" The Miracle Of Sarah"

This is the miraculous story of how God so wonderfully blessed us with our first adoption. In order to tell the whole story, I have to start with the beginning of how my husband and I came to be. When Mike and I met, He was 22, fresh out of college, never been married and no children .I was 26, recently divorced, 3 children and a totally insane ex husband. I knew the night I met Mike, that he was the man I would spend the rest of my life with.We met January 8,1994, By Valentines day we were talking marriage. On April 30, 1994, we became engaged, and married on November 11, 1994. From the time we started talking about getting married I started praying that when we married God would bless us with a child. I was no longer able to have birth children. I had my tubes tied after my 3rd child, (after 3 babies in 3 years with an abusive husband, I felt I had to take drastic measures.) I also had a lot of female problems that would ultimately lead to a hysterectomy. I prayed every day that God would give us a baby. I often cried my self to sleep at night because I so desperately wanted to have a baby with Mike. Mike is an amazing husband and father, He adopted my 3 children from my previous marriage shortly after we married. I felt he deserved to have a baby to raise from birth and I wanted more than any thing to give him that, and to share in raising a child from birth with him. In June of 1995, while watching a TV program on adoption, they gave the number of The Nation Adoption Association. I called them to get information on adoption. I knew absolutely nothing about how to adopt. They sent me a packet of information on the various different ways to adopt. I contacted some private agencies and collected information from them. I filed all this information in a folder and kept praying. Private adoption is VERY expensive, and we really couldn't afford it at that time. One day in June of 1996, I was watching the 700 club. They said they were going to pray for the needs of those watching and to join them in prayer. I started my "Dear God please give me a baby prayer". Them same prayer I cried out to God every night and every day and had been crying out to God for over 2 years. Terri Meesuen Began to speak and gave a work of knowledge, She said "There is a couple out there that has been praying for a baby for quite some time God has heard your prayer and the child you are praying for is on its way." I knew right then that she was speaking to me. I claimed that word as mine. A few days later our local Department of Family and Children services called us. They said the had gotten our number from the National adoption association and wanted to know if we still wanted to adopted. I told her yes, she said she wanted to meet with us. We met with the case worker a few days later, and began the process to become approved to adopt. We attended MAPP training, That was the training program at the time for foster and adoptive parents. We were investigated and went through all the stuff they put you through .Around end of January one night I was praying and I just cried out to God, I said "God, When are you going to give us our baby?" God spoke very clearly to my heart that night, he said "When you stop believing not only that I can , but that I will, you have never once doubted that I could give you a baby, but you have always doubted that I would. When you believe not only that I can, but that I will, that is when you will receive the desire of your heart." From that night on I changed the way I prayed, I praised God for the child he was giving us. Finally on the last Saturday in February of 1997, we received our letter of certification we were approved to adopt! They had told us we would get a toddler aged little boy, I had prayed that God would give us the child he planned for us to have . I also prayed he would give us the privilege of bring home a baby from the hospital , a child we could raise from birth. On March 13, 1997, two weeks after being approved, we received a phone call that we had a 2 day old baby girl. I ask how soon could we get her, they said how fast can you get here. I called Mike home from work and we drove to the hospital and brought home our baby girl. We named her Sarah Elizabeth, for the day we got the call that we had her, God laid that name on my heart, because just as with Sarah and Elizabeth in the bible, God had spoken and told us he would do the impossible and give us a baby, and he had. So her name had to reflect that miracle. They told us she was minimal legal risk. They were pursuing termination against the birth mother, because she had two other children that were in DFCS custody, had been for over two years. The birth mother had not done any of the things she needed to do to get them back. They had began termination on the siblings and were adding the new baby to the petition. The birth father was unknown. We had to go to court several time before we were granted termination. Never any real problems just annoying things, like an attorney couldn't be there, the clerk didn't schedule everything properly, things like that. Finally on Dec 8,1997 we received termination of Sarah's birth parents legal rights. We signed her adoption papers on March 31, 1998 and finalized August 28,1998. Through out the entire process of waiting for termination God spoke many times to reassure me that all would be well. I learned that God really does mean it when he said if we delight our selves in him, he will give us the desires of our hearts. It took three years of continuous prayer, but God honored his word. The Bible says in Psalms, 'That God settles the barren woman in her home and makes her the happy mother." God has been so gracious to us, he has made me the happy mother 6 times now, three times now when there was nothing medical science could do make me a mother.
