September 9 ~ Sydney said "mama" today. Not sure if this was meaningful yet or random babbling. Syd briefly held her own bottle today. They are getting closer to sitting up. Sam & Syd were lying on their tummies facing each other. They were giggling at each like crazy. It was so cute!
September 8 ~ I had another vertigo attack yesterday (room spinning, dizziness and vomitting). The 2nd one this week. We think the problem may be high sodium. Our diet is mostly frozen food, processed food and takeout. I don't have time or energy to shop and cook. Thankfully, Mike was able to come home yesterday to care for the girls. I'm trying to get some help from Drs. I'm trying to get some rest while caring for the girls. Which isn't easy. Mike's under more stress than ever at work. And the girls are up early from their nap and screaming, so I gotta go. It may be awhile before I have time to respond to your emails and phone calls. Please be patient with me.
September 6 ~ Potluck dinner for the Mom volunteers of the twins group. Mike took excellent care of the girls, while I had a "night out". Does a night off count when you spend the entire time talking about twins?!? The girls aren't sitting up on their own yet. Which is starting to stress me out (despite all my attempts to not stress out over such things). My theory is that the reflux pain is worse when they sit that upright. Sydney HATES the bumbo lately. Both of them often seem uncomfortable sitting in the upright position in the highchair. They are certainly strong. Just not that interested in being "scrunched up". Who can blame 'em?
September 1 ~ First taste of mangos. First time in the toddler swing at the park. Best napping day ever!
August 31 ~ Since most of us don't know the averages, I'm posting this from Parents Magazine. "Go, Baby, Go" (timeframe when most babies will hit each milestone.) Lifting her head 1 to 4 months, Rolling Over 4 to 8 months, Sitting up 5 to 8 months, Crawling 7-10 months (some babies skip crawling), Standing & Cruising 8 to 12 months, Walking 11 months +. Technically, the girls milestones should be judged by their adjusted age (based on their due date of March 21) rather than their birthdate (since they were born 5 weeks early). In other words, we aren't supposed to freak if they are a little behind the curve on any of these milestones. It's easy for parents to get worried if they don't hit certain milestones around the same time as other babies. I try to watch for daily and weekly "progress" or "improvements" rather than growth charts and statistics. Samantha & Sydney are doing great!
August 29 ~ The girls are having a better day than me. I'm physically exhausted and my back aches. These chubby girls are heavy! I don't have the energy to pack us all up and go anywhere. We ventured as far as I could muster: the front lawn. The best part was that Ulla, Greta and Noelle came for a visit. Then Emily and Alex joined us too. We had quite a little party on our front lawn. We LOVE this neighborhood! Strawberries and Pears for dessert. Yummy!
August 28 ~ Samantha started screaming at 4:30am. It could have been teething. But I think she was mad because she was on her tummy. Mike got her back to sleep. Unfortunately, Sydney did not sleep through her sister's tantrum. Then it was Syd's turn to scream. The whole day was screwy from there on. The twins meeting was good. We went for a short stroll in the afternoon. I got them to bed on my own, but it wasn't easy.
August 27 ~ Only one baby day! I took Samantha to Babies R Us while Mike took Sydney and Bailey for a walk. It's MUCH easier to shop with only one baby! Next weekend, Mike has 4 days off. I hope to take Syd for a couple hours while Mike has some quality time with Sam. Crepes for brunch while the girls napped. Dinner out. Playtime on the front lawn. Bouncing around in the new Jumperoo toy (Sam picked it out at the store!).
August 26 ~ Daddy's Birthday! Lunch out for Mike's birthday. Stroll to the park with Bailey. Lots of playtime. Girls to bed early so we could enjoy Vivace takeout and ice cream cake. First foods over the past few days: Pumpkin and Blueberries (not together!)
Aug 25 ~ Sam wants to type lk ,,,,,,,uuyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyymnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnkiiiiiiiiiiiiii78ky,myyik,m nbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbhzxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxwzzz zxxxxxxxxx olllllllllkkkC2zxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx pkkkzzzzzzz
August 23 ~ Random 6 month thoughts that I must write down before I forget... Samantha seems genuinely surprised and deliriously happy when we go into get her in the morning or after a nap. Sydney giggles every time she sees Bailey. Who knew Bailey was such a comedian! Sydney fusses during most solid meals. I think she is uncomfortable (reflux) sitting in the highchair. Sam rolls over both ways and often sleeps on her tummy. Syd rolls onto her back, but still isn't interested in rolling onto her tummy. They are both getting closer to sitting up unassisted. Sam has the colder toes and wears socks more often. They both spitup constantly, but Syd has more pain. Syd is more interested in trying to hold the bottle. Sam is very good at sucking her thumb. When Mike washes under Syd's ticklish chin, she giggles. (she doesn't do that for me or when we turn on the video camera - only reserved for Daddy). Syd has almost twice as many poopy diapers - not sure what that means! They both drool alot and have chin rashes, but still no teeth peeking through. Pears and pear juice are still favorites. Green veggies aren't popular. Syd dislikes being in the bumbo seat and tries to arch and buck out. The swings and duoglider are history. All of those wonderful gifts of 3-6 month clothing are too little for our chubs. I need to start selling stuff. Our garage is overflowing! I always wash the laundry, but it rarely gets folded or put away. Mike & I both feel more tired than ever (which doesn't make sense because they sleep thru the night). Mike is under alot of stress at work. They both prefer playing silly games with Mommy or Daddy than any toy. Silly games include: peekaboo, smooches, whooshing around, blah and other silly stuff. Favorite book is "I know a rhino". Favorite toy is probably the cat/dog crawl toy. Favorite songs are "Wheels on the bus" and "5 little monkeys" (and other random madeup songs by us). Poor kids, the 2 of us have the worst singing voices. They LOVE being outside: sitting on front porch, laying on front lawn, strolling around the neighborhood. Watching the breeze blow the tree leaves is fascinating! The hardest parts of my day: being soaked in spitup, changing crib sheets (daily because of spitup), coping with cranky babies because they won't nap, and feeling physically exhausted from carrying around two 16 pound babies, carseats and stroller. The best parts of my day: The SMILES and GIGGLES. Always remembering how lucky we are to have these 2 amazing little people in our lives.
in the infield. We were fairly close to the turf track. Sam and Syd did not seem to care much about the horses running by. I think they were busy looking around at all the people and things in the infield. They didn't pick any horses, although one of my co-workers said to bet #5 and that is who won and that is the horse in the picture after crossing the finish line. We didn't bet it though. It paid $4.40 to win. They started playing with the toy learning table. They can press some of the buttons in the corner and move the trombone knob. I don't think they quite understand that they are the ones making it make noises yet, but they find it interesting. We have been busy just keeping up with the day-to-day. The time flies by so fast! -Mike
