Stories

We had a fantastic time with Henry's sister and her family and his parents.  Addie and the girls were fast friends and loved playing dress up, Barbie's, and swinging.  She is kind of bummed that they are gone this morning.  Good thing we are going to see them again in a week or so for Thanksgiving.  That's right... we are DRIVING (we must be insane) to New Jersey and then to Baltimore for the holiday.  We haven't seen GG in over two years and she has never met Carter so it's definitely long overdue.  Check out the new pictures from the weekend.  Oh- and there might be a sneak peak of our Christmas card in there too.  My goal is to have the pictures printed, addressed and mailed the day after Thanksgiving.  Shoot... with 21 hours in the car to kill what else will I have to do?!

Lots of new pictures are up on the pictures page.  We are getting ready for company too... Henry's sister and her family are going to be visiting this weekend along with his parents.  We're looking forward to seeing them and Addie can't wait to play with her cousins.  Have a great day!

We are in Denver now and will be here for the week.  Today Henry and I had the privledge os spending the morning with Jon and the boys and they are just wonderful.  I got to hold sweet Quinn, give him a bottle, and tell him all of the wonderful things his mother was.  I have to be honest, quite a few tears were shed, but he's just a baby and we were alone so I didn't really break my no crying in front of the kids rule.  This afternoon after naps we brought Addie and Carter back over to play with Clark-o and our friends the Giffords.  The first words out of Addie's mouth were, "Where is Aunt Katie?"  After trying to explain to her that she wasn't able to be there I realized that just when you think you can't get any lower, you can.  It's heartbreaking to watch a 3 year old grieve someone they love.  She and Clark-o were fast friends and tonight before bed she told me how much she loved him.  It's a good thing she feels that way because they are going to be besties for life!!!   Tomorrow we're getting things set up for the next few days and on Tuesday will be the wake in the Springs.  I have to say that I am nervous because this will be the first time many have seen her and to be honest, the first time this will all feel real.  Wednesday we are going to celebrate her life with a memorial service at the chapel followed by her inteernment at the Air Force Academy cemetery.  It will be beautiful.

Today is the 25th of October and 7 years ago tonight we celebrated our rehersal dinner and Katie and Jon met for the first time.  It's had having all of this around the same time.  So, babem Happy Anniversary tomorrow and Katie and Jon we are so happy that you found each other 7 years ago today.

I come to you all with sad news today.  Our dear Auntie Katie has gone to be with the Lord.  She went into labor on Friday and delivered a healthy and wonderful baby BOY!  Sweet Quinn weighed in at 8lbs 1oz and was 22" long.  Shortly after having him Katie started experiencing complications and the doctors were unable to stop her bleeding.  She passed away just before midnight October 16th.  We are all devestated and can hardly belive the news.  It just doesn't seem real.  Please keep Jon, Clark, and baby Quinn in your prayers as well as her parents, sister and friends.  We will update with more information when it becomes available.  For now... here are a few pictures of our sweet friend.

September 19th- It's slumber praty time!  Last night Addie had her first friend over to spend the night and it went so well.  Mattie Claire came over early and the girls enjoyed pizza and ice cream and then took a long bubble bath to wash off all the sauce they had on their clothes and bodies.  They were SO messy!  After the bubble bath we (yes all three of us) put Carter to bed and then snuggled in on the couch to watch a girly movie... Cinderella.  Mattie Claire had never seen it before and she loved it!  They giggled and held hands through the whole movie which was just too cute for words.  Post movie they were so tired and I tried to put them in the same bed but they were both having a hard time falling asleep and Addie eventually gave up and moved herself to her own room.  After a great nights sleep (no one stired until 6:30) they got to watch tv in bed, help make muffins and enjoy breakfast at the special kids table.  It was awesome and we will have to do it again soon!  Thanks MC for coming over.

September 14th- Our big girl turned THREE yesterday. I can hardly believe it's been three years since she was born. Each year has gotten better and now she is so much fun and SO very girly. Her favorite colors are purple and blue and she loves purses, cell phones, makeup (real and fake), jewelry, playing dress up, changing her clothes three times a day because her outfit isn't perfect, princess, and Carter. She makes us laugh at least once an hour and has the very best smile. She's still a picky eater and is still taking a great nap in the afternoon. She loves school very much and looks forward to going every day. All in all she is the very best little girl on the planet and we love her so much!

She had a wonderful birthday weekend filled with fun with Papou and Jilly-Bean and a fabulous party with all her friends and the much anticipated princess cake. We ate cake, jumped in the bounce house (because of course it would rain on her big day), smashed a pinata and got lots of wonderful presents. For those who were here thank you for coming and making her day the "best day of my whole life" (Addie said that as she was laying down to sleep that night).

On Sunday, her real birthday, she got her BIG present... a bike! Lots of her friends already have bikes and so hopefully she will get up to speed soon and be able to race around the neighborhood with them. Of course it is purple and blue with fairies and flowers! We also went to the beach and took her out to the Red Bar for dinner followed by gelato in Seaside. It was a fabulous day.

September 8th- "Hold me closer tiny dancer..."  If you haven't figured it out from the layout yet I'll clue you in on a little secret... our Addie has started ballet!  Honestly, I have been waiting for this day since the day I found out she was a girl.  As many of you know I took dance from the time I was 2 and a half through college and LOVED it!  It's been a priority of mine since day one to introduce our little girl to the arts and starting ballet lessons is the first step.  And you know what's even better?  She loves her ballet class too.  They sing songs and learn basic ballet moves as well as learn a dance for the spring recital (OMG I think I've died and gone to mommy heaven!).  She's been "tip toeing" around the house for the past week and loves to show off her new moves after she gets home.

Also on the Addie front she starts back to school tomorrow with a new classroom and new teacher.  We adored Ms. Brenda last year and have heard nothing but good things about Ms. Barbara (her class theme is Ms. Barbara's Barnyard... how cute is that!).  Addie cannot wait to go back and I'm ready for us to get back into our routine.  This is going to be a busy year with school, dance, and I've also signed up to be the co-coordinator of MOPS.  Yikes!  We're never going to be home.

Carter is going to PT every Friday and is making LOTS of improvement.  He has hyper-extended ankles and wrists so he is going to be fitted with little inserts for his shoes to help keep his ankle in place.  After that happens Ms. Paula thinks that he will take off walking.  Right now it's hard for him because his joints don't support him like they should.  He does compensate quite well though.  Here's a video of him crawling up a slide at a local mall.  Isn't he too cute!

Lastly, our princess is going to be THREE on Sunday.  I want to freeze time because I cannot believe how fast it is traveling.  She is in full Disney Princess mode so we are going to have a Royal Princess Ball on Saturday with her sweet friends.  Honestly, I think she is most excited about the princess cake we ordered that has ALL the princesses on it!

August 31st- The Schantz family took on the Big Easy this weekend!  We're trying to see all the big cities in the southeast since this may be our last year here (who an I kidding... we're going to be back.  Everyone comes to Tyndall 3 times!) so we headed 6 hours west to New Orleans.  We had a great time, ate some fantastic food, and decided that two days was plenty.

Friday we got there late so we just grabbed some dinner and went to bed.  Saturday the kiddos slept in until 7:20 which is huge because they pretty much never sleep past 6 so we got a latter start than we anticipated.  We hit Cafe Du Monde and had some beignets and coffee (who doesn't live fried dough with powdered sugar and caffine) to get our day started.  After that we walked around Jackson Square, looked at the "big white castle", saw some wacky artists, walked around the French Quarter (at 10 it was pretty dead but there were a slect few crazies with their beer in hand wandering down the street!), and decided that since it was crazy hot we would go to the aquarium to cool down.  After the aquarium we came back to our hotel, took naps/sat on the balcony and then headed back downtown for dinner.

All day long Addie had been asking to "ride a horse" after seeing the horse (or rather mule) drawn carriages in the French Quarter.  Well, we're suckers and so we loaded up on our carriage and rode around the French Quarter at dusk.  It was so fun!  On the way back to the hotel we HAD to stop at one of the numerous daiquiri stores and pick up a Route 44 size drink.  What mom doesn't walk around a city pushing a stroller sipping a mango daiquiri.  New Orleans has an open container law that says it's fine to walk around the streets with alcohol as long as it's not in a glass container so we were prefectly legal!  We came back, swam, and then called it a night.

Sunday started off a little earlier than Saturday and we checked out, got our car and the car hop recommened the BEST breakfast place.  Surrey's was written up in GQ in March and is total worth the raves.  The kids shared the biggest banana pancake I have ever seen, Henry had some sort of yummy egg concoction, and I had TO DIE FOR banana's foster french toast.  It was heaven on a plate.  If you are ever in the area you must go there.  After breakfast we went to the St. Louis cemetary (which was very sad and in such a state of disrepair.  Also, I have a feeling that there were definetly some floaters in Katrina), went to city park and played at a little area called Storyland and hit the road to drive home.

As we pulled out of town we talked about how much fun we had but how two days was plenty.  It was pretty sad seeing how desolate the area was in certain places 4 years later.

August 24th- Just new pictures this week from a mini photo shoot at Windmark Beach.

August 17th- Our little man has been one for a week now and has already accomplished so much.  Carter's been a bit of a late bloomer when it comes to physical things and that's because he has low tone.  Low tone is when your muscles aren't quite as strong as ordinary people.  It's not a big deal but it does mean that it's harder for him to do some things and so therefore he is a bit delayed in the gross motor category.  With that said, he has started to pull up and even make an effort to cruise the ottomans in our living room!  We just may have a walker by Christmas yet.  He had is one year appointment and that went really well.  C-man is now 23lbs and 32 inches.  That means that he is pretty much off the charts for height and 50% for weight.  Lots of people think that he is a lot older just because he is so tall.  Thank you to everyone who sent such great birthday gifts too.  We love all the boy toys (trucks and animal toys) and clothes (lots of special new outfits!).  I've managed to grab a picture of him with some things... not all yet... but some.

This week Addie and I got some one on one time too.  Carter stayed with our sweet baby sitter Jayme and Addie and I along with Magan, Mattie Claire and Jackson went to Frank Brown Park to play at their pool.  There's a zero entry splash area and a couple slides.  Addie wanted to go down the REALLY big slide (it's a couple stories up) but chickened out at the top.  Maybe next time :)  It was fun to get to spend some alone time with her since we don't get to do that very often.  We also went down to base to a luau and she had a fantastic time learning to hula!

Lastly, the homemade clothes kick continues.  I love this outfit (excuse the crazy sequin thing on her head, she was playing dress up before I tried this on her) and even though it's a bit more retro than I first intended it to be I think the big pants and ruffles are so fun!

August 9th- He's ONE!  That's right one year ago our baby entered our lives and this past year has been fantastic.  Carter we love you and are so thankful for you!  Happy Birthday sweet boy!

And, finally, get your tissues ready because here is Carter's one year montage.  It's about 11 minutes long so sit back and enjoy a trip down memory lane.

August 2nd- It's August and it's HOT around here.  85 at 7:30am hot to be exact.  Anyone want to come visit?!  I'm pretty sure the answer to that question is "No" but come November we might have some takers :)

Addie's last day of summer school was last week and again, her fabulous teacher passed on a bunch of pictures which I have added to our pictures page.

Other big news this week, Carter will be ONE on Saturday!  We're having a tiny party with our friends the Hiatt's and the Echols' and some cake.  I've been very "Martha Stewart" this past week and have made his party favors and that I would tackle an airplane cake too.  But... I'm not that crafty and an order was placed this morning at Publix for a lovely decorated sheet cake to be ready next weekend.  I'm sure Kelly, Magan, Trigger, and Lobo along with their kiddos will be thanking me for that decision!  I sent out a few invites because he has to have one for his baby book and thought I'd paste on here in case you wanted to see how stinking cute they are!

Lastly, not only did I make Carter's favors (which you will find out what they are next week because I want them to be a surprise) but I also got this wild hair and attempted to make, yes sew, Addie a dress. And... drum roll please... it turned out good!  No kidding, it looks really cute.  Definitely not perfect, but I'm SO proud of myself for accomplishing this goal.  I might even make another.

July 27th- What a fun weekend we had!  Our date night was fantastic and I really liked the movie even though it wasn't as action packed as some of the others.  I think they did a great job setting up the story for the final movie.  I'm going to be a bit sad when they are all done.

Sunday was SUPER fun!  We did yard work (yuck) and then after naps met up with some of our closest friends out at the beach for dinner.  The Hiatt's and Echols' have been with us now for almost 7 years which is unheard of in the world of the Air Force!  We had a great time catching up with another friend, Bud, who was in town for the F-15 TX course and playing at Pier Park.  Can you believe that 4 years ago there were no kids in our group and now look at us...

July 24th- It's been almost 2 weeks since we updated... sorry.  There hasn't been a lot going on around here... some teething (Carter now has FOUR teeth), some playing and some swinging.  Speaking of swinging, check out this video.

Yes, our Addie girl has figured out how to pump and it's awesome!  Honestly, other than that we are in the doldrums of summer and have just been playing outside so there's not much to share.  This weekend is shaping up to be a good one though... we've got  a sitter to go see Harry Potter tomorrow (I am SO excited about this and even Henry is looking forward to it) and on Sunday we are getting together with some friends from Langley for dinner out on the beach.  We were calculating yesterday and for 7 adults there are 6 kids.  Oh my, they almost out number us!  Look for some fun pictures on Monday.  Have a good weekend!

July 13th- Weekend fun...  or what we do in Panama City when it's too hot to go outside.

July 9th- Our peanut is 11 months old!  Wow, this year has certainly flown by.  It feels like yesterday we were in Atlanta for the 4th and waiting on Carter to get here and now I am planning his first birthday.  We are so blessed by our sweet boy.  He gives the best smiles and is the best cuddler.  Addie always wanted to be down and moving and Carter will let you snuggle him forever.  His sweet eyes always seem to melt whoever is holding him at that moment.  Here's a few fun fact about our little man...

  • He LOVES to eat!  The other night I made spaghetti and meatballs and when I got up to get Addie something to drink he pulled my bowl over and started to eat my meatballs!  They were whole, not cut up like his, so he was sitting there with a mouth full of meatball grinning because he was so proud of his ability to sneak food.
  • He LOVES his sister.  She could tell him to jump and he would ask her how high.  He follows her around the house and thinks she is SO funny.  I believe they have some sort of secret language because he squawks at her and she squawks right back and then they laugh.  Those two are going to be trouble later.
  • He LOVES going to the gym.  One of the childcare workers has sort of adopted him and he lacks for nothing while she is in charge.  This morning we went and Ms. Michelle wasn't working and he was so sad.  He spent a few minutes looking for her and had the other workers and I laughing because he was so bummed she wasn't there.
  • He is DYING to walk.  He's a great army crawler but he doesn't quite get the pulling up/standing/balancing thing yet so he can't walk but he would really like to.

Yesterday wasn't just his 11month birthday but it was also a very bittersweet day for all of us.  Our dear friends Mark and Julie and their kiddos Tim and Megan are moving to Alaska and yesterday Addie had to say goodbye to her friend Timmy.  It's always hard for me to watch their goodbyes because they are so genuinely sad even at this age.  I'm so bummed the Air Force is taking them away from us but at the same time I am so thankful the Air Force brought us together in the first place.  It's such a double edge sword.  We will miss you guys!  Here's a picture to the friends right before they realized goodbyes were about to happen.

Happy 4th of July!

July 1st- HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY!  Henry celebrated his 32nd birthday today with us and his mom who is here visiting for the week.  We hope you had a great day Daddy!

Jun 20th - This is Henry (guest writer on the site).  Tomorrow is Father's Day and Grandma Schantz's Birthday!  Happy birthday Grandma!  Besides the standard day/night of dancing, singing, laughing, and having fun, this week was good.  I had to work a lot to get ready for a couple of DC distinguished visitors to come visit Tyndall and talk about the F-15 drawdown (President Obama decided to retire most of the F-15Cs - my old steed).    But it is not President Obama that is visiting...

Anyway, we went to the beach this morning and tried out our new beach tent.  It is one of those half domes that is just perfect for all 4 of us.  Good purchase Jennie!  It is needed to stay out of the sun when it becomes so unbearable outside.  And is it unbearable.  The thermometer in the car said 118 when we went out this afternoon but settled at 99.  The heat index is somewhere around 115 (with the humidity).

To help Carter cool off, we decided to get his first haircut.  What a big boy!  He sat there, looked around and was just a perfect little gentleman.  Away went the growing mullet and on to a more fitting style.  Check out the pictures on the page!

Hope all are well.  Have a great holiday coming up!

June 16th- Lord help us when she becomes a teenager.  After today, she might not make it...

It started off as any day does around here... Addie getting up at 5:45 (yuck) and Carter following suit at 6.  Yes, they get up that early every day even when I try to put them to bed later.  And yes, it sucks.  We had breakfast, watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, got ready and were playing with the Little People farm by 8.  We were out the door at 8:45 for Addie's summer program Chiggers (
Children Having Interest in God, Goodies, Exercise, Recreation & Study, not the bugs) and Carter and I were off to the gym.  We picked Addie up, came home, had naps, went for a walk with our babies and then it all fell apart.

Apparently, Addie is strong willed.  And although I've known that all along, she presented her personality in rare form tonight.  I made chili on baked potatoes for dinner and knowing that Addie probably wouldn't eat the chili I didn't even put any on her potato.  It was just cheese, sour cream, and butter with peas on the side.  What's not to like about cheese and butter?  Addie felt like it was poison and promptly started throwing a fit at the dinner table.  I decided earlier today that I was done being a short order chef and that she was going to eat what I prepared for dinner, especially when there was nothing on her plate that she didn't like.  Addie kept the screaming up, increasing in volume to the point where I thought the neighbors were going to come check on us and so I told her that if she wanted to scream she was more than welcome to go to her room and that if she didn't want to eat the dinner in front of her then she could go to bed without dinner.  She got up, marched off, and continued to scream in her room.  Carter and I ate dinner, played for a bit and then I put him to bed all the while waiting for Addie to come out, say she was sorry, and eat dinner.  But no, she was having none of that.  She was quite reluctantly drug to the bathtub and again offered another chance to eat the dinner still sitting on the table.  Again, she said no, so she went to bed without dinner.  She's certainly not going to starve in the next 12 hours so I'm not really worried about her nutrition and I'm hoping that my sticking to my guns will prove a point to her... that Mommy is not one to be messed with and I mean it when I say things.  If she is like this at 2 and a half I can just picture 16 now.

Addie's teacher gave me a fantastic cd with pictures of her preschool class from this past year yesterday. Here's a few highlights. There's pictures of her first day, her birthday, and all of the fun parties and events they had this year. I can't believe how much she has grown up since this time last year.

June 8th- Happiness is...

Playing in the water after dinner on your 10 month birthday...

Drinking water out of the hose...

Going fishing for the first time...

Bring on summer... we are ready!

May 28th- We're home!  After two weeks on the road we are back with lots of stories and pictures... two page of pictures in fact.  So sit back and allot a little extra time to view everything this time around.

Let's start with the reason we went to Colorado in the first place... my mom (Nana) decided a few years ago to go back to school and she graduated on the 17th with a degree in Social Work.  We are very proud of her and wish her the best in finding a job that she loves doing what she wants to be doing.   Addie did good at graduation and Carter slept on Uncle Jon the whole time.  It must be nice to be a baby. :)  Since a graduation's a big deal my grandfather (Beep) was also able to come and help us celebrate.  It's been over a year since he'd seen Addie and he had never meet Carter.  I think he had a fantastic time playing puzzles, hairdresser, swinging, and gardening.  Needless to say, I'm sure he was tired when he got home because Addie kept him jumping!

Being in a big city afforded us the opportunity to eat at some fantastic restaurants (I swear Colorado has the BEST Mexican food) and go see some cool things.  During our week with Nana we went to the zoo (Addie's favorite part was the polar bears and the giraffes along with the fact that we rented her a wagon to ride in), the butterfly pavilion (Addie was SUPER brave and held Rosie the resident tarantula.  I on the other hand wanted nothing to do with the furry spider) and played outside a lot.  One of the warmer afternoons Addie wanted to run through the sprinklers so we put on her swimsuit and sent her outside.  Evidently it wasn't quite warm enough for Addie so she quickly ran back in, grabbed her snow boots, and went back out to play.  Only in Colorado will you find a kid playing in snow boots and a swimsuit.  Aunt Sara and Uncle Jon also came over a lot and played with the kiddos.  We found out that Carter likes to crawl only for specific things (shoelaces, DVD boxes and cat food) and that Addie has Aunt Sara wrapped around her finger!

After hanging out with my mom for a week we moved over to Papou and Jilly-Bean's house where the spoiling continued.  Addie ran upstairs to Jill's closet and promptly asked, "Do you have any dresses in here for little girls?"  She's definitely not shy!  Jill went out that afternoon and picked up Addie the dress she was asking for, Snow White.  I was a bit embarrassed, but Addie now has a new favorite dress you will see pictures of her in since I know you must be getting as tired of looking at the Sleeping Beauty one as I am.  My dad and I along with the kids took a trip to my old stomping grounds, Boulder, and walked around the University of Colorado campus and even hauled the peanuts up to the Hill and the Tri-Delt house.  Yes, for those who ask, Addie WILL be a Delta Delta Delta.  Those blood lines run deep and there will be lots of disappointed people (especially me) if she doesn't don the blue and gold triangles.  While there Carter couldn't stop smiling so he might just become a Buff one day.  We also went to the aquarium (Carter had a blast... Addie was in a funk for the second half :( ) and helped Papou work on the yard.  We know he his going to miss her expert raking skills.

Not only did we get to spend time with my family but we also had the ability to meet up with Karla and Jim who were on their way to California from New Jersey, Margaret and Bianca (Aunt Sara's friends who we have become friends with too), and Katie, Jon and Clark who were in town from Italy.  Karla and Jim were good sports and they joined us on a park adventure.  Thanks guys!  Addie had a great time playing with Bianca at the park that's right behind Aunt Sara and Uncle Jon's new house (which by the way is awesome and we are so happy for you guys!).  Addie and Carter both got super cute t-shirts from Aunt Katie and had a fabulous time playing little people with their buddy Clark-o who is SO cute!

So there's our massive rundown of our trip.  It was fun but it's good to be home.  What did Henry do while we were gone... he built a swing set!  Addie was so excited to wake up this morning and go play on the new "park" Daddy built!  Come over and play anytime... it's super fun!

Why the mountain background you ask?  We leave for Colorful Colorado tomorrow!

May 12th- Today was Addie's last day of school.  I can hardly believe that the end of preschool is here.  She has learned so much this year and not just academics.  Yes, she can now spell her name and knows some basic letter phonics but she also has learned how to share, how to make new friends and how to get along with another authority figure.  All lessons that are just as important as learning to spell.  Her sweet teacher Ms. Brenda gave her a few sweet parting gifts and gave me a plate with Addie's hand print on it.  It's so cute and will be treasured for years.  Here's a look back over the past year with a picture of her on her first day of school and one from today with her best friend in her class Morgan.

Carter has been growing exponentially over the past few days.  It seems like overnight he has not only figured out crawling but also gets the pincher grasp.  Before now he couldn't get food into his mouth himself but the past few days he's been eating puffs like a champ and today he even managed to eat a few bites of cheese.  There is hope that the baby food can be retired at some point!

We are leaving tomorrow for Denver so we might be offline for a bit.  I'll try to update but in case I don't get the chance here's a few Addiesims to get you through..

"Oh shoot" - said every time she makes a mistake, drops something, just feels like it.  I'm just glad it's not another four letter s word.

"I want to be like a man!" as she walks around with out her shirt on.  "I'm like a man at the beach."

"I'm going to break my fingers," as she tries bending them backwards (why I have no idea).  "Oh man, it's not working."  (which is a good thing)

"Where is me?" said with a giggle as she has a sheet over her head.  We'll have to work on her grammar.

May 10th- Happy Mother's Day!  My little man gave me a great gift this morning... he started crawling!  Yes, our baby is mobile.  While he's not the best crawler in the world he is moving and that means that all the stuff Addie doesn't bother but little guys will now has to be moved.  One of his favorite things is to get the door jams and pull them off and shove them in his mouth.  No more leaving him on the floor playing and taking a shower... now he has to be "locked up" in the exersaucer.  Here's a video of his moving debut.

He also gave up his highchair this weekend.  It was huge, bulky, and messy so we've moved on to a booster.  Carter loves being at the table with his sister and getting to eat puffs with her.  Here's a picture of him being a boy boy (ignore the bib).

My sweet Addie made me the most darling mother's day cards and even planted me a plant at church.  She's been so excited to celebrate "Mommy day" that she talks about it every day.  She's super funny and is just so much fun to be around.

The Air Force did us a favor and sent our friend Polly TDY to Alabama and her husband Pete TDY to Tyndall.  Since they were in the same vicinity Pete decided to fly out with their little girl Maren and Polly came down to hang out for a few days.  We had a fabulous time playing outside, going to the beach, picking strawberries and such.  Thanks guys for coming to visit and thanks Air Force for bringing our friends out here for free!

If anyone is looking for a way to keep up with super cute unique baby stuff my friend Kate started a website called www.theshoppingmama.com  She finds tons of great one of a kind items that would be perfect for your kids or for a baby gift.  This week she's teamed up with another blog,
etsyitup.blogspot.com and is having HUGE give aways all week long.  Here's just one of the things you can win. a cool diaper bag which can be found here: www.chouettebycosette.com

So, check out her site when you get the chance.  She's also a fellow military wife and plans on having a military themed week where she'll showcase stores run by military wives!  How cool is that!

April 27th- I've always heard about kids who fall asleep during dinner and thought no way does that really happen.  It's just not possible.  Well... he proved me wrong!

We went to the beach to play on Sunday and although we were dying to get in the water the weather had different plans.  It was SO windy and there were double red flags up so no swimming for us.  On the bright side Addie and Carter had a great time throwing sand on each other.  More pictures are posted on the picture page.

April 24th- Who knew a $5 turtle sandbox could make a girl and a boy so happy?  We acquired a turtle sandbox and since then Addie and Carter have been playing outside everyday.  They sit for hours and dump sand on each other laughing the whole time.  It's great!  We also have had the chance to crash our friend's the Echols' playset and man is it fun.  We should have our own soon but until then thankfully they allow us to come over and play often.  Magan also was awesome and dragged out the baby pool this week and Addie had a fabulous time splashing with her friends.

On another note... does anyone know how to get a kid to take a sippy cup?  Carter will NOT take one and it's about to drive me bonkers.  He makes no effort to even try.  So any advice will be put to good use.  And while we are at it any tips for getting him over his texture aversion and to get him to eat food that's not totally pureed?  I guess we are "blessed" to have two picky eaters in this house.  Awesome.

I'll leave you with a few funny comments from Addie...

"Mom, what are those two dudes doing riding on that bicycle together?  They just look silly."  commenting on a bunch of bikers who were riding down the street together.

"Hey after naps can we go to Plublix (Publix) and get some cookies.  That would make me feel good."

"When I get a little bit older I'm going to play in a ball game and that would be fun for me."

"Daddy's birthday is next and he want's a cake with cars on it like Lightening McQueen and Mator.  I don't want one like that.  I want a princess cake."

April 18th- Our little Carter went to the doctor this week for his early nine month check up.  When we switched off base the new doctor had to play catch up with some of his shots because the base hadn't given him all of the ones he needed and one needed to be given in two month intervals so we went in a little early.  He's doing great and growing like a weed.  He's up to 19.6lbs and is 29.25" long.  He's certainly long!  He is sweet as can be but lazy as anything.  He doesn't really make much of an effort to crawl and is more than happy to just hang out and let his sister bring him toys.  At this rate he may never move.

We also headed back out to the strawberry patch to pick some of the best strawberries I've ever had.  We go every year and these strawberries are awesome.  They're grown with no chemicals so it's ok to eat them right off the plant.  Addie loves that aspect of picking!  They are also super cheap and the people who own the farm are so nice.  They have a great "petting" area with all sorts of farm animals.  We went to look at the animals earlier this week but went to pick berries today.  If you're ever in town during April make sure you check it out.

Tomorrow might come with another update.  We are going to the Depot to gather wood and plants for our yard.  Henry is going to make the kids a swing set (three swings on an A frame) and I'm going to plant a garden with Addie.  I cannot wait to get swings back there so we can play outside more.  The weather has been fantastic so come on down for a visit!

Happy Easter!  We hope you had a great day.  FYI the Shutterfly Photos have been updated so for those looking to order a few they are there and available.

April 5th- What a fun week we've had... with all the rain you would think that we would possibly need a canoe to get out of our house. In one day last week we got SEVEN inches of rain. I can wrap my brain around 7 inches of snow, but rain!? It was miserable. We were totally housebound and our grand weekend plans of going to the airshow family day were toast because it was pouring. Never fear, we did do a few fun things. 1) Our sweet friend Mattie Claire turned TWO! We helped her celebrate over dinner and needless to say she and Addie had a fantastic time running around in their princess dresses. 2) We went to the Bay County Junior Museum. Or, the place where your kids pick up every communicable disease in Northwest Florida. It's grimy, it's dirty and it's not that nice. The good news is that Addie and Carter don't seem to care and aside from the fact that all three of us now have a fantastic cold it was nice to get out of the house. Check out Addie and the snake below. 3) We dyed Easter Eggs! OK, I'll admit that I had more fun that Addie did and I definitely had more fun than Carter but oh well. My fingers are now blue from fishing the egg out of the blue cup and Addie is very proud of her egg with an A on it. I think we'll try it again later in the week... if anyone has a hankering for hard boiled eggs come on over. We've got a bunch! What's up next? This week we've got a few playdates lined up, school starts back on Tuesday, MOPS is Thursday and the annual squadron Easter Egg hunt takes place on Saturday. More updates to come :)
