January 18 ~ Playdate at Dalia's home with her sons Christian and Chase.  Shannon, Maya and Gracie joined us too!  Six babies and three mommies.  The girls had a great night sleep afterwards!  We are going to try to make it a weekly playdate and alternate houses.

January 17 ~ I'm trying to find more activities for us since the girls have longer awake periods.  There are so many options!  Beginning with the free stuff:  library storytimes and playdates.  And looking into the not so cheap stuff:  Music classes, movement classes, gym classes, swim lessons, coop learning centers, etc.

January 16 ~ Good napping day!  I met with a young woman college student today.  We are hoping to work out a part time babysitting plan.  She'll help Monday and Wednesdays from 3-7pm.  Once we all get comfortable, I'll be able to escape for a couple hours to run errands and take a break.  Together, we'll get the girls ready for bed from 6-7pm.

Mike works late on Mondays.  Wednesdays he'll finally get the night off.  Between work and all he does here, Daddy really needs a break!

January 15 ~ Rough day.  Sam refused to nap.  She is having major separation anxiety.  I can't even get up and try to leave the room.  She screams and then Syd screams.  It was another long Monday.  An hour of screaming at bedtime.

I've reached my own milestone.  I can't do Mondays alone anymore.  I'm looking to hire a part time babysitter for Monday and Wednesday evenings.  I'm interviewing someone tomorrow.

January 14 ~ We are having a cold spell here in California.  The girls are dressing warmer for bed.  We sure are getting the money's worth out of those footed PJs!

The girls can actually wear the same clothes for 24 hours now (with bibs).  We've finally gotten over (most of) the spitting up!!!  There is so much LESS laundry!

January 11 ~ Playdate at Shannon's.  Maya and Gracie are already walking (with assistance).  Sydney took a few first steps today while pushing one of their toys.  We predict she'll be walking very soon.  Mike moved their cribs to the lowest position.

January 11 ~ Samantha was standing up this morning in the crib when Mike went in to get her!  It's very rare for twins to meet milestones so similarly.  They also started crawling on the same day.  Wow!

Sam not only likes to take off her own bibs, now she's tearing off Syd's too.

January 10 ~ Their Birthday Party will be Saturday, February 17th.

January 10 ~ Sydney can pull up into a standing position!  I haven't actually seen her do it yet.  In the playzone the evening, she did it 3-4 times.  (but each time I had briefly left the room.  I was preparing their dinner.)  We'll have to lower the cribs again.

Sam has 2 bottom teeth.  I haven't seen any top teeth yet for her.

Sydney has 2 bottom teeth.  She has several (atleast 3) top teeth coming in all at once.

1 nap per day is going well.  Everyone in the house is happier!

January 9 ~ A few weeks ago, Syd went through a phase where she hated bibs.  She'd pull them off (velcro closure).  Then she'd try to pull off her shirt (thinking it was a bib?).  She hated it.  Now Sam has become the bib-hater.

January 8 ~ They love buttons.  Especially phones.  They got 2 toy phones for Christmas and it's one of their favorite toys.

Our friend Emily loaned us this fun Fisher Price doorway toy.  The girls are having a great time.  Pushing the big purple doorbell button is their favorite part.

January 7 ~ Approximately 21 pounds each now.  Getting taller.  Getting chubbier!  The bellies are bulging and we have extra chins.  Maybe preparing for another growth spurt.

They love to crawl.  Syd is very fast.  She gets focused on something ahead and zoom she's there.  Sam prefers to alternate between crawling, sitting and kneeling.  Sam's new skill is starting in a kneeling position and then lunging her self forward into crawling.

Many bumps and bruises.  A few fingers closed in their dresser drawers.  Plenty of crying.

January 6 ~ They both LOVE cheese.  I think it's our favorite food now.  Sam prefers carrots while Syd prefers peas.  They are eating great.  3 big bottles per day.  3 meals per day.  1 nap per day.  Average 12 hours of sleep per night.  Excellent!

January 5 ~ Success!  The girls slept in until 7:45am.  They had a slightly fussy morning since I was purposely making them stay awake.  They went down around noon for their nap.  They slept 3 glorious hours!  Sam woke first.  Syd was in such a deep sleep, I had to wake her.  We kept their bedtime the same - 7pm.  They went into the crib happy, played, babbled and fell asleep at 7:45pm.  Perfect 12 hour day with 3 hours of napping.  Wow!

Hopefully they'll sleep through the night and we can continue this trend.  I even got the laundry folded AND put away.  We got our chores done so early, Mike took Bailey for a walk.  We were due for a good day!

We also visited with some friends this afternoon and went for a stroll.

January 4 ~ After many weeks of struggling with naps, countless hours of crying (my tears too), and much debate....  We are officially changing to only 1 nap per day.

Most experts and parents disagree, but I can't handle 2 struggles per day anymore.  They cried and screamed for 2 hours today.  Syd only napped for 1 hour this AM.  She was awake from 11am-7:30pm... Absolutely refused to sleep.

Hopefully the nap will start around 11:30 and last 2-3 hours.  No morning outings (for fear that they'll fall asleep in stroller or carseat which would be bad since I can't transfer them to crib w/o waking).

Anyway, if you want to make some $$$, publish a book about baby napping.  Most of the books out there focus on getting kids to sleep at bedtime and sleep through the night.  Most parents I know struggle MORE with naps than nighttime sleep.  And there is very little "expert" advice on naps.  Of course, it's understandable why the "experts" don't have answers... Naps are TOUGH.  Just ask me, I'm incapable of napping.  No wonder my kids (especially Syd) are struggling.  Too bad they can't be like Powernappers Daddy and Grandma!

Atleast they sleep through the night (knock on wood)!!!

January 3 ~ I haven't posted since Xmas.  Even with Mike here, there isn't enough time in the day.  Mike's back at work.  I'm trying to keep up with 2 fast and strong crawlers.

Syd has 2 bottom teeth and her 3rd (top left) is coming in.  Sam has her bottom left tooth and her second (bottom right) is coming in.  Lots of crawling and kneeling.

Poop is disrupting naps.  Today, they skipped the morning nap.  That means big trouble for the rest of the day.

December 25 ~ Sydney and Samantha's first Christmas!  Merry Christmas everyone!

Thanks to our families for all the wonderful and fun gifts.  We are just hanging out today at home - eating and playing with toys.

Maybe they know it's Christmas?  They woke up at 6:15am ready to start the day.  Exhausted from the gift opening, they took a morning nap.

The girls loved their lunch today which included blueberry pancakes (leftover from our breakfast while they were napping).  Now of course, we were trying to have lunch and they (mostly Syd) is crying.  That girls does NOT want to nap more than once per day.

Dec 24 update ~ The 1 nap plan went okay.  Sam would've napped longer except for a poopy diaper.  Both babies woke up happy.  The afternoon went well.  But the evening (despite an earlier bedtime) was rocky.  Which may or may not be because of the single nap (Syd's poopy diaper and Sam's teething made them both cry).

December 24 ~ Happy Christmas Eve!  The girls had a fun morning and then went down for their nap around 11am.  We enjoyed our traditional Christmas crepes.  Now we are keeping the house quiet as possible, hoping they nap as long as needed.  Hopefully we'll have 2 well rested happy babies to enjoy Christmas Eve.

Maybe we'll watch Frosty the Snowman again.  The girls LOVE it!  Perhaps open a couple of presents.  Play alot.  Maybe a stroll around the neighborhood.  Enjoy a yummy dinner of turkey and sweet potatos.  (The adults get to have chocolate lava cakes!)

December 23 ~ All 4 of us went to Whole Foods for our big grocery shop for the holiday.  It was very crowded.  We split the list, each taking a cart and a baby.  Sydney enjoyed the Carolers.  As usual, they got alot of attention.  Especially for their cute Christmas outfits.

The 2 naps per day plan is just NOT working (Around 9am and 1pm).  The times keep getting pushed back because they aren't tired yet.  They cry too much.  They wake up cranky from naps which means something isn't right for them.  They aren't sleepy at bedtime (actually they are really playful and silly at bedtime which means they actually napped too much!).

Tomorrow we are going to try 1 nap.  It'll be a big transition for them.  Hopefully, they'll nap for 2-3 hours.
