4/17/07-Today we were shopping at Menards. Dad and Garrett were in the play area while I was getting what I needed. When another mom and child came into the play area Garrett went to the mom put up his hand and said, "I'm Buz Lightyear, I come to you in peace." Gotta love it! 4/18/07 Today Garrett was talking to himself, one hand talking to the other, and he told himself he had to go to time out for not making good choices. I guess he was paying attention.
This morning I woke up to the words, buga buga boo-i love you! He was saying it to his toys. It was so sweet. Uncle Scott and Aunt Deb taught him that one. They say it to him all the time. As you can see we just had our Christmas program. We have been working on these three songs all month. I should say I have been singing them to him all month as he looks at me like I am crazy. I was a bit concerned he was not going to sing at all. I was happy to see he did participate and looked to be having fun. On his way out of the program Grandma Sue, cousin Lauren and Peyton were on the floor. As he walked by he gave them all high fives and kept going. He has a great cheerleading team! Dad got him a tie and he loved it so much he had to sleep in it. I should have got a picture of that, but I was way too tired when I thought of it.
11/12/06-What a weekend. Deb, Laure, Peyton, Garrett and I all went to Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City. We all had a blast. Garrett loved all the time with his cousins and Aunt and loved swimming. Aunt Deb got him to jump to her in the water from the side of the pool. He also had to go down the kid water slides many, many, many times. Good thing Deb was there to catch him and I walked him up to the top. We had a great system. He also did a great job eatting out. He sat at the table and refused the highchair. He slept in the same bed as I, but I got no sleep. I had more feet in my face the z's. We went shopping and had a great time. We all can't wait to go back and take the guys. I am sure they will love it as much as we did. Since I got home from my month in Washington DC Garrett can now form any sentence. He can tell you when he is poopy and is usually right. He talks on the phone and has an opinion about everything. I mean everything! His pronunciation is great! It is really amazing to hear him talk. I love his voice. He can count to 20, missing a few here and there. He also knows most of his primary colors and many animal names. He is good with shapes and has all his body parts down pat. It is crazy how quick they can learn. He will copy anything we do or say. We get many amusing moments when we are with him. He has a sweet disposition and is a genuinely nice person. So far so good-I guess we haven't failed parenting yet.
9/25/06-Today Garrett had eggs with ham, cheese and lots of ketchup for breatfast. He did have to have toast afterwards, but we finally got a new food in his belly. He also yelled from his room, "Mommy, I get up"! As if I didn't already hear him playing with every noisy toy he owns a 7:00 AM. He had is 2 year check up last week. He is in the 25% for his weight and 60% for his height. Not a big boy, but very entertaining and makes up for his lack of size in his enormous personality. At the doctors appt. he spit on the doctors pants twice just as he walked in. No, we did not teach him this one, Madagascar did. Thank Disney for that one! He can count up to 10, but will leave out one just about every time. We are working on the ABC's and he can name and find all body parts. We are working on the little things like eye brows, under arms and fingernails. You never know what he will say next. He is a blessing and a joy to have in our lives. We love him very much! We even taught him to say, "Go Army, Huha"! Very cute in person!
8/18/06-Where does the time go? Daddy is currently in Germany for the Army for three weeks. This single parent stuff is so much easier then the last time!!! Garrett is learning to say almost anything. This has us at a disadvantage sometimes. We are trying to be more careful with our words. This is a learning process for all involved. As you can see Nemo and Thomas the Tank Engine are his very favorite things these days. I am sure a train set is in his future. He now loves the Movie Madagascar and sometimes wants to watch it twice in one day! At least this has some adult humor to keep us sane. He is really enjoying his time with his friends Dylan and Dane and we all love seeing our boys growing up together. We do miss seeing Peyton in day care each day now that she has started school. It sure was nice for us all to see each other once or tiwce a week. Now that his words are more clear it is getting so much easier to communicate. We sure enjoy every second with this little boy. He is growing up so fast, it feels like yesterday he was born and now he is two!!! Next thing we will turn around and he will be graduating from high school. At least Lauren and Peytong will beat him to it and I can get prepared through them. Until the next time! P.S. Thank you to all for his fun birthday gifts. We have all enjoyed them!
7/6/06
Potty training is not going so well. He really could care less he is wet or poopy. We are just not ready yet. He is okay with flushing his poopy, which is good. He hated the big commercial fireworks. The ones the neighbors shot off did not make him curl up on the floor and cover his eyes, they just made him curl up with us. We did have a very late nights getting him to bed this weekend. The transition to the bed on the floor went well. I look forward to getting him in a regular bed in the next few months. I love to sleep with him. He is so cute when he sleeps. I guess he will be trying to get Mom out of his bed, not Mom getting him out of our bed. He is able to tell us about anything these days. He WILL repeat anything! I love his voice. He has survived his first spider bite which he had a reaction to. We spend a lot of time outside and water is great fun. He is not such a travler. There are problems keeping a 2yr old in a car seat for 9 hours. He acts as though he has been on crack for days on end. Yes, this lasted for a full 3-4 days. No sleep, and running everywhere! Great fun! Sorry again Grandma Jan and Grandpa Bob.
Today I found Garrett standing over the dog's water dish and pointing himself in that direction and saying, wee wee. I think he may be getting ready for potty training. He has many words and sentences down these days. Still, his most favorite is, "I want donuts!" Here are some others. Where did Mommy go? Where did Daddy go? I want up/Down. NO! Puppy No. I want a cookie! JUICE! WA WA (for water).
4/22/06 Where did the time go? Garrett is such a little boy now. He has mastered many words these days. No, is is favorite, Bite is another favorite. He has a couple of biters in his class and has only retaliated once. We read books on biting and kicking every night. He even
asks for the biting book. As you can see he loves his ball caps and is getting use to sun glasses. He loves to play outside and 99% of the time he is very happy. He is still in 12 month pants and is around the 30th percentile for his age. We are working on getting some weight on him. Some days he will eat everything and others you can't even get a cookie in him. Garrett is beginning to try to escape from his crib. We are watching this closely. We may be moving to a big boy bed very soon. We have play dates with his friend Dylan. They seem to really have fun together and we, along with Steve and Kamy love to see them growing up together. I am sure we will spend lots of time at the zoo this year. Next year Dane, Tom and Kim's son will be joing in our dates. We call can't wait to have him join us. Garrett really loves airplanes so we are working on a space/plane theme for his room. We take him to the SAC museum (airplane museum) often. If he hears a loud noise, plane or lawn mower he points to the air and yells plane! We are encouraging this. He has space shuttle PJ's and he has to point to each one and say plane.
12/3/05-Today I got my first kiss! Then again and again and again. This parenting stuff just keeps getting better. Merry Christmas to me! Garrett got his first ear infection this last week. We had only one really bad night, he cried all night long! Oh-we got a half hour of sleep and then the sun came up and woke us both up. After we all got the flu last week. Good thing I got a kiss today, it makes it all worth it. Garrett really loves all the Christmas decorations. He is very interested in the tree and stockings. This year is a very special year. Garrett is at such a fun age and showing him everything new is so much fun for us. I can't wait to get him into the snow. He is talking up a storm. I wish we understood more that he says. He copies everything Daddy does. I try to get him to do or say things I do, but he does not copy me like he copies Dad. This could be a problem when Army football plays again. We don't need any choice words repeated. He is very attached to his bears these days. He will walk up to me on the floor and back up to sit in my lap with a book in hand to have read to him. He really likes a few certain ones. Of course they all have animals in them. I have been trying to get him to watch the Christmas shows, but still not interested. We are still having problems getting him to eat veggies. We try and offer it each day, but he must take after me. We now cannot eat powered donuts in front of him with out him screaming for one. During the ear infection screaming days giving him a powered donut was the only non-screaming seconds we had for the day. We do what we have to do for some quiet sometime. By the way, he does eat veggies at day care.
10/21/05 Garrett is talking up a storm. He now says MOMMIE (Dad worked with him on this one), ball, puppy and COOKIE. He also does sign language for "more" and we have been working on "please". He is just getting into the Baby Einstein videos and now is very attached to a couple of stuffed animals, a dog and a bear blanquet. Getting the stuffed animal out of his hands is growing more difficult. He is walking and running everywhere. We rarely see him crawl anymore. He is getting better at feeding himself with the spoon, but soon gets frustrated and returns to his hands as you can see in the photos. He has cut on of his first back teeth and it really has been difficult for all of us. He has been in a lot of pain, lots of blown out diapers and bad diaper rash. I think we are through the worst for this tooth, until the next one. He has been doing great at daycare and loves to see Cousin Peyton there. They have a very special bond.
FYI-Matt is on track to finally graduate from College next May 2006-mark you calander. We also want to welcome many new friends, Dane Trotter, Camden Chaffin and Andrew Gates. We can't wait to all play together. Until next time!
10/5/05 Garret is growing so fast. He is walking really well now. He usually has a remote in one had and a golf club in the other. Grandpa Thompson is grooming him already and he seems to be taking to it. I was gone these past few days for Grandpa's funeral. Dad did a great job on his own, didn't even skip a beat. He taught him how to say the two most important words, COOKIE AND MOMMY! He gave him a bath, got his 8 teeth brushed and got him off to bed and they did a lot of playying and football watching. Garrett's bruises finally went away on his cheeks since I was gone, just kidding no bruises. Thoses cheeks are the best to kiss.
HE IS WALKING!!!
9/18/05 When we stopped by Grandma Sue and Grandpa Chuck's house. The magnets on the refrigerator were calling his name (as they always do). As Grandma Sue removed one, he walked over to get it from her. Then it was back and forth between Grandpa and Grandma. He is very wobbly, but very excited of his new found freedom. When we got home he was walking all over the the living room and showing Daddy everything he can now get into and do. This parenting stuff keeps getting better and better! What's next? Can we say Momma?
Garrett is 1!!! We had a party for Garrett and all had a Great time. After all the fun was over we proped him up on one of his three new walkers and off he went on his own. Very neat to see him on his own. Then he was crawling all over the chairs and tried to get on the table behind the chair. He was all over everything! He was not very interested in getting too messy with the cake. Mom had to put his hand in it to get him started. I think he was more interested in getting cleaned up then getting messy. He must get that from Mom!
