10/19/09: It has been a long time since our last update. We have been busy with work and school and catching up with Miss Lilly. I will try to post more later after I finish updating pictures.

July 21, 2009
:
Summer has gone by in a blur!
This past weekend we went with Jeff's family to
Williamsburg
to the Wasserbaun Waterpark.
It was a lot of fun.
Lilly loves the water-she wasn't too sure about the waterslide though.
We also went to the Iowa Children's Museum.
Lilly's favorite part was the grocery store.
Lilly had tubes put in her ears today.
She did such a good job.
She didn't cry when the nurse came to get her.
She looked a little scared, but she waved bye and blew us kisses before they took her to surgery.
She was only gone for about 20 minutes.
She was a very mad girl when she was brought back into her room.
She was supposed to eat and drink before we could take her home. She was extremely thirsty, but it took about an hour to get her settled down to where she would eat something.
She really wanted to go home, she grabbed Jeff by the finger and led him out the door.
I am in the process of uploading pictures from the past month.
Don't forget to sign the guestbook and let us know how you are too!

June 28, 2009: It has been a long time since our last update! I sent in to have it mailed to me for her scrapbook again. We have had a great summer so far. It has been great being able to spend more time as a family. Lilly is a very busy girl and loves to be outside. We have went on a lot of stroller, wagon and bike rides. I think Lilly gets bored with me at home, so we stop in and visit our daycare friends about every week so she can play with them for a little while. I am in the process of adding pictures today. There are several from the pool-she loves to swim!

April 20, 2009:
Our baby is official 1 year old!
We had her birthday party yesterday afternoon at our house.
She was such a little ham!
She loved all the loose balloons on the floor and running around with the other kids.
She ate a whole hot dog and ended up with ketchup clear up behind and in her ears...lol.
She clapped when everyone sang Happy Birthday to her.
It took her a minute to figure it out, but eventually she was double fisting her cake.
She loved all of the presents and the attention.
I think if someone would have kept pushing her she would have rode in her bug mobile all night.
It didn't take her too long to figure out if she stands up and leans she can knock her chair over either.
I'm glad she didn't figure that out while she was downstairs on the concrete floor.
She partied so hard she was ready to go to bed at 7:00 last night-and normally she is a night owl.

March, 5 2009:
It has been a long time since the last update!
Our laptop crashed, and we lost several pictures and had no internet for a long time. A lot has happened lately.
Lilly has been to the doctor several times for earaches and ear infections.
However, we were glad to find out yesterday that there was no fluid on her ears!
We had taken her to see another dr. in town to have cranial manipulation and between that and a lot of prayers, something has seemed to help.
At her 9 month check-up Lilly weighed 20 lbs. 6 oz and was 26 inches long.
She was sick all last week and has finally come out of it.
She was running very high temps and having trouble breathing/wheezing.
She still has to take breathing treatments this week, but she seems to tolerate them better than she did last week so it isn't so bad giving them to her now.
She finally has two teeth now!
They decided to come in right after she was sick.
She has been taking steps for a month or so now.
Last night when I got home from extended day at school she took 12 steps to get to me. Lilly is also a great help around the house now.....she will put anything on the floor for you that is in reaching distance, and if you are folding laundry she gladly grabs it and hands it back to you to fold again.
She thinks it is a great game.
She is also putting anything and everything into her mouth.
I think her favorite food right now is yogurt or spaghetti-o's-she would eat it all day if we let her.
We hope everyone is enjoying this warmer weather! I will try to add more pictures tonight.
January 1, 2009: It is taking forever, but I am adding more pictures. Christmas was fun this year with miss Lilly! She really liked all the paper. I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and time with their families.

December 10, 2008:
Yesterday school got out early because of the ice and snow.
It was nice getting to spend some extra time with Lilly.
I had already scheduled a doctor's appointment for Lilly because she has been a little fussy and not feeling good again.
She weighed 19 lbs. 10 oz.-she is getting so big!
She does have ear infections again.
I am worried that my poor baby is going to get them every time she tries to get teeth.
She has been chewing and drooling like crazy, but still no teeth.
Yesterday afternoon she crawled (more like an inchworm) to get to the remote on the floor and she held onto the couch and took a few side steps all by herself.
She really likes all the boxes under the Christmas tree.
There is one particular box with Richard's chocolate covered cherries in it that she keeps getting and has partially unwrapped three times now.
Jeff said, "She isn't stupid, she knows which one has the candy in it!"
LOL.
Comments Maybe Lilly is like her momma who one Christmas went upstairs in the dark at our house and came downstairs with two handfuls of candy and said, "Hee, hee." ...One of many precious memories of Christmas past. - Grandma Erma

December 1, 2008: I tried to update the pictures section and add a new album and ended up duplicating some of them and getting the order all messed up. I will have to try to figure it out later, I am calling it a night. Everyone will probably be seeing some of these new pictures again soon in our Christmas cards :)

November 30, 2008:
I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving and safe traveling.
It was nice to have a break and spend some time at home with Lilly.
She is getting so big.
She has now mastered rolling and gets into anything on the floor.
She is also really trying to pull herself up.
She got up on one knee and successfully got the remote off of the footstool before toppling over this weekend.
We got our tree put up and decorated on Friday.
Lilly wasn't as impressed by the lights like I thought she would be.
The first time she saw it she really looked it over, but now she acts like it's always been there.
She is however insistent on getting into everything that's under the tree.
She is rather proud of herself when she gets under it and rolls up in the tree skirt or grabs one of the stockings to chew on.
I don't know what we will do to keep her out of it when I actually get some presents wrapped and put under it.
The kids at school are sure excited about the snow on the ground; Jeff definitely wasn't so excited about it.
When we were at Trueblood's this weekend visiting family that was back for Thanksgiving, Grandma Debbie and some of the great aunties gave Lilly some snow to play with.
They said she was pretty sober and didn't get too excited about her
first snow.
Jeff and I were downstairs and didn't get to see it.
Anyone that knows my cousin Amelia (O'Donnell) Riney, she has a little boy Scott and she keeps a website pretty updated about him:
http://www.babyhomepages.net/rineyfamily/index.php
We got to see him the past few weekends, but haven't gotten to hold him since he has MRSA staph and we don't want Lilly to get it.
Hopefully he will be better around Christmas and we can finally get our hands on him!
I am working on getting some pictures uploaded and scanned so I can update the pictures section also.

November 4, 2008:
We had quite the time on Halloween.
Her chubby little cheeks really filled out the hood of her costume!
As cute as I thought her costume was when I bought it, I had not thought of us having to take it on and off a hundred times to get her in and out of her car seat when we went to show everyone (she wouldn't fit with her wings).
By the end of the night Miss Lilly was quite tired of being dressed and undressed-it didn't help that it was a very nice and warm day and I picked out a warm outfit (isn't there some unwritten rule that it is always supposed to be cold and raining on Halloween) however, it was a great evening and she lit up every time we took her in and she was the center of attention at each stop.
I don't know what we are going to do when she actually wants to go trick-or-treating and get candy.
It took us 2 ½ hours just to go around and show all of the family her costume.
We went to
Arbela
first and we weren't there 15 minutes and we were being called from the aunts in town to hurry up so they could see her.
We had our 6-month check-up with Dr. Davis on October 24
th and she was
18lbs. 8oz. and 24in. long!
She had to get immunizations again, 4 shots and 1 drink.
It is always so hard to hear her hurt cries.
I make sure Jeff goes with me for these appointments, because I can't stand to hold her still while they give her the shots-so that is always his job.
We have started giving her baby food now.
We started with squash and that was definitely quite the experience.
She spit it out and turned her head and wouldn't open her mouth.
It was so funny that we got out the video camera and kept making her eat it so we could record it.
We are still working our way through the vegetables, but so far sweet potatoes and carrots seem to be her favorites.
She is trying to get teeth again, so she is chewing and drooling like crazy.
She is starting to develop quite the personality.
I have a basket that I put all of her toys in, and she loves to sit up beside the basket and pull things out of it one by one.
It is so fun to watch her.
She will take them out and inspect them, maybe put them in her mouth and then drop them to the side to grab another and start all over.
She still isn't rolling from her back to her stomach and it is hard to get her to spend time on belly/back because she wants to sit or stand up all the time-Jeff thinks she is going to skip crawling altogether and go straight to walking.
She would sure like to, she likes to stand and hold on to the couch or hang on to your fingers and take a few steps.

October 3, 2008: September flew by for the
Frederick family.
We were busy with football games, weddings-Jeff building cabinets and starting our garage.
September 10th we had our first Parents as Teachers session with the new teacher Stephanie Shalley. Lilly was wide awake, jabbering and showing her all of her tricks. She rolled over, was cooing and laughing, and even let out a few squeals for her. She had a toy phone with her that we tried to play some listening games with, but all Lilly wanted to do was try to chew on it. She has been working on her first tooth for about two weeks now. I noticed that one corner was finally poking through, but about two weeks later it went back down (or else her gums are so swollen you can't see it anymore). I will add some recent pictures of her to the pictures section. You can really see how her birthmark is "growing" like the dermatologists said that it would. They think that by the time she is 5-7 years old that it will have gotten much smaller if not gone away altogether. Lilly has adjusted pretty well to going to daycare, but she still won't take very good naps there. Mom said she thinks Lilly is afraid to miss something because she will only sleep for 10-15 minutes here and there. I still haven't gotten the hang of getting around for school and daycare in the morning. It would help if I came to school at the same time every morning, but some mornings I have hall duty or breakfast duty that I have to be earlier. Lilly is still sleeping through the night, which has been wonderful. One of the fifth grade teachers has a 3 month old and she isn't sleeping through the night and boy does she look tired some days! I guess we have been really lucky with Lilly! We had to take her to the doctor for her eye, it was all swollen and getting yucky green stuff around it. The doctor said that it was a blocked tear duct and was probably all related to her trying to get teeth and messing with her sinuses. We had to put medicine in it for a week (which Lilly loved getting about as much as we liked doing) but it is all better now. We are going to stay plenty busy this year with it being Caleb & Betsey's senior year. Lilly has been so good at all of Caleb's football games, she loves being outside and looking at all the people and listening to the cheers. At the Rock game in Kahoka she really liked watching the flags, balloons and fireworks.
If you leave a comment on a picture-don't forget to add your name!

August 25, 2008:
Today we had Lilly's 4-month check-up with Dr. Davis.
She weighed 15 lbs. 6 oz. and is 24 in. long.
She had to drink medicine and get four shots-two in each leg.
We both did much better this time.
We had a bottle ready and fed her as soon as the shots were done and that helped settle her down a lot faster.
We came home and she took a little snooze, but has been an overall happy baby the rest of the afternoon.
Jeff and I were both expecting a grouchy girl, so it has been a nice evening.

August 21, 2008:
Today has been quite an eventful day for miss Lilly!
This afternoon school got out early, so I stayed and visited with my mom and Betsey when I went to pick up Lilly.
While I was there Lilly was playing on the floor and I got to see her roll over for the first time!
I was very excited to see her.
Betsey and I both let out a loud surprised sigh and scared her when she did it, but we were both very surprised.
The Antique Fair is going on this week up town, and tonight was the baby contest.
Lilly was in the group of 4 to 7 month olds and won second place!
I will post pictures of her tonight.

August 17, 2008: I tried to add a video of Lilly splashing in the tub, but it said there is an error in the formatting and it won't let me upload it.
I added it to dropshots instead:
http://www.dropshots.com/ejfrederick
Lilly starts going to daycare every day on Monday. We took her to get her picture taken yesterday at Wal-Mart and they looked really cute-can't wait to get them back.

August 7, 2008:
Yesterday we had one of our childbirth and beyond visits.
Lilly weighed 13 lbs 15 oz. and was about 22 inches long (she was very wiggly).
She is getting so big and is alert and awake for most of the day.
She is really cooing all the time and trying her best to tell us something.
She loves to be outside.
I try to get walks in with her whenever possible, but it hasn't been that often lately with all this hot weather.
Today we went and helped Aunt Betsey with the slip-n-slide at daycare.
The kids really enjoyed it.
I took a suit for Lilly and the other baby at daycare Ryan so they could put their feet in the sprinkler.
Lilly was pretty sober and didn't seem to care too much for the water.
I will try to add pictures from today later this afternoon.
July 18, 2008: Sorry for our long hiatus! I sent in to have the website sent to me as a pdf to print for her scrapbook, and that took longer than I thought it would. A lot has happened since our last update! We took a little vacation and went to see our friends the Stott's in Salisbury. They have a new little boy Levi who was born May 7th. We took a day and went to Long Branch Lake in Macon and went swimming and laid out on the beach with the babies. Lilly and Levi didn't really like the water (too cold), but Serena had a big umbrella that worked great for them to lie under so they didn't get sunburns. We took Lilly to the dr. in Columbia to follow up about her back and were relieved to find that she just has a large birthmark on her back and everything internally is intact! Jeff went to see an optic nerve specialist and we found out that part of his optic nerve is dead/weakened, but the dr. did say that it wasn't something that would get worse. He said his vision was stable now, and although surgery couldn't correct his vision it could fix it to replace his glasses. He told us to bring Lilly back when she is three-four to check on her since it is hereditary. I went back to the urologist to do some follow up tests and we were thrown for a bit of a loop when they scheduled me for surgery the next day! Miss Lilly had to have her first bottle of formula, which she wasn't too sure about, until Grandma Frederick brought us our supply of milk that I had pumped and stored at home. I ended up having to have four incisions in my stomach, the bottom of my left kidney reconstructed/rerouted and a stint left in for a month. The nurses were great; they brought up a bassinet from the nursery and made up the other bed for Jeff so that we could all stay in my room. It was a rough week or two (I couldn't lift Lilly for a week) so we had a lot of help from family while Jeff went back to work. It has been a long month, but I am finally feeling better now that I got the stint removed last Wednesday. Lilly had her two-month appt. with Dr. Davis on June 23rd. She weighed 12 lbs. 1 oz and was 20 ¾ inches long. She had to drink medicine for one of the vaccines and did such a good job. She kind of smacked her lips together and took forever to get it all down, but she never did spit it out. She also had to get three shots, two in the right leg and one in the left. Jeff held her down on the table while the nurses gave them to her, and I couldn't help but cry with her when she let out her hurt little cries. We had given her Tylenol before the appt. and came home and took a nap, I was afraid to wake her up to give her the next dose since she was sleeping....but she was a very fussy girl the rest of the afternoon, She did sleep all night after we gave her some more Tylenol. I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer. It has definitely gone by fast for us. I am dreading going back to school and leaving Lilly. She is really starting to coo and talk. The other night we put her to bed on her stomach and when I went to get her out the next morning she was on her back, however we have yet to see her roll over she has done it at least once. She has been sleeping through the night since she was five weeks old. I have a meeting at the school July 22nd, so Lilly will spend her first day at daycare and away from me next week!

May 21, 2008:
Today was Lilly's one-month check up with Dr. Davis.
She weighed a whole 9 lbs. 10 oz. (and I was worried that she wasn't eating enough!) and was 20 ¾ inches long.
Her weight and length were at the 50
th percentile, but her head circumference was at the 10
th.
She has been spitting up a lot lately.
Dr. Davis said that breastfed babies normally don't spit up much, and if she is a lot it is probably because I have been over feeding her...and since she has gained so much, he told me to try to stick to feeding her only every 3-4 hours.
We are going to Kirksville tomorrow to get her pictures taken (hopefully she cooperates).

May 9, 2008:
Today Lilly and I went to the in-service at the school for all of the retiring teachers.
The poor thing was swarmed the minute we came in the door.
She got a little overwhelmed and had a crying fit.
After the party, Jeff had me take her to the post office so he could show her off.
While we were there he put her on the post office scales and she weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz.
She is officially too big for preemie diapers and clothes, we have finally moved up to newborn sizes.

April 28, 2008:
Today was Lilly's first doctor's appt.
When we left the hospital she weighed
5 lbs. 8 oz. today she weighed 6 lbs. 11 oz. and they said that she was 18 inches long...but she was 19 when she was born, so I doubt she has shrunk.
She was all curled up and sleeping and the nurse had to pull on her to get her to stretch out, so they just wrote down 19 inches again.
I told Dr. Davis that I was concerned that she wasn't wanting to eat.
We really have to work at waking her up and making her eat.
I think if I let her she would sleep all day.
She has really had her days and nights mixed up.
They told us to wake her up every 2-3 hours to eat during the day, but at night let her wake us up, and she should slowly start to get days/nights straightened out.
Dr. Davis looked at her back to see if it has changed any over the week and said that we need to call if it drastically changes.
He went ahead and had us make an appointment for her to see a Pediatric Dermatologist in Columbia.
That appt. is scheduled from June 11
th with a Dr. Dyer.

*Baby Frederick is here!*
Lillian Brooke arrived April 19
th at 2:04 am.
She weighed 5lbs. 14 oz., 19 in. long.
I had my appt. with Dr. Tobler on Friday and because my blood pressure was better he said that he no longer felt we needed to talk about inducing, and that instead of appts. two times a week we could go back to one time a week.
He also decided not to check me and said that we would do that at my next appt.
He did have me go ahead and have another non-stress test done on the baby.
The baby was very active and everything else looked good.
The nurse did say that it was showing that I was having contractions, but I wasn't feeling anything, so we thought it might have just been the baby moving around.
I came home from the appt. and reported back to everyone that all was good and I was to still remain on bedrest.
That evening Jeff and I went to eat at the Fabius with Katie and Jarrod.
When we got home around 7:30, I no more than got in the back door when I realized I had water running down my legs.
Everyone laughed at me because they thought I had peed my pants.
I wasn't real sure myself, because I had been laughing at the time.
We debated on calling or going to the hospital, but decided against it because I felt fine.
Later my back started hurting, and thinking it was just my kidney flaring up, I decided to get the heating pad and we both went to bed early.
Around 9:00 I was realizing that my "kidney" pain was coming and going and seemed to be getting worse.
I started trying to wake Jeff up (he is a heavy sleeper) and it took me about an hour to get him awake, I finally yelled and hauled off and smacked him (which did the trick).
Once he was awake, we started timing my pains and they were about 5 minutes apart.
He decided to call the hospital and the nurse told him that I was still early, that it could be false labor and I should take a hot bath or shower and see if they went away but to come in if they got to be 2 minutes apart.
I took a shower and they definitely didn't stop.
We decided to wait around home, and Jeff took a shower and changed clothes just in case. By the time Jeff got out of the shower they were about a minute and a half apart, but I was convinced I needed to dry my hair and finish packing the bag before we left.
All of the pregnancy books said a first time mom should prepare for a long labor and to spend the majority at home, so I wasn't in a big hurry.
By the time we got to hospital it was about midnight.
We got all checked in and confirmed that I was in labor, was 4 cm dilated, fully effaced, and that my water had broke (I did not pee my pants earlier) and then called the family by this time it was around 1:00 am.
The nurse asked if I wanted anything for the pain, and because I figured that the worst was yet to come, I said I would wait, thinking I wouldn't have the baby until the next day.
By the time I asked for an epidural it was too late, I was already 10 cm. dilated and ready to push.
The Dr. got there just in time to change clothes and for me to push.
Lilly was born at 2:04 am.
She weighed 5 lbs. 14 oz. and 19 inches long.
Most of our immediate family had arrived at the hospital around 1:00.
When they saw Dr. Tobler in the hallway, Aunt Katie was calling Jeff's cell phone telling us to hurry up and let them all come in and see her.
Everyone is pretty tired, but other than that we are all doing great.
We got to come home from the hospital on Monday afternoon.
