2/27/2005 - Kaitlyn is experiancing her first cold and it's a bad one. It is so heart breaking to listen to her try to breath and just have wheezing. She also has a terrible cough. Her doctor is amazing and told us everything that we can do to help make her as comfy as possible and better faster. We're doing all that we can. Archie is cuddling with her as she goes to sleep, almost protecting her. She is up to 13 pounds and 3 ounces!!
On Tuesday night, November 16 I went to bed at about midnight with feeling what I thought were the same type of contractions I had been having for a few weeks now. At 2:30 in the morning on Wednesday, November 17 I was woken up by the pain of a really bad contraction. I tried to go back to sleep. Sure enough, ten minutes later, I felt the same feeling again. By now, I was starting to think, hey wait a minute, maybe I'm experiencing real contractions. I was starting to feel serious pain, but was so worried that I wasn't in labor at all. This went on until about 6:30 in the morning when I woke Dusty up and told him I though we had better get to the hospital.
We got to the hospital at about 8:00 am only to discover that I had only dilated to 1 cm and my contractions were pretty far apart to be in active labor. They were still about 7 minutes, but the pain was excruciating, or so I thought. The nurse told me to walk for about an hour and see if that helped me progress. An hour later, I was at 1 1/2 cm dilated. At about 11:00 am they sent me home since I hadn't made any progress. They gave me a relaxant to help me sleep and told me to come back when the contractions got closer together. By 2:00 PM, I was in full misery, I hadn't slept at all and the contractions were now stronger and closer together. I could feel the pain mostly in my hips, it was as though I was the wishbone on Thanksgiving and someone had each of my legs and were pulling them apart as hard as they could. We called the doctor and decided I should return.
We got to the hospital at about 2:30 PM and discovered that I was already at 5 cm and not only were they going to give me an epidural (I was so glad to hear that) but I was there to stay! Of course, we immediately called our moms to ensure that everyone was there for Kaitlyn's arrival. I got the epidural at about 3:00 and was very relaxed by 3:10. I do not think that I could have survived if it hadn't of been for the epidural. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't perfect, I have scoliosis so while it completely numbed my left side, it just took the pressure off of my right side. In my labor and delivery room, Dusty and I were now joined by both of our moms and dads, Christina, Samantha, Scott, Christy, Dennis, Auntie Beth, Grandma Mauda, and Jamie. In the waiting room were Stephanie, Craig, Hope, Allen and Alicia. At around 6:00 the baby's heart dropped to 50 beats per minute for several minutes. During this time Dusty was visiting his family in the waiting room for a few minutes, since all we were really doing in the labor room was waiting. All of a sudden 6 or 7 nurses came running into the room and made all of my family and friends leave. They started yelling at each other to do things, forced me onto my right side and then onto my left. They then put the oxygen mask on me and started a new IV. They worked for a couple of minutes before anyone told me what was going on. By the time I had the oxygen on, Dusty had come into the room to find out what was happening. They said the baby must have compressed the umbilical cord. I had to lay only on my left side for the rest of my labor.
By 6:30 the epidural had just about worn off and by 7:15 I was ready to push. By this time, I had no pain relief and could feel every contraction. Everyone left the room except Dusty, my mom, and Dusty's mom. The called the anesthesiologist so that I could have more pain medicine. He proceeded to "top off" my epidural. It provided no relief. I pushed and pushed and pushed. It felt like I wasn't getting anywhere. I was getting so tired, my legs, my back, my neck and my arms were exhausted from pushing. I am really glad that we had left the TV on, but muted, so that I could watch something and relax completely between contractions, which were 2-3 minutes apart. I watched That 70's Show. They are so funny!
At about 8:45 PM, I was ready to give up. My doctor decided it would be best to have the anesthesiologist give me more epidural medicine and then use the vacuum. He left the room to get a cup of coffee and the anesthesiologist returned. Less than a minute later I was having the strongest burning sensation and couldn't help but push. I told the nurse, she checked me and told me that the baby was crowning. She told me I couldn't push. Not pushing was the hardest thing in the world. Pushing was the only thing that would relieve the intense pain I felt. The doctor rushed in, they broke down the bed and I was told I could push to my heart's content. I could see the baby's head in the doctor's glasses and that is what gave me the strength to continue. Within a few short pushes I was pushing out her shoulders.
At 9:02, Kaitlyn Reagan Miller made her entrance into the world weighing in at 7 lbs, 3 ounces and 20 inches in length. At nearly 9:30, the rest of the epidural kicked in!
2/14/2005 -
She loves her swing! She would stay in it all day and all night if she didn't have to eat or be changed. It has the neatest mobile on the top with birds and leaves that she just stares at in amazement. I can't wait until she is a little older so she can play with the rest of the swing.
We've started incorporating more play time for Kaitlyn. She spends a lot more time on her play mats playing with her various, age appropriate toys. She likes to play on her belly, and her head is getting so strong! She can support it for so much longer.

Guess what Kaitlyn is getting! New teeth! We are so excited, our little prodigy is already teething. It looks like she has three teeth coming in! All on the bottom. You can see the tip tops of the two front bottom teeth and you can tell where one is coming in on her right side. Gosh, at this rate, she'll have all of her teeth in before she is a year old!
2/14/2005 - Kaitlyn is getting so much better when it comes to her hand eye coordination. For the first time yesterday she used her left hand to take her paci out of her mouth and hold it next to her ear. After a few moments, she put it back in to her mouth. We were so proud and excited for her!!
2/8/2005 - Kaitlyn lost her great grandpa Calvin on February 2, 2005. It was a devastating loss and he will be greatly missed. If you have any stories, or pictures to share with Kaitlyn about her great grandpa Calvin Miller, please e-mail them to me at tnkrbelll@aol.com. I would like to put together a book to remember him by for her. Thank you.
2/2/2005 - She is growing so fast. She is over 23 inches long, and weighs over 10 lbs. She is eating about every 3 hours during the day. Since she is nursing it is hard to tell how much she is getting each time. But, when she gets pumped breast milk she eats about 5 ounces each sitting!
She is getting so much better at sleeping during the night. She goes four hours at a time before waking up to be fed and changed. She is sleeping in bed with us after her first feeding and staying there until morning. We are going to start putting her in her crib within the next month or so.
It's a new year with a new beginning! Kaitlyn celebrated the New Year with her grandma and grandpa. They babysat her while her mommy and daddy went to Auntie Christy's house. They promised she was really good the entire time we were gone.
Well, Kaityln just celebrated her first Christmas! Too bad she slept through most of it!!
It all started Christmas eve at 2:00 pm. Dusty and I took Kaitlyn to meet her great grandpa Calvin for the first time. He seemed very pleased with her and thinks she looks more like Dusty!
From there, we went to see Aunt Beth. We had a lot of delecious food. Grandma and Grandpa were there, so were: Nana and Papa, Auntie Christina, Auntie Samantha, Uncle Scott, Jamie, cousin Felecia, and Uncle Paul.
After that, the three of us met Auntie Christy, Uncle Dennis, Great Grandma
Bobbie, Archie, R.d. and Bailey at nana's to open presents. Before the presents were passed out, so did Kaitlyn. She slept the entire time.
The next morning was Christmas!! We started by going to grandpa and grandmas in the morning. Grandma and grandpa were there, so were: Auntie Christina, Auntie Samantha, Uncle Scott, Jamie. More presents! Later on, Aunt Beth, Uncle Paul, Cousin Felecia, and great grandma Mauda came over.
After presents we stopped by home and were greeted by Cousin Allen and Alicia. Then we were off to Auntie Christy's.
At Auntie Christy's we saw: Grandma and Grandpa, Nana and Papa, Auntie Christina, Auntie Samantha, Uncle Scott, Jamie, cousin Felecia, and Uncle Paul, Auntie Christy, Uncle Dennis, Great Grandma
Bobbie, and cousin Hope. Joe, Cathy, Michael, Dennis, Thomas, Liz and Tim!
Kaitlyn got so many great gifts! Auntie Samantha even had a star named after her! Look in the sky for Kaitlyn Reagan!
Overall, it was a great first Christmas both for Kaitlyn and us! It wouldn't have been so without such a loving family.
Kaitlyn lost her umbilical cord Friday, December 3! She has the cutest belly button and gotto take her first real bath Saturday, December 4. She did so good, she didn't want to get out!
