What an amazing and incredible day!! When daddy got out of the shower this morning, we woke Kaitlyn up by singing Happy Birthday to her. Then, we gave her a birthday card and her present. We gave her a Nintendo DSi so she could have her own gaming system in the car, in her room or wherever she may be :) She loved it! Because of the present opening and playing this morning, she was 10 min late for school. Considering she hasn't missed a day and has only been late once, it was quite all right to me :)

Towards the end of the day, I brought in the goody bags we made (she wanted to fill them with mechanical pencils, sunglasses, prisms, coloring crayons and of course, loads of candy!) and she passed them out to the whole class before they went home. She was so proud and so happy!

After, we went and visited Grandma and Grandpa to see how Grandma was doing after her surgery. Kaitlyn played for a bit before we headed to the mall. The first place on Kaitlyn's list was Build A Bear. She couldn't resist a cuddly soft pup, whome she named Love, and dressed in a beautiful white and pink sequin dress and white shoes with more hair bows than I'd care to count! From there we headed to the Disney Store where Kaitlyn picked out a large tinkerbell doll she could not live without! We took a short break from there and had some pizza before we went to Claire's. Kaitlyn has decided that she would like to start changing her earrings once in a while so she picked out some new earrings, a earring holder, a stuffed animal and a bracelet. We rounded out our mall trip with some cold stone creamery!! Yummy! When we got back in the car, Kaitlyn decided she wanted to stop by the house to change her shirt since she got some ice cream on it. Once we got here, she wanted to take a break and play with some of her new toys before we went and picked up daddy. So, we did just that! We started charging the DSi so that we could play with it tonight.

Once we got to Daddy's work, we went to John's Incredible Pizza with Daddy, Nana, Papa, Auntie Christina, Auntie Jamie, Carmen, Nicole, Dorin, Dominick and Isaiah. Even though it was way too crowded, Kaitlyn had so much fun! We ended up winning enough tickets to get her the birthday care bear which just made her birthday complete!

Thank you so much to everyone who left wonderful birthday messages, who called to wish her a happy birthday and who helped to make her 5th birthday really special!! She was so happy and kept saying how special she felt!! I still can't believe our princess is 5!!

Happy 5th Birthday Kaitlyn!!!

I cannot believe our little princess is 5!!  5 years ago, right around this time, I was asking Dusty if we could try to go to the hospital and see if I was in enough pain for her to come out.  I wasn't lol.  But, that night she was ready to meet her family.

Kaitlyn is just an amazing little girl in every way imagineable.  She stole our hearts and I don't think she's ever going to give them back.  We're looking forward to another special birthday with her and can't wait for the festivities to begin.

Only 8 days away until Kaitlyn turns 5!!  And only 5 days until the big surprise party!!  Just a reminder, Kaitlyn has NO idea that her party is going to be this Saturday or that it is going to be at the Moose Lodge.  We have concocted a story that we are going to use the day of to get her out there to be surprised!  We expect to have her there at 2:05 - 2:20.  If for some reason you are going to be late, PLEASE hold off and arrive around 2:30 so she can have the surprise she asked for :)  We are all so excited to see the look on her face!

This was a great week!  Kaitlyn had fun at school and enjoyed being really busy all week!  Thursday was girl scouts and this week, all the girls had big pieces of butcher paper that they traced eachother on and then colored in.  They had so much fun!  We've also been hard at work trying to avoid the flu, so we taught Kaitlyn how to gargle salt water.  She did not like it :P

On Friday we had a busy day of running errands.  Kaitlyn got to go home with Grandma and have dinner with her and Grandpa while Daddy and I headed to see baby Lisa!  She's absolutely gorgeous and perfect, we'd share pictures but mommy and daddy aren't comfy with pics on the internet and that's totally ok with us :)

We got in a little late, Kaitlyn was sound asleep, and we all headed to bed.  Saturday was hours of dance class and recital rehersal!  She had a lot of fun!

We're looking forward to everything this week will bring!!

Is anyone else having a hard time believing that this year is nearly over!!  In just 15 short days, Kaitlyn is going to be 5 years old!!  And boy she has grown!

Kaitlyn is thriving in school.  The week of her birthday is her parent/teacher conferences.  We've received her first mid trimester report card and were not at all surprised to see that she received outstanding and "above grade level" on everything.  She is counting and writing to 100 and sometimes more (if she's in the mood lol), she is doing addition and subtraction in addition to some smaller multiplication problems.  She loves to do math as word problems and is doing great.  She's reading, nearly any Dr. Suess book you put in front of her she'll read.  And she'll understand, which is a hard part.  She spends a lot of her days in the k/1st grade class reading with the 1st graders.  She has also shown a caring, helpful, energetic attitude, she hasn't been in trouble at all and helps the troubled kids "learn better."

The past few weeks have been pretty crazy!  Our girl scout troop has officially started!!  Kaitlyn is so excited, we have an amazing group of girls and I cannot wait to go through the year with them earning petals, badges and more :)  It's been so much fun already and we're just getting started!  Kaitlyn has been doing great in dance!  She's been taking tap, ballet and jazz and has her first recital next month.  She has been working SOOO hard on it and you can tell it's starting to pay off!  She was also a very lucky girl this week and went to Disney on Ice twice!  Once with Auntie Christina and one with Auntie Christy, Uncle Dennis and Camaryn!  She had a blast both times dressed as the beautiful Cinderella.

This year was the best trick or treating yet!  Grandma and Grandpa went with her, daddy and I and she insisted that we all stay on the sidewalk as she went to each house.  She is after all a big girl!  She walked up to each door, really proud of her costume, knocked and said Trick or Treat and then eagerly watched candy be put in her bucket.  We had to remind her a few times to stop going into people's houses.  We got a couple blocks in before she was done and said she was tired and worried we were going to get lost so we needed to go home.  From there, we passed out candy, until she decided to do it in her panties, and she was in bed at her bed time!

We have so much coming up in the next couple weeks, most importantly is going to be Kaitlyn's party.  I know she can't wait to be 5 and we can't wait to surprise her!

Things have been a bit on the crazy side ;)

Kaitlyn started and ended cheer this month, the program wasn't exactly what she wanted, or enjoyed, and she said she would rather wait until after the holidays to be on a "real" cheer squad, so that's our goal :)  She LOVES the cheers though.  She has been doing the two she learned around the clock and is so cute at them!  I'll take video soon ;)

Kaitlyn is doing amazing in school.  She has been reading past a kindergarten level and into the first grade level for a while now and isn't showing any signs of slowing down.  She's telling time on a "real" clock, counting and writing all the way to 100, writing sentences and learning so much about animals and the world around her.  She's made so many friends and her teacher said she's so great at helping, being kind and being friendly.  She spends part of her day in the K/1st grade class reading with the 1st graders :)

Last Tuesday, Daddy has eye surgery to repair his orbital floor wall.  All things considered, he did great.  He has been spending the past couple weeks healing and getting better.  Thanks so everyone that has sent good well wishes, and kept him entertained while he's been stuck at home.  :)

Kaitlyn's birthday  invitations have gone out :)  She's so excited for her party.  She knows that she's going to have one, but she doesn't know when, where or anything like that.  She thinks it's going to be the following weekend, so she's going to be SOOO surprised.  She helped create some wish lists of things she would like for her birthday.  Please know that your presense is present enough, but if you insist on getting her something, she made some ideas :)

Kaitlyn has spent the better part of last week redecorating her room :)  She decided that she was too old and too big for a play kitchen and that what she really wanted was a cozy place to watch her movies.  She was able to sell it easily and then went on a shopping spree for a new ottoman, bean bag chair, lots of picture frames, small entertainment center, new piggy bank, blankets and is on the look out for a couch ;)

Before Daddy's surgery, we were able to head to the Bass Derby and have a ton of fun at the carnival and the campsite.  Kaitlyn loved roasting marshmallows, playing games, riding rides, smores and all that good stuff :)  She was asleep before we were out of the camping area!

This past week we also celebrated Matthew's second angel day.  There are not words that can describe how much he is missed.  Thank you so much to everyone who reached out to us that day, your thoughtfullness and kindness are not without appreciation.  We are truly blessed to have the friends and family that we do.  We were able to decorate the cemetery and get him all ready for fall :)

Yesterday, we walked with Grandma in the Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.  We all walked 3 miles and then had some yummy food at Lee/Labio/Born house :)

This afternoon we are going to do Kaitlyn's Halloween pictures and this week is jam packed with fun!!

Kaitlyn would like to wish her Uncle Johnny a very happy Birthday!!

Holy Moly!!  What a week!

Kaitlyn stayed really busy.  Last Saturday we went to Auntie Alicia's baby shower for baby cousin Lisa, where Kaitlyn had a blast!  From there we headed to Dylan's first birthday party!  Which was a lot of fun outside running around.

Sunday, Kaitlyn had some daddy time while I went with Grandma, Auntie Christina and Auntie Sammie to look at wedding places before we headed to the cemetery and Grandma's house for Sunday dinner.

On Monday we had school, work and hanging out before we went to dinner with Nana and Papa.  It was close to Kaitlyn's bed time, but she was good and just merly wanted to sleep :)

Tuesday was a fun day, after school we did a little bit of shopping and then went home to wait for daddy to get home so we could go to Kaitlyn's family skate night!  She had so much fun skating, talking to friends and eating!  She slept good that night!

Wednesday was much more interesting.  Kaitlyn had school and then we headed to Chick Fil A for a playdate with Kayla, Hope, Beau and Dylan!  After, we headed straight to dance class where Kaitlyn, did Ballet, Tap and Jazz until her little legs were tired.   We ran some errands after and then went home while Daddy was at his game.  Shortly after Kaitlyn went to bed, Nana called to say Daddy got hurt at his game.  We drove to the ER in Folsom to see him.

At the end of the night we discovered that Daddy had 3 fractures in his right orbital medial wall, right orbital floor and nose.  It wasn't looking very pretty either.  After getting some very specific instructions we headed home.  Thursday morning Kaitlyn was such a good girl  and woke up early to go to school.  I spent the day on the phone and running around trying to get daddy in to see a specialist for his injury.  After picking Kaitlyn up she went with me to Folsom to pick up a CD of Daddy's CT scans.  When we got home it was homework time, dinner time and resting.

Friday was a busy day.  Kaitlyn went to school and I took Daddy to the Dr.  Where we had to go to Folsom again in the mdidle of the appointment since the CD we picked up the previous day was not working.  We then found out that Daddy did have to have surgery.  He is going to have a titanium mesh implant inserted through an incision in the eye-lid to replace his orbital floor wall.  Daddy isn't in a lot of pain, turns out that has to do with some nerve damage that is causing him to have a "novicane" numb feeling all the way from his top lip to the top of his eye.  They are hoping that they will be able to repair that nerve and gave him a 50/50 chance of having the nerve damage be permanent.  Daddy's surgery is going to be Tuesday, October 13.

Last night, we all hung out at home with Daddy, who doesn't want to go in public and be spectacle.  Kaitlyn got her free pizza for being student of the month and daddy and I got a HUGE pizza to eat!

Today is Kaitlyn's school carnival, which she is very excited for!

I am still hard at work on Kaitlyn's pictures.  I have uploaded all but July 06-June 07 on a new site.  Those pictures we do not have because of the computers being stolen from storage.  I have ordered a CD from BHP of all the pictures I have from that time on this site on a CD.  Once I have that, I can finish.  Until then, please enjoy the pictures I've uploaded from September.  Clicking on the picture below will take you to all of September 2009's pictures.  In a few weeks, this is how the "new" picture page will look and the family page will be more like the picture page is now.

Enjoy and be well!

We would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the rest of the Miller family this morning upon the passing of Aunt Jeannie last night.  Kaitlyn has enjoyed receiving cards and letters from her through the years and she will truly be missed.

To say Kaitlyn is thriving in school would be an understatment.  Last week, her school was selling popsicles after school.  As Kaitlyn and I walked to the big playground to buy her one, her reading teacher (the K/1st grade) teacher stopped me to tell me how great Kaitlyn was doing.  She said she was one of the brightest she's ever had, doing amazing in reading and will be reading far above her grade level by the end of the year.  She's reading a new book everyday and doing fantastic on her site words!  She said she was a pleasure to have in class.  Kaitlyn just smiled and after told me "I told you I was being a good girl!"

As I've mentioned before, to graduate from Kindergarten you have to know all of your numbers from 1-30, both by counting, writing and reciting as well as know 15 site words.  Kaitlyn has mastered both, with a month to go in the first trimester!  Today she was really disappointed at school.  She has to start writing to 50, while everyone else, except for one other little girl, get to write to 30.  She doesn't think it's fair that she has to work harder.  Mrs. Renfroe told her that doing it to 30 is too easy for her.  Still, Kaitlyn didn't want to.  When I saw her afterschool she was nearly in tears over it.  She said she just wants it to stay the same.  So, we got a slurpee and had a talk.  She decided that she would at least try it before she did her homework.  And she did it, easily, without any help.  She was so proud of herself, she showed everyone that was around!!  She's taking it to school tomorrow to show her teacher that she can do it.

Friday, Kaitlyn received her Citizen of the Month award.  She was so cute and so surprised to both get the award and that we were there to cheer for her!  Thanks to Grandma, Papa, Auntie Christina, Auntie Sammie and Uncle Davey for being there with us!  Look for video and pictures tomorrow!

This morning, Kaitlyn decided to come and sleep in our bed.  She had a sad dream she said, but it had a happy ending.  She finally told us what it was about.  This was her dream:

Everything in the world was turning white.  All the water was gone, all the grass was gone and everything was slowly turning white.  She had to go to God and ask him to fix the world.  Her cousin Hope (who had high and long pigtails at the side of her head) and her friend Richard from school, walked up 30 stairs into the clouds to talk to God.  She couldn't see him, but she asked him nicely to save the World and to fix it.  So, God put his big hands on the whole world and slowly it all started to be saved.  While Kaitlyn was in the clouds, she could see Matthew and he was so big he looked like he was almost 3!  Once God had finished, her, Hope and Richard got sad because they missed their mommies and started heading back down the long staircase.  When they got back down, the grass was green, there was water again and she wanted to celebrate.  So, we had a pool party and everyone was happy that the world was saved.

We had a busy, fun-filled weekend with family and friends.  We're sad to see summer go but are so excited for everything that fall is going to bring!

09/16/09

Last Wednesday, Kaitlyn had her back to school night at her school.  We had an ice cream social and remarks by the principal before we were excused to go to the classrooms.  In the classrooms we were able to learn about everything the students are expected to know by the end of the year.  They should be reading at the first grade level, know a total of 30 site words, know several pattern combinations (such as ABAB, AABB, AABAA, ABCABC) and what they are called, 15 shapes, a few dozen colors and be able to write, count and speak to the number 30.  Kindergarten is no longer for social skills we were told.  The class is also starting a new math program, to help with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Most of the class is starting out with the level 1 books.  This includes the Kindergarten and 1st grade combo class.  There is one group between the classes that is already reading at the level 2 books and will more than likely be reading at a second grade level by the end of the year.  This same group knows most of their site words.  :)  Kaitlyn is in this group!

We asked what we could do to help Kaitlyn improve at school, and after hearing other parents being given guidelines and suggestions, I was prepared to take notes and really hunker down.  Instead, we were given a big sigh and told how absolutely amazing it is to have Kaitlyn in class.  She is a breath of fresh air, constantly eager and ready to help.  It is obvious she's been worked with at home since she has already mastered writing in both upper case and lower case letters, doing all the counting necessary to "graduate", reading beautifully, incredibly well behaved and a social butterfly.  She is doing remarkably well and is an incredibly smart little girl we were told.  Which is always nice to hear.

Once we left the classroom, we got to meet some of Kaitlyn's friends outside of the classroom.  Turns out, aside from her kindergarten and 1st grade friends, most of her friends are 6th graders.  We left the classroom and were rushed by 5 cute 6th graders, running up to hug Kaitlyn and talk to her.  What she has in common with 11 year olds, I have no idea, but they seem to get along well :)  Then, we got to see her picture displayed outside of the library before heading home.

Thursday I headed to NY and Kaitlyn had a blast with Daddy time.  Thanks to everyone who made the trip possible by helping with Kaitlyn and Daddy.

Yesterday, I picked Kaitlyn up and she was super excited about a letter in her backpack.  She had no idea what it said since she was told not to open it but that it was important and to give it to mommy and daddy.  Every month, 1 student from each class is honored as Citizen of the Month.  These are the kids with superior behavior who excell in the classroom and demonstrate "DragonSkills" every day.  Turns out, Kaitlyn is being recongized for her class!  It's a surprise until Friday, but the principal wanted to be sure that we knew so we could be there with family, friends and our camera to celebrate it :)

So, we have a very busy week ahead of us with so much to do!  We hope everyone is enjoying the last few days of summer!
