Stories

November already? Where does the time go?  Charlotte certainly keeps us busy and entertained.  A few days ago, she stomped her feet and said "I am so mad!"  Wow.  How do you keep a straight face?  We recently started time out.  Amazing how fast they figure that out.  It's going pretty well.  I'm just not sure what to do in public situations.  We haven't had that problem yet. I'm open to suggestions!

We went to the air show last weekend to see the Blue Angels perform.  Charlotte loved all of the displays and loud airplanes, but I think she might have an unrealistic view of what her daddy does when he goes to work.  We will be going to the San Antonio air show next weekend as Ben is taking the pink Delta breast cancer awareness jet over for a display.  Mommy and Daddy will work the show while Charlotte, Mimi and Manda enjoy the displays.

More to come!

09/18/09  I know it's been ages since I've updated Charlotte's Web!  We have been so busy.  We moved to a bigger house last week. Mimi was kind enough to swap houses with us.  Why didn't we do this last year when she first bought the house?  Hmmm... Good question.  Charlotte loves all of the space. Mommy and Daddy love the cul-de-sac.  Big thanks and hugs to Grammy, Pops, Manda and Stacey for all of the help!  I don't know what we would have done without them.

Charlotte is such a big girl!  The Courtright schedule has been a little off lately, but she hasn't missed a beat!  She's been telling me it's time to potty train for about three weeks now, but we've been too busy to tackle that.  Charlotte is so strong willed - I'm convinced she will teach herself how to use the potty.  I think we will give it a try when we come home from vacation.

I'm constantly amazed watching Charlotte's little wheels turning.  She can now identify: octagon, oval, circle, square, star, heart, rectangle and triangle - we're working on rhombus.  That's a hard one.  She also knows some colors, letters and numbers.  They are such sponges at this age!  I'll skip the part where she randomly repeats naughty words she's heard during this big house swap.

I promise to post new pictures soon!

6/13/09  A couple of weeks ago Charlotte said, "Cow says moo."  Today, she pointed to my eyes and said, "That mama eyes."  Wow. Sentences?  Already?

6/10/09 Charlotte is 17 months old today. Her daddy calls her a "sassy broad." She is definitely a willful child. We have no idea where she gets that from. Life seems to be a little easier when we keep busy so that's exactly what we've been doing. Mommy and Charlotte have both been sick for a while, but that hasn't stopped us. Last week, we went to Moody Gardens with the Majors. Charlotte is now obsessed with penguins. We've been talking about penguins, fish, frogs, elephants, and gorillas for days now. She has quite the vocabulary for a 17 month old - about 70 words. Ben has been gone a lot this month so we are spending our days at the pool, playing with Charlotte's BFF, Julianna, and shopping. Charlotte is also quite the dare devil. Mommy has found her sitting on top of the kitchen table, playing in the toilet water (yes, the lid was down), straddling the back of the couch, opening locked cabinets, trying to brush Dante's teeth (probably the most dangerous of all), and climbing in the closet. All of this activity makes it difficult to update websites, email, talk on the phone, eat, sleep, etc... We are often exhausted, but this is such a fun age. We are enjoying every minute!

4/3/09 Charlotte and Dante are best buds these days. I never imagined that he would tolerate her much less like her. As you can see in one of the pictures, they are getting along quite well. He's obsessed with rubber ducks, and she's happy to fetch them from the tub for him. It's a great relationship.

This past month has been a full one. RaRa was here for a few days while Uncle Darin was at MDA. We spent a little time with Aunt Nic too. Monique spent her spring break with us helping watch Charlotte while we did more work at Mimi's house. Uncle Richard visited from Vienna, and Auntie Shawna will be here in a couple weeks! We love visitors!

Charlotte has a new word - Dyson. Hmmm.... Thanks for calling attention to my issues. She points to Mommy's coffee and says "hot," and she touches her milk and says "cold." We brush teeth several times a day. She's very into oral hygiene. Future dentist or future OCD? Charlotte likes to blow on her food and say "hot." She is such a sponge. This seems to be about the time you really have to watch what you say and do. I'm beginning to imagine future humiliation...

3/3/09

Charlotte is walking and talking!  Ben has been on a Barcelona trip for the past 7 days, and I think he will be shocked when he gets home tonight.  He always says she changes in the time that he has gone, but this week has been unbelievable - even for me.  Charlotte is toddling around, crashing sometimes. I keep telling her walking would be a lot easier if she didn't have the remote control glued to the side of her head like a phone.  This week she is saying: Dante, dog, cat, yow (for meow) key, bath, poop, teddy, stinky, baby, nyo (for no), Papa (for Loren), Mimi (for Diana), Mama, and Daddy.  Do we have a genius on our hands? Maybe.

2/9/09

We celebrated Charlotte's first birthday again in Kansas City at the end of the month.  It was great seeing everyone again.  Unfortunately, we all returned home very sick - seems to be a pattern.  We spent several days with RaRa and Gramps, and then drove to Council Bluffs to infect the Atteberry home. :)  Charlotte took a few steps at RaRa's and Aunt Shawna's, but she still isn't walking. Mommy isn't exactly encouraging the walking either.  It will happen soon enough!

It's so hard to believe a year has passed!  Charlotte has been the most incredible blessing in our lives.  Our home is full of smiles and giggles, and each day is full of discovery.

Charlotte's birthday was last weekend. We had a fabulous party with close friends and family.  Charlotte was a little crabby and busy cutting 2 teeth. That makes 4!  She's now working on 2 more.  This week has definitely been full of milestones.  Charlotte said, "Dante!" for the first time, we switched to whole organic milk mixed with the organic formula, and we are working on sippy cups.  This morning, Charlotte imitated me saying, "No touch" by shaking her finger at me.  It was adorable!

Seems like we will be sending her off to college next week!

12/23/08

It snowed in Seabrook on the day Charlotte turned 11 months.  It was beautiful.  Ben made it home in time to see the last couple of inches before it all melted.  He was thrilled to have snow without the clean up.

We are ready for the whirlwind that's headed our way - Christmas, Charlotte's birthday, and my birthday.  We are busy planning a small party at home with friends and a family party in Kansas City.  Can't wait to post pictures of Charlotte's first taste of cake.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

12/03/08

Charlotte celebrated her first holiday last Sunday. We hosted our annual Thanksgiving dinner for family and friends. She loved her MiMi's sweet potatoes and the pumpkin pie!

We went to see Santa today for the second time. That's a long story. She wanted no part of the man with the white beard! This was no surprise to Mommy! I love the picture though - such a classic.

Charlotte is now clapping when someone says "clap." She says "mama" all the time - and sometimes "dada." She also gives kisses when we ask for them. She points to noses, mouths, and eyes - we are working on "gentle" pointing. She babbles constantly, and we love it!   Charlotte likes to play any musical instrument she can get her hands on.  Mommy is thrilled that she also enjoys books - especially turning the pages.

10/16/2008

We spent the past few days in Omaha meeting cousin Hayden who was born October 8th. Hayden is precious.  He looks just like Brooke did when she was born - just slightly larger.  Charlotte loved playing with Brooke and even learned a few new tricks.  Mommy's not so sure how she feels about those new tricks...

10/10/08

Charlotte is 9 months old today!  We saw Dr. Bootin this morning. Charlotte is 90th percentile in height and 50th in weight.  We are introducing some table foods now - that's been lots of fun.  Mommy is still a little neurotic about the organics, but she's trying.

Tracey came over yesterday to take Charlotte's 9 month pictures.  We should have a preview early next week. I'll post when she sends the link.

9/30/08

Charlotte has her two bottom teeth! Lots happened during Hurricane Ike evacuation. Charlotte started waving, saying "mamamama," and reaching to be picked up. Yesterday she pulled herself up on the crib rail and then cried because she didn't know what to do.  She's also making a clicking noise with her mouth when she concentrates.  It's hilarious.

We really enjoyed visiting Aunt Martha and Uncle Gene in Rayne.  Charlotte loved playing with Gavin, Mason, and Aubrey, but it's time to get back to the Courtright schedule.  Wish us luck on our sleep challenges!

9/17/08

We ran from Ike on September 11th fully expecting to be homeless by September 13th.  Once again, we were extremely blessed.  We are still in Rayne, Louisiana.  Tomorrow we will pick up a few things here (groceries, new chainsaw, gas, etc.) and head back on Friday morning during Charlotte's nap time.

Charlotte's first tooth appeared today...

9/9/08

Charlotte is babbling like crazy, experimenting with food, and scooting all over the house.  She still doesn't have any teeth or hair, but Mommy and Daddy think she's just precious.  The past few days have been very hectic. I heard that we would begin a mandatory evacuation on Wednesday, September 11th.  I immediately started packing from our "go list."  Turns out it just might be another false alarm.  I'm tempted to stay packed until hurricane season is over.

7/28/08

We went to KC and Omaha last weekend, and Charlotte came home with a sore throat and terrible sleep habits. We made our first unscheduled visit to Dr. Bootin's office to rule out strep.  Charlotte is weighing in at 17 lbs and measuring 28 inches.  She's definitely a tall girl! We are experimenting with puffs and teething biscuits. It's always interesting around dinner time at the Courtright house!  She wears more than she eats. How do puffs make it behind her ears?  Dante is quite pleased with this new phase and looks forward to Charlotte discovering gravity.

7/9/08

Charlotte had her first swim lesson yesterday. Ben left on a last minute trip to Rome so he missed the big event. There were a few tears - mostly due to stranger anxiety. She was a natural swimmer just like her mother! I wasn't able to take any pictures since I am in the pool with her, but we hope Daddy makes it to a lesson next week so we can post some photos to share with everyone.

6/13/08

Tracey took Charlotte's 4 month pictures at the beginning of the month - more like 5 month pictures. That's how long it took us to coordinate our schedules! The pictures are precious. She's so talented. I've posted a couple of samples.  See the entire album on her site.  Email me for the password.

It's been quite a week. Ben was rear-ended in our MDX by a freightliner truck, we had a hail storm that damaged the truck in the driveway (and possibly the roof), the hard drive crashed on the Mac losing everything, and we should know soon if the car in Atlanta has hail damage as well. Nice.

On a lighter note, we went to see Dr. Bootin this week for our 4 month appointment. Charlotte is 14 lbs and 26.25 inches long. We're working on eating rice cereal this week. I'll definitely have to post some pictures of this. She takes about 4 bites, spits everything out, shoves her fist in her mouth, and then screams for the bottle. We're crossing our fingers that fruit is a little easier...

5/4/08

Charlotte has her first passport stamp! We went to the Bahamas with the Atteberrys this past week. Brooke and Charlotte had a great time - the parents were a little tired.  Check out our new pictures!
