3/15/2010: We had a great time with our family for Emma's birthday. We managed to get a family photo taken for Mom and Dad Waling just before they arrived. Everyone was excited and surprised to see Uncle Tom and Aunt Mary. I wasn't because Joy and I invited them. Thank you to everyone for making the trip to our home. Lots of great memories, pictures and video(Thanks Teddy!) We will have some photos from the party up soon. Special thanks to Patrick and Anne Logue and Joe and Audrey Buono for remembering Emma. 2/11/2010: The first entry of the new year. We had Emma in for a photo shoot at JC Penney this past Monday. Joy and I had been talking to Emma about how much fun it would be and that she would be wearing a special birhday outfit. We were trying to get her thinking positively about the experience to have an easy photo session. It didn't work. Emma ran out of the studio twice and was not interested in sitting on the spot the photographer wanted. Finally, she calmed down with Joy and I sitting and posing with her. Much to my surprise we had more than a few good pictures to choose from. They will be posted here soon. Emma will be 2 years old in 9 days. Looking at pictures from last year, it's hard to believe the changes in her. Her hair is finally growing and getting long, she is speaking in partial sentences and has a mind of her own. She is learning new things all the time including how to try and win power struggles with mom and dad. Joy and I really couldn't be happier with Emma's disposition. She makes us laugh quite often. A real blessing to us. Emma still enjoys visits with Grandma and Grandpa Waling and going to see them bowl. We are looking forward to seeing most of our immediate family for Emma's 2nd birthday party here on February 20th. Thanks for checking in on Emma through this website. Peace, Proud Daddy. 12/20/09: MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND A VERY HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR!! I just wanted to get this out there before things get too crazy and I forget. I hope you all have enjoyed the website and all the updates/pictures this past year. You will notice that the 3 of us had to get our picture taken with Santa - Emma wanted nothing to do with Santa this year. We will give it a try again next year. Hope everyone is doing well. 12/03/09: Just wanted to let everyone know that Alexandria and Joe are expecting!!! They are due on June 11, 2010. Congratulations to them both :-) Wow - what a year it has been! Both Alexandria and Teddy got married this year and both are expecting their 1st child in 2010!! Looks like 2010 is going to be a very fun and exciting year too :-) Emma is doing fantastic! She continues to amaze us with all that she knows and all she can do. We got the house all decorated for Christmas and so far, Emma has been great with the tree. She knows that it is to look at and not touch :-) Can't believe she will be 2 in Feb. 2010! This year has just flown by!! I need to get some new pictures on the site - hope to do that soon. We wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! 12/02/2009: Hi everyone, Daddy here. It has been such a wonderful year. Hard to believe that Christmas will be here so soon and then here comes 2010!!! Joy and I hosted Thanksgiving dinner at our new home in Novi last week and it couldn't have been more fun for me. Great seeing the family. Thank you Joy for all your hard work. Everybody pitched in with food and drink and a swift clean up too. All in all a nice day of memories to look back on. Emma is enjoying riding her Beach Car and Pink Pony around the basement. She has been having fun playing an extra keyboard of mine too. She is getting acquainted with all my musical instruments and our old computer. It has been an exciting year full of family and friends. I miss playing in the band but am enjoying our family weekends more. Hopefully 2010 will have a wedding announcement :-) Thanks for checking in on our site. Love to all. 10/28/09: Just wanted to let everyone know that Erica and Teddy found out last Friday that they are having a little girl :-) We are all very excited for them, especially Emma! She can't wait to have a little niece to play with :-) Just wanted to share the news with everyone. Keep in touch! 10/21/09: It is October 21st, where does the time go? Emma is now 20 months old and going strong! She is so curious and so entertaining. She is now saying just about everything and likes to repeat what she hears :-) She is starting to sing a bit and it is so cute. The house is coming along nicely - we love it! It is so nice to have lots of room. John is plugging away at school and doing great. I believe he got a 99% on his first 2 math tests - way to go John! My married children are doing great and adjusting well to their married lives. Alex and Joe bought a home in Highland and moved in last month. They have been busy painting and updating as they can. We went out there last Saturday, it is a beautiful big home - lots of room for babies :-) Teddy and Erica are also doing great, pregnancy is going well and they will find out this Friday, the 23rd what the gender is. They will be moving into a new home in December and will begin preparing the nursery for the big arrival in March. Erica looks great and feels great. Hope everyone is doing well. 09/30/09: Well we made the big move over the weekend and are STILL moving stuff, or should I say John is still moving stuff from the old house to the new. We have way too much stuff!! Our plan is to go through all this stuff and get rid of everything we can. So much to do and so little time. Moving has been a pain but the new house is beautiful and lots and lots of room :-) Emma has adjusted well! Emma continues to amaze us and entertain us. She is talking so much these days and can be so much fun. She also has her moments - terrible two's are approaching quickly! Hope everyone is doing well. 09/12/2009: Daddy here. Emma will soon be 19 months old and we are moving to a new house. We have made such great friends over the past few years in our neighborhood, I am truly going to miss this street. The fact is that we have outgrown our home. We have a wonderful opportunity to move into a spacious home in Novi and we are going to move towards the end of this month. Emma will have a big backyard and a great play area in the basement of our new home. I'll have Joy attach a couple pictures of our new home. To our current neighbors: Thanks for all your love and support , we are going to miss you all a great deal. We will look forward to catching up with you as we are visiting my Mom and Dad. 08/25/09: Emma went for her 18 month check up on Friday, August 21st. She is now 24 pounds and 11 ounces and is 33 inches tall. She had to get two more shots but now she does not have to go back for more until she is 2 years old!! YEAH!! Emma is enjoying her time at home with her Daddy. They go to the park, go on walks, play in the yard and in the pool! Emma has the best Daddy in the world :-) John starts back to school on Wednesday, August 26th. 7 more classes at Schoolcraft and he will have his Associates degree in General Education. He will then move on to Eastern or University of Michigan to get his degree in Special Education!! Emma continues to keep us busy and keep us laughing! She is such a beautiful little girl and we are blessed to have a healthy, happy little girl in our lives :-) Hope this update finds everyone out there doing well. 08/04/09: We took Emma on her fist camping trip this year - what an experience! All in all, she did well. She is like the energizer bunny - she keeps going and going and going :-) She is talking tons now and tries to repeat everything she hears so we have to be careful what we say! Enjoy the new pics!
7/8/2009: Proud Daddy here. Emma is coming up on her 17th month. It has been a busy past few months with the 2 weddings of Teddy and Alex, a family reunion, and a visit from Aunt Donna. We are enjoying dressing up Emma in all the bathing suits and patriotic outfits this time of year. Thanks to everyone for all the cute outfits and to my sister Kathy for letting me know about the garage sales worth visiting. Having a great Summer so far, hopefully more weather to enjoy the kiddie pool. Emma has been having fun visiting Grandma and Grandpa Waling quite frequently. 06/30/09: Another beautiful wedding was had by Teddy & Erica on June 19th!!! The rain stopped and the sun came out long enough for them to have there well deserved outdoor ceremony! Everything was absolutely beautiful. I have added some pictures to this website of the wedding as well as some new pictures of little Emma. Again, thank you to all who shared this special day with us!! 04/20/09: Well Alexandria and Joseph had the most beautiful wedding!! Everything was perfect, even the weather :-) We wish them a long, happy life together. They will be leaving for Aruba tomorrow morning for their honeymoon. Please be sure to check out some of the pictures I have uploaded from their wedding. Thank you to all who shared the special day with us!
4/12/2009: Hello from proud Daddy. Had a wonderful Easter with most of the Waling family yesterday. Hopefully some of the new pictures with Emma in her bunny ears will come out and be posted to this website. Emma enjoyed walking around and exploring her Uncle Jeff and Aunt Karens property all afternoon. Grandma and her walked the full perimeter of their spacious lot. Thanks to the family for all of her new Easter gifts. Emma will be visiting the Oakgrove Alpaca Farm with Uncle Keith, Aunt Michelle, Michael and Annelise next Saturday, after the wedding, and Sunday. Big weekend coming up for Alex and Joseph!! Teddy and Ericas wedding will be here before we know it in June. Thanks to our family and friends for all your love and kindness to Joy, Emma and myself these past 14 months. Gavin David Russo was born March 29. Congratulations Dave and Liz!! 04/02/09: Boy how times flies - it is already April. Emma is doing great and enjoying staying home with Daddy. She now has five teeth, 3 on the top and 2 on the bottom. She is starting to repeat us and say a few words: ball, circle, cracker. She is getting so big. Be sure to check out the new pictures. Only 16 more days until Alexandria's wedding!! What an exciting time for her and Joe. Hope everyone is doing well.
02/27/09: Emma went for her 1 year check up today. She is 22.9 pounds and 30 1/2 inches long. She remains at the 75th percentile for her growth. She had to get 4 different shots and was not very happy about it at all :-( Emma had two birthday parties this past weekend. One on Saturday (the 21st) with family and then one on Sunday (the 22nd) with friends. She had a great time and got lots of nice things. Be sure to check out the pictures - I have uploaded some of the ones we had taken at JC Penneys. Hope everyone is doing well. I can't wait for Spring :-)
2/15/2009: Hi everyone, John here. What an amazing year it has been!!At this time last year Joy and I still didn't know if we had a boy or girl on the way. Emma has been a joy and inspiration to my life. Joy has been a wonderful partner and mother to Emma. Emma is turning one year old in 5 days, we just went to get one year portraits done yesterday. There have been so many milestones like, talking, crawling, walking, first teeth, etc. Every day is a gift and blessing. Thank you all for your keeping in touch, your visits, understanding, help and kindness to Joy, Emma and I over the past year. 01/08/09: HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Just a quick note to let everyone know that Emma is now walking :-) She has been taking a few steps for weeks, but now she is walking on her own! 12/23/08: I just wanted to take a moment and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year :-) We have kicked off the month of December with a couple of family celebrations. We had Christmas with John's family on December 13th and we had Christmas with my kids this past Sunday, the 21st. It is hard to believe that next year my two older kids will be married! Emma has enjoyed the wrapping paper and empty boxes but I am sure next year that will all change and she will enjoy the toys instead! Emma is now 10 months old and is as sweet as ever. We were informed last Friday by daycare that Emma walked across her living room! She has only taken a few steps for me a couple of times and that is it but I have a feeling that she will be taking off cruising on her own within a month or so. Emma continues to have ear problems. We went to see an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist yesterday and she still has fluid in her ears. They did a couple of different hearing tests and she is not hearing as well as she should due to the fluid in her ears. Her hearing is two levels below what it should be. They put her on an antibotic and an antihistamine to try and clear her up and we will follow up with the doctor in 4 weeks. If the fluid does not clear up with the meds, then we may have to have tubes put in her ears. That is about all the updates I have for now. Have a safe and happy holiday season!! 12/05/08: December is here - already! We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving :-) We celebrated Emma's 1st Thanksgiving with John's family on Thanksgiving Day and then with my children on Saturday. Both dinners were delicious! Emma's 1st Christmas is fast approaching. We put our tree up a couple of weeks ago. So far Emma has been very good. She gets a little curious and touches now and then, but that is it. I am attaching a few new photos that were taken around Thanksgiving. Wait until you see how big Emma is getting!! She continues to walk along furniture or holding our hands, but she still has not taken any steps on her own. In case I don't get another update in before Christmas, we wish all of you a very safe and happy holiday :-) 11/18/08: My son (Ted) will be 21 years old on the 19th of Nov. Finally he is of age :-) Emma will be 9 months old on the 20th. She is doing great except for a few ear infections. She has her two bottom front teeth, but that is it so far. She still continues to walk around the furniture, walks with her push toy and holding our hands - but has not taken any steps on her own. She also can stand for short periods of time on her own. I keep waiting for that first step on her own. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!!! 11/03/08: Emma cut her first tooth - FINALLY!!!! Emma went to the doctor this morning for her 9 month check up (a couple of weeks early) and she is now 19.5 pounds and 28 inches long. She is doing great and makes us smile all the time. She gets so excited when she sees us! For Halloween, she went over to her Aunt Kathy and Uncle Jack's house and helped them pass out candy! After that she stopped by Grandma and Grandpa Waling's house and got a plastic pumpkin full of treats! Emma had a great 1st Halloween!! 09/09/08: Where does the time go? September is already here. Emma is doing great. She had her 6 month check up and she is 17.5 pounds and 27 inches long. She is a very healthy and happy baby girl. She is now crawling, pulling herself up on things and saying ma ma, da da and ba ba. We are enjoying every minute with her :-) Hope everyone is doing well. 07/30/08: It is hard to believe that July is just about over! Time is flying by. Emma is now a little over 5 months and growing like a weed. She is rolling around and is almost sitting on her own. She can get to where she wants to go by scooting on her belly, I think she will be taking off crawling very soon. She has not cut any teeth yet, but sure drools and chews a lot. Her bottom gums are very hard and I am expecting a tooth any time now!! We are taking Emma on her first tent camping experience this weekend. I will let you all know how it goes! Hope everyone is doing well. 07/01/08: First I would like to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALEX!! She is 23 years old today :-) I just wanted to update the site with Emma's most recent doctor's appointment. We took her last Friday for her 4 month check and her second round of shots. She is 15 pounds and 25 1/2 inches long. She is doing great!! She is quite a busy body and does not like to sit still very long. We took her for her first fireworks and she did well. She sat in her stroller and watched them for about 15 minutes or so and then fell asleep. Emma, for the most part is a very happy baby and is still sleeping great at night for us. She continues to chew on her hands, feet and anything else she can get in her mouth- but no teeth as of yet. We wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July! 06/10/2008 Proud Daddy here. Approaching my first Father's Day as a Dad. Still thinking more about celebrating with my Dad than a holiday for me. Every day is a celebration with Emma and Joy in my life. Since Joy has been back to work, I have morning duty because Joy starts work before I do. Emma has the biggest smile when I get her up to get cleaned, fed and dressed. She makes every day start off great. "Good Morning Sunshine" picture on our front page says it all. She will be 16 weeks tomorrow, everyone says enjoy her because time flies so quickly. I can already tell that I am going to blink and she will be off to kindergarten, and another blink and she's a teenager!! There will be lots of milestones before then, crawling, walking, talking!! She just started rolling herself over last week from her tummy to her back. Joy has done a great job of introducing her to bananas, applesauce, carrots and rice cereal. I am truly blessed to have them both in my life. The Waling family is very proud of our new additions too!! Can't wait to meet more of Joys side of the family. Emma's Uncle Ed and Aunt Linda Mikels sent an absolutely beautifully, detailed cross stitch in a frame for Emma's room. We will get a picture of Emmas portrait shots and the gift from Ed and Linda up soon. We have received boxes of clothes and other gifts from Joys siblings and I can't wait to put some faces with all the names..she is one of 11 kids you know. I look forward to meeting you all. I really hope we can make a trip East and West before too long. Thanks to everyone for your continued generosity and kind thoughts. I am getting some video of Emma and Mommy with our camcorder every now and then, some great footage so far. 05/14/08 - Emma is 12 weeks old today. She is growing so fast! We started Emma on rice cereal about two weeks ago. She seems to enjoy the cereal for the most part. We are feeding it to her from a spoon and she did not seem to have a problem taking it. She is full of smiles these days. There is nothing better than picking her up from day care after a long day at work and having her smile from ear to ear at us - she is just adorable!! I posted a few new pics of her on the site also. Her hair is finally starting to come in and she has the most beautiful big blue eyes, just like her Daddy. She has discovered her hands and has them in her mouth most of the time. She is doing a lot of talking and cooing too. Emma also likes to listen to her Daddy play guitar and sing - she is quite the Daddy's girl :-) I will be getting her 3 month pictures taken in about a week and will be sure to post some on the website. 04/21/2008: Hi Everyone, Emma had her 2 month check up today which included shots! She is weighing in at 11 pounds 11 1/2 ounces and is 23 3/4 inches. She is doing great and getting so big :-) She smiles and coos all the time. She is very sweet!! Emma was baptized yesterday at St. Roberts church and then had a celebration luncheon at Mama Mia's restaurant. I will get some new pictures on the site very soon. I have returned to work and Emma has been going to an in home daycare. She seems to adjusted well and they love having her :-) 3/20/2008: Proud Daddy here!! Well we have 1 month under our belt with our little bundle of joy. I feel so blessed that Emma is in our life. She is alot of work, especially for Joy since she is home for 6 weeks from work, but I feel very lucky to have a healthy little girl in our family!! I am a new man. My perspective on life has changed immensely. Parenthood is a unique thrill that can't be experienced or substituted any other way. Living on sleep deprivation every night, but Emma is worth it. Joy is so wonderful with her, tending to every need 24/7!! I wanted to thank our families and friends who have visited, sent us warm wishes, gifts and kind thoughts to the three of us. Fatherhood...The toughest job you'll ever love!! Happy 1 month birthday Little Emma!! Daddy loves you :-) 02/25/08: She has arrived.....Emma Lorraine Waling, born on Wednesday, Feb. 20th at 8:06 pm. She weighed in at 7 lbs & 14 ozs and 22 inches long. She is absolutely beautiful. Please be sure to check out new pics that I have posted to the website.
02/19/08: Well tonight is the big night!! We will be leaving for the hospital about 5:30 and checking in around 6:15 pm. They will begin inducing by inserting medication that contains prostaglandins "down below". This medication helps to ripen the cervix and sometimes stimulates enough contractions to jump-start labor. Tomorrow morning, if needed; they will give me the synthetic hormone Pitocin (oxytocin) through an IV pump to start my contractions. They will adjust the amount needed according to how my labor progresses. We should have our bundle of joy sometime tomorrow - 02/20/08 :-) We will be sure to keep you all posted!! 02/14/08: HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!! Today was a very special day for me. John proposed and gave me a beautiful engagement ring, so we are officially engaged!! This is going to be a busy year for us; engagement, baby and marriage - WOW!!!! I could not be happier - John is one in a million and I am so glad that he is mine! We are both very anxious for the arrival of little Luke or Emma! If I don't go into labor over the weekend, I will be checking into the hospital on Tuesday evening (2/19) at about 6:15pm so they can start inducing. We will be sure to keep you all posted. 2/4/2008: Future Daddy here. It is so exciting to know that in about 2 weeks we are going to have our little baby enter the world!!!!! Our friends and family are so supportive and always asking how Joy is doing. We started a home video of our family as it is now with Manny, Dakota, Joy and I. Took some video of the nursery and can't wait until Luke or Emma make it complete. Only 15 days until Joy is admitted but at the same time I wish it was tomorrow. Joy is ready anytime and has been in great spirits. She is now pretty uncomfortable and this will be a long 15 days for her. I pray everyday for Joy to have an easy labor and for a healthy baby. We are blessed in so many ways and thank God for giving us our future son or daughter. Joy has 2 wonderful kids already and for her to do it all over again is a sign of love that I can't put into words. Thanks honey. Baby pics soon!!!!! 01/25/08: We went to the specialist for our last ultrasound yesterday. Everything still looks great and the little one is weighing it at 6 pounds and 7 ounces - approximately! The doctors seem to think this is going to be a big baby. The head is down and Baby Waling is in position for delivery - hopefully he/she will remain that way! The countdown is on - only 25 days until the admit me and begin inducing. We are both getting very anxious and excited for the arrival. Boy or Girl?????????? 01/21/08: It has been a very busy few weeks for John and I. My work gave me a baby shower on 1/10/08 and John's Mom and sisters gave us a baby shower on 01/12/08. We got lots of great gifts :-) We finally finished going through everything and getting the nursery set up and ready for Baby Waling. I got the bedding washed and put on the crib and John got the valances up - it looks so nice!! I will update the site with some shower pictures and pictures of the nursery real soon. We go to the specialist for our last ultrasound this Thursday (1/24/08) at 8:00 am. We are hoping the head is down and the baby is ready!! 01/03/0/8: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! Just wanted to give a short update to everyone. John and I went for our weekly appointment this morning. I had a non stress test, my check up and a quick ultrasound. The doctor is going to admit me on February 19th at 7pm and start inducing labor with the hopes of me delivering on February 20th. This is a week prior to my 02/27/08 due date. I was told all along that they would induce one week before due to my age and blood pressure. Hopefully I wont go into labor before then on my own! My work is having a baby shower for me on Jan. 10th and John's family is having one for us on Jan. 12th!! I am getting very excited :-) 12/27/2007: Proud daddy to be here. Sorry it has been a while since an update. Everything is going well for baby and Joy so far. We went to our regular ultra sound today and for a non stress test for baby Waling today. Baby is weighing in at 4.1 lbs. Exactly 2 months away from expected due date. Weight is in 90th percentile at this time so baby is growing well. Had a very busy holiday with with Joys kids and my side of the family too. Lots of fun over the holidays and fond memories to look back on. All the food is definitely helping baby grow!! Joy is feeling great but tired, she is ready for the baby anytime. We got a few nice pix from the ultrasound today. On a future visit I can bring a vhs tape and we will have video. Was excited to hear that today. Baby shower responses are starting to come in nicely. Thanks to all of our family and friends for your kindness and prayers during our pregnancy. PS: Joy thinks she saw male genitalia last visit...too hard to tell. We will be surprised for sure. Some of our friends have been speculating and I think it's 50/50 so far. 11/01/07: We went to the specialist today for our routine 4 week ultrasound. Everything looks good and baby is growing right on schedule. He is very active - I feel lots of movement. We are still keeping the sex of the baby a surprise :-) 10/18/07: We had our regular 4 week check up today and everything is going well. We heard a strong heartbeat and my blood pressure remains normal. My next check up will be November 15th. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers!!!
