2/26/09 Last night was Myles' preschool's family night. The kiddos sang songs for us, Myles spun around in circles the whole time while singing. Then we went to his room for 3 centers. He had a great time showing us what he does at school. Tripp lost tooth #3 last night. I about peed my pants when he told me the tooth fairy left him $5! I told him she must have known we were going to Disney, Daddy said she probably just didn't have any change.
2/22/2009 Not the first time, or the last....but I can't believe Tripp is 7 today! Our first born is growing up, much to our dismay. Today he asked if the tooth fairy was real or if moms and dads put money under pillows. I realize this is only the beginning, but didn't realize it would start in first grade. Of course, I'd like to choose his friends and influences for him, shelter his little ears from all that I don't want him to hear, but this, too, is only the beginning.
Tripp's friend birthday was a blast. We had nine 7 year old boys over for 2 1/2 hours of obstacle courses and events. It was non-stop for the entire time, lots of running and yelling, but more importantly lots of smiles. We turned the boys over to the parents with promises of a good night sleep for all the kiddos, and especially for Mac and I! Today we spent the day together as a family, opening gifts and a movie. Back to school tomorrow and then off to Disney the end of the week!
1/15/2009 Happy 2009! We had a wonderful Christmas and have felt truly blessed this past year. The boys must have been very good boys, because they received almost everything they asked Santa for. Myles wanted 'Spikes' the dinosaur, a Lion webkinz, and Power Rangers helmet. Tripp asked for a DS, Madden 09, and a snake webkinz. They got all of the above and more! After opening gifts we were off to Indiana. We hesitated in going b/c Myles started throwing up but then was better later that morning. We had a wonderful Christmas evening with my family and Myles was super excited to get the Batman Castle. Tripp got a Speed Racer hotwheels track and Myles bug. He was pretty sick that night, throwing up several time throughout the night. Then it hit Mac, and we headed home a day early to try to prevent it from spreading to anyone else. That failed...it hit almost my whole family, oops. While we were at Lacy's we were able to get her and Jason hooked on our favorite game...Blockus!
After getting home from Indiana, Mac tried to recover and work for a couple days before heading to TN. Unfortunately, the bug started in on me right before we were getting ready to leave. So, to prevent the wildfire from spreading to TN also, we made the difficult decision for me to stay home. I hated to watch them leave and missed seeing Chris and Mac's family. On a positive note, I was able to stay in bed and recover which is a pretty rare thing for a mom!
Mac and the boys had a wonderful time in Tennessee, even without me being there. I'm trying to write of his time there with the limited info I got, all I know is they had a great time hanging out with his family and Chris. The also had a blast at the NYE lock in at Kristin's church. Lots of new pictures have been added, hopefully that tells the rest of the story!
11/15/08 We just got a new puppy. She is a 6 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and she is adorable. She is such a good girl (at least for right now!) We're thinking that once she gets used to us, and her new home we'll see the puppy come out. The boys adore her. Tripp came up with her name, Elly. Myles was insisting on calling her "Spikes" this morning, but now he just calls her "girly girl". So far, it's been an easy transition, but of course, it's only been a day!
10/20/08 Myles learned to ride his bike without training wheels today, whoo hoo!!!!!!!!! Funny that both of the boys were just a few months past 4 when they learned. Hopefully we'll have a few more nice days for him to ride before the cold weather comes in!
10/19/08 The boys and I are enjoying a lazy Sunday, waiting for Mac to get back from his guy's weekend. Grandpa Brad came down this weekend to watch the boys play their last soccer game, it was nice to have him here finally. The boys really love seeing our families, especially at our house, to show them all their things. Myles was super excited to get his first trophy, no team party for whatever reason. Tripp's team party is Monday, he really learned a lot this year, and ended up having a great season. I can't say that I'm not happy that the season is over though, I think we're all ready for a little break.
10/4/08 Tripp scored his first goal of the season today (and almost scored a second at the very end of the game!) This year the score is very low, usually only 1 or 2 goals each team, needless to say, I was ecstatic. Unfortunately, Mac wasn't able to see it b/c he's in TN picking up Chris. Chris will be with us for about 10 days, so the boys are both psyched for him to get here. Myles continues to be very aggressive in soccer and tends to be a ball hog, but hey, that's ok for now. He tends to be a show boat when he scores, but thankfully the newness of scoring is wearing off, so the shows are less of a spectacle now. A couple of weeks ago when he scored he ran to the other end of the field, yelling "oh yeah, oh yeah, I scored a goal" and then followed that with the air guitar. The next goal he scored he gave me a thumbs up and winked, yes, winked at me. The other parents were LOVING it. I think they are missing the entertainment.
9-29-08 Happy Monday! We had a wonderful weekend with the Melly family, it was so nice to catch up with old friends. I'm still amazed at how perfectly the weekend went by, the kids were all great and got along so well and the even the adults had grown up time which is always great! Jill and I took the kids to the Cincy Zoo on Thursday, the weather was perfect and the kids had a blast. Saturday we spent the afternoon at the soccer field and even had a picnic lunch there due to timing of the games, then we came home watched some football, and then the adults went out for dinner and drinks. It was a very nice night. We were so sad to see them go on Sunday, lots of hugs and promises of a visit to Boston this summer.
Sunday afternoon Mac and I took the boys to the Aullwood Apple Fest. The boys had fun painting their own faces and doing some other crafts like bag people and sand art and also the hay ride. This weekend Mac picks up Chris and he'll be with us for about 2 weeks, we're so excited to see him!
9/11/08 I can't believe it's been 7 years! As always, our thoughts and prayers are with our soldiers that are fighting for our country and their families. We're also praying for my cousin, Karla, her family, and the other residents of TX that are anxiously awaiting IKE.
On a lighter and more positive note, the boys are doing great! I received the best compliment from Myles' teacher yesterday, who said that he is doing really well with self control (if you know Myles you know this is a HUGE accomplishment for him, he likes to move!) and is a really good listener and helper in the class. Whoa, that was a long time coming! He still continues to crack me up and is very inquisitive. He's been drilling me about where babies come from, how do they get in your belly, how do they get out......ummm, I've been doing my best with that line of questioning.
Tripp is adjusting well to first grade, he LOVES his teacher. The principal did a wonderful job with his placement this year, we couldn't be happier. He continues to amaze us with his reading and got a 10/10 on his first spelling/vocab test. Mac was able to have lunch with him today, so I can't wait to hear about it from Tripp. We're so proud of both of our boys and are loving watching them grow!
9/3/08 Myles had his first day of preschool today. He was hesitant for me to leave at first (that child would be happy hanging out with me all day every day), but warmed up pretty quickly. One of the draw backs of being in a large preschool is the amount of classes offered for his age, which resulted in no classmates from last year in his class this year. He didn't seem to mind too much though. Back again Friday!
8-27-08 Tripp started his first day of 1st grade on Tuesday. I did much better than I thought I would, and everything seems to be off to a great start. We met Myles teacher yesterday, he was uninterested in the whole "meet the teacher" so he decided to hang out with his teacher from last year. He starts Weds after Labor Day.
Last weekend we went to Tennessee to celebrate Chris's 11th birthday. It was his first friend birthday, and he seemed really excited to have us all there. Mac, Tripp, Myles, Mac's mom, and two nieces went with us to the roller rink/laser tag. The boys were pretty frustrated trying to roller skate at first, but started to get the hang of it at the end. We also celebrated Mac's grandpa's 87th birthday with his entire family from his mom's side. It's nice to see everyone, even if it's only once a year!
We're undecided about a trip to Indiana for the weekend, looking like we'll probably just stay here. We had a long weekend in Tennessee last weekend with some tire issues and I think we'd all just like to relax and not be in car. Hope everyone has a great long weekend!
8-7-08 We finally found our camera, the only problem is that it's not taking great pictures. We did get a few of our hike at John Bryan State Park. We had a great 2 mile hike with the boys a couple weekends ago. We're trying to get out and enjoy nature more. Corny, I know, but the time we spend together outdoors with no distractions is priceless. This weekend we're going camping for our first time as a family. Hopefully our camera will hold up to capture these memories.
The boys are finishing up their last of 3 camps this week. They've had so much fun this summer, potato sack races, tug o war, obstacle courses, ballon tosses, playing in the creek, creating masterpieces out of creek clay, crafts, songs, and so much more. Tomorrow afternoon a few moms have organized a kids Olympic Games get together. How much fun is it to be a kid!
Mac and I had an amazing anniversary dinner on the 24th, at a restaurant you wouldn't dream of bringing a child to, a rare occurance for us! It's amazing what we've experienced as a couple the last 7 years, and it just keeps getting better. My hopeless romantic husband made the day extra special for me, he's an amazing husband and father and I love him more and more each year.
We spent another great weekend with the Berndt's last weekend. We headed north for Abby's family's annual hog roast (always a great time). Friday night we were able to have an adult night out, dinner and drinks. Then Saturday the guys golfed in the morning and we all headed to the hog roast later that afternoon.
Only a couple more weeks of summer left, what else can we squeeze in?
7/23/08 My baby turned 4 on July 11th. He just looks older to me, crazy, I know, but I wish I could slow down time for a bit. Myles had a great birthday, one at home with just us and the other at his gymnastics facility. I needed something that would keep ten 4-6 year old boys (and one princess, Rylin) busy and active, this seemed to work! Myles was almost shocked to see all of his best friends in one place! We're thankful for everyone who celebrated with us. Our camera is on it's last leg and didn't take great pictures, but for now you can check out my friend Steph's website and see a few.
Mac's mom and little sister came to visit last week. It was so nice to have them here, the boys LOVE their aunt Calley and Granny Robbins! Hopefully, it was a somewhat relaxing week for them! (Again, no pics b/c of the camera situation. I'm going to try to get some for Calley).
Mac and I had a blast at the Buffet concert. We have a fun group of friends that we went with, and we all had a great time! I do have a few pics that a friend emailed me.
7/7/08 We just returned from our near perfect vacation to Topsail Island on the southern coast of NC. It was a quiet, relaxing vacation with lots of family time just hanging out at the beach. We saw Kung Fu Panda, Mac and the boys played putt putt (while mommy relaxed on the beach by herself!), walked on the beach, found shells and shark teeth, watched the dolpins, and played lots of games in the evenings. Mac, Chris and Tripp also went on a chartered fishing trip and caught several fish, including two flounder that made a delicious dinner one night. The waves at times were taller than Tripp, which the boys LOVED! Our vacation ended our month with Chris and we were all sad to say goodbye.
It's been over a month since I updated pictures, but I think I've highlighted the last month and tried to recap with pics and captions. Hope you're all enjoying your summer!
5/11/08 Happy Mother's Day! Hope everyone had a great day and all the mommies were treated like the queens you are! We had a wonderful day and I was spoiled by all 3 of my guys! Hope the day put a smile on your face, and reminded you how special you are!
5/8/08 Lots of new pictures added from Opening Day! Our good friend, Brendan Melly was in Cincinnati this week. We all had a great visit, and are looking forward to the rest of the Melly family visiting this fall!
4/23/08 Hope everyone had a great Earth Day! It's actually quite important in our house as we try to do our little part to Go Green. About 2 years ago, while we were at the park, I started to pick up trash. Tripp was curious so I talked to him about how we should all do our part to keep the Earth clean. Well, it stuck. Almost every night Tripp includes keeping our Earth clean and healthy in his prayers. And although we do this more than on Earth Day, we did go to the park and pick up 3 grocery bags of trash and recycleables. Amazing to me that a 6 year old boy would be more interested in picking up trash than playing at the playground. Now Myles did pick up trash, but he played first!
Mac and I had a 4 day mini-vacation this past weekend. We attended the wedding of a former West Point class mate, in the gorgeous area of Charlottesville, VA! Number one, it was a phenomenal weekend all around, but most importantly it was great spending time with an old friend and being apart of their special day. CONGRATULATIONS JASON AND CHRISSY BEVERAGE! We we also able to spend some time with our friends, Natalie and Christian, thanks for making the trip down! Check out the picture page!
My mom and step-dad graciously took vacation time to come to our house to stay with the boys. The boys had a great time, I think every spare moment was spent at a park! They also went to a Reds game on Saturday, which they both loved (at least the part Myles was awake for). Thanks to you both, you'll never know how much we appreciate you!
3/22/08 The boys started spring break on Friday, we had our friends over to dye easter eggs, but I forgot to take pictures. It was a really nice day, warm and sunny, and the boys rode thier bikes, ran races and had scooter races.
Mac ended up taking Myles to Children's Urgent Care around 6 last night. Myles was saying his throat hurt and when I looked I saw a white bump. His rapid strep came back negative, we'll get the other results on Sunday. He seems to be fine though, no temp.
Tonight Mac and I are going to see Bruce Springsteen. I bought the tickets a few months ago, not really realizing it was Easter weekend. Other than that, we're looking forward to tonight. This is the first "concert" we've been to since we've been married.
3/9/08 Here's a rundown on the last week..... Mac's mom and dad brought Chris up to our house on Friday night (last week). Saturday we all had a great time bowling. Sunday Mac and his dad spent some time together. The boys and I played outside and I cleaned my car, it was a gorgeous day. It was nice to open the windows and get fresh air in. My tulips are about 2 inches out of the ground! Spring's right around the corner, right? More to come on that.
Monday Mac's parents left and Lacy, Sam, and Ben came. Tuesday and Weds we mostly hung out at the house. Thursday we all went to the Children's Museum in Indy. Myles LOVES his cousin Sam and they had a great time playing together. Ben is such a cutie and kept right up with the big boys. After the museum we both went home.
And then the blizzard started on Friday. So much for Spring right? We got about 14 inches of snow in 2 days. Looking outside on Saturday looked like a snow globe, it was beautiful. Chris had his first experince with a dumping of snow. He wasn't too sure about it, it was alot of work getting ready to go out, but looked like he had a good time once he got started. Tripp and Myles had a blast, sledding down the driveway and trudging through the yard in snow up past their knees. We ventured out to look for sleds Sat. night but mostly everything was closed and no sleds to be found.
Sunday was the best day I had in a long, long time. The sun was shining, with not a cloud in the sky, the temp was about 36, perfect snow weather. Mac took off with Chris to take him back to his mom. The boys and I went searching for a sledding hill. Oh my goodness, I wish you could have seen them! This was their first time really sledding. They loved every minute of the 2-3 hours we were there! My 3 and 6 year olds were sledding down the path the big kids made a ramp on! The higher the better for them. I avoided the ramp, but did have to go down the hill a few times. It was a fantastic day all around.
