December 22nd 2005 - I can't believe that I am typing about another hospital admission. What on earth are we doing wrong? Does our little girl really deserve this? Jenna had to be blue-lighted to Kingsmill hospital with Jon, after having an episode where she was fighting for her breath. She had already had a G.P appointment that afternoon due to a rather suspect sounding cough, but was given the all clear. Jon rushed back down to the doctors where they called an ambulance. I ran down the street to meet them to hear the sirens, it was terrifying to say the least. Jenna had another episode in the ambulance, even the ambulance men were rather concerned. They grabbed Jenna, ran into A&E to the crash team, by this time she was stable. Jenna was diagnosed with croup and given steroids, after which she improved greatly. Jenna and I spent a night on the children's ward, which was fab - not to be staying there, obviously! But it was a huge improvement on Lincoln. We made the decision to come home the next day after the ward round. They would have been happy to keep her, but couldn't actually treat her with anything. I don't think we could have faced another Christmas in hospital. What a drama queen!!!!!!!!

December 24th 2005 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNA!!!!!!!

It is so very surreal to be typing those words, where has this last year gone? I am very sad to be seeing my baby growing into a toddler, but on the other hand so very proud of my little star. She has come so far, she is one amazing little girl!

December 20th 2005 - I was absolutely thrilled today to find that Jenna weighs 18lb 10oz! Considering she lost @1lb due to the RSV I am really shocked, but over the moon!

December 12th 2005 - (8 months corrected) I was absolutely horrified to find Jenna standing at her babygate today. Very proud, but finding it hard to see my baby growing up. She is a clever girl though!

November 25th 2005 - Jenna gave us all a scare today, she had been unwell for some time with a throat infection, cold, etc. Yesterday I took her to the doctor's where he prescribed some steroids after diagnosing Jenna with bronchiolitis. I spent all night on Jenna's floor next to her cot, by the morning I was a very concerned and Jon took her to A&E where they arranged an ambulance to take her to Lincoln. Jenna was diagnosed with RSV bronchiolitis and after a night on the children's ward, Jenna seemed to be much better and we came home. To be honest Lincoln is the last place we wanted to be, too many bad memories and the care is diabolical. After a week or so of spoon-feeding Jenna juice she soon got back to her old self.

November 17th 2005 - (7 months corrected) Thank goodness! Jenna has her first tooth. We had even thought about checking Mothercare out for dentures.

October 7th 2005 - (6 and a half months corrected) Jenna sat up for the first time today. Very proud mummy moment!

October 5th 2005 - Another weigh in today - 17lb 4oz! Quite respectable, now I know why Jon calls Jenna snooker table legs! Bless her!

September 7th 2005 - The dreaded weigh in today! Not too bad at 16lb 6oz. Jenna just can't stop still though, burning up all those precious calories! Jenna's friend Millie is 10 weeks old and is already 17lbs! A bit of catching up to do then!

September 4th 2005 - Today was a very special day, it was Jenna's Christening and it was wonderful. Jenna was a very good girl, apart from making a pig of myself and being sick in her pushchair. She has 4 wonderful godparents - Aunty Vicki, Uncle Jez and two of my  very special friends Amanda and Helen. Do they know what they are letting themselves in for though? It was a lovely day, lots of our friends and family were there, the sun shone and it couldn't have been better.

August 19th 2005 - (19 weeks corrected) There's no stopping Jenna, she can now roll front to back. Clever girl!

March 25th 2005 - Today would have been Jenna's due date, Good Friday. Strange to think that she is 13 weeks old already. Jenna weighed 8lb 5oz this week, she would have been quite a big girl if she had gone to term!

February 26th 2005 - Yes! We are going home at 36 + 1 weeks gestation weighing a whopping 5lb 8oz! I didn't actually keep a diary while Jenna was in hospital, something I now wish that I had done. We were so very lucky that Jenna had a relatively smooth ride during her stay. We had a huge fright when Jenna developed a PDA, a little oxygen at 32 weeks helped her through this and it has since closed. They also discovered that Jenna had a brain bleed before birth, we were very concerned at the time that it may cause some problems but none have surfaced so far. Phew!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Grandma, Nana and Grandad, Uncle Jez and Aunty Vicki for their help during this time. We could not have done it without you.

I would also like to say thank you to my wonderful friends Kerry, Liz, Suzanna, Pippa and Rachel, who I met on the ward. We laughed and cried together, you are all fantastic!

January 4th 2005 - The new year passed with little fuss. We hoped that it was going to be the start of a good year though. Jenna had had quite a good week, apart from a tummy problem. They had only just started her on feeds as she was aspirating quite a lot of black gunk, thought to be caused by the CPAP blowing air into her tummy. But hey! The CPAP was gone and Jenna was on her way back to Lincoln today, in air! Clever girl!! I went along with Jenna in the ambulance, which I was very pleased to do. I didn't want to leave my little girl for a second. Lincoln was not at all what I expected, very different from the City and we found that extremely hard to deal with at first. Jenna was put into isolation for 5 days, just in case she had MRSA. She seemed miles away from the nurses and I really wasn't happy that she was alone in a ward. This finalised my decision to live on the ward, there was no way that I was leaving her....

December 27th 2004 - After 3 days at Lincoln I was more than ready to go and meet my little girl. We got to Notts City Hospital and very nervously walked down that very long corridor to meet her. I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised at how much like a real baby she looked, just in miniature. Her little finger was the length of the nail on my little finger. Jenna managed to come off the ventilator after 24 hours and was currently on CPAP and having time off already, clever girl! My care had been transferred to the maternity ward upstairs, so I could see Jenna anytime that I wanted. Like every 10 minutes!

December 26th 2004 - Jenna had her first cuddle with Daddy and lots of wires.

December 24th 2004 -   I lay in the hospital bed, in quite a lot of pain but I still had no idea that I was actually in labour. I went down to the midwives station to mention the fact that I was in a lot of pain but she was far too busy feeding a baby to take much notice of me. She told me to take some paracetamol, which I had to get from my bag, and have a bath. I lay there for the next 3 hours in agony, where no-one came to check me. I managed to get out of bed and I collapsed on the way up the corridor. Finally!!! She checked me, only to tell me that I was having a contraction. I was wheeled upstairs to the labour ward where they frantically tried to find Jenna's heartbeat with no luck. I had never felt pain quite like it, the gas and air had no effect whatsoever. Jenna was transverse and very high up, the next step was a c-section. I remember sitting on the edge of the table, while they tried to site the epidural, thinking that my baby was dead. After many attempts, they decided to knock me out, I felt relieved to be out of pain and, to be honest, I didn't actually care if I never woke again. All this time, Jon was asleep at home in bed completely oblivious. I didn't want him to have to get out of bed in the middle of the night to hear this news. Anyway, I did wake up! LOL! To hear that I had given birth to a tiny little girl who was doing o.k. They brought a photo down to me and it was instant love, I had no idea whether she would survive but we would do our best. Jenna wasn't lucky enough to receive any steroids. so in my mind things weren't looking good. Jon arrived, in total shock, and a complete mess! We couldn't look at each other without crying, but we had to be strong, we had 2 little girls now. Later that day, I was sent down to the maternity ward amongst lots of very happy new mum's and screaming babies. That seemed very cruel to me, I had no idea whether my baby would live or die at this point. I was told that Jenna was going to be transferred to Notts City Hospital as she was under 28 weeks. They brought her down to see me in the transporter and it was the most heartbreaking sight. I couldn't see her properly because the light was shining on the port-holes, it broke my heart. Anyway, this is how baby Jenna made her dramatic entrance into the world, things do get better, honest!...........

December 23rd 2004 - I had been discharged again from hospital, again, earlier that day and was getting ready for Christmas with a little help from Becca. I felt very uncomfortable but put it down to the examination that I had had earlier that day. It steadily got worse and I began to worry . Jon was just on his way out to work a night-shift about an hour away from home and something told me that I needed to go to hospital. On arrival, they did the usual blood pressure check, etc but didn't palpate my tummy even though I was complaining of pain. I thought no more of it and went down to the ward for the night as usual, thinking of what shopping I had to do the next day, as you do.....

December 14th 2004 - Today was the very first day of the huge emotional rollercoaster that we were to embark on. Little did we know that 10 days from now that Jenna would be born. I woke up this morning with a little bleeding, panicked a bit and Jon rushed me to the hospital. Once there, I was checked over and admitted for observation. The bleeding subsided and as no problems were found I returned home. I think that I had another 3 admissions over the next 10 days, the hospital decided to put the problem down to an infection, was put onto anti-biotics which didn't seem to help at all. I just decide that it was one of those things and would continue throughout my pregnancy, but I had no idea what was to come...
