Last weekend Matt spent an evening with Alaina, his girlfriend (Alaina's dad gets mad when I call her that!! Ha ha). I was watching both of them for the night. I posted some pictures of their night together. Next weekend we are going camping with some friends and with Alaina, stay tuned for pictures!!

I haven't updated in awhile, we have been very busy.  Matty has been very busy with all kinds of new experiences. On July 4th weekend we went to Kansas and spent some time with Steve's family. Matt did really well on the drive down there and struggled a little with the trip back, but all and all he did wonderfully considering he had to be in the car for 8 hours. His most enjoyable experience was riding in the Combs' family boat. After throwing some little tantrums about his life vest he finally got used to it and enjoyed the rough waters. At one point everytime we went over a wave and the boat would lift he would scream and giggle. It was just about the cutest thing I have ever seen. He absolutely loves water, and Steve loved bringing him in to the water. It was a wonderful trip and a very memorable first Independence Day for Matty!!

On Sunday we took Matt on his first fishing trip. After Steve had been fishing a lot of the morning with Peter, Matt and I joined Steve to try our hand at fishing. Steve and Peter had not caught anything all morning, so we didn't except to catch anything.

After Steve showed Matt and I how to fish, I decided to try it myself. Soon after I put the hook in the water I felt something on the end and discovered I had caught a fish. I freaked out a bit... well actually I started screaming, which I am sure Matt found very entertaining. It turned out to be a small Blue Gill, so we put it back in the lake. After my first catch Steve felt he had to show his family who the "real man" was in the family and he took the pole back and tried again to catch something. After many failed attempts, I asked to try again and soon after something pulled on the pole and I realized I had caught another fish!! This time it turned out to be a small trout. So, we decided to keep it and we grilled the little bit of meat and ate it for dinner. If you check the pictures section you will find some pictures of our fishing adventure and see Matt's first experience coming eye to eye with a fish.

Steve's first offical Father's Day! We spent the day doing little things; going to the park (so Steve could watch some remote controlled airplanes fly), hanging around the house, and going to Baskin Robbins. For Steve's first Father's Day he enjoyed a large banana split, although I think Matty enjoyed it as much as Steve did. Steve kept sneaking little tastes of his banana split in to Matt's mouth. At first Matt made a very horrible face at the first taste of ice cream, then as Steve kept giving him more tastes he started opening his mouth whenever the spoon came near him and grinning when he got a taste of the ice cream. I hate to think what kind of mischief they will get into together next Father's Day!!

We can now officially call Matty a crawler. He can crawl to anywhere he wants to now. However he is not that in to it, he only does it if he absolutely feels it is necessary. He is quite obsessed with pulling up and standing using anything and everything he can pull up on. All he wants to do is stand. His favorite thing is when Steve or I take him by the hands and walk with him. It seems that very soon our little baby boy will be walking around!!

Yesterday night Matty was saying one word over and over again: "Da Da". Unfortunetly for Steve's ego, I am pretty sure he is not saying it deliberately. He just says many different sounds and Da Da is one of them. Unfortunately for me, Ma Ma is not one of the sounds he makes. We both look forward to the day when Matt actually looks at me and says "Ma Ma" or looks at Steve and says "Da Da"; ours hearts will surely melt.

This morning when I went to see Matty in his crib I went in and found him sitting up. He had sat up all on his own. This is the first time he has done this (that I have ever noticed at least) He is also getting in to the crawling position and moving his body back and forth, it appears he is very close to crawling. However, he seems a lot more interested in trying to walk. He can easily walk, one foot in front of the other with assistance and can usually pull himself up on something and stay standing. His day care thinks he will be one of those babies that doesn't really crawl, he will just walk. So we will see, I will keep you updated. Once Matt is on the move things will definetly change in the Combs' household!!

May 23, 2008 This week was Matty's 8 month birthday! I cannot believe he is already 8 months!! At 8 months he seems to be favoring his daddy most of the time. When he sees Steve he smiles a huge smile, laughs, and then reaches out to him. I think he finds his mom kind of boring, I don't play as rough with him as his dad. Steve throws him in the air, swings him around by his arms and legs, tosses him upside down, etc. It is a little scary to watch sometimes, but Steve is very careful and Matty is giggling the entire time. He absolutely loves to play with his dad.

Last night was Matthew's first Colorado Rockies game. (There are pictures on the pictures page) He did so good. He stayed awake and happy the entire game, he was up until 10pm. I think he loved it, we might have a baseball player, rather than a football player, we will have to see!

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has been praying for Matty over the last week or so. Steve, myself and Matty felt your prayers and love. We feel so blessed!

May 15, 2008

Just wanted to update everyone on Matty's health. This boy has caused us more stress, headaches, and for me tears, in the last 2 weeks than I ever thought possible. Matt's infected eye (I have posted a picture on the picture page) is pretty much all better. He no longer looks like he was in a bar fight, thank God!! (You should have seen some of the looks I would get when I would go out in public with his eye swollen and red.) He just finished his antibiotics and we did have a minor set back with a rash appearing yesterday all over his body! So, I took him to the pediatrician yesterday after his day care mom called me a little panicked by his rash. The pediatrician wasn't concerned and said it was some sort of reaction to coming off the strong antibiotics and a yeast infection (that's right boys can get yeast infections). So, hopefully once we get through this we will be out of the woods and Matty will never have health issues ever again... right?
