29 Jan - Gabriel occasionally will take a nap in the recliner ( he calls it "the couch") but Brett...he's DONE with naps. But come bedtime that child has worn himself out. Last night he fell asleep 15 minutes before bedtime.

Still a bit cool here but the sun came back out today so the boys are playing in the backyard...more like a treasure hunt. We have an ALL POINTS BULLETIN out for Brett's missing Gordon and Percy. He knows all of his Thomas trains and those two are unaccounted for since yesterday. Mom and Dad are betting he buried them in the sand in the backyard and after the rain on Saturday he can't find them. Maybe if he gets Sophie involved she'll dig them up for him. Though she has gotten better about not digging so much in the yard.

Oh and on a not so happy note, Gabriel has been bitten by the constipation bug and he's just not himself. He is just a slowed down version of himself, poor kiddo...hopefully everything will clear up soon.

He still has fun though, yesterday Mom was attempting a self-pedicure (not so easy now that her belly has popped out!!) anyway, Gabe took interest and wanted one done too. So he got the works and loved it! He even insisted on some toenail polish, much to Daddy's chagrin. Then when Mom went to finish up her own feet Gabe insisted on paiting her toes!! The good news is he didn't spill any paint...the bad news well that was the funny part. He painted all of Mommy's toes...toenails PLUS the toes! So funny. Mom waited til the boys' left with Dad for the park before she removed the artwork from her feet!

Week SEVENTEEN
Fetal Development:
Your baby measures about 4.4 to 4.8 inches from crown to rump and has doubled in weight in the last two weeks to about 3.5 ounces. Fat begins to form, helping your baby's heat production and metabolism. The lungs are beginning to exhale amniotic fluid, and the circulatory and urinary systems are working. Hair on head, eyebrows and eyelashes is filling in.
Maternal Changes:
You're showing more now, with an obvious swelling in your lower abdomen. A five- to 10-pound weight gain is typical by now. You also may be noticing an increase in appetite.

25 Jan - Still a bit cool outside but we've got a couple of days of sunshine and we are making BIG use of it! Outdoor play as much as possible!!

23 Jan - Shock has worn off around here, the Patriots' season has ended. What a gridiron battle that was on Sunday.

Chalk this story up to "huh?". Yesterday was another gloomy, very rainy day. So the boys' spent most of it indoors (not a crowd favorite). We colored pictures, watched movies (with popcorn of course), built train tracks and played with playdoh... we even took a really long bath in Mom's big bathtub (as close to a pool as we could get!) Finally, Mom had to get out of the house -- so we took a car ride to the store for a quick ICEE treat. On the way home Brett fell asleep. Dad got home from work around 5 p.m. and Brett was still sleeping. Gabriel followed suit within the hour. So by 6:30 Brett is passed out on the couch and Gabe is snoozing in the recliner. Mom looks at Dad, tells him the boys' had baths earlier in the day and so off to bed they are taken. Now here's the strange part...they slept through the night. For the past week or so they have woken up a few times in the night. Mom and Dad are at a loss, just when they think they have it figured out...the boys' change their game plan.

Week SIXTEEN
Fetal Development:
Your baby's nails are well formed and some babies are even in need of having their nails trimmed at birth. Your baby is emptying his or her bladder every 40-45 minutes. The limb movements are becoming more coordinated and vigorous. The head is erect and the legs are developed. Both the gender and muscle movements are easily detectable with ultrasound. Your baby is approximately 4 inches long and weighs about 80-85 grams (3 ounces).
Maternal Changes:
You may begin to feel baby's movements as his bones begin to harden. These first feelings have been said to feel more like "butterflies" then actual fetal movement ? thus being called 'fluttering.' Another common name for these movements is "quickening". However, if you have a thick uterus, are overweight, or this is your first pregnancy, you may not feel these first movements yet. Don't worry. As your baby moves his muscles more frequently and vigorously, and he still has lots of room to move, you will be more aware of your baby?s presence very soon.
Your heart continues to increase the blood volume output to supply the baby with oxygen. Your enlarged heart is pumping about 20 percent more blood than it did before you were pregnant. This volume will actually continue to increase throughout your pregnancy and will result in an increased heart output of 30-50 percent by the time of delivery. However, this increase in blood volume may lead to a stuffy nose or even nose bleeds on occasion. As your blood volume increases it affects your estrogen level that leads to swelling of the nasal membranes, resulting in the stuffy nose or nosebleeds.

19 Jan - A gloomy, cold overcast day here so we did some indoor "activities" we helped Mom clean (really clean) the playroom. Just as well seeing as how first thing this morning we destroyed it before 9 a.m.!!

So we worked hard, played hard and now we're watching a flick and having some chicken noodles...YUMMY.

Tonight's pizza night (the weekly tradition on Friday night) and we sure know it...this morning we asked Mom for pizza, to which she explained we'd have to wait for Daddy.

Brett found (on his own) that the master bath toilet is lower and thus he can go whenever without standing on a step stool. So on more than one occasion Mom has turned the corner to find him either A) lifting the lid about to potty or B) totally finished and flushing! Way to go Brett!

Cute Gabriel story, I guess having always seen his Daddy take off his hat to eat has rubbed off (a good thing) so now whenever he has a snack or a meal, if the hat was on it comes off until he's done. Oh and both boys LOVE to clear up their plates/bowls after they eat. They carry them to the sink. Even putting trash away is getting a pretty routine thing for the both of them.

17 Jan - HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANMA JESSE -
Mom had a doctor's appointment today and so the boys' got to spend some time with Daddy at work. From the phone pics Daddy sent Mommy they had a BLAST! Playing in the warehouse, working at his desk and going for rides in the Polaris. After a couple of hours of working they fell asleep on the car ride home!!

Week FIFTEEN
Fetal Development:
Your nearly four-inch long gymnast is happily mobile inside your womb, and if you're really lucky, you?ll notice a point when your sneezing, coughing or laughing results in a little kick here or a poke there-- although many women don't feel anything until the 17th week or later. Although the poking and kicking isn't very charming during sleeping hours, it?s a good sign as it means your baby is actually reacting to outside events! (Yay! You?ve got yourself one active healthy baby!) Their little elbows and knees are bending more freely this week and their little legs are finally growing longer than their arms and getting them all pumped up for prenatal Richard Simmons. Many of their major organ systems are increasing in capacity?particularly that amazing tiny heart and complex circulation system, which is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood per day, and will increase to a very impressive 200 quarts per day by the end of the pregnancy. As far as hair goes, we?ve got some new scalp patterns beginning to develop on the head, although actual head hair is not yet present.
Maternal Changes:
Even though the placenta is regulating your babe?s hormones, you are still producing additional estrogen, which often causes swelling of the mucosa membranes, and leaving you with a stuffy nose?potentially throughout the duration of the pregnancy. These are just a few of the charming physical experiences you can chalk up to the pregnancy fairy!

15 Jan - Another beautiful day, a little less sunshine, we had a great time. Play, breakfast, play, lunch, play, ride to the beach, play and the boys napped when we got home (actually they both fell asleep in the car!) Their up from those precious naps and we're out to drive their new cars around the block a time or two!

We got some great beach photos today.

14 Jan - What a BEAUTIFUL weekend!! Super sunny and in the mid-70s. We almost thought spring had sprung, but whoa the weather man. It's supposed to drop off about 15-20 degrees tonight. The whole family sure enjoyed the outdoors this weekend. While Mom and Dad completed some "around the house" projects Brett and Gabriel played outside. A-L-O-T...to the point where they were falling asleep in the most unusual places. Check the pics for a visual of Gabriel. Brett fell asleep in front of the t.v. with a favorite movie playing!! (that tanslates into one VERY tired Brett)

While Gabriel was sleeping, Brett was awake and Mom had to run to the store. So Dad (watching the PATS) and a sleeping Gabe stayed home. Brett kept asking where Gabe was and Dad reported that Gabriel did the same upon wakening. When Mom and Brett got home the first hugs were between Gabe and Brett, a precious moment.

11 Jan - The sun has been shining more in the past few days (though it's still a bit breezy) the boys' have been enjoying alot of fun outdoors. As you can see from the newest pics we've done the beach and had a blast.
The boys' continue to talk up a storm. It's amazing some of the things they come up with. Potty training is still going well..patience in ALL things! Especially since for the past three days the boys' have not taken naps. It appears as though the time has come...Mom sure misses getting a nap but they just don't sleep (no matter how jam-packed she makes their days!!) Oh well, these boys' aren't babies anymore that's for sure!

WEEK FOURTEEN
Fetal Development:
Our baby is a whopping 3 1/2 inches long and is 1 to 2 ounces. S/he begins to practice inhaling and exhaling movements. The eyes and ears continue to move and develop, the neck is still getting longer, and the baby's chin no longer rests on his/her chest. The hands are becoming functional, and the baby is beginning to learn to move/use them (probably more reflex than anything). At this point, our little one is receiving all of his/her nourishment from the placenta.
Maternal Changes:
You will most likely experience some if not all of these symptoms to varying degrees: dizziness, headache and back pain. Just like morning sickness during the first trimester, your chances of experiencing a given set of symptoms increases if you?ve already had them in a previous pregnancy. Unfortunately, if you?re starting to experience back pain, it will most likely increase as you gain more weight towards the end of the trimester. Although unavoidable during your waking hours, you don?t have to suffer so much during the night?there are some wonderful products out there such as the full body pregnancy pillow, which will help you make it through the night without too much undue suffering. Water retention is another fairly classic albeit annoying pregnancy symptom which typically leads to swollen fingers, toes, ankles and/or legs. These are all perfectly normal (and fairly bearable) symptoms that should not be a source of unnecessary stress. Despite these annoyances, the second trimester is typically experienced as the most exciting yet enjoyable of the three? the morning sickness is gone, you definitely feel and look pregnant, but you?re not yet reaching the overstuffed lumbering mammoth state. Go team go!

4 Jan - The boys' went to the park today and had a good time making new "girl" friends. The girls'? Well Mom doesn't think they were too impressed that the boys' were chasing them doing the "claw"! But man it was funny!
Later Gabriel took Brett for a ride around the neighborhood in the "new" car. So funny, Gabe driving (very well!) and Brett in the passenger seat reading a new book (Toy Story 2). Towards the end of the ride Mom had to remind Gabriel to keep his "eyes on the road"...he was getting bored and resting his forhead on the dash...maybe he was trying out for the music group "Asleep at the Wheel!" LOL

The boys' finally made it to "Bounce U" a really cool indoor inflate-a-world. They LOVED it. So did Dad, he even tried teaching the boys' some air hockey. Today we all went to the beach and a wonderful time. Nice walk, plenty of play and we collected seashells. Gabriel is getting much better at picking out whole shells, before he'd just grab handfuls and throw them into the bucket.

Week THIRTEEN
Fetal Development:
As our baby continues to develop, the vocal cords begin to form. The face is looking more and more human each day as the eyes begin to move closer together instead of being on the sides of the head and the ears move to a normal position. It would be possible now to determine the baby's sex by looking at the genitals if we could only get close enough. (We usually can't "guess" via ultrasound until around the 16th week.) The intestines move farther into the baby's body; the liver begins to secrete bile and the pancreas begins to produce insulin. A very busy week indeed!
Maternal Changes:
Welcome to the second trimester! This is the most comfortable and enjoyable stage of pregnancy. Most of the difficult early symptoms are over (or soon will be), and your tummy isn't getting in the way yet. If you're still feeling tired, listen to your body and REST. It's working hard right now! As your uterus stretches, you may feel some abdominal achiness. The ligaments that hold up your uterus stretch to accommodate your growing uterus. This is called "round ligament pain".

WEEK TWELVE

Maternal Changes:

By this point, nearly all of the organs and structures of the fetus are formed. They will continue to grow and develop until delivery. Fingers and toes have separated and hair and nails begin to grow. The genitals begin to take on their gender characteristics. Amniotic fluid begins to accumulate as the baby's kidneys begin to produce and excrete urine. The muscles in the intestinal walls begin to practice peristalsis - contractions within the intestines that digest food.

Maternal Changes:
Around this week, your uterus will shift up and forward as it grows. The good news is it won't be pressing on your bladder so much and those bathroom visits will get less frequent. Enjoy this while you can because by the third trimester, the uterus will grow large enough to sit on your bladder once again.

Morning sickness is usually getting better by this time, and you may be less tired. Headaches and light-headedness are common now thanks to the increased blood volume but be sure to discuss these symptoms with your care provider.

WEEK 11-

Nearly all structures and organs are formed and beginning to function.
Fingers and toes have separated - Take a glimpse at how incredibly precious your child's tiny feet are at this point. Hair and nails begin to grow.

The genitals begin to take on the proper gender characteristics - It will be just a few more weeks before your ultrasound can show if you are having a boy or a girl! Have you been dreaming of pink or blue?
Amniotic fluid begins to accumulate as the kidneys begin to function - This fluid, consisting primarily of water, helps provide a cushion for your baby while she's nestled within your womb.
The muscles in the intestinal walls begin to practice contractions that digest food.

Your baby is about 1.61 inches (4.1 cm) long and weighs 0.25 ounce (7gm).

15 Dec - Yesterday the boys' went to visit Daddy at work. Man did they have fun! Daddy took them for rides on the big Gator (huge 4-wheel thingie) and the Bobcat. Gabriel even helped load some pallets in the warehouse. They talked about how much fun it was the whole way home. We just got their shoes on so theycould go out back and play. Here's a commentary: Gabriel: "Okay fine put on my shoes, I gotta go find Granma and Papaw" Mom: "They're coming here for Christmas" Gabriel: "I'll go find Granma and Papaw for Christmas."
All the while Brett is burying his Woody doll in the sand. He really likes sand these days. It gets everywhere...but Mom's mantra is..."boys will be boys" and "don't sweat the small stuff!"

13 Dec - Today was a gorgeous Florida day so we went playin' in the sunshine at the Park! we took a picnic and had a blast. We wore ourselves out!! mom included. So it's naptime for now.

9 Dec - Granma June has been having a blast with the boys'...I KNOW they love having her here too! She's been playing everything with them...play-doh...cards...coloring...building blocks...you name it. They both are talking up a storm to her. You hear alot of "Granma where are you?!" They don't let her out of their sight for long!!
