Kaitlyn had her doctor's appointment today to evaluate her tongue. The doctor was impressed that she could stick it out some, at least to the bottom of her lip. I told him that sometimes it can be more if she wants to. He noticed exactly what I was worried about, she does not allow her tongue to touch the roof of her mouth.
He diagnosed her as mildly tongue-tied. He referred us to a Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor who will better be able to tell us what our best options are at this point. They will be the ones to determine whether or not she should have her tongue clipped or left alone to stretch on it's own.
Dr. Kono agreed with me that Kaitlyn is having difficulty speaking. He said that she is significantly speech delayed. While this isn't wonderful news, it isn't terrible either. Many of you know that when Kaitlyn points to something, it all sounds rather the same (excluding a few words she can say clear as day) with different variations in the pitch of the word. He said by her age she should be speaking in 2-3 word sentences and have a much larger vocabulary than what she does. He prescribed Speech Therapy for Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn's first appointment is for Wednesday afternoon. After that we should have a great idea has to what the plan of action will be.
Kaitlyn did have a great weekend! Friday night she got to have dinner with her Nana, Papa, Auntie Christy, Uncle Dennis, Camaryn, Mommy and Daddy at Aunt Christy's. She played and played. Then on Saturday while her daddy was working she went with her mommy to the Botanical Gardens. She had a great time until she fell and hurt her chin.
On Sunday, Kaitlyn got up bright and early and played her little heart out with Cousin Camaryn! She also got to see Aunt Jamie and Uncle Joel before taking a nap in Cami's bed. Kaitlyn wore herself out let me tell ya!
After that she got to go to visit her grandma and grandpa, Aunt Beth, Auntie Christina, Brian, Uncle Paul, Felecia, and Grandpa's doggie Johnny. She watered all of the plants for them and got a new present, Ballet slippers!! She was a really happy little girl!!
I am so happy that the weekend is only one day away! Yay!! This morning Kaitlyn is with her Auntie Christina on their way to a fun filled day in San Francisco. Kaitlyn has a Mervyn?s shoot this morning. I am sure she?ll do great and I?m sure Auntie Christina will have a lot of fun watching her in action!
Kaitlyn has had such a fun filled week! Her Auntie Sammie visited her and they got to play. She got to see a lot of her cousin Cami and play with her. She also went to her daddy?s game last night and had a lot of fun. Plus, she gets to go to San Francisco twice in one week!
This weekend we are going to have another try at getting Kaitlyn?s headshots done. I am determined to do them myself and I can get the best smiles of her, but I keep getting bad lighting. I had some amazing pictures last weekend, but I forgot to put my memory card in. I could have kicked myself! So, that is what our plan is for Saturday morning.
Sunday Kaitlyn is going to watch her daddy, Grandpa, Grandma and Uncle Dennis put in a new patio for the Tiki Bar so it will look amazing for Camaryn?s birthday party! She?ll get more time to play with Camaryn and to see her Aunt Jamie and Uncle Joel while they help Auntie Christy get more party stuff ready. It sure does promise to be a busy weekend!
When Kaitlyn was born, her doctor examined her tongue to check on the disorder she has that her mommy also had as a baby.. The disorder is called: Ankyloglossia but is more commonly refered to as being ?tongue-tied?. It occurs when when the membrane under the tongue (the frenulum) extends excessively toward the tip of tongue. When Kaitlyn?s mommy was 3, she had to have her tongue clipped so that she was able to talk. Kaitlyn?s Uncle Scott had to have the same thing done as a baby. Dr. Chao didn?t want to clip Kaitlyn?s tongue unless it was necessary. Since it was plain as day that Kaitlyn didn?t suffer any problems with breast-feeding, the decision was made to re-evaluate when Kaitlyn was talking. It is clear that Kaitlyn has Ankyloglossia, or at least had it at birth. The membrane under her tongue extended far past what is considered normal. However, it is common for the tongue to stretch the membrane and the disorder to not be problematic.
It is starting to appear that Kaitlyn?s Ankyloglossia may be problematic. She is having a problem with talking and it is starting to affect her behavior. She can say a lot of words and tries really hard to say more. It seems that the words that involve her touching her tongue to the roof of her mouth she cannot say. Because of this she gets incredibly frustrated. And we have a really hard time understanding some of the words she is saying.
So, on Monday afternoon we are going to go and see her doctor who can further examine the Ankyloglossia and determine if we should proceed with allowing it to try and correct itself or if we should attempt to correct the problem with clipping the tongue.
That?s what?s going on with all of us, what?s going on with you? Sign the guest book to let us know!
Well, Kaitlyn sure has been busy this week! On Monday she got to go and see her Auntie Sammie who was visiting all the way from Monterey. She learned how to open Grandma and Grandpa's fridge and get out her milk and point to her cup! She is a determined little girl.
Tuesday Kaitlyn went to San Francisco with her nana to do a Mervyn's shoot. I have been told that she was amazing. She had her pictures done with Lexi and Michael. She wore a plaid jumper dress and boots that she loved. She had a lot of fun yelling Peanut with the other kids. The ad is due out the end of September, on the 24.
After that, Mommy and Papa joined them for lunch then Kaitlyn came home to play with Archie. In the evening we went to a BBQ at Uncle Dennis and Aunt Christy's house. Kaitlyn had a lot of fun playing with Camaryn on her new playground. Below is some video.
Kaitlyn threw up this morning. I'm hoping it's just because she drank way too much water and then too much milk and tried to scarf down 3 pancakes. It wasn't much and she's in really good spirits. If she's feeling good, she'll get to go to Aunt Christy's again this evening while Daddy helps Uncle Dennis dig out a patio before Camaryn's big birthday party!
Kaitlyn and I left around 6 am headed for San Francisco. We got there right on top for her Mervyn's shoot. Kaitlyn wore a cute pink cord jumper with a long sleeve cream shirt under it with a double ruffle at the wrist. With it she wore cream stockings and tan shoes. She had her pics taken with Georgiana. The two held hands, hugged and played while they ahd their pics taken. The ad will be out September 11, 2007.
We were there for about an hour and then we rushed off to the Old Navy "go-fit". Basically, Kaitlyn was measured to see if she can be used for fit modeling by the Old Navy brand. The three women kept commenting on how good Kaitlyn was while they measured her! She was a happy girl!
From there, we headed to the other side of San Francisco where Japan town is located. We managed to find the video store and the copy of the tape of Kaitlyn in The World's Astonishing News! They were so nice. I really liked Japan Town and would like to return with her and her daddy.
With the Tape mission accomplished, and being so close to the Golden Gate, I decided to head home that way. I also really wanted to get some pics of Kaitlyn in front of the Golden Gate. So, we stopped, she played and I took my pictures. When we got back in the car Kaitlyn was instantly asleep.
On the way home, we stopped and saw daddy and Grandma at their work. When we got home, Kaitlyn played and watched Sesame Street. A little while later, Auntie Christy and Cousin Camaryn came over. Kaitlyn had a lot of fun with Camaryn. Then, we went to eat before heading to Auntie Christy's so daddy could help Uncle Dennis with Camaryn's new playground equipment she got for her birthday!
It was a busy start to a busy weekend, but Kaitlyn has been a happy go lucky little trooper! Be sure to check out the pics of her at the bridge!!
Kaitlyn had so much fun last night at her daddy's game. She got to hang out with her nana, papa, mommy and daddy. Even Auntie Christina and Brian came to the game.
Before the game, Kaitlyn had a blast playing with her trucks and cars. And even talked on the phone to her Aunt Linda. I got some new short videos of her:
Tomorrow Kaitlyn is headed to San Francisco. She has a pre-fit with Old Navy. I am hoping that we can also go to Japan Town and pick up the DVD of her TV show. If so, I can get that uploaded for anyone who wants to see it!
Yesterday, I thought it would be fun to get out for lunch. Nothing fancy, just something Kaitlyn would enjoy.
We went to McDonald's and Kaitlyn got a happy meal with McNuggets, Apples and a milk and we headed to the park for a picnic. Here are some of my favorite pictures!

Yummy milk, it does a belly good!:
Kaitlyn has been a little... testy the past few days. She gets so mad if Dusty looks at her the wrong way or tries to pick her up. She gets furious if Archie looks at her food, or if after she teases him with it he eats it. We're working on nipping these little tantrums in the bud. So far, telling her no and letting her have a tantrum and then ignoring the tantrum seems to be working wonders!
Kaitlyn's new favorite word: "NO", Here are some recent examples:
"Kaitlyn, do you want to go home now" NO
"Kaitlyn will you sit in the stroller" NO
"Kaitlyn can Daddy have a kiss" NO
"Kaitlyn, can I have a bite?" NO
She cracks me up!
On Sunday, I decided to let Kaitlyn help me make brownies to take to Grandma and Grandpa's house for dinner. All was fine and dandy and she was having a blast, until I told her that the batter wasn't her dinner. That was fun.
Kaitlyn is so helpful lately. She loves to help clean, empty the dishwasher and even put her toys and clothes away. If we ask her if her food is yummy, she gladly prepares us a bite and insists that we try it.
Kaitlyn is growing so fast! She is starting to talk more. She doesn't ever say anything on command and if we ask her to say it, she won't, but she'll surprise us.
One of my favorite parts of the day is letting Archie out in the afternoon. Typically he goes out around 4 and every day at that time there is a kitty outside. Kaitlyn gets to hold Archie's leash and she says Hi kitty and meows at it. When it's time to go inside, she excitedly waves and says BYE and then blows the kitty kisses. It's way too cute!
Kaitlyn's film debuts tomorrow! I should have a copy of the film by the end of next week and am working on getting the whole thing on the site. Worst Case scenario, I will put up her scenes! If you want the whole thing sent or e-mailed to you, let me know!
We are really excited about Cami's first birthday this month and we are of course already planning Kaitlyn's. We've decided that around her birthday we are going to redecorate her room. I can't wait! And, we are going to move our big girl up to a twin size bed. I'm sure she'll be thrilled, more jumping space! We are also on the lookout for an indoor trampoline for our little jumper.
I know it's been a while since I sent pics, but I will be sending out some 18 month pics, Fairy Pics, Family Pics and some others this week! If I miss you, let me know and I'll be sure to send them to you!
Kaitlyn sends her love, hugs and kisses. Be sure to sign her guestbook or drop her an e-mail.
Today is Kaitlyn's cousin Jake's 3rd birthday! She wants to be sure to wish him a very happy birthday! She wishes she could be there to help him celebrate and open presents!!
We love and miss you Jake! Have a very happy Birthday!!
Kaitlyn's Nana took her to San Francisco today for her go-see for the cover of Parent's Magazine! She left around 11:30. Kaitlyn wore a cute new blue dress and a blue heart clip in her hair. She met a photographer named Mark. He asked Kaitlyn to stand on a smiley face sticker, and she gladly did. Then he asked her to hold a piece of paper in front of her with her name and information on it and again she was happy to oblige! Then, she smiled and smiled. Kaitlyn's Nana said they got a lot of great pictures! I can't wait to find out if Kaitlyn got the job!
Kaitlyn was asked to do a shoot tomorrow for Mervyn's, but since we are still waiting for the work permit issue to be resolved, we had to pass. We should find out by Monday night though if Kaitlyn will get the Parent's Magazine booking!
Last Thursday she started not feeling well. We canceled her booking with Mervyn's for Friday and took her to see the doctor instead. She had been doing a lot of throwing up and we wanted to prevent her from being dehydrated. She got some suppositories and fortunately they started helping on Friday evening. She got to stay home with grandma while mommy and daddy went and saw Clerks II.
Saturday was so hot! Kaitlyn got to go to a late breakfast, early lunch with mommy, daddy, nana and papa! She was a good girl! Of course, she only wanted to eat things that weren't very good for her tummy, but other than that she was good. Saturday night, Kaitlyn went shopping with mommy while Daddy and Papa went to the River Cat's Game!
Sunday was another scorcher. Kaitlyn went to lunch with Nana, Papa, Mommy, Daddy, Auntie Christy, Uncle Dennis and Cami. Kaitlyn loved seeing Cami! After lunch, Kaitlyn got to go to Grandma and Grandpa's house! Auntie Christina, Brian, Aunt Beth, Uncle Paul and cousin Felecia were already there! She had a lot of fun playing and swimming in her pool!
On Monday Kaitlyn went to San Francisco for a go-see with Gymboree! She did really good! She was so smiley and the photographer kept saying how adorable she was! After that she got to go and see Cami. She was being really gentle and helping Cami to close the cabinets without her hand being in them, giving her water and playing with her. She loves Cami.
On Thursday Kaitlyn gets to head back to San Francisco! Parent's Magazine has requested her presence at a go-see for the COVER of the magazine!!
Well, Kaitlyn's keeping herself pretty busy as being the Mervyn's Super Star again!
Kaitlyn did awesome this morning at her shoot. She wore a cream colored long sleeved onesie with a really cute collar. Over that she wore a cute light pink cord dress and a matching cord hat. She also wore pretty little nylons and cute suede shoes! She was photographed with Secca, Belle and Sadie. These are also to come out the first week of September, so we should see a lot of Kaitlyn that week! She did so good in fact that they want to shoot her again tomorrow!
Our Little Princess was in San Francisco again today. She did another ad for Mervyn's and was so cute. She wore a long sleeve pink shirt with black dots on it and overalls that were denim and decorated with Minnie Mouse. My favorite was her hair. They put all of the front into a ponytail on top of her head so it was sticking up. I loved it.
She did awesome, loved putting her hand in her pocket and then was done. The release date is in September. I seem to have misplaced our copy of the voucher, so I'll have to update you soon.
Kaitlyn did get to play with Nancy. She was in "The World's Astonishing News" with Kaitlyn. Her mommy was able to buy a copy of the show and watched it. She said that the girls were in it only briefly. I'm working on finding us a copy so that we can post it!!
Last night at the store we bought Kaitlyn pull ups and explained (the best we could to a 20 month old) what they are for. We kept saying over and over when she uses up all of her diapers she can start wearing them and going on the potty like a big girl. So, we have about a weeks worth left of diapers and then hopefully we'll start on the potty. Wish us luck!
Have a great wonderful day and be sure to beat the heat!!
Well, she's not a teen anymore. Our little Kaitlyn is now 20 months old.
Whether Kaitlyn is around strangers, family or friends she makes 3 things incredibly apparent right from the first moment: 1. She is incredibly charming, 2. She is very smart and 3. She is a daredevil.
Kaitlyn has never met a stranger. She'll go up to anyone with an excited hi and when they (or she) is leaving, an enthusiastic bye. If you aren't looking at her or paying attention to her, she'll giggle, clap and make a high pitched noise until you do. She has no problem making friends. She likes to be right in the middle of the action, regardless of whether the kids are the same age or 10 years older. She is most certainly not shy and loves to show off her beautiful smile.
Kaitlyn truly is a smarty. She can recognize everything in all of her stories. I am always surprised and amazed by how many "Where is the..." questions she can answer without ever being formally told before. She loves to get her stories just to play this game. She can point out her colors, foods, animals, shapes and flowers. She can also point everyone around her out and say a lot of their names or titles. She is starting to talk more and more everyday. She is still a bit hard to understand, so she is going to the doctor soon to find out if that is a result of her young age or if it because of her tongue having the same problem mine did and requiring surgery. Kaitlyn will count up to the number 9. She likes for you to say it with her after 3, but does pretty good. Kaitlyn is really good at anticipating the next step in certain events. She knows that pulling into a drive-thru equals food, she knows what comes next in songs, she knows that if the car stops, she can help undo her car seat belt. She knows that if she smiles when I have the camera, I'll press the button and then she can see herself.
Kaitlyn has also become a good drawer. She draws many different shapes, some resembling things like hearts. She likes to draw the tail if I draw a cat. Then she hugs the cat. If you ask Kaitlyn what she is drawing, she'll tell you. She holds the longest pretend conversations on the telephone. Complete with hello, huh-uh, uh-huh, ohhh, wooow and good-bye. Then she hangs up.
Kaitlyn is pretty good at sharing. She's even started giving Cami her favorite cheerios and toys. And if Kaitlyn is thirsty, Cami is thirsty too so Kaitlyn insists on giving her a sippy. She loves to share her goldfish too. When modeling, she'll happily pass them out, one at a time, to the other kids there too!
Kaitlyn knows where all of her toys go and which drawer her jammies, t-shirts, and so on go. She's been really good about helping clean up, especially when it comes to her bath toys.
Kaitlyn is also getting ready to be potty-trained. She has shown a lot of interest in the toilet and goes to it and occasionally sits down before going potty. Within the next week or so, we hope to seriously give potty training a try!
To say that Kaitlyn is adventurous would be a major disservice to her and understatement. She responds to the name Evil Kinevil. Kaitlyn's idea of a good time involves climbing up anything, then jumping off. She particularly loves to jump into the air, and not only kick her feet of the ground but actually make her legs go out straight so that she can land on her butt. She likes to do this everywhere. She also really enjoys climbing to the back of the couch and walking on it as though it is a tight rope. She never gets hurt. Even if it's something that should hurt her, she doesn't realize it or so it seems. Even Archie's purpose is to climb. Kaitlyn also believes that everything is a "whee" or a slide. She will slide down the couch, chairs, toys, Archie, and even me if I'm sitting down.
In short, Kaitlyn's first 20 months have been amazing and I am sure they'll only get better from here. She is a gorgeous, sweet little girl that is truly loved.
Kaitlyn would like to give a special thanks to her family for making this summer amazing and truly looks forward to those special times and events still to come.
to everyone that came out to support herself and Cami in the Hawaiian Tropic Pageant today!
The girls both did really good. Camaryn won Best Attire, again! That girl has some amazing fashion sense let me tell ya! She was so cute on stage and had the sweetest shy little grin.
Kaitlyn did really good. She was super tired by the time it was her turn, when she got on stage, she walked right to the front, smiled and then showed her back and did a shy smile over her shoulder it was cute. She ended up winning most photogenic (Thanks Auntie Jamie for taking a gorgeous picture) and 2nd princess!! Here are some pics of the girls from today!
After the pageant and after lunch, we had the chance to see where Nana and Papa are moving too. Kaitlyn's napping now, but when she wakes up, it's swim suit and swimming time with a BBQ for Papa's birthday!
