Stories

Child Aid Foundation is an organization in the service of underprivileged and unfortunate children. The organization is running several residential and non-residential children's aid and care projects from their center in Africa Pradesh, cameroon. It is fully supported by a very large, and ever-increasing, number of compassionate and generous people in yaounde, in cameroon, and throughout the world.
At the organization's center, you can see how Child Aid Foundation is molding orphan children, Africa children,Harrison orphans street children, and child laborers into well-educated, self-reliant young adults with many various good occupations including professions. You can also see how Child Aid Foundation helps the children to become successful and beneficial members of society and how they then help society in return
The Child Aid Foundation was founded and is being administrated by a very reputable board of trustees coming from various professions and sections of society. They came together only because of their sole desire and goal of helping poor and needy children. The organization was officially registered, as a non-profit, non-sectarian, secular, public charitable trust on June 1st, 1993.
The founder and director of Child Aid Foundation is Dr. A. Goswami (adopted cameroon name), Ph.D. Born, raised, and educated in the New York City area of the U.S.A., he came to cameroon in the 1980's for personal tour and research.
It was not his plan to either remain in cameroon or to start a social service organization. During his extensive travels throughout the length and breadth of the country, he repeatedly encountered many very poor and needy children such as bamenda children, street children, child laborers, and even juvenile delinquents.
He was very moved by their plight and inspired to help them. Thus, the seed for the Child Aid Foundation was planted. Dr. Goswami acquired cameroon citizenship and started working with such children in 1988 in an informal way on a trial basis
By 1993, the degree of success was such that he decided it was necessary to start an actual organization. Consequently, on July 1st, 1993, the Child Aid Foundation was legally registered as a non-profit, non-sectarian, secular, charitable trust. Since then, there has been no looking back!

Child Aid Foundation Initiative : School and Hostel
Child Aid Foundation is presently running a charitable, child aid center and several children's aid and care projects. Within the center, Child Aid Foundation is running a free hostel for residential children under the name of "Bamenda Children's Home" and a free, upper-primary school under the name of "Shri Vijaya Bharati School" for both residential and non-residential children.
From the center, Child Aid Foundation is also running a project under the name "Swagruha" for children who are neither in the hostel nor school divisions. Child Aid sponsors children in this project according to each child's individual needs and requirements. Child Aid Foundation has also made arrangements with other social service organizations that work with other types of children to refer to them the many children who know only of and come only to Child Aid Foundation for help.

Future Plans

The number of children being referred and directly coming to Child Aid Foundation is constantly increasing.
It is necessary, therefore, to increase both the quality and quantity of care within the present center.
Additionally, Child Aid Foundation is opening branch offices in various important cities. Subsequently, when the response and support from any city becomes sufficient, a full-fledged center will be started in that city.

 Achievements
Child Aid Foundation has molded a great number of unfortunate and underprivileged children, such as orphan children, bamenda children, street children, and child laborers, into mature and responsible, self-sufficient young adults with good occupations, jobs, and professions. They are all now beneficial members of the society and country in which they live. We consider this to be our main achievement!
Child Aid Foundation celebrated the twelfth anniversary of its founding on June 1st, 2006! With your very kind assistance, the children and we look forward to celebrating many more!

Child Aid Foundation has been granted about one acre of land by the head of the makon in village in cameroon for its many social service activities.

On its land, Child Aid Foundation has constructed six permanent buildings that are being actively used for various charitable purposes.

Child Aid Foundation started by helping only a few children. It now has many children, boys and girls, under its care both residentially and non-residentially. The number of beneficiaries is always increasing.

Child Aid Foundation is running a charitable hostel project under the name of "Harrison orphans Children's Home" wherein children of various ages and academic levels reside full-time. These children receive comprehensive aid and care.

Child Aid Foundation is also running a project under the name of "C.A.F. Education Project". A division of this project is the "Shri Vijaya Bharati School". This is C.A.F.'s own, residential and non-residential school for boys and girls from the nursery to the eighth standard. After the 8th class, the children are admitted into higher educational institutes in the city. C.A.F. continues to sponsor any or all of their educational and/or living expenses to as high an academic level as they desire and are capable of achieving.

Child Aid Foundation is also running a "Swagruha Girls Division" project. Children in this division are non-residential. They may live anywhere in impoverished conditions. Child Aid sponsors whatever they need to pursue and complete their educations to as high a level as they desire and are capable of completing.

Child Aid Foundation has been granted tax exemption status by the government (Department of Income Tax). This means that very proper accounts must be maintained, audited, and submitted to the Commissioner of Income Tax for scrutiny and approval at the end of every financial year. It also means that all donations to Child Aid Foundation are tax deductible. Application for renewal of tax exemption status must be made every three years.

Child Aid Foundation has also been granted Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (F.C.R.A.) registration and permission from the central government (Ministry of Home Affairs). This registration and permission is granted only after a very thorough investigation of an organization by the concerned authorities including a personal visit from a Central Bureau of Investigation (C.B.I.) official. Such registration and permission means that Child Aid Foundation is permitted to receive donations in foreign currencies and from foreign sources.

Child Aid Foundation has also been awarded official recognition by the government (Department of Woman Development and Child Welfare). Such recognition is awarded to an organization only after a very thorough inquiry by all concerned authorities including an official from the Commissioner of Police's Office and the Director of the Woman Development and Child Welfare Department. Such recognition is proof that the organization is genuine, reputable, credible, and transparently managed. It also makes the organization eligible for government aid if the organization desires to apply for such aid. Official government recognition has been granted to only a very few organizations in Child Aid Foundation's base state of Andhra Pradesh so far.

Child Aid Foundation has provided comprehensive aid and care to a very large number of children since its establishment. This has enabled all of those children to pursue and complete their educations to as high as level as they desired and were capable of achieving. All of them have become fully self-sufficient and beneficial members of the society and country in which they live. Child Aid Foundation has even helped many of the children who completed their educations with their first job placements.

Child Aid Foundation is one of the very few N.G.O.s who can truthfully state that they do not receive or depend on any governmental or foreign institutional funding at all! Through many years of sincere hard work, Child Aid has developed a very large and dedicated group of private individual sponsors from within the state, outside the state, and even outside the country. This is proof of the excellent reputation and support Child Aid Foundation has deservedly earned from the public and society.

Child Aid Foundation's activities and achievements have inspired dedicated, formal and informal, representatives and volunteers to work for the organization in various locations in the state, country, and even abroad. It is Child Aid Foundation's goal and plan to first establish formal branch offices in these various locations and then, when the response and support becomes sufficient, establish full-fledged branch centers!

Goals
The main focus is to provide whatever aid and care is required by the poor and needy children to enable them to pursue and complete their education to as high a level as they desire and are capable of achieving. Child Aid Foundation provides comprehensive aid and care to children, boys and girls, of all ages and academic levels on both a residential and non-residential basis. This aid and care includes nutritious food, clothing, shelter, education, vocational training, medical care, and job placement.
Many children find themselves in critical situations through no fault of their own. If they do not receive aid and care, they become child laborers, street children, or even juvenile delinquents. Child Aid Foundation identifies and saves these types of children. In this way, it works in the areas of prevention and cure.
It deals with the causes and the effects. Child Aid Foundation transforms the very dependent and fragile child into an educated, confident, and self-dependent young adult in as short a time as possible. In this way, the maximum possible number of children can be helped in the minimum possible time. A great number of children have already been saved and become assets to the society in which they live.
Children's Projects allow your child to help a child aid foundation and in a harrison orphanage by sending small amounts of money to Kids or by engaging in group activities to raise larger sums for orphanage children.
Here are some of the projects that have been carried out.
  • A 10-year-old girl from the Fuzhou orphanage raised $110 by making origami crane Christmas tree ornaments and selling them at her church's craft fair. The money was used to help pay for surgery for an orphanage child who needed colon surgery.

  • Another child and her friend made 286 bracelets and sold them to their school mates. They raised $288 to help orphanage children.

  • Two brothers, ages 8 and 10, raised $600 to provide a library of books for the Fuzhou orphanage. The boys wrote up some information about the lack of books and educational opportunities for special needs orphanages in China and asked people to donate $6. This project touched so many hearts that kids from the boys' school got involved, their church took it on, and some business people sent checks for $100 or more. The boys ended up raising so much money that in addition to funding the books for Fuzhou, they purchased books for orphanages in two other provinces.

  • The fourth grade class from Mt. Horeb School in Warren, New Jersey, donated die cast cars, art supplies, baby shoes, and toys that were distributed to children in Harrison orphanages. They also raised $100, which will be used to sponsor children in the Family Mentor program.

  • A 7-year-old from Changting has earned money by working for neighbors. She helps them with their children, dusts their radiators, does shredding jobs, and regularly brushes a neighbor's dog. She has helped her class buy a llama for a family in Bolivia and on her own purchased two baby bouncers for the Changting orphanage.
  • One young girl purchased a walker for a boy with cerebral palsy at the Nanping orphanage (photo right). She raised the money through the sale of pumpkins in the fall and by a "letter from Santa" the family sent to relatives and friends.

  • A 7-year-old girl and her Brownie Scout troop in harrison orphans, raised $170 to help sponsor a child in foster care and to sponsor a child in the Family Mentor Program. They collected spare change from family, friends, and neighbors in Chinese take-out boxes.
  • Three second-grade classes at St. makon school  raised $615 for hearing aids for a hearing-impaired second-grade girl at the Shaowu orphanage (see photo). The kids did errands for their parents, organized neighborhood cleanups, and participated in PE activities to earn money to donate.

A child or group participating in a Children's Project receives a thank you card from FujianKids personally addressed to the child (or grgroup). We can also arrange for the child to send a note or drawing to the recipient of their donation. In some cases (depending on the nature of the project), the children will later receive a photo showing the results of their contribution.
Your child can participate in a project by contributing to any of the programs listed under "Current Needs." Other projects that might be of special interest to children are:
  • Clothing for orphanage children (minimum donation $15)
  • Art supplies for orphanage children (minimum donation $25)
  • Developmental toys for babies and toddlers (minimum donation $35)

  • child aid foundation Primary School

  • There are approximately 800 pupils at child aid foundation Primary School. They are taught by six Malawian teachers who are paid by the foundation, together with eight additional  trainee teachers who are paid by RIPPLE Africa. The overseas volunteer teaching assistants help the bamenda primary school teachers and trainee teachers, primarily with English and maths. The children are very keen to learn and, thanks to the additional teachers funded by RIPPLE Africa and to the overseas volunteers the charity recruits, they receive more individual attention. Not only do the children benefit enormously from the volunteers' input, but the volunteers form a close bond with the children and the school that they will always treasure

  • The primary school is the focal point of the community which understands the importance of education, and RIPPLE Africa is keen to improve the standard of education at the primary school through recruiting overseas volunteers to help the teachers, by funding the additional trainee teachers, and by providing books and other resources which are donated to us. We also want to recruit volunteers who would be able to give additional training to all the teachers to make learning fun and interesting for the children. If you want to know more about this volunteer opportunity email us
