What We've Been Doing
 |

March 2, 10
My Yegappan appointment went well today. I haven't gained as much weight as I would have liked (though I'm still bigger than I was when I was pregnant with Nick), but all of my bloodwork came back as good, my ultrasound information from last month looked good, and baby's fetal heartbeat was still very strong. I have another appointment in the Falls in 4 weeks (oh, what a shock... it's always every 4 weeks until near the end) and my second ultrasound should be around the beginning of April when I should find out the gender and get more "baby" pics.
My pregnancy headaches are still pretty bad, but I deal with them one day at a time as they're not all day every day. Nick is still going strong which wears me out pretty good by the end of the day, and I personally can't wait for the warmer weather so that Nick can get out of the house and run free in the outdoors like he so badly wants to do now!

So I know what you’re all thinking. Rest assured, you’re not going crazy.
A lot has changed on the McCooey website and it’s all been happening right under your noses. If you would like to catch up on what you’ve all been missing, the “surprising mystery” stories started back on Dec 4, 09 and have sporadically been hidden on here throughout the regular stories for quite some time. As for pictures, there’s only a few that are new, and they’re all highlighted on the front page for your convenience.
I figured that the best day to “come out” would be on Family Day (it seemed the most fitting).
To answer a few questions:
YES, I am pregnant.
NO, I do not know the gender yet.
I am due technically on August 15 (though keep in mind that Nick was a month “early” because the due dates was off, he was really only a week and a half early. Something with my body and due dates and ultrasounds. Whatever, I digress…)
YES, a few people that I trusted like my mother knew, and I know that this secret has been killing her for the past few months but she has yet to tell a soul and for that, I love my mom.
YES, we are finding out the gender and NO I am not keeping it a secret on this site like I did last time. It was not my choice to keep it a secret last time; it was done as a courtesy to others who didn’t want to know. This time, I am going to enjoy every moment of my pregnancy and if you don’t want to know the gender, then sorry about your luck. That is one of my biggest regrets from my last pregnancy, trying to keep the gender a secret and not being able to fully enjoy everything that being pregnant entailed.
So I think that’s it. If you need to know anything else or if I didn’t answer your question, let me know.

This year was a very special Valentine's Day for me.
On Saturday, my parents took Sean and I to Montana's for dinner (because my dad always does something special for me for V-Day) where I had an amazing dinner (if it weren't so expensive and so far away, we'd go more often!!)
Then on Sunday (the actual Valentine's Day) I had to work, but Nick (and Sean) brought me flowers to work. Nick walked in holding a basket of flowers for me! It was so cute!!
Tomorrow is Family Day and I know what that will entail... LOTS OF FUN WITH NICK!! We plan on going to Cheeky Monkey in the morning and visiting my parents in the afternoon, with a dinner at McDs with Ronald McDonald and the returning Olympic Torchbearer, Matthew Thompson. (He has to wear his Olympic outfit and take pics with people, but he gets paid to do it, so he's doing it willingly.)
Fun times ahead...

Sean, Nick and I do everything together - we even share the 24-hour stomach flu. Sean stayed home from work on Friday because he wasn't feeling well, so I took care of him and by 8pm, I was sicker than a dog. Nick didn't become sick until Saturday morning, which completely ruined my day of family fun (and instead it was a day of family sleeping).
We're all better now and hopefully we will stay healthy until the summer comes!!
Today, Nick and I are home together (my one day a week with Nick) so we are filling out all of his Valentines for daycare. His party is on Friday and he has to give all of his little girlfriends their special cards with their special presents (candy hearts). My little man is such a player!
Comments ah, now the comment "until the summer comes" makes sense....sneaky. - Aunt Sharon

Sean and I went for my first ultrasound today in Niagara Falls. It went very well, except for the fact that "little one" feels comfortable pressing on my bladder. The ultrasound techs had to tilt the bed to get the foot out of my bladder so they could get a good picture for Sean and I to take home. According to Sean, it's because of "hospital cutbacks" that I only have one picture from this ultrasound, yet I received at least 3 each time Nick had his "picture" taken. This little one is less active than Nick was, so it was much easier to get the pictures that they wanted to (all Nick wanted to do was flips during his ultrasound). My next doctor's appointment is March 2 with blood work on March 4, then another ultrasound sometime between 20-30 weeks, then more doctor's visits then a BABY!

The smell of bananas is a good way to make me run for the bathroom in a hurry, as I learned today. Nick had eaten a banana for breakfast, and when he gave me a kiss, I nearly lost my breakfast. I knew that I had an aversion to the taste of bananas already (that realization came a few weeks ago for me) but the sheer smell of them… this little bun in the oven is NOT a fan of the bananas! I don’t remember having an aversion to any foods with Nick, so maybe we have a picky eater on our hands already??

So the pregnancy headaches have started. I stand by the fact that there’s a girl in the oven, because I was NEVER this sick with Nick! I’ve been falling asleep on the couch at 7pm almost every night that I’m off because sleep is better than having a splitting headache and nothing to take for it. The Internet says it’s caused by stress and the elements of everyday life and that they should go away on their own in a few weeks. Believe me, I cannot wait!

It's been a very busy, hectic month so far! Nick has been keeping very active by going sledding with Sean and I, and we've even visited Cheeky Monkey a few times this month already.
I know what you're all thinking now... where's the sledding pictures?
Well, the simple answer to that, is even though I married a computer geek, sometimes even computers can outsmart Sean. Our hard drive died a week ago and I lost those pictures. Luckily, Sean backs up the computer every 6 months, so we have everything saved until August, but sadly we lost some pictures from then on. I say a few, because I always keep a backup of Nick's pictures on my desktop saved in a backup file as well (there's more than one tekkie in this household!) so out of 100 pictures, I might be missing 10 or so. Which is pretty good considering, so I'm not too upset about that.
We now have a new hard drive, so once it's installed and the weather becomes more sledding-friendly, Sean and I will take Nick out for some more sledding and I will upload those pictures of his sledding adventures.

So I still haven’t fully kicked the nausea of morning sickness. Sunday was a horrible day for me. We had to wake up early to go to breakfast at M&Js because I had something to give to Oma, which meant jumping out of bed and getting sick a few times, then promising Sean that I was going to be well enough to make it through my “performance” at M&Js, then off to my grandparents house to celebrate an early birthday with them (this was my only weekend off this month, so we had to celebrate my birthday a bit early). I’ve still been feeling horrible at work, though that may have more to do with the smell of McDs food to a preggie and being on my feet for 8 hours straight and less to do with anything else.

My ultrasound appointment is scheduled! I have to go in for my routine monthly check-up to Dr. Yegappan on February 2, and then a week later I have my ultrasound! Hopefully Sean will be there this time as he missed the first ultrasound with Nick (they told me it was a Down syndrome test and I didn’t realize that meant ultrasound too, so I told Sean to go to work and my mom came with me instead.)
After these ultrasounds, I think I have one more ultrasound scheduled for March 4 (though I think it might be blood work and not an ultrasound, I’ll have to look that up) and more monthly checkups scheduled from now until July/August.

I guess I should be happy that I have a head start this time… when I was pregnant with Nick, I started off at 87lbs, and this time, I weighed in at 92. (Go me!)
So today was (obviously) my OBGYN appointment today. She says that everything’s looking good and then handed me an immense amount of paperwork that I have to keep track of that has all of the dates of my ultrasounds and blood tests on them. The problem isn’t keeping track of them; it’s remembering which ones are for what and what days I have to go to what.
My next appointment is Feb 2 where I should (hopefully) get to hear the heartbeat. Fingers crossed!

Day 3 of the New Year and I haven’t been sick in a few days. Now, don’t get me wrong, I still FEEL sick, I just haven’t GOTTEN sick… there’s a very important difference there.
Today I have to work at the main store from 11-7 and I’m a little worried about it, partially because I can’t sit down and rest if I have to, and partially because it’s so busy and stressful there. I try to avoid stress at all costs, but I can’t pull the “P” card yet. I’m trying to wait until February before I tell work. A few of the members of my family know, but I’ll wait until after my doctor’s appointment this month to let any other “important” figures know. I’d like to have the okay from the doctor before I get a lot of people’s hopes up that I’m carrying a bun in the oven. Plus, I think that around my birthday will be my ultrasound (if the time frame is similar to when I had Nick) and I think it would be funny to have a picture of an ultrasound as a birthday present. Imagine the faces of the people around me when I tell them what I got for my birthday!

I’m excited because this morning was the first time that I didn’t wake up at 3am to be sick!! It was the greatest feeling ever to be able to lie in bed until 7am for Nick to come in and yell “MOMMY!” for me to get my butt out of bed to go play with him. Today Nick and I are having a lazy day at home so that I can get my strength back to (close to) 100%, and then I’ll be able to work the rest of my shifts this week and be able to start the new year with a fresh new outlook on the upcoming year… even though I know it’ll be a great one…
Dec 26, 09
So the holidays are finally over… YIPPEE!!! I personally don’t mind the holidays, but I can’t stand all of the travel that it entails, especially with the way I’ve been feeling. I tried to make this year as easy on Nick (and myself) as possible by omitting some of the stops on our Christmas travel path and I think that for the most part, it was a success. Nick was still able to see most (if not all) of the family this year, but more at his pace and less at everyone else’s.

It's been a VERY long two days! I think that Sean, Nick and I have officially had enough of the Christmas spirit...
Christmas Eve was spent running to the grocery store to get necessities for the upcoming days in the morning, then after Nick's nap, we went to visit with Oma and Opa for Christmas. They celebrate their Christmas by opening presents after church on Christmas Eve, which basically means that they start opening around 9pm. That, I felt was a little too late to be taking Nick out (especially since Christmas Day was going to take its toll on him) so Nick and I opted to visit in the afternoon and send Sean as our representative in the evening. He came home around 11pm, so I was happy that I made the executive decision to keep Nick home to sleep! After Oma and Opa's afternoon visit, we went to my parents house for Christmas Day festivities (my mom had to work in the morning of Christmas Day, so we did Christmas early). Christmas at my parents house was a blast... Nick opened all of his presents from everyone (especially the crazy ones from his Aunt Tania and Uncle Mike~ roller skates and a Tonka truck that he rides in!!) and my parents were crazy with their shopping too... Nick received enough clothes to dress him for a year from my mom, and then my mom and dad gave him a portable DVD player for the car!! Now all we need are movies to watch! Just when we thought that all of the surprises for the night were over, a knock at the door... IT WAS SANTA AND MRS. CLAUS!!! They came in and sat with Nick for a while, asking him what he wanted for Christmas and they gave him presents and a candy cane! It was unbelievable the connections my dad has! Freaking SANTA!
Christmas Day was a busy one too. We started at 8am at my parents house for breakfast cooked by my dad (tradition, you know) with enough blueberry pancakes to feed an army, with bacon and sausage to go right along with it. Nick loved his pancakes, but he loved the syrup even more (he licked the plate when he was done). Then off to Sean's dad's house where Sean ate again (though I don't know how he did) while Nick and I played. Sr bought Nick a pull-along sled and a ball pit to put the multitude of balls that my mom and dad bought Nick in the summer into. Then we were off to Sean's mom's house for a visit. We didn't stay long because it was near noon and Nick was starting to get tired. After a quick visit, it was back home where Nick (and Sean and I) went for a little well-deserved nap.
Up at 3pm from our naps, and then we were off to my grandparents house for dinner. Nick opened more presents from his great-grandparents and from his second cousins, we ate dinner, then off to Sean's dad's side of the family Christmas at Diane and Tom's. More presents for Nick to open, but by this time, it was 7:30pm and Nick was at the end of his rope. We did a quick unwrap of his presents, said a quick thank you to everyone, and went home for a quick bath and then off to bed where Nick slept from 8:30pm until 9:30am this morning!! He needed all the rest he could get, he had a busy two days!
This afternoon, Sean and I went through Nick's old and new toys and did the clean-up while Nick was sleeping so that he wouldn't notice that his old stuff was "missing" because he would have all of the new stuff to play with.
A thank you to everyone and anyone who gave Nick a present. He really is a spoiled... I mean blessed... child. I know that even if he didn't personally thank you, that he appreciated it all nonetheless.

THE OLYMPIC TORCH WAS CARRIED BY A THOMPSON!!!
Today Matt ran the Olympic torch in Fort Erie making the entire family very proud. He won the honour through a contest with McDonald's and ICoke.ca (and a little nagging from his sister and father to get his butt in gear!)
Matt was a very good sport about it - he posed for pictures with every little kid (and big kid) in the area who wanted to be close to the Olympic torch, he even let someone touch the torch because that's what they wanted to do! Nick thought it was great, because he was given flags to wave, and they played music for him to dance to, and Uncle Matt was standing beside him for most of the time!
Pictures are slowly coming in and as they do, I'll post them on here so that everyone who couldn't make it to the special day can still see how proud we Thompson's (and now McCooey's) were!!
Comments What an honour. Congrats to Matt - Eva

The morning sickness isn’t as much fun as it was before with Nick. At least with Nick, I only had morning sickness a few times and it was easily controlled – this time around, I feel sick sporadically all through the day… it’s HORRIBLE!! Hopefully it doesn’t last and I can feel better soon, because spending the holidays feeling like this will not be fun at all!
Dec 19, 09
Today Sean, Nick and I went to Mississauga for Uncle Gary and Aunt Sharon's annual Christmas get-together at their house.
I attempted to bake a cake, but for some reason, it decided that it didn't want to cooperate, and I had to scrap that idea 30 min before leaving and go to my old standby of pumpernickel bread with dip and veggies.
Nick didn't mind the trip up there but didn't appreciate being confined to the downstairs (all he wanted to do was go upstairs because that's where the Christmas music was coming from).
He also got very tired at around 8pm (which makes sense-bedtime for him) so we left the party relatively early and headed back home.

Today I made my appointment with Dr. Yegappan to go in for my first visit. It’s scheduled for January 5. My mother now FINALLY believes me that I’m pregnant (mainly because she was in the room when Dr. Yegappan’s office called). We’re hoping that no one will think that I’m pregnant over the holidays, though I highly doubt that anyone will even remotely think it. I mean, I don’t drink alcohol very often to begin with so when I turn that down it won’t be a surprise, and since I’m not obviously showing yet and all of my pre-pregnancy clothes fit nice and comfortably, I think I’m in the clear.

So the doctor confirmed today what we already knew… I’m pregnant, the lab tests don’t lie. I’m due approximately August 15 (Happy Anniversary Mike and Tania!)
Sean and I have already started the guessing game. I say it’s a girl and he says it’s a boy. I think I’ll deliver around July 22ish, with my latest date to deliver being Aug 10 while he’s waiting until after my first doctor’s appointment to guess the due dates.
