On Sam & Syd's 2nd bday, we went out to dinner. Getting ready to leave, Sydney fell. She had a blue crayon in her hand, she fell and it impaled her just below her eye. It was deep. I washed it out, we rushed her to an ER clinic. I had them clean it twice and glue it. As it healed.... there was still BLUE. At first, I thought just the bruise. But months later, still blue. We consulted Derm and Plastic Surgeon. I personally was of the "wait and see" approach, whereas Mike wanted it removed ASAP. Well, we have to switch from a PPO to an HMO for next calendar year (huge rate hikes in our health insurance), so since the Plastic Surgeon wasn't on the HMO (and is on the PPO), we decided to get the surgery this year. Okay, so I was reluctant..... but ultimately let Mike lead the way on it. Today Sydney did great to start. Very brave and well behaved. The Dr gave her a med that was supposed to make her sleepy (didn't work). So she wasn't thrilled being carried off into the OR. After the surgeon came to talk to us. Turns out she had ALOT of blue crayon in there. Much more than we could see at surface level, surprised everyone. It's a very GOOD thing we did this now! I immediately told Mike, "you were right, I was wrong". So we go into recovery... Syd is flipping out and really wacky. 2 nurses are battling her. She has pulled out her IV (blood has splattered a few places). She wants every gadget off of her asap. But she's totally wobbly and crying/screaming. She did great this afternoon. Too much energy actually, since we are supposed to keep her "less active". She'll have a slightly larger, but certainly less blue scar. Moral of the story, Crayola soft crayons are better. Be wary of those hard cheap crayons, especially the ones from restaurants!
Oct 14 ~ We met some local firemen in the grocery store today and they gave us "badge" stickers. Oct 13 ~ At preschool, a policeman came to visit. Oct 12 ~ Annual block party! Mike is working extra hours. Mel is still recovering from a long sinus infection. Syd & Sam are doing great at preschool. And testing lots of boundaries and limits (and their parents patience) at home.
9/10 ~ Grandma arrives 9/12 ~ Daddy leaves for India 9/13 ~ Gilroy Gardens with Grandma and Mom 9/16 ~ Haircuts and Brunch. Mom had a parents meeting at preschool 9/18 ~ Andy Z performed at preschool, so we went in for the special occasion. 9/20 ~ Daddy will return from India The girls (and Mike) have colds. Overall, the girls are doing okay without Daddy. Some temper tantrums and disturbed sleep and very early wakeups, but not surprising or unexpected. We all miss Mike so much. Hurry home Daddy!
9/2 ~ Planning a short visit to preschool 9/1 ~ Greek Festival. Still recovering from "vacation". They wanted to go to daycare. I'll have to take them later this week for a short visit. 8/31 ~ Recover from Trip. Migraine for mommy. 8/30 ~ Leave hotel, visit Gilroy Gardens and return home from "vacation". Upon arriving home, Sam wanted to go back to the hotel and pool. "Vacation" is over. Mom & Dad are exhausted! 8/29 ~ Monterey Bay Aquarium (and the hotel pool). Otters, starfish, "mr ray" and jellies were some of the favorites! They loved the hotel and the indoor pond with fish and turtles. The elevator and pool were highlights too. 8/28 ~ Depart for "vacation" in Monterey. Visit the Dennis the Menace playground that everyone raves about, but it was HOT! Hotel pool. Great dinner at local little fish restaurant. Tough time getting them to sleep in their tents. www.kidco.com (click on peapod). 8/27 ~ Last day of daycare. Syd only attended 1/2 day since I took her in the AM to see Dr. Thankfully, her eye healed quickly.
8/26~ Happy Birthday Daddy!!! Big milestone birthday! We had a rough day at preschool. It's a long story that involved a boy hitting Sydney and us spending a couple of hours in the pediatricians office. She has a corneal abrasion which should heal quickly. She has a follow up appt in AM with her regular Pediatrician. So Mike missed out on his special cupcakes and what was supposed to be a more relaxing day for him. We'll try to make up for it over the rest of his vacation week. Oh yeah, he's got a cold too. Poor Mike. Daddy needs {{{hugs}}}
Granny & Grandpap left today for Pittsburgh. We had a wonderful visit and a tearful goodbye. Syd & Sam will really miss their greatgrandparents! 8/17 ~ Syd went to pool w/ Dad. Sam went to Farmers market w/ Mom, Granny & Grandpap. 8/16 ~ Last ballet class. Syd did awsome! Sam was shy today. Dinner out for the 6 of us. 8/15 ~ I fell down steps carrying laundry basket and sprained/bruised my ankle. 8/15 ~ First preschool visit (just for an hour), but the girls liked it! Afternoon at the mall for lunch and shopping for preschool clothes. 8/14 ~ Beach with G & G and S & S (and mom, poor dad had to work). 8/13 ~ I got a haircut and G & G enjoyed Stanford shopping center. 8/10 ~ Our friends Lori & Jeff (who already have 1 yr old b/g twins) had their "surprise" baby today. A little girl named Minou weighing 8lbs 3oz. Congratulations!
8/9 ~ Granny & Grandpap Arrive! 8/6 ~ Cassie left and returned to Pittsburgh
Since Cassie's arrival on July 8, we've been busier than ever. All 4 "girls" went to the beach. It was foggy and windy, and yet I still got sunburned! We attended a MPPOM (twins group) picnic that was so much fun! Rocket balloons and Sam in the bouncy house (minus Mike disciplining a boy for pushing Sam) were the highlights. Mike & Mel celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary at Vivace while Cassie babysat the sleeping toddlers. (We also got to go out another night to see "Dark Night" which Mike thought was excellent, I thought was okay). Cassie & I spent a day at MBARI learning about Marine Biology (for her college and career interests!) www.mbari.org 7/27 Mike & Cassie took Syd & Sam to Pier 39, the Aquarium by the Bay and Ghirardelli Square. Cassie & Mike took the girls swimming a few times. When I go to PT or chiro, Cassie entertains the girls in the waiting room. Wow, those girls are getting addicted to TV. not good. The girls are liking their ballet classes on Saturday Mornings. Sydney is doing very well listening and trying to copy the teacher. Sam sometimes sucks her thumb... but is doing well. Cassie (who has 10 yrs of dance classes) thinks they are doing quite well! They can get really high up on their toes, which is apparently impt. I dunno much about it! But heck, the class is 2 blocks from our house and the girls are having fun. We had 2 major tantrums today (7/31), but then they had long lovely naps! Mostly they aren't napping these days, so it was a rare treat! Mike is enjoying Wed night Ultimate Frisbee and night out w/ the guys. Tonight, Cassie & I went to Costco and then out for Sushi. Yep, she ate Japanese food - but not the raw fish stuff - yet! She's also been exposed to Afgan food and probably several other things she's never scene or heard of before. I'm impressed with her braveness to try new things (I certainly wasn't that brave at 14, or 21 for that matter!). Mike is overworked and overtired, but it really does help to have another person around! The girls are kinda hot or cold with Cassie. It's either NO cassie (because they are competing to get mom or dad)..... or all hugs and kisses with Cassie. Cassie's most valued skill is getting the knots out of Syd's twirled hair! I think it's time for another haircut. My friend, Paula, is in SF for a conference, so we hope to see her. The girls are asking to go to Gilroy Gardens (hoping to go on Sunday 8/3). Cassie is leaving next week. This visit has flown by so fast my head is spinning! There is so much more we want to do, but the days disappear quickly. Just a few days after Cassie leaves, Great Grandparents arrive. Then alot more stuff in August and Sept. Crazy busy! We have many meetings and pre-visits for preschool to integrate them into the program for Sept. Okay, it's 2 am and I've rambled and probably forgotten many impt things. But I uploaded 8 new pics and am going to try again to go to sleep.
We had a 4 day wknd, and I can't remember what else we did... see THIS is why I need to take more notes!
BTW I have over 200 pics from the past months to sort through, edit, crop, upload, etc. So I'll try to get something up soon...... but I'm so far behind...... Hey, atleast the girls napped today! But I spent most of the afternoon planning out their pre-visits with their new preschool teacher. Yikes, August is BUSY!
Picnic with local mom's group. Balloon hats! (pics coming soon)
June 23 ~ I had a vertigo attack while reading stories to the girls. Mike took over and I still don't know what triggered the attack.
June 7 ~ Mike took the girls to the Farmers Market. Sam vomitted (maybe from the heat?). For the 2nd day in a row, Syd had trouble napping. Our big Saturday evening was a trip to the grocery store - woohoo ;-)
