October 2008
We are finally settled into a new routine here in Phoenix. It's been a crazy summer, but we've had a lot of fun with family and friends. I love being closer to all my grandparents and I've enjoyed having Aunt Zwei baby-sit me! Some highlights include a night a Rawhide with Mommy's side of the family, a two-week vacation to Oahu and Maui with Daddy's side of the family, visiting with Dave and Mary Ann from Japan, a super-fun second birthday, a trip to the pumpkin patch, and my very first overnight with Papa and Grandma Peterson. Now that I'm a mature two-year-old, I have focused on more "academic" interests. (No more gumming toys and shoving sand up my nose for me!) I am a terrific counter (I can make in into the teens so far) and am working hard on the alphabet (I tend to get stuck around "g.") I love to sing and dance, and I am developing a healthy obsession with sports such as "shoe-ball" (football) and golf. Daddy is quite pleased! Take a look at my "Summer/Fall 2008" picture album for some shots of the recent months!
May 2008
What an adventure the last few months have been! I had ear tube surgery in February which not only curbed my frequent ear infections but drastically improved my hearing and speech. Aunt Zwei came for a visit that same week and we had fun playing in the yard and visiting the zoo. I had a few more seizures in February, March, and April and had a brain scan done. Luckily, the neurologist didn't find anything abnormal. We had some more tests done and found that I have a minor immune deficiency. My doctor prescribed a long-term antibiotic and we've been seizure/fever-free for over two months now!
The craziest part of the last few months has definitely been moving BACK to Arizona. Daddy found a wonderful job in the Phoenix area and we are certainly glad to be closer to family again. Unfortunately, we had to spend nine weeks apart from Daddy while he started his new job. Grandpa and Grandma Kalcevich, Aunt Petie, and Grandma Peterson all came to visit, though, and this was a great help! Daddy, Mommy, Grandpa Kalcevich and I drove the moving truck and our car across Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona over Memorial Day weekend. I was a very good boy despite being cooped up in a car for three days. We're all very happy to be "home" again and we're excited for the next chapter in our life to begin!
Other highlights include:
*Switching to a "big boy" bed
*Starting all of that potty business (slow going)
*Learning to shoot hoops
*Saying lots of new words
January 2008
Happy New Year! So much has happened since my last entry. For starters, Thomas and Kristy came to
Baton Rouge to spend Thanksgiving with us. We had SO much fun visiting Oak Alley plantation, checking out Civil War coloring books, visiting New Orleans, decorating--and un-decorating--the Christmas tree, and of course, eating.
Other recent highlights include Grandpa Kalcevich's visit to
Baton Rouge and our trips to
Arizona and
California. We had a wonderful time over Christmas with the Petersons in
Phoenix. I got to ride Papa's tractor, was reunited with Chloe the Wonder Schnauzer, and had fun playing a special good morning song on the piano for Grandma every day. I especially loved Aunt Zwei and Uncle Mason's super fat cat, Daisy. (Believe me, there is nothing small, dainty or flower-like about her!)
After our visit with Mom's side of the family, we jetted over to
California for some time with the Kalcevich clan. Our trip hit a bit of a speed bump, however, when I had a seizure outside of baggage claim in the middle of
Ontario airport. We met about a dozen great emergency workers and rode in an ambulance (again) to the hospital. As it turns out, I had yet another double ear infection. I have to see a specialist later this month about getting my ear issue fixed for good. I'll keep you updated. ANYWAY, there were a few scary days until the fever finally went away but I was feeling better in time to ring in the New Year with all my favorite Kalcevich and Harris family members. We had a great time making daily trips to the garage to see the "tur-toe" (Telly the Hibernating Tortoise) and dancing with Grandpa's singing animals.
I was a good boy on the plane ride home--Mom and Dad were highly impressed. It was so much fun to see all the people I love but I was relieved to get back to my own bed, my new shopping cart, and of course, my cats.
November 2007
Baby's log. The last two months have been filled with strange and exciting events. It all began in early September when I was playing with my rocket scooter. I was standing up to push it and suddenly realized that it was possible to move even FASTER than I could before if I would just remain upright. Walking and running are so much more efficient methods of transportation than crawling...
In September Daddy and Mommy took me on a magical rocket ship to a distant land called "California." I chose the time on the rocket to loudly proclaim my dissatisfaction with the cramped surroundings and attempted to escape several times. Mommy and Daddy seemed very tired by the end of the trip and used the word "naughty" quite freely that day... The vacation was fun, however, and we all enjoyed seeing Daddy's family and attending his cousin Thomas's wedding. (We're looking forward to having Thomas and Kristy come for a Thanksgiving visit, too!) I was able to show off my awesome dance moves and loved trying to steal the strawberries off of everyone's champagne.
We have also enjoyed the visits of Grandpa Kalcevich and Grandma and Papa Peterson. I was so happy to see them! After Papa and Grandma left, I kept returning to their room to see if they were hiding. (It took me a few days to realize that they had gone home.)
My entire family was very sad to say goodbye to our kitty, Socket. She was a pleasantly plump friend and I miss her very much.
Daddy has begun taking me to a peculiar yet completely exciting place called "school" each day. I am surrounded by other friendly small people and we spend the day playing together. We also sing songs, play games, go for wagon rides, do art projects, and learn things like sharing and table manners. I love it and my teacher says I am the happiest person in my class.
Perhaps the most bizarre event occurred only a few days ago. I came home from school and had a normal afternoon with Mommy. All of a sudden, she changed my clothes and made me wear a giant shark suit. Mommy said I was going to deliver treats to a friend and handed me a pumpkin filled with animal crackers. And they think I'M the silly one in the family...
September 2007
This has been an event-filled summer! Mommy and I took swimming lessons together in July and I had a blast. I really loved going all the way under, and was a natural at paddling. Later that month we had my baby dedication at our church. That was a very special moment for our family.
In August Grandma Kalcevich and Aunt Petie came for a visit. We celebrated my birthday a week early with them and I ate my very first piece of cake. It was SO good and I was hyper for quite awhile. I loved all of my presents, too--especially the boxes and bows. On my actual birthday we went to the aquarium in New Orleans with our friends Brad, Kody, and Braden Wilson. I loved hanging out with my buddy. We saw some great fish, and I especially liked the rays and penguins. We topped off the day with some tasty beignets at the famous Cafe Du Monde. MORE SUGAR!!!
Some other things I've enjoyed this summer include a trip to the bounce house place, Bouncing Tigers, and riding my new rocket scooter. At Bouncing Tigers I had all the toys to myself and loved climbing everywhere. I still love chasing my kitties and I'm getting better at being gentle with them.
I'm getting really big, too. I weighed in at 23 pounds and am almost 32 inches tall now. I'm also getting really good at taking steps. I still prefer to walk the walls or crawl, but I'm slowly gaining confidence in my walking skills.
It's getting cooler here (finally) and I'm looking forward to blowing up my new bounce house and going for wagon rides. Most of all, I'm gearing up for a great season of LSU football. GEAUX TIGERS! Stay tuned for more adventures!!

Another exciting month has passed! The day after we returned home from Aunt Zwei's wedding, I had urinary tract surgery to correct a little issue that I was born with. Mommy and Daddy say that I was a trooper and I was up and crawling that afternoon. The next week I had my nine month check up, and was pronounced very healthy. The NEXT day I caught a little cold and was running a teeny little fever. When Mommy put me in my highchair later that day for supper, I had a sudden seizure. Mommy called 911 and the paramedics came and took us to the hospital...again. Apparently my fever had spiked over four degrees in about two minutes, causing the seizure. After three days of tests, doctor's appointments, and iv antibiotics, it was determined that I had...a cold. We learned that febrile seizures were not rare, were not harmful, and that some kids--like me--are just prone to them during early childhood. Mommy says that if nothing exciting happens for the rest of the summer, she will be thrilled to pieces.
A lot of other things have been happening, too. I've been getting really good at chewing grown up food and especially enjoy fresh fruit and veggies. No more baby food for me! This is primarily due to the fact that I sprouted three molars last week. It was quite the experience for us all. I've also started going to my caretaker's house everyday for a few hours. Mommy is going to be teaching Pre-K in the fall at a private school near the university where Daddy works and this summer she's helping out with some summer art classes. I love playing with my little group of friends everyday, going for wagon rides with my buddies, and listening to stories. They even have a puppy!
We're almost settled into our new house and are enjoying it quite a bit. I love to splash around in my baby pool out back and watch for toads, lizards, owls, and other fun critters. We've also been exploring our new state. The other day we went on a little plantation tour north of the city. On the way there Daddy taught me all about road kill by pointing out all the dead armadillos, possums, and other critters we saw along the way. We even saw three vultures! It was very interesting to see all of the old buildings, historical pieces, and documents at the plantations. I love to look at new things and take studying the world around me VERY seriously. Mommy says I'm quite perceptive. Needless to say, I was a good boy on our outing and had a great time taking in all the new sights . My favorite part was when we stopped to eat lunch at one plantation that is supposed to be
America
's most haunted house. In our opinion, it was just a beautiful old house with great French food and lovely gardens.
Anyway, we have more excitement coming up later this summer so be on the look out for updates. We are enjoying the bayou and are looking forward to any visitors who would like to drop by!

This month has been so exciting! I have been pulling up on EVERYTHING and EVERYONE lately, and really trying to stand on my own. Other major milestones include saying my first word (dada) to my daddy. I'm so excited about it that I say it all the time, even when he's not around. :-)
Last week I took my second plane trip. We all flew to Phoenix for my Aunt Zwei's (Laura, to most) wedding. She looked very beautiful and I enjoyed trying to pull the sequins off of her wedding gown. I had a blast seeing all of my Arizona and Minnesota family, and especially loved hanging out with my cool older cousin, Jacob. I followed him around quite a bit and enjoyed playing with his trucks and Legos. We had a nice Mothers Day that weekend, and took a very unique picture with me and my cousins, my mom and my aunt, my grandma, and two great-grandmas. It was pretty neat spending our first Mothers Day with that many family members.
While we were in Phoenix I got together with my good buddies Eli, Lauren, and Emma and their mommies, Bethany and Melissa. We all had a good time playing in the park and tearing apart Lauren and Emma's playroom. I miss them a lot and wish they could come and visit me in the Bayou!
Anyway, I'm looking forward to Grandpa and Grandma Kalcevich's visit in few weeks and am excited about taking swimming lessons this summer. I'll let you all know how that goes!

April 2007, 8 months old
I was born in Prescott, Arizona on August 18, 2006 at 11:13 am. I was breech, so Mom had a c-section, which took all of 13 minutes! I weighed in at 7 pounds and 7 ounces, and was 20 inches long. According to my parents, I've been a good baby. I smile all the time and I love to be around new people. Except for the occasional bout of extreme sadness, I am usually cheerful. (Dad says I am highly emotional.)
I've always been a very active baby; even in the hospital, I insisted on thrashing around and getting plenty of exercise. It should come as no surprise, then, that as soon as I started rolling around Christmas, I've been on the move. In February I started getting up on all fours and rocking, and by early March I was crawling. For the last couple of weeks, I've been working on pulling myself up onto the furniture, trying to take a few steps while hanging onto the furniture, crawling over anything lower than two feet off the ground, and chasing and wrestling my cats.
