the car, Jolene just can't give up the keys!  They can't wait to go to Costco now, with all that room who knows what they'll come home with!  Momma read this past weekend that head to toe Christian is approximately 11 inches long, and over a pound.  She certainly can feel the little guy growing!

We've started working on clearing out our office to transform it into a nursery!  Over the weekend we picked up beautiful bookshelves (an adventure in itself to get them home in our honda two-door), and then Daddy Dan put them together, transferred all the books into the shelves (now in our bedroom) and took out the old bookshelves.  More space means more room for baby!  Yippee!

Daddy also felt Christian kick for the first time.  After breakfast the little guy was super active, kicking all over the place.  When Danny put his hand on momma's belly, his entire arm moved when Christian kicked him!  Wowsers...the kid can move!

We also finished our registries at Babies R' Us and Target.  Let me tell you something...when both Danny and Jolene left they agreed that they had never seen so many pregnant women in one place in their lives!

Mother's Day Surprise

Though Jolene is yet a mommy-to-be as she carries her little boy in her womb, it didn't stop Danny from treating her like a queen for Mother's day.  As she was getting ready for church, he came in with a gift and TWO cards (one filled with coupons for chores from him, and the other card from baby Christian).  He bought her some practical pregnancy essentials, along with a fun Bebe Sounds system that allows mommy and daddy to listen to the baby's heartbeat / kicks / hiccups.  Danny tried out the sound monitor right away, but couldn't hear anything other than Jolene's heartbeat and tummy growls.  The morning was continued with a *hot* breakfast sandwich and latte from Starbucks (Jolene's craving, and something she hasn't had in months), and a trip out to Nuevo Community Church where the pair felt at home and oh-so-loved.  It was a fantastic day!  (Baby Christian remained active much of the day, complete with some very apparent kicks!)

This post is from Danny's blog www.runfaith.com, I just thought it would be nice to hear about the baby from daddy's perspective.

Christian Daniel Is Growing!

Well, I think we're around week 22 of pregnancy (Jolene keeps track of the days with greater exactness). I have grown accustomed to addressing the little one. I pray for my son daily. I ask that God will grant him a life of the knowledge of truth and the inclination to live up to the name we have given him. Although, I will say that he does have something going for him by the fact God is giving him to us. I ask for his and Mother's complete health in delivery. At least twice a week, I bring out my guitar and sing songs for him. Sometimes Mom sings along. Everytime the music starts, Jolene feels his movement. Be it from fright or delight, it is a welcomed sign of his health. In fact, he moves vigourously while we worship in church. I read tales to him from Hans Christian Anderson which also makes him move. Tonight, with my hand on Jolene's belly, I felt him move for the first time during our reading. Keep on growing stronger little man.

According to books and various websites, baby Christian is now approximately 6-6 1/2 inches long.  He is responding to mommy and daddy's voices, and likes it when daddy reads and sings to him.  He is active in mommy's tummy in the morning, after eating, and very active at night when mommy needs to sleep.  (Jolene is the morning person, Danny is the night person....we suspect our little Christian is the nightowl like dad.)  It's a good thing we are coming up on Cinco De Mayo, as momma is craving mexican food like crazy!

We are now at the 20 week mark of the pregnancy, and we finally got to see our little one in an ultrasound again.  It is addicting, seeing this little one!  We were blessed to find out that our little baby is a boy!  Mommy and daddy teared up watching the little guy moving around.  He is nice and healthy, with a strong heart and strong legs.  Our cup runneth over.

Mommy's waist once slender has now grown dramatically.  Baby Flores is growing too, as during church on Sunday, the moment the pastor got up to speak this little child started doing somersaults, and didn't stop the entire service!  Jolene felt it more this time than ever before, and so she suspects that there is less space for baby to play in, meaning it is growing moment by moment!  At this point, according to books, the baby should be about 5 - 5 1/2 inches long.  Last night daddy was talking to baby and put his hand on Jolene's belly.  The baby immediately moved up and was pressing against daddy's hand.  Though Danny couldn't feel the baby doing so, mommy certainly delighted in such a sweet moment.

One week to go before (hopefully) finding out what the gender of this little child is!  Mommy and Daddy cannot wait!

Baby Flores is growing a little every day.  Yesterday there is suspicion that it was a good growth day, as momma was in a bit of pain in her now cantalope sized baby home!  Baby responded to Daddy's voice last night, and also to music at church on Easter (in its little fluttering way).  It is an active one, this child!

Official date of next appointment is April 25th...exactly 2 weeks from now.  Yippee!

Daddy-to-be and Mommy-to-be have seen the baby via sonogram and ultrasound a couple of times since they found about about it.  This baby seems to be full of life...moving around, kicking, swinging its arms, opening and closing its mouth, and almost dancing within its momma!  It is apparent that this little one may be a little bit on the active side once it is born, and might even have some rhythm!  Mommy and Daddy's next appointment is at the end of April, to find out whether this is a little boy or a little girl!

Danny and Jolene found out about their new little joy on their second year wedding anniversary.  Needless to say, it was a surprise, and none more surprised then daddy (he almost fell over)!  After a tearful prayer and thoughtful conversation about their blessing, the two were off to celebrate over an italian dinner (a food Jolene could stomach her entire first trimester).
