Stories 4 Apr - Well it's official we're a house full of two-year olds! The boys' had a wonderful birthday weekend, jam-packed with lots of activity. We had a nice, small get together with Uncle Thad, Auntie Raquel, CJ and Auntie Sharon and Courtney. The boys' had so much fun they didn't want to go to bed, since it was their party...they didn't go down until nearly 10:30. They didn't want to miss a moment of fun. We are truly a blessed family to have such wonderful, dear friends...it made the boys' birthday all the more special to share it with them. Thank you to all of our friends and family for the very kind and generous Birthday wishes, cards and gifts for the boys', these guys' are loved by many! 31 Mar - Thus far the marathon birthday weekend has consisted of a trip to the zoo and a family adventure at Seaworld! The boys' have been having such a marvelous time, ROb took off work and they've loved having him to play with and perform for all day long.
They thoroughly enjoyed themselves at Seaworld today. They watched a few shows, the Sea Lions and of course, Shamu. They played for a very long time in the children's area. That was just a child's dream...nets, tunnels, bouncy places, water...you name it. Of course, they took of in different directions. Dad tried to keep up with Gabe..."tried" is the operative word. He was just a whirling dervish of activity!! Brett kept Mom busy exploring every nook and crany he could find! Then we found some little girls that he flirted and played with for the longest time! Too funny.
Needless to say they had alot of fun, we also let them feed the dolphins. Well Mom went nuts and bought waaaay too many fish...but not to worry as at one point Dad tells her..."Hey watch out, Gabe's putting it in his mouth!" Mom tried to laugh it off and said something about "sushi?" Gabriel finally relented and started giving the fish to the dolphins, but poor Brett. He liked the dolphins ALOT but just not enough to give away his fish! He cried each time Mom helped him give one to the dolphins. Hard to tell what they liked more playing with the dolphins *OR* the dead fish?!?!?
Anyway, they're in the bathtub now and they'll need plenty of rest. Tomorrow's agenda consists of a trip to the park, friends over for a small get together for them and LOTS of cake!!! Dad made each of the boys a cake and I'll put pictures tomorrow...they are UNBELIEVABLE! He did SUCH an amazing job. I'll try to upload some pics now and then some more tomorrow.
30 Mar - Happy 2nd Birthday to our two darling sons'...Brett & Gabriel you are such blessings to us. We love you so very much and are so very lucky to be in your beautiful lives! love forever, Mom & Dad 23 Mar - So if I ever doubted that I (Mom) was a Drama Queen today proved it beyond doubt. Reflecting on my choice of words I realize there were "less dramatic" choices. Here's the scoop...there was an accident whilst playing outside, Brett took a pretty good fall after I had taken instant "Mommy Medic" action I called Rob at work and the first words out of my mouth were...."(sigh) Well I finally got the bleeding to stop." Poor Rob that was a very dramatic intro to an event that he hadn't even witnessed. Though painful for Brett I'm sure it was not as bad as I initially thought. He busted his mouth. porr fella, plenty of bleeding and big 'ol fat lip. So for the rest of the day he gets the "super duper nurture treatment". I wonder if I'm prepared for life with twin (very active) sons....I'm sure God knew what he was doing so I'll keep having faith.
The Tylenol has kicked in and they are both napping...think I'll rest for a bit too!
20 Mar - Happy FIRST Dat of Spring!! We've had spring-like weather for awhile here in Texas but its just nice to say "It's Springtime!" Time is really flying by, and speaking of that -- the boys' 2nd birthday is most rapidly approaching! They have grown so very fast. I remember everyone say how fast they'd grow and I must admit until it happens...you don't believe it could be true.
Update on Granma Dwight, her knee is still causing her alot of pain and she's going to be scheduling another surgery for a knee replacement. She's quite young to have that done but the doctor said she has no cartilage in that knee and this was the best course for her. So keep the prayers going to/for her!! Let's see recent events...Daddy took his promotion test but won't find out how he did until June. Mom & Dad went to a concert with Courtney and Auntie Sharon watched/played with us. They went to see "Nickelback"...not fair cause we like their music too!! Mommy and Daddy celebrated another wedding anniversary, and Daddy celebrated 14 years in the Air Force. We've been going to the park a bit more frequently and Daddy took some new videos. He says we are "Courageous!"
17 Mar - So Mom has been remiss in updating stories and the site for that matter. She's going to slip in a few backdated stories so it isn't a NOVEL of sorts on the front page. We (Brett and Gabriel) have been adding alot to our vocabulary as of late. Gabe likes to say "Here ya go" "There ya go" "All done" these are his favorites. Brett likes "Where'd it go?" and "What is it?". They are so cute with their phrases. They can distinguish between cars and trucks now. They love to hear and point out airplanes and tranes. They both say "bye" to everybody and everyTHING...you name it...bath water? "bye-bye" bubbles?" "bye-bye" Very funny. Courtney came over a few days this week to hang out with us (she was on spring break) We took the boys to the zoo, to a gourmet international market (Mom went NUTS!) and just played and had a great time.
10 Mar - Granma Dwight's knee surgery wasn't as successful as we'd hoped. She's going to have to have a knee replacement in a few weeks...after she's healed from the last treatment. Poor Granma is in alot of pain right now...we hope she feels much better soon! Sending hugs, kisses, love and prayers!! 3 Mar - Quick note before bedtime. Granma Dwight's knee surgery went well and she's home recuperating...we're sending lots of hugs, love, prayers and kisses! Be sure to check out the newest videos...I can't believe what I caught on tape! With twins it's hard to get good photos of both at the same time...so getting what I did was ABSOLUTELY priceless! You'll be like Rob and rewind a dozen times to watch it over and over! 1 Mar - Hugs and kisses to Granma Dwight, she has been in the hospital with really bad arthritis in her knee. We hope she feels better soon and that the surgery is a success. We need her super healthy to chase us around for many, many more years! We woke up Mom in a new way today. Dad had to work overnight so Mom left the door open between our rooms. When we woke up we just started quietly playing in both rooms and Mom heard us laughing and that's what woke her up. Sweet, huh? We're getting ready to start our training session. Mom will be sure to update later. Man things get easier with every new word and phrase. Today, "Gabriel wants to play with something so he goes where it is kept, points and says" Pay Doh", you want play doh...no problem-O! Then Brett wants a snack so he goes to the fridage points and says "Pie" you want an oatmeal pie...no problem-O! Whoohoo progress is AWESOME!!
28 Feb - Day two with the boys' and training. They definetely like wearing big boy underwear. Still getting familiar with the potty and what to do. The boys' enjoyed their water gun rewards. At one point Gabriel had them both and looked like Wild Bill Hickock shooting water everywhere with both hands. We went for a nice long walk after their naps today and the boys' love pretending to open the mailbox with the keys for me. So much that I have to carry an extra set of keys so each has their own. Kind of tired...Rob had to work an overnight shift...so I'm sorry this is short but I gotta get to bed. These guys wear me out as it is I don't need to stay up late and suffer during the day! Oh and the boys' are doing great working on drinking from cups, we're doing it alot more often and having very few accidents.
27 Feb - Day One of the "Autumn Method" of poty training twin boys'. Mom has done some research, talked to parents' and set up a game plan. This is a slow and stress-free approach to potty training. Familiarity with the potty and the body functions is the goal. Sooner or later it will all fall into place. Sooo the morning began with brand new potty seats and brand new big boy underwear. The boys' were both very interested in opening the box and helping assemble the potties. Then we took each teddy bear and put some big boy underwear on bear. Then bear practiced going potty a few times. Gabe loves to sit on the potty, he takes off his underwear and just sits there wiping. He's fascinated with wiping himself. Brett has sat on it a few times this morning already also. So far they've had a few rewards...the biggest being a pair of toddler fip flops. Gabriel loves wearing my flip flops because he can slide his fit in easy...so now he has some of his very own and he's wearing them around the house with nothing but his underwear on...that is if he'll keep his underwear on, because he'd much rather be naked!
Okay so a couple of hours have passed. Gabe has returned several times to the potty and is practicing wiping, reading and now he is playing his latest reward...a plastic recorder instrument. Brett got one too because he saw Gabe's and comprehended "sit on the potty if you want one too"...so he backed right up and sat for a few seconds. After while I'll load some of these darling pics! They are going to come in really handy for Mom and Dad one day!! LOL We're just having a big play day getting familiar with the potty. It's nearing lunchtime and we'll call it a training session. Before we put our diapers back on and get dressed we have to help teddy go potty once more and then elmo and monkey join in needing some big boy underwear so the boys' help get them dressed and ready for tomorrow's session. We put the potties and all the training stuff back in the closet and we'll get it all out again tomorrow! All in all I'd say it was a success. Each boy for different reasons. Gabriel was completely at ease on the potty and has a real handle on how to wipe. Brett stayed dry and clean the entire session!!!! So today I'll call Gabe "interest" and Brett "control". Yeah boys!!!!! Now it's a light lunch and LOTS of trampoline bouncing!!! 25 Feb - So this morning Brett used his toy credit card and somehow unlatched a childproof cabinet door with computer paper, stationary, etc. He didn't mess with anything he was just looking in it when I noticed it was wide open. He likes to slide the cards into different cracks (he's seen me slide through card readers) sooo I was truly impressed with his ingenuity. Gabe is still the little helper. He'll look for trash to say "Tash" and take it and throw it away. He's a big boy who likes to put his dirty diaper in the diaper genie by himself. This afternoon our friends Thad, Raquel (Rocky) and CJ came over for a nice visit. Everybody had lots of fun and laughs with the trampoline!! THe boys loved playing with CJ and all of the special attention from Auntie Rocky and Uncle Thad!! So much that Brett threw a bit of a fit when they left. But Daddy took them back outside to the trampoline and they were fine within a few.
24 Feb - The weather is a bit mixed up today...rain then sun and then more rain. So when the sun pops out Gabe wants to "Bounce". Needless to say we've gotten a bit muddy but Brett seems to relish it, Gabe on the other hand doesn't particularly enjoy dirty hands. For the past few days when they go in for their nap I've been rubbing their legs and feet with massage oil and they love it so much that now when they lay down on their bed they both hold their legs and feet up in the air. Kind of like saying..."Hey Mom don't forget the rubdown!" It really relaxes them but it also relaxes me too! A true win-win.
Daddy had to go in to work today...BUMMER! But we're hanging out having fun. Today's activities are coloring and puzzles. Of course they have PLENTY of free playtime! I've been cleaning out my jewelry collection and found some stuff they could play with--safe necklaces and bracelets. Man Gabriel can't get enough "bling". At one point he add every piece I'd given them on!! To funny. Yesterday I got the boys' their own play wallets...complete with play credit cards and play money, I also had some old lira from Italy and added that to their wallet. Then I put photos in it and their all set. Brett loves the money...calls it "momo" and last check he was walking around with a $20! Hopefully this will divert their interest in my wallet.
Well their napping now and I'm gonna rest my eyes for minute... ;-) 23 Feb - Some cute stories this morning. First Gabriel said "Ganma" and repeated it a few more times when he saw pictures of them on the computer!! Whohoooo...I slept in a bit this morning and Dad got up with the boys', so I awoke to Gabe coming to the bed saying "Mama, mama" and Brett followed right behind bringing me breakfast in bed, he was sharing his Apple Jacks! Then later in the morning after they had told me "Bounce, bounce!" we did some trampoline time and I moved some of their climbing toys around. Well when they got down from the trampoline I sat down on the patio and looked to see one of their climbing toys moving across the yard!!! Upon closer inspection I noticed Gabe was in it and pushing with his feet and scooting it around!!! SOOOOO FUNNY!!!! Both have new favorite sayings...Gabe says "Oh No" and Brett says "Man and Oh Man" It is positively adorable!! As for clutsy move of the day thus far, well that goes to Gabe. He was outside and got excited and was doing his skippy dance when he stepped on a tennis ball and whack...right on his cushy butt he went. He was fine and so we both started laughing and he started back up with the skippy dance. Were off to run some errands now, gotta get these guys out about to share their antics with total strangers!! They are a H-O-O-T! 18 Feb - Granma Dwight arrived safely last night. So now the boys' have a great audience to perform for all day. They've showed them their trampoline skills. And the Grandma's were very impressed with their abundant energy!! Tonight the Grandma's are watching the boys' so Mom and Dad can go to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert at the Rodeo. 21 Feb - Both Granma's left this morning before the boys' woke up and they knew something was amiss when they did wake up and look about to see them gone. So we have two little boys' who miss their Granma's and it is a crappy weather day outside. Soooo Mom will have to get creative with activities to keep their minds and hearts occupied! What a wonderful visit it was. We all enjoyed having them both here at the same time. The Granma's were like a couple of buddies in high school, staying up late and chatting into the wee hours. Rob and I thought we might have to separate them. And what wonderful help for Mom. All of those extra hands really made it easy for a few days. Thank you both, Granma Dwight and Granma Lombardi for the awesome *wicked* visit!!! Tonight the boys didn't go down as well as they normally do for bed. I'm sure they missed burning off more energy with the large audience. Mom finally had to use her "I'm not joking voice" and they hopped into bed. Brett fussed for a bit but I heard Gabriel singing to him. Sure enough when I went in to check on them Gabe had climbed into brothers' bed and sang them both to sleep. How absolutely precious!
17 Feb - Snowma is having a blast with the boys' and they love playing and performing for and with her too! Mom updated our website...hope ya'll like it. She says she accidentally erased the story she'd been collecting on her desktop and now she has to try to piece together from memory. That should be interesting! Grandma Dwight comes in tonight. Whohoo! Party time in the Lombardi House! Speaking of parties, Daddy's graduation is Sunday and he's having a Big 'Ol Party to celebrate the fact on Monday! Valentine's was cool for the boys', Courtney came over to watch them so Daddy could take Mom out to dinner. He even serenaded her at the restaraunt and sang/played guitar for her. She cried is the scoop we got. Daddy also surprised Mom with "Merry Maids" came to the house and did a deep clean. Mom said she can't remember having that much free time in the day! The boys' vocabulary is ever-expanding. Gabriel can now say "Brett"...and Brett says "Zipper" and they both chatter all of the time. Gabe likes to take his daily "Vimanin (vitamin)" and it appears he does most of the talking in/for the pair. They have such cute stories I hope to remember and jot down more often. 16 Feb - Snowma is HERE!! The boys have already let the big play begin. She's getting hugs and kisses and the boys love showing off for her!
6 Feb -- WHOHOOOO!!!! Guess What we got?!?!? A TRAMPOLINE!!! We love it....we got it this weekend and it is soooo AWESOME! Mom and Dad put it together while we were napping so when we woke up "WOW"!!! Then we added our ball pit balls to it and we can have even MORE fun! This will really help us exercise and burn off those toddler boy energy spurts! HAPPY "35th" ANNIVERSARY to Great aunt Pam and Great Uncle David! That sure is a lot of years...oops...sorry Mom that's how old (young) YOU ARE! heehee We are both napping now so Mom will relax with a heating pad...her aching back...the joys of getting older? No thank you we'll stay young!!!
3 Feb - HAPPY BIRTHDAY YESTERDAY TO PAPAW DWIGHT! We won't say how old he is...we can't count that high yet anyway!!! Mom's got some more funny stories since her last update. She's even added some new pictures but she didn't put the funny captions on them yet, be patient with her...we sure are! Well MOST of the time. So on with the report -- Gabriel found one of his Dad's soccer medals and he loves wearing it all around. Then Brett became interested too. Uh-oh Mom thinks where is my old swim/dive medals? What nightmare to find those? Soooo she had a "light bulb" moment and took one of Daddy's Air Force medals and put it on a ribbon and VOILA...both boys are superstars!! Only thing is Brett soon lost interest and now Gabriel likes to wear both. Future Olympian??? We've got a funny story to tell on Mom. She is the QUEEN of velcro! That lady puts velcro on everything...she safety proofs with it, she decorates with it, she says it would be tough but if she was on "Survivor" she'd take either duct tape or velcro! HAHAHA We didn't get the joke but we know she is funny! Last funny for today. We went to the store to get our "Potty Training Gear"...potty seats, step stools, kid's wipes and soap, training pants, big boy underwear, rewards (cleverly hidden from sight), you name it! Only thing was in Mom's excitement to get the training underway she thought "swim buddy diapers might be like training pants" so off we went. Literally, a little pee goes along way in a swim diaper! So Mom's not gonna let us be bashful. We head to the children's area...pick out some new shorts and training pants and strip down right in the aisle! Mom felt sooo bad because we were both soaked (we spilled our Sprite on us to boot!) So new undies, new shorts and an ICEE cause we were such GOOD boys and all was well again. Well the potty training is a slow process, we know that. We spend some time on the potty all day. We like being able to get into our bathroom though, there is alot of fun (HAVOC) to be had!!!
